BIBLICAL

LEADERSHIP

Dear readers, As a woman, a mother and a follower of Jesus Christ, I have often found myself reflecting on the profound concept of biblical leadership. In the intricate tapestry of life, we each play unique roles, and for many of us, these roles extend far beyond the confines of our homes and families. We are called to lead, inspire and make a lasting impact, not only within our own households, but also within our churches, workplaces and communities. This calling is not just a privilege but a responsibility, one that carries the immeasurable weight of grace and love. In my own journey, I have discovered that true biblical leadership is not about asserting authority or seeking recognition. Instead, it is a humble posture of servitude, a heart overflowing with compassion and a spirit anchored in faith. It is a leadership that mirrors the very essence of Jesus Christ, who, as the ultimate biblical leader, washed the feet of His disciples, healed the broken and shepherded with unwavering love. The importance of being part of a church community cannot be overstated. It is within this fellowship of believers that we find support, guidance and opportunities to exercise our leadership gifts. Together, we strengthen each other’s faith and exemplify the principles of biblical leadership. We are reminded in Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

4

Biblical leadership, at its core, is about selflessly serving others, just as Jesus said in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” It is about leading with love, wisdom, and integrity, embodying the fruits of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” My hope for you, dear readers, is that as you journey through the pages of this edition of Arise, you will be inspired to take up the mantle of biblical leadership in your marriage, your home, your place of work, your church and your community. Let us remember that we are not alone in this endeavour; we have the guidance of Scripture and the support of our fellow believers. Together, we can make a profound difference and reflect the love and light of Christ to a world in need. May this edition of Arise serve as a source of inspiration, guidance and encouragement on your path to becoming a biblical leader in all aspects of your life. With love and blessings, Meagan

Our Super Partner's Superbook Holiday Club

Our amazing Superbook champion, Jean-Marcel, recently spearheaded a heartwarming Superhero Superbook Holiday Club at the Kensington Docks Mission Church. With a desire to inspire faith from a young age, and recognising the deep affection many local children have for superheroes, he chose to centre the fun-loving event around the theme "Jesus is my Superhero". Jean-Marcel enthusiastically describes Superbook as a dynamic and versatile tool for teaching children while capturing their imaginations. The activities and games from the Superbook Teacher's Guide played a significant role in their Holiday Club, leaving a profound impact on the way the young attendees perceive and engage with the world.

A heartfelt When promise and journey hope take hands In the heart of East London, South Africa, lies a sanctuary of promise a place where the cries of abandoned babies find solace, where families yearning to love and care for a child are embraced, and where the most vulnerable among us are given a chance at a better future. Our Orphan’s Promisesupported organisation – Guardians of Hope – stands testament to the potential for abundant compassion and the boundless love that and the boundless love that resides in the human heart.

Orphan’s Promise helps a haven for children in need This Orphan’s Promise-supported organisation is more than just a place; it’s a beacon of light for abandoned babies and a lifeline for families eager to embrace the joys of parenthood. Their mission extends beyond simply nurturing infants; they also stand as unfaltering pillars of support for abandoned children with special needs and those who have suffered abuse. At the core of their existence lies a simple yet profound goal: to provide a haven for children in need. In August 2022, the organisation embarked on a remarkable journey as they moved to larger premises, extending their arms to embrace even more abandoned children longing for love and care. However, with great blessings often come great challenges. So, the Orphan’s Promise team, alongside

Guardians of Hope, offered help, forging an extraordinary partnership that would become a tale of hope, resilience and transformation. One of the most pressing issues that this haven faced in its new facility was an asbestos roof, which posed severe health risks, especially to the delicate health and well-being of small babies. It also hampered their hopes of utilising solar energy, an increasing necessity in South Africa, a country plagued by the harsh reality of load shedding. This often means a life with more obstacles for the most defenseless and at-risk in our society, lacking in basic needs – warmth and security. Though, through perseverance, fuelled by our very own community of dedicated supporters – collective compassion shone bright, yet again. Blessed by the commitment of our devoted Orphan’s Promise partners, we were able to rally behind this noble cause,

offering support to address these pressing concerns. Orphan’s Promise mobilised he replacement of the asbestos roof, transforming it into a safe haven for these precious babies preventing them, as well as staff members, from falling ill. The installation of solar panels ushered in a new era of sustainability, ensuring that these little ones would remain snug and safe. It promised warm baths, bottles and nourishing meals, all thanks to the love and support pouring in from caring hearts.

If you would like to support Orphan’s Promise and the wonderful work they are doing, please consider donating today. See page 5 to make a contribution.

The gift of sight

How two young women regained their vision

In the vast landscapes of South Africa, many young people bear the weight of debilitating medical conditions; their dreams eclipsed by circumstances beyond their control. For those dwelling in impoverished and remote corners of the country, the dream of life-altering surgeries often remains an unattainable reality, obscured by economic and financial barriers. Yet, amid these shadows of despair, Operation Blessing stands as a beacon of hope, committed to providing the necessary means for surgeries that can transform lives.

Shay-Lee’s story

Renewed dreams through a cornea transplant

Shay-Lee is a brave young woman on a quest to conquer Keratoconus a rare eye disorder a condition that has clouded her vision and dimmed a lot of possibilities in her life. Keratoconus, a word that speaks of struggle, manifests as a gradual thinning of the cornea, shaping it into a cone. For Shay-Lee, it affected her right eye, casting a perpetual haze of blurred vision and sensitivity to light and glare. The impact of Keratoconus was far-reaching, touching every facet of Shay-Lee’s life. Simple, everyday activities that most of us take for granted became arduous and frustrating challenges. Reading, writing, and participating in classroom activities were no longer effortless endeavours, but daunting mountains to climb. Her educational journey bore the weight of this condition, affecting her academic progress and dimming the prospects of a bright future. For all that, Shay-Lee faced more than just physical challenges. She wrestled with the isolation and exclusion that sometimes accompany such conditions. Her opportunities for social interactions and participation in extracurricular activities – limited. Still, Shay-Lee’s spirit remained unbroken. She stands as a testament to resilience, a beam of hope that even in the face of adversity, the human will can still outshine the darkness. While Keratoconus may have cast its shadow, it has not extinguished the light within her.

transplant for her right eye – Shay-Lee’s hope for a brighter future was restored. We would like to share our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional Dr. Nick York and his team, whose generosity and expertise played a pivotal role in making this life-changing surgery possible through Operation Blessing. Dr. York and his team selflessly volunteered their professional services, embodying the true spirit of compassion and embodying the true spirit of enduring kindness and giving back. Shay-Lee’s story reminds us of all that within the human spirit lies a steadfast strength, a determination to overcome, as well as a belief in brighter tomorrows. In joining together to help Shay-Lee reclaim her vision, dreams and future, we not only illuminated her life but also the hearts of everyone touched by her story, for in Shay-Lee’s courage, we find inspiration to face our own challenges with grace and resilience.

Meet Jo-Lynn

A world of possibilities reawakened with restored vision

In the heart of the Eastern Cape in a quiet town resides a remarkable young woman named Jo-Lynn. She carries with her a spirit filled with hope and determination, despite facing a challenging medical condition known as Keratoconus. A shadow towering over her, her condition has meant a blurry world where light is unwelcome. This uninvited guest has, in turn, intruded on her daily activities, thwarting her academic pursuits, and impeding the effortless social interactions that should be the hallmark of her youth. Yet, in the face of adversity, Jo-Lynn remained hopeful. Keratoconus may have altered the lens through which she views the world, but it has not dimmed her resilience or her dreams. Jo-Lynn's daily existence is marked by the persistent hurdles presented by her limited vision. Simple tasks that many take for granted, like reading, writing and actively engaging in classroom activities, have transformed into arduous feats, often leaving her feeling overwhelmed and disheartened. The impact of Keratoconus on her educational journey has been particularly profound, looming over the bright prospects she once envisioned. In the classroom, Jo-Lynn's struggle to keep pace with her peers has strained her educational development. The pursuit of knowledge, once a source of excitement, has become a formidable challenge. This, in turn, has created an unsettling uncertainty about her academic future, one that should have been filled with promise and possibility.

Beyond the confines of the classroom, the limitations imposed by her condition have extended into her social life. The vibrant tapestry of youthful friendships and extracurricular activities that should have coloured her world has, regrettably, remained out of reach. This isolation and exclusion have taken an emotional toll, leaving her yearning for the camaraderie and experiences that her peers enjoy so effortlessly. Through the intricate and transformative procedure of Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty, Jo-Lynn's world has been bathed in new-found hope and possibility. Unity through care shone bright during this heartening journey to restore Jo-Lynn’s vision. Filled with gratitude, it’s the unconditional support of our devoted donors, and the tireless dedication of medical professionals like Dr. York and his team, that have made this transformation possible. Dr. York's selfless commitment to volunteering his expertise through Operation Blessing has been nothing short of extraordinary. As we celebrate this uplifting success story, let it serve as a testament to the boundless potential of human kindness and collaboration. Together, we have not only restored Jo-Lynn's vision, but also lit he path for countless others to follow, proving that when hearts and hands join together in service, the world becomes a more inspiring and caring place.

“Operation Blessing stands as a beacon of hope, committed to providing the necessary means for surgeries that can transform lives.”

Read Lawrence’s testimony where he speaks about how prayer helped him.

My name is Lawrence. I would like to share an amazing testimony with you. I had sent an urgent prayer request for healing with prostatitis. I was in the hospital for treatment. Furthermore, my urologist had to do a cystoscopy and send tissue samples to check for prostate cancer. Anya prayed diligently for my healing and recovery. I wish to inform you that the Lord Jesus has healed me miraculously!! The test results show that there is no cancer in the prostate and bladder. Praise Jesus. I have a testimony to share with my non-Christian friends. Jesus never fails!!!

Embracing Our Diverse South African Identity South Africa, affectionately known as the Rainbow Nation, is a country known for its incredible diversity and rich history. Among the many holidays that grace our calendar, one stands out as a testament to our unity in diversity – Heritage Day. Celebrated on 24 September each year, this day invites us to embrace our unique cultural backgrounds while cherishing the common threads that bind us as South Africans. Heritage Day is more than just a public holiday; it’s a celebration of unity, understanding and respect. A day when South Africans of all backgrounds come together to honour their roots and history. One that encourages us to reflect on the past while embracing the present and looking toward the future. Heritage Day is a time to celebrate the colourful tapestry of cultures, languages and traditions that make Mzansi such a unique and beautiful place. As South Africans, we are able to showcase our culture’s vibrant cuisine, music, dance, art, clothing and traditions. From the rhythms of Zulu drums (Isigubu) to the aromas of a Cape Malay curry, our heritage is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be explored.

groups have found common ground through shared values, including faith. Heritage Day is not just a celebration of our past; it’s a celebration of our collective journey toward a brighter, more inclusive future. Here’s a sneak peek of how our team came together to showcase our unity and diversity as we celebrated the day together at our CBN offices in South Africa.
