OUR MESSAGE |
Dear Friends, I write to you on the eve of our first Partners Event in Durban, which I am really excited about. It is such a pleasure for me when I get the opportunity meet CBN partners like you, mostly for the first time. Talking, shaking hands and hugging the people who support this amazing ministry with such generosity and love feels a bit like coming home! “This is how we know what love is: He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers”. 1 John 3:16 I’ve been thinking a lot about love, and what it means to love and to be loved. There is love in my home each evening when my kids race to greet me. Love in the serving, passionate heart of my wife. Love in the sacrificial acts of kindness done to me and around me. But feeling it and receiving it is a whole lot easier than giving it and living it. Especially the revolutionary, transformative kind of love that Christ calls us into.
Ian Walton CBN Southern Africa Regional Director Don’t forget, we also love to pray with you - about anyone or anything. Give our prayerline a call on (021) 701 1776 or you can email prayer@cbnsa.org or WhatsApp +27 71 763 810
We’re Social! @CBNSouthAfrica
Worldly or even religious love is often transactional and shallow. It is sincere, but it is not unconditional. It is nice, but not transformative. But the kind of love Christ invites us to receive, and then give - is radical, deep and raw. It comes from a place of abiding, being rooted in Him and His love for you and then intentionally allowing that to spill over into the lives of those around you. We shouldn’t be trying to act more loving, we should be trying to abide in Him and then obey His word and voice in our lives. You can’t give what you don’t have. I have found, as you may have too, that there is a special opportunity to experience this kind of revolutionary love when: * I don’t like someone – but I allow God to love them through me * Someone won’t / can’t love us back – and I allow God to love them through me * Loving someone involves proper sacrifice (including financial). When I do this I automatically become a lot more like the one I follow - “He laid down His life for us”. I challenge you today to look for opportunities to love with this kind of love, as I challenge myself. Doing it will cost us. But it will change us. It will change those we give it to. And it will draw an unbelieving world to Jesus.
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35 | 01

Called, Equipped and Empowered Building Eternal Tabernacles for His Glory
By Gordon Robertson, Chief Executive Officer 02 |
FEATURE |
There’s an interesting parallel between the Israelites building a tabernacle for God in the wilderness and CBN’s mission. The wilderness today is the world, where we are building tabernacles—one life at a time. We are telling people in other cultures and languages that they can be dwelling places of the Lord. As Jesus commanded, “This Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations” (Matthew 24:14 ). That verse of Scripture is engraved over the door of CBN’s Studio Headquarters. When we dedicated that building in 1979, Billy Graham gave one of the most inspiring sermons I’ve ever heard. He said that for the first time in history, we have the technology to preach the Gospel to every tribe, every tongue, and every nation. Whenever God calls people, He equips them for the task. The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt; how could they build a beautiful tabernacle? Exodus 35:30-34 gives the answer: “The Lord has called by name Bezalel … and He has called him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, … to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of artistic
workmanship. And He has put in his heart the ability to teach.” Torah scholars say it was a miracle for all of these different skillsets to be placed in one man—including the desire to teach. While I was in Manila with CBN Asia, we had “the slash team.” This meant that one day you might run the camera, while the next day you might direct, or archive, or edit, etc. You did it all because we couldn’t accord to do it differently—and it became a badge of honor to be on the slash team. A slogan I’ve adopted is, “When I’m willing to learn, a teacher will appear.” If we admit that we don’t know what we’re doing—but God does—we are ready to learn. As Jesus was teaching the disciples, He modeled how to do what He taught. He doesn’t hold these gifts to Himself; He imparts them to us by His Spirit. So pray about what the Lord wants you to do right now. Ask Him to equip you with His wisdom and understanding. And boldly pray that He enables us together to preach His glorious Gospel to every tribe, tongue and nation. God bless you. Scripture is taken from the NKJV except as noted. This teaching was given during a CBN staff chapel.

| PARTNERSHIP
An Old Fashioned Friendship Success in most areas of life does require some sort of healthy partnership, and this is the same when it comes to ministry. It is my desire that we would build an ‘old fashioned friendship’ with you, our valuable CBN partner. Have you ever heard the saying, “True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. False ones are like autumn leaves, found everywhere.” At CBN SA we believe in deep and meaningful relationships that are precious and rare. We strive to pray with and for one another daily. We have devotional times set-aside three times a week to encourage, challenge and empower each other as a team. And we want to invite you into this friendship with us! What could this possibly look like practically? Well, having a genuine friendship means that we will encourage and challenge one another to live our best thoughts, honour our purest motives, and achieve our most significant dreams. We want to open the doors to you, to have two way communication with us!
Meagan Taylor | Partnership & Sustainability Manager As our friend, you can feel free to call us for prayer or perhaps you are going through something and need encouragement. We can send you reading material to help you in your journey in faith. We want to have fun as friends so join us on a ministry outreach visit or come and pop into our office for coffee and meet the team! We just want to ask you, what does your friendship circle look like? Who are you talking to about the hard and difficult stuff in life? Who encourages you in your walk with the Lord? A biblical friendship is life changing and transformative and we want to be your friend!
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 Reach out to us!

Creative Communications Summit in South Africa In June of this year, the CBN Africa Communications team held its first Creative Communications Summit in our Cape Town regional office. Friends from our various CBN Africa office flew to the Cape for an exploration of some new, inspiring, innovative and ground breaking topics around the communications and digital evangelism sphere. As a media organization, CBN Africa aims to spread the Gospel message in relevant and inspiring ways. We also aim to strengthen and support familys and individuals through the creative use of media products, services and 10 |
humanitarian aid. With the help of our partners these things are possible. The Creative Summit was really birthed out of a passion and a desire to disciple our social media followers in a new way. Discussions inbetween offices around Africa and the globe begged for a proper meet up in person to discuss and strategize where we move forward when it comes to producing relevant, inspiring and authentic communications across the board. The discussions were around the African identity and who we are as CBN Africa, the journey has only just begun.
COMMUNICATIONS |
We believe that Africa has a prophetic voice that can speak to the world, and Africa is a perfect platform for a lot of change, revival and shift, even on a global scale. Our dream and vision as CBN is to ‘prepare the nations of the world for the coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.’ Our mandate in Africa, then becomes “to prepare the nations of Africa for the coming of Jesus Christ....” The Creative Summit gave our team a platform to share ideas, and to discuss how we should be producing incredible Kingdom content. The team from CBN represents countries such as Zimbabwe, Senegal, South Africa, Nigeria, the US, Kenya and Ghana.
Some of our workshops were lead by some significant and admirable leaders in our context, Mahlatse Mashua from Ravi Zacharias Ministries, Rob & Karin Schermbrucker from Slingshot Media, Timothy Gane from Private Label, Varsha Sherring and Richard Helsby from CBN digital unit in the CBN Virginia Beach office and our regional Director for Southern Africa, Ian Walton. It was an honour for us to host all these special people in one office, and to have the opportunity to pray over our continent of Africa for breakthrough to come. We are immensely blessed to carry this particular mandate, and will continue to move from Glory to Glory as God gives us grace to do so.

Growing in Godly Wisdom Written by Gordon Robertson How can we grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God? One good way is through experience. I vividly recall the first time I ever spoke in a courtroom as a lawyer for a paying client. I had won the Trial Award at my law school graduation, so I thought I was ready—until I stood up in that courtroom and suddenly realised that all my book learning was useless without the actual experience of trying a real case. There is only one way to get that experience, and it was through my mistakes that I learned some very valuable lessons. We can also grow in wisdom through difficulties. Paul had been shipwrecked, beaten, stoned, and left for dead. Yet he writes in Romans 5:3-4: “We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” 12 |
In Greek, the word character means “tested and approved.” You have gone through trying times and didn’t wilt under fire. You came back proven and solid, and you understand who you are in Christ. Whatever circumstance you face, you know nothing can stand against you. That’s why Paul goes on to say in Romans 5:5: “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” This is the voice of experience. This is the voice of someone who knows he can trust God, no matter what happens. Faith is spelled r-i-s-k. You are out of your comfort zone. The only thing you know is that God said it. And He wants His people to say, “That’s all I need, God. If You have said it, I will go.” Then we trust God to see us through. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” We need to humble ourselves and say, “God, I don’t know what I’m doing; please guide me like a child.” He won’t get mad when we ask; instead, He promises to give us wisdom liberally. Finally, we find this key in Proverbs 11:30: “He who wins souls is wise.” God has chosen and appointed us

to preach His Gospel to every nation, tongue and tribe. By winning souls we prove our wisdom, showing that our true treasure is heaven. God bless you.
HOW TO GROW IN GODLY WISDOM To grow in Godly wisdom, we need to absorb it. Memorising Scripture is a fantastic way of taking God’s Word from face value to making it a part of our very being. Here are some key passages of Scripture to encourage you which will, no doubt, serve you in the years to come.
“The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.” (Psalm 37:30) “The beginning of wisdom is this: get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” - (Proverbs 4:7) “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” - (Proverbs 19:20) | 13

INTERN ASHLEY KASOMBO WRITES ABOUT HER TIME AT CBN My internship at CBN SA was one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life. I had the opportunity to serve alongside a team that have chosen to make an earthly and eternal impact. I saw what it looks like for a leader to lead with a servant’s heart and experienced a team that felt like family. The fruits of these qualities, felt the minute you walk through the door, did not leave me the same. I was given the opportunity to engage with the various ministries done at CBN and throughout everything was to serve the same purpose, seeing God’s kingdom here on earth. Through this, I learned what it really looks like to pursue the Lord from a ministry platform. Needless to say, the team at CBN SA is
passionate about God’s Kingdom and the pursuit of excellence in their work is evident every day. It was refreshing to work with a ministry team that cares about what God cares for and doesn’t hesitate to say, “God, what can we do for you”? I experienced so much love, community, personal growth and awareness of God’s presence there that I could not have hoped to find anywhere else. Not only do I feel like I grew professionally, but my internship also served as a catalyst for intense spiritual growth. I would truly encourage everyone to find out more about CBN and I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to serve with them. | 15

Q&A
Your questions, with honest answers by Pat Robertson
Q: Is the biblical perspective on predestination with regard to salvation?
Pat Robertson Founder of The Christian Broadcasting Network
Do you have a question for Pat? Log on to CBN. com/BringItOnline and follow the instructions to submit your question.
John Calvin was a theologian who believed in predestination: some are predestined for salvation, and some are not. The concept is about bound will. You’re bound by a destiny that is upon you. The Arminian school of thought—including Methodists, Pentecostals, and others—believe that God does not predestine salvation. I do not believe in predestination regarding salvation. Yes, the Bible says in Ephesians 1:4 that he chose us in him before the creation of the world. You can read some predestination into that. I do believe I am chosen in the Lord. But the idea that you cannot come to the Lord because your will is bound is not biblical. God blessed us with a free will. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justifi ed, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
