ON THE GROUND HEADLINE

APRIL 2018 SUPERBOOK SALVATIONS: CBN SA held a Superbook pilot at a local church in Samora Machel (Cape Town) over the Easter weekend. This was the first of many pilots whereby churches are implementing the Superbook curriculum. 83 children attended the pilot. They watched the He Is Risen video which was fitting for the Easter weekend. 51 children in total accepted Jesus into their lives after the screening. This pilot saw many children from various backgrounds come together to learn the Biblical truth of God’s love for humanity and the sacrifice that was made at the cross. Life Church in Sea Point (Cape Town) also held a similar screening over the Easter weekend. 128 children attended the screening and 37 of them accepted Jesus into their lives!

HOSA Garden

Media Village / YWAM Ian, our Regional Director, had the opportunity in March to facilitate a mini-training with this year's YWAM 'Media Village' DTS students. The presentation was entitled “Missional Media & Online Opportunity”. These students are being prepared to go boldly into the Social Media Spaces (the largest and fastest-growing population on earth!) with the Truth and Love of Jesus. So getting to be part of inputting into their growth as a Media Ministry is always a great and important privilege. The YWAM students have also been attending our weekly prayer in the business park which has been so encouraging. Prayer Requests Please pray that we would be able to continue to inspire and lead the youth. Pray that God would bring forth opportunities for us to engage with young people.

CBN SA supports Hope Southern Africa’s (HOSA) 7deLaan, which is a community transformation initiative in an informal settlement on the out-skirts of Standfontein, Cape Town. HOSA, does a number of amazing things, but one project which we are helping is their Aquaponics Garden. With the help of CBN partners we are looking to upgrade HOSA’s garden. This will mean that the creche, which serves both orphans and children in the community, will be entirely sustained from the garden feeding about 40 children. It will also aid in the development of local farmers, and any excess produce can be sold. To top it all off, the entire farm will be maintained with sustainable water using rainwater catchment systems and specialized dehumidifiers in a close-loop system. This will mean a farm which is free of dependency of the city grid. Prayer Request Please pray for God's continued abundant provision in order to sustain and expand the vision.

Lesotho Well Rockabye Baby An orphanage in Cape Town for small babies was in desperate need for clean water to make milk for the babies. The orphanage currently has 8 babies that they are taking care of (aged 1 month to 2 years old). They require 20L of clean water per day to make milk for the infants. The caregivers have been relying on volunteers to drop off bottled water everyday but with the drought crisis in Cape Town its been very difficult. CBN has provided 3000+L of clean water to the orphanage that will be used over the next 6 months. THANK YOU CBN FOR HELPING US TAKE CARE OF THE BABIES. WE HAD A SHORTAGE OF WATER BUT NOW WE CAN TAKE CARE OF THE BABIES AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF WATER DAILY. ITS A BIG WEIGHT OFF OUR SHOULDERS.

Prayer Request

- Esther (Rockabye Baby)

Please pray for the babies and staff looking after the babies. Pray that God would meet their every need.

CBN SA embarked drilling its first well in Lesotho about 15km’s outside of Maseru, and partnered with a local church to bring water to a community which previously accessed all its water from natural springs. We were able to sink a 50+ meter deep borehole, which will be linked to a 5000L tank, with an access point for the public to obtain water at any-time, night or day. WE THANK CBN FOR THE WELL THAT THEY HAVE MADE, BECAUSE OUR VILLAGE DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH WATER TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL THE PEOPLE. OUR PREVIOUS WATER SOURCE WAS A NATURAL SPRING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND THE SUPPLY WAS NOT ALWAYS SUFFICIENT, SO THIS NEW WELL WILL HELP A LOT. THANK YOU SO MUCH."

- Oliphant (Local Pastor)

Prayer Request Please pray with the church in Lesotho that the well will act as an open door to reach more for Christ, and that the well will go on to bless the community for years to come

First 1000 days

Lunchtime Prayer

CBN supports the 1st 1000 days program to help moms and their babies. This is one of the success stories: Baby G was born 3 months premature and spent 1 month in hospital before being discharged. We met Baby G and her mother on a routine follow-up home visit. It was discovered that the mom had recently begun to mix feed Baby G. She was returning to part time work and did not realize she could hand express and leave breast milk for Baby G. After education and re-teaching of hand expression, Mama G agreed that she’d like to leave her breast milk for Baby G from now on.

During one of our weekly Wednesday lunchtime prayer sessions we went around the business park handing out invitations to our prayer room and praying with people in the business park. We met a receptionist who had promised to come for prayer. She came the following week Wednesday. As we spoke to her we realized she was not saved. She mentioned that she did attend a local church service but always felt that she was not ready to commit her life to the Lord. We spoke for some time and we read scriptures and at the end she chose to accept Jesus into her life. We gave her some encouraging reading material to read that can help her as she begins to walk with the Lord. Prayer Request

Additionally, upon assessment of Baby G, there were some concerns about her development. We suggested to Mama G that she hold Baby G in upright positions that helps Baby G gain strength in her neck and upper body. We have also referred her to a qualified nurse for an assessment. Prayer Request Please pray for all the moms and babies going through the program.

Pray that everyone who attends our weekly prayer session will have an encounter with Jesus Christ.

Superbook Activations Superbook held four different activation's since January this year. .These included activation's at Life Church, Langa Baptist, Connect Church and in Manenburg. The purpose of the activation's are to bring awareness to children and parents about Superbook and the Superbook App that has educational activities and games that can be used to nurture children’s spiritual formation and development. The activation falls part of Superbook’s greater strategy to work with churches and communities in equipping children to become partners in missions. I HAVE WORKED IN MANY COMMUNITIES, DELFT, MITCHELLS PLAIN , GRASSY PARK AND ALL OF THEM HAVE THEIR FAIR SHARE OF PROBLEMS AND ARE PLAGUED WITH HOPELESSNESS . MANENBERG IS NO DIFFERENT. YET DESPITE ALL OF THIS, I NEVER LOOSE SIGHT OF THE PRIVILEGE OF BRINGING A MESSAGE OF HOPE TO AN ENVIRONMENT SUCH AS THIS. I CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL LIKE THE BOY WITH FIVE LOAVES AND TWO FISH WHEN SHARING SUPERBOOK WITH CHILDREN... - Superbook Manager, Southern Africa

GLOBAL REACH

Prayer Requests Pray that every child that comes into contact with Superbook has an encounter with the living God and will be equipped to do missions for Christ. ANNE KASOMBO (KENYAN DIRECTOR) AND IAN WALTON (JOINED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE AFRICAN MISSION HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION) VISITED 3 MEDICAL FACILITIES IN TANZANIA AND MALAWI THAT FORM PART OF CBN-AMHF’S COLLABORATIVE PROJECT TO CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE GREAT WORK DONE IN SOME OF AFRICA’S TOP MISSION HOSPITALS. "IT WAS A GREAT PRIVILEGE TO VISIT THESE PLACES AND FEEL A SMALL PART OF HOW GOD’S KINGDOM IS MADE REAL ON A DAILY BASIS THROUGH THESE HOSPITALS." IAN WALTON

IN FOCUS My son Will, who is 5, watched the Superbook series during the December holidays last year, and he was absolutely captivated. He knows most of the Bible stories and themes, but Superbook really brought them to life for him, as well as helped him relate to them via Chris and Joys practical experiences. A particular instance which demonstrated the impact it has had on him was when he was preparing to start at a new school this year, and was very anxious the week before and the first week of school. But as he was reminded of the last episode of Superbook (Revelation) which was his favourite, and how Chris heard God say “Do not be afraid, I will never leave you nor forsake you”, he responded “oh yes, I know that, God is always with me, I will never be alone, not even at a new school”, and I could see he really knew that too in his heart. He has since often spontaneously mentioned out the blue “I am never alone!” He also recalled that this promise of God made a “shield” around Chris, and that he was protected. This gave him so much assurance, and helped a lot through anxious times and no doubt will continue to help him through life ahead. So thank you to Superbook and the team for helping bring these lessons and promises to life in the hearts and spirits of our kids! Trish -Cape Town

The mission of CBN and its affiliated organizations is to prepare nations of the world for the coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth.
