We did not choose God; He chose us. We deserve a penalty for our sins, yet He had compassion and grace for us. And He has chosen us for service - not just for all eternity, but for right now.
Our Message Ian Walton | Regional Director Warm greetings from me and the CBN SA Team as we rapidly head towards Christmas and 2020! In September we held our Community Breakfast in Cape Town. It really was wonderful to meet some of our Western Cape partners for the first time, and we are looking forward to hosting similar events in KZN and Gauteng in the new year. During the breakfast, as well as in our previous Frontlines edition, I mentioned the launch of “The 700 Club ZA. We are excited about this and I wanted to let you in on a bit more detail! God is giving more and more shape to The 700 Club ZA as together we start to prayerfully unpack and discuss what we believe He is specifically asking us to join Him in over the medium term. It really feels like He is taking us back to our amazing CBN heritage, but simultaneously forward into authentic engagement with and upliftment of the people of our nation. My aim is that by very early next year we will have put together a comprehensive 2 year strategic plan from which to outwork this new vision into South Africa: 1. To influence Jesus followers to be Nation Builders (discipleship)
Through media and engagement that helps to disciple believers by challenging them (as we challenge ourselves) to be involved in hope-filled, faith-filled living and biblical social justice. This will also happen through events and opportunities on the ground. 2. To influence Nation Builders to be Jesus followers (evangelism) Through media and engagement that communicates the gospel and testifies of His love, greatness and holiness. This will also happen through collaborative community development projects and biblical social justice, as we seek to uplift, serve and honour all people in our nation. 3. To cultivate a climate of faith through prayer Through our prayerlines, prayer strategies & prayer campaigns. We want to live in prayerful expectancy for regular miracles, revelation and provision. As one of our faithful partners, I wanted to take this opportunity to briefly share this with you as we start to look and plan towards the future. Early in the new year we will be asking you to consider getting more directly involved - either in prayer, in one of our special projects or in the mobilization of new partners, as we look to multiplying the growing work God is putting into our hands. Very exciting times!

Cape Town - Thanks a Brunch!
O
n 14 September 2019 we hosted our first ever Community Breakfast in Cape Town. We invited our beloved partners and special friends to spend the morning getting to know us, and us them. If you joined us for the morning – we are so grateful that you were able to join us, we appreciate it a latte! This time around, we tried something new. Rather than formally presenting you, our guests, with our latest updates and plans, we took the time to engage and bring across the heart of CBN. We went right back to the roots and birth of CBN, and in response, introduced The 700 Club ZA to you. Amidst the hilarious puns (no bias here…), team introductions, and storytelling, something incredible happened.
| 5
God was moving. He was working in the hearts of our guests, in us, and in the environment. We felt the shift, and we’re sure our guests did too. Sometimes His goodness leaves us changed, incapable of staying the same. His presence can do a lot more change than we ever could, and we’re still feeling incredibly blessed by the work He set into motion at our community breakfast. Thank you to everyone that attended – each smile, greeting and well wish was greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Iliana Efstratiou, Getrude Moyo and Thabile Molapisane, our trusty volunteers, who organised the beautiful décor and ensured that the day ran smoothly. Jubilee
Community Church did a fantastic job hosting us, The Burrow provided quality coffee and the food was delicious. Each guest would also have received a bottle of olive oil – proudly made in Cape Town by our partner HOSA. Vovo Telo Steenberg also provided the vouchers for our hamper winners. As a team, we were greatly blessed and encouraged by your presence and the generosity of our partners. We can’t wait to see what the next season holds, and we can’t wait to host our first community breakfasts’ in Gauteng and KZN! Until next time - that’s all, yolks.

Worshiping in Spirit and Truth "True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth."
W
hat does it mean to worship in spirit and truth? The phrase comes from the wonderful story in John 4 about Jesus’ encounter with a Samaritan woman at a well Jacob had dug centuries earlier. Jesus asks the woman for a drink, yet she questions why He would, since Jews typically avoided Samaritans. Jesus replies that He is the source of living water, saying, “The water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” He is declaring to her, I am the Messiah, I am the Promised One. The woman states, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.” She continues, “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” She’s essentially asking, Who is right? Jesus responds by saying quite clearly, “Salvation is of the Jews.” Then He adds: “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will | 7

worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” So, what is a clear definition of “spirit and truth”? Jesus tells us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” If we want to worship the Father in truth, we must worship through Jesus, His only begotten Son – sent into the world to reconcile us to God through His precious blood. Yet we must also worship in the Spirit, freely given to us by Jesus, who is the baptizer in the Spirit. As John the Baptist testifies in John 1:33-34: “’This is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” So to worship in spirit and in truth is to worship the Father in the Holy Spirit with the salvation that Jesus provides. That is what God is looking for. God bless you!
So to worship in spirit and in truth is to worship the Father in the Holy Spirit with the salvation that Jesus provides. That is what God is looking for.

CBN - The History, Legacy and Heart
by Robyn Tichauer
I
n planning for the our recent God’s promises are the same Community Breakfast, we found yesterday, today, tomorrow ourselves – as a team – going down the amazing historical path of CBN 412 years ago, on 29 April 1607, globally. We’ve been rediscovering the British landed in Cape Henry, the roots of CBN, discussing Virginia. They planted a cross in the 400-year-old promises being sand, knelt in prayer, and dedicated fulfilled, and finding this incredible that coastline to God and His faith legacy being established again mission – that it might be used to as the foundation of our own roles spread the Gospel worldwide. and purpose here at CBNSA. 350 years after that, after prayer, I joined CBNSA just 6 months ago. fasting and failure, Pat Robertson As I’ve learned about CBN and found himself scraping funds through reading Pat Robertson’s together to buy a dilapidated autobiography Shout it from the broadcasting station in Virginia Housetops, three things have Beach, a mere 30 minute drive from become powerfully evident to me. where the settlers had first landed These things have taught me so and uttered their prayer. much about my role within the 62 years after that… And we organisation and, more profoundly, are where we are today. My hope is broadcasts across the globe, we’re that you will find them equally introducing people to our faithful challenging and inspiring as you also God and we’re trying to love them try to live out His call on your life. of CBN is evidence of that. Prayer is crazy powerful We know this, we’ve heard it countless times. But do we really know it? Do we feel the power of our prayer resounding in our hearts and minds? How often do we say a prayer and then still lean on our own strength and understanding to see the answers come to pass? I certainly do that too often. One thing that struck me while reading Shout it from the Housetops was Pat’s consistency and belief when it comes to prayer. He’s certainly human and has made many mistakes, but ultimately, his belief in God and submission to Him through prayer is what got CBN to where it is today. If he hadn’t sought God through prayer as often as he did, and submitted to God’s commands and promptings through prayer… I don’t think CBN would even be in existence. People wouldn’t be touched through the worldwide broadcasting platforms, thousands of lives wouldn’t be uplifted through the global humanitarian efforts and the love of God wouldn’t be reaching as far or as wide. It seems that Pat understood that we have the ability to tap into the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. And that’s all possible through simple, faith-filled prayer. God cares about every detail Pat Robertson gave up a future of
financial security, political power and easy living because he felt the pull of God. At times he was broke, with no idea where the next meal would come from to feed his family… Yet, he still obeyed and followed where he believed God was calling him to. They always had food to eat and a roof over their heads. Their children were always clothed and loved. Yes, things were really tough at times and their motivation and hope may have wavered, but God always came through and provided what they needed. God cares about the little things in our lives just as much as the big things. He cares about our basic needs as well as our desires and our ambitions. He cares about the little orphan growing up without love and hope. He cares about the desperate person struck by disease or disaster. He cares, and He loves. The conclusion – the heart of CBN As an organisation, we want all the beautiful people of Southern Africa to hear the Living Word and have a real encounter with God. We want all people to experience His goodness and know who He is. We want all people to understand the amazing grace of the gospel. We’ve tasted and seen that He is good and we, too, want to “shout it from the housetops!’! It’s no longer became mere obedience, it’s become a heart passion, drive and desire for me, for my teammates, and for the organisation as a whole.

We need to celebrate and appreciate life! | By Meagan Taylor

t the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to joyfully celebrate the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres. The singers also were brought together from the region around Jerusalem—from the villages of the Netophathites. Nehemiah 12, 13:1-3 Celebration is an essential part our lives, as seen in Nehemiah. It is clear from scripture that celebration is a practical spiritual discipline that God desires for us to practice every day. It was never God’s will for Christians to live boring lives and that’s why we see celebrations both commanded and practised throughout the Bible. Let’s come together this festive season to celebrate what God has done in our lives this year. Yes, there have been tough seasons… some that we might not be free from yet. It was not all smoothsailing for Nehemiah and God’s people to build the wall, yet Nehemiah (as above) tells us that they still celebrated joyfully and whole-heartedly. It’s true that everything we do should be dedicated to the Lord and for His glory—our work, our marriage, our friendships, our
eating and drinking. Consider what Paul taught:
So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. - 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. - Colossians 3:23 Let us dedicate everything to God as we end off this year and start a new one. Let us honour God in joyful celebration with our hearts, will and mind. Let us honour Him in the relationships that we have with those around us and let us be neighbours to them as it says in Matthew 22, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Thank you, CBN partners, for sowing so faithfully and praying for all that benefit from the projects that CBN supports. Thank you for choosing to be someone’s neighbour. May you be blessed tenfold this holiday season.
Christmas is a time of joyful celebration and giving. If you'd like to give to others this festive season, connect with us by visting www.cbnafrica.org/ region/south-africa/ 12 |

Multiple God-inspired solutions and more shocking and worrisome is that children are not just becoming interventions are needed to tackle victims of crime but are becoming the moral decay we find ourselves

We wholeheartedly believe that strong spiritual foundations in children is critical, as it influences how we think, what we value and how we act. It has been proven that children raised in environments that encourage a rich spiritual life tend to be optimistic, resilient and have a deep appreciation for the sacredness of life. Spiritual development in early childhood encourages healthy views of ethics and a strong sense of justice that motivates individuals towards acts of kindness, compassion, and charity (1). Your prayers and partnership makes it possible for us to ensure that the programmes and resources that we offer are relevant and can captivate the minds of our young children whilst empowering them to become the best versions of themselves. Thanks to your partnership, we are able to reach children in their social spaces (schools, churches, media, etc) and have the Word of God take shape and form in their hearts. All of this contributes to assisting us in spreading the Word of God. This is the void that our children are crying out to have filled. It all contributes significantly to the

moral regeneration of our country. My highlight for the year is often the Mama Magic Expo. This exhibition is targeted at parents and takes place annually. We started participating in it last year. The aim is to promote the importance of spiritual development in children, as this is a critical part of their growth in as much as their physical and mental wellbeing. We recognise that a ministry like Superbook would not go far if we didn’t equip and empower parents with the resources they need. It is such a privilege to not only expose mothers and fathers to resources needed for the spiritual formation in their children, but to pray for them as they embark on this amazing, lifelong journey of parenthood. Updates: Superbook Clubs: We have reached our target of launching 5 pilot Superbook Clubs this year and are looking to start more. The kids involved are doing extremely well and are enjoying the programme. We are looking forward to receiving feedback that will help us measure the impact of the programme on the children’s characters and spiritual growth. We will be hosting a Superbook Champion event in February next year.
Upcoming Events: • Mama Magic Expo(1-3 November). It is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of spiritual development in children. • Waterfront end of year Christmas screening. It will be held on the 9th to 11th of December at the amphitheatre.
Prayer Points: • Mama Magic is a very special event in our calendar year. It is aimed at reaching out to parents to expose them to the various resources available that make it easier for them to disciple their children and to be intentional about their children’s spiritual growth. We are praying for an amazing turn out and a godly atmosphere that will make it easier to minister to mothers, fathers and children. • To have more solid connections in other Southern African countries so as to establish Superbook on the ground in various communities. • More Superbook champions and supporters to come alongside us in the fulfilment of the Superbook mission.

Purifying Your Motives | By Nic Barker
T
his month’s theme is thanks, life, celebration and reconciliation. One word which I think can be associated with each of the four above is the word joy. And this word – joy - is as a result of a particular exhortation of Christ. One which my wife and I have been mediating on and praying into over the last two weeks. “Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” – Jesus’ words as recorded in John 16:23-24 NIV The above verse is quite straight forward. Jesus says that we may ask for anything in His name. When we do, we will receive, and when we receive, we shall have fullness of joy. Is it just me, or does this verse seem a little bit like a ‘genie-in-a-bottle ask and it shall be granted’ instruction? Believe it to not, Jesus encourages us to ask in a few other places in the gospels as well. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all have records of Jesus’ encouragement to ask. So does this mean I can finally ask

God for that Ferrari? Not quite. James brings us some clarity on the subject: “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:2-3 NIV From this we see that it is not what we ask for which is the issue, but the motive behind what we ask for. In other words, you could have two men asking for bread, but even though they ask for the same harmless thing, their motives could be radically different. This is encouraging for a number of reasons. For starters, the Father protects us from ourselves when we ask with impure motives. Because we see that it is not about what we ask for - we are now free to ask for the impossible, big and radical things. Lastly, when we ask with the right motives, we will get
the answer to our prayers, and one consequences of the answer to our prayer is joy. And who doesn’t want the fullness of joy? At CBN, we are asking God for bigger and better things. As we see Him bringing the answers and granting our requests, our faith grows to pursue Him for that which we previously thought was impossible.
We are asking him to impact our nation, to see nation builders come to know Christ, and for Christ followers to build the nation. My question to you today is – What are you asking God for, and are you asking God for big things? I’ll leave you with this tip: start off by asking God to purify your motives. I believe the rest will flow from there.
Humanitarian Updates The Humanitarian Department has received numerous donations of clothing and food packs. We will be keeping these for disaster relief efforts that may need immediate action. * On the right we supplied a Hopekit, as well as other necessities, to a lady in Manenberg whose home recently burnt down. As an office, we recently took part in a Teenage Awareness Workshop at a local school. This comes out of a response to some of the recent challenges our country has experienced with regards to gender-based violence. We were blessed with the time we spent with the preteens and can’t wait to help facilitate more workshops alongside Life Matters.

Q&A Q with Pat
When I pray, do I always need to ask for forgiveness of my sins or was that taken care of when I gave my life to Jesus? What is the right way to pray?
A
Pat Robertson Founder of The Christian Broadcasting Network Do you have a question for Pat? Log on to cbn.com/ bringitonline and follow the instructions to submit your questions.
Theologian John Wesley said there wasn't a day that went by when he didn't plead the blood of Jesus to forgive him of his sins. First John 1:7 says, If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. In the Greek, it's present tense, which means that He continuously cleanses us. The right way to pray starts with allowing Him to live in you, forgiving not hating. God is a spirit, so we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Our spirits need to be ight with Him. That comes through constant fellowship with Him, praying without ceasing.
