Valentine’s Day Happy

Kimi Simon WRITER

Traditionally it’s a day to celebrate the one you love. But that could be your wife, husband, son, daughter, mother or father. It’s a day that we set aside to make sure the ones we love know they mean the world to us. I believe that when you start a relationship , you should start everyday practicing little things you can do to show appreciation with a plan for yourself, if you want a long time relationship then you need to work everyday on showing love to your sweetheart, anything worth wild takes effort, keep yourself in check and love will prosper.

Joey and I met 9 years ago on MySpace lol. It started with messaging and when we met in person, we have been together. Valentine’s day isn’t really a big hype to us, we will just cuddle on the couch and do dinner and movies. We do get one another something little but sentimental. He is the most awesome man I have in my life. He has taken on as a father to my two daughters which has been hard in the past. We have had ups and downs but that’s what has made us as strong as we are today. There’s nothing hidden and we are as loyal as they come. Sometimes it’s funny to hear our friends tell us that we inspire them as a couple, but then it just makes me know that this life with my husband is worth everything and we both know whatever it is we will overcome and that’s what makes us that strong.

It was October 28th, 2011. We each had a kid in the same class, in the first grade together. We had both agreed to Volunteer at the school’s annual Fall Festival. We both ended up working the class’s booth together, a cotton candy machine. Let it be known, it was not a top of the line cotton candy machine, in fact it didn’t even have a lid to keep the web of sugar from coating you! We hit if off there, but didn’t exchange numbers or anything, but kept running into each other in town, and ended up exchanging numbers. I was the first one to make a move and asked him if he wanted

stuff she pretty much saved my life I had already been to prison 6 times my road was as getting very narrow but then she came into my life her and her beautiful kids which are now my kids from the first day I laid eyes on her I knew than she was gonna change my life forever and it happened I have been the happiest I have ever been the last 9 years got to be involved with are daughters growing and turning into beautiful women I’m not real good at this stuff. All I know is that I love my wife more than life itself.

others to know true love still exist in an era of cyber love relationships. Funny story is when I met Anna, my wife, she wanted to introduce me to a single cousin of hers she never imagined dating a guy 11 years younger. With a lot of patience, I pursed Anna until I broke her down with my sense of humor and good looks LoL. She’ll tell you today it’s my blue eyes and my dance moves that locked it in. We have had a whirlwind of experiences from being in a motorcycle club to trading in those wild times for kids, dogs and 2 cats. And we wouldn’t trade it for the world. God was truly the divine intervention that brought two very different people together.

to go out for coffee, and he panicked and told me he was busy. We still kept talking though, and eventually, we had our first date. We had brought our kids with us and went to the bowling alley. While we played pool, our kids played the video games getting to know each other more. We hung out more and more, and finally started dating about a month later. He ended up proposing, about 9 or 10 months later, on Valentine’s Day. We got married on August 4, 2012. Now here we are almost 7 years later, with 5 kids, and 100% in love.

William and Kristin Flood This is a story of my husband William Flood and I. It’s that “High School Sweet Heart” kinda story. I was best friends with Williams sister since 5th grade so we have known each other a very long time. I had a crush on him all through high school and I never told him. I knew that he had a muscle disorder and many health issues and was disabled but you know none of that mattered to me. He was the kindest most caring person I have ever met. Then one day two of my friends found out that I had a crush on him. Then after some time that we spoke William and I started dating. funny part was the whole time I had a crush on me too. so, we dated through all through High School and continued after graduating we dated about 5 years and on April 21st,2009 William asked me to marry him of course I

said Yes! We were engaged for about a year. On April 18th, 2010 we got married. It was a wonderful wedding couldn’t have been better. William had always been told that See valentine’s day Continued on page 2

What does Valentine’s Day mean to me? Being a typically women, I would have to say...Roses, yes roses. A single one or by the dozen, it doesn’t really matter. Oh, and then there’s Candy, yes candy. A small box of designer truffles or one of those huge red hearts filled with all sorts of dreamy sweetness. Also, who could forget Dinner out, yes Dinner out. You know, you’re on the arm of Mr. Wonderful, the meal and wine are perfect. Well girls who could ask for more? How exciting, Valentine’s Day! Here in begins the real Valentine’s Day experience. I met a guy a couple of years ago who worked at the same facility I was stationed at. Upon introduction we shook hands politely and as I was walking away, I said by the way I’m Penny. His reply was uhhh Fred. From that day forward as, I tried to remember people’s names I would say Hello Fred as I passed him. He was nobody, I was nobody we just worked at the same facility. One day this Fred person called me out on the

hands not the doctors. We wanted a child so badly but with his family and ours we prayed. so once again We proved that God is bigger than any doctor. I found out I was pregnant and on Oct. 14, 2015 we had a beautiful little boy who is completely healthy. We had our miracle baby that

everyone had helped us pray for He is now 3 years old. So now we’ve been together for 14 years and It’s been a great14 years Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone. A Story of Love and Blessings.

floor in front of God and My supervisors yelling that I constantly park my vehicle in his spot, and he wanted me reprimanded for this. Who is this Fred person and why does he feel the need to be so mean? After all, the parking spaces don’t have names on them they are just first come first serve. So, after I was sufficiently scolded by my supervisor I turned to this mean man and said “Fred, I apologize for parking in your spot, I had no idea it meant that much to you. He said apology accepted, and also, why do you keep calling me Fred? My name is David! At this point I actually felt anger. I asked him why he would tell me his name was Fred and have me walk around for months playing the fool.... I was definitely losing my cool with this guy. He told me he just didn’t want to have to deal with me and that he was being a jerk. Don’t ask me how it happen or when it happened but a couple of years later, I find myself married to this wonderful man. It’s like we were always meant to be together. In fact, our daughter

looks at us the other day and said “You guys are like peanut butter and jelly. Our families have blended perfectly and love always seems to be in the air. You never know what awaits you in life. Our preconceptions of what is perfect and how thing are supposed to play out can be the things that truly make us foolish. I have learned not to plan the perfect moment but to live and enjoy all the blessing given to me. I know Life, just like Valentine’s Day is not always Roses or Candy or Dinner Out, but for me and my David AKA Fred, Valentine’s Day means Peanut Butter and Jelly!

More Than Just Hearst Castle and San Simeon

Kelli Morgan Langley WRITER

When you mention Cambria or San Simeon on the Central Coast, the first thing most people think is “Hearst Castle”. But there is so much more to this quaint little town than just that: beaches that call out to be walked along, shopping in unique little locally-owned shops, art galleries, camping, wine tasting, and exploring this beachfront heaven. Every year Cambria hosts such events as the Cambria Art and Wine Festival, the Cambria Chili Cook-Off & Classic Car Show, the Cambria Western Dance Jamboree, the Cambria Business Show-

case and the Cambria Festival of the Trees. San Simeon hosts a “Whale Trail Self-Guided Tour” January through February where visitors can hike on the bluffs overlooking the ocean and spot the migrating whales. There are many art galleries in the area which feature work from both local and nationally recognized artists, and there are at least a dozen wine-tasting and even a few beer-tasting venues in the area. Cambria seems a little more upscale and cultured than its neighbors such a Pismo and Cayucos, but everybody needs a little culture in their life, right? The Black Cat Bistro and the Fireside Lounge at the Cambria Pines Lodge are two places where you can dress up and occasionally catch a glimpse of some of the many celebrities who frequent Cambria. These two establishments feel more like the Bay Area than the central coast. For a more casual experience, the Cambria Café and Boni’s Tacos serve great food, and the 927 Beer Company Micro-Brewery and Tap Room offers the best of craft beers in the area. San Simeon is more relaxed than it’s neighbor, with the Big Sur California Café and the Sunset Grill offering the best of California seafood and burgers. There are dozens of trails to explore and beaches to play on, and the Big Sur Scenic By-way is a great one-day ride along

the coast. There are two campgrounds located in San Simeon, with camping from right along the coastline to farther up in the pines, and both San Simeon and Cambria offer several hotels, from basic to luxurious, if an overnight trip is what you’re looking for. One of the most interesting places to see in the area is Moonstone Beach, which features a one-mile boardwalk and several pools with rocks of various colors to spark your imagination. These towns are often less crowded than the other beachfront towns along the coast, so you can relax and not worry so much

about dealing with the crowds. And of course, if you have the time, you’ve got to visit Hearst Castle. There are guided tours daily, featuring different parts of the castle and the grounds, and the gardens are open for visitors who just prefer to relax in the atmosphere of a real “castle” in our little area. So the next time you’re looking for a nice ride, and a fancy dress-up or go grungy dinner, and the ocean breezes, check out San Simeon and Cambria. There’s a lot more to these towns than just Hearst Castle!

POKER RUN

Joshua Roland WRITER On November 20th of 2018 an amazing man passed away. He was a father, a grandpa, and a great grandpa. To me he was my hero, my role model and my teacher of all things pertaining to life. He was my Father. Many knew him for his business Tulare Mercantile that he and his wife Nancy ran and operated for thirty plus years where they sold a little of everything and for his Karate School American Martial Arts Academy that he operated for 15 plus years. Where he taught self-defense classes to kids and adults. Allen loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed helping the under privileged and needy cause he said he felt was the right thing to do no matter how broke it left him and was always there for people when they needed someone to talk to or have a friendly debate with about numerous topics. On January 5th, 2019 the Poker Run

took place with the help of Richard Tilley and numerous people who we are beyond grateful for because without all of you this would not have happened. Patriot Guard Escort lead this run for us with Adam Garcia leading the way carrying my dad with us. We had numerous raffle prize donations from some of the local and not so local businesses for the raffle and there were some great prizes too. The meet spot was Tulare Mercantile with two stops which were Visalia Harley-Davidson who we would like to thank for letting us use their beautiful store as a spot for this run. The second stop was in Hanford at The Lacey who we would also like to thank for allowing us to stop there and the final spot was at Browns Bar & Grill at The Hub. Where we had music playing from our excellent friend and family DJ Brian Hillman from the Sierra Shadow Casters

MC, with the help of Mark Aston and Paul Hall. We had some amazing food prepped and served by Tanya Ann Michelle Chavez and her husband Mike.

We would like to give a big shout out to Richard “Reb Brown for allowing us to use his beautiful place for our end stop and would like to really say Thank You for all that you did and for all that you provided us with You Freaking Rock. Big thanks to Tanya Justham Cliff, Christina Nunez, Jessica Luna, Harley Cole, Bekka Harp, Eric and Tina Nothstein and all the numerous other helpers we had running around helping with the set up before all the Bikes showed up you all are amazing.

Steve’s Sportmans Cafe

A Hidden Gem Kelli Langley WRITER Just off of Highway 49 in Mariposa, on woodland drive right next to the Woodland County Park, you’ll see the sign for Steve’s Sportsmans Café. From the outside you’d think it was just another small-town burger joint, like so many others in so many small towns. But once you step inside and pick up the menu, you’re bound to be surprised. The walls are adorned with mounted deer heads and various firearms, and it’s apparent, from the very beginning, that this is no place for a person who doesn’t agree with the Second Amendment. This is a hunter’s paradise, an outdoorsy, casual place to grab a booth or table and sit and talk to the locals about the best places to camp, hunt or fish. The service is fast and friendly, and they’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They feature a full breakfast menu including scrambles, omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles and French toast, so everyone in your party will be sure to find something they like. The lunch and dinner menu offers a diverse line of sandwiches such as the Philly

cheesesteak, the Rueben, and the patty melt, burgers, wraps and salads. But what really stands out are the nightly dinner specials that include prime rib, lobster tails, chicken parmesan, pot roast, and several other delectable menu items, all reasonably priced. The soups they serve are fresh and homemade, and absolutely delicious! They even have a kids’ menu to keep the little ones happy. When asked about the best thing on the menu, locals swear by the beer-battered French fries, chicken fried steak, the clam chowder, and the cheesecake for desert. The owner often comes out and mingles among the diners, cracking jokes with the locals and handing out helpful hints to a better visit to those just passing through. The portions are large enough to take some home for a latenight snack, and you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine with your dinner. If you’re looking for a great dining experience while visiting our local mountains, stop at Steve’s in Mariposa and tell them CC Biker sent you!

Tragedy Turned to a Blessing Gabi Macedo WRITER

On Christmas day, Heather Stucky had the unpleasant task to tell her sevenyear-old son Nolan and his cousin Greg, that the bikes they received a day earlier were stolen that night in Kingsburg, California. The kids, as their parents and everyone that heard about the story, were devastated. His cousin’s bike was recovered, but Nolan did not have the same luck. The kids’ uncle Matt Gordon, with Lex Henderson and Jim Tuck started talking about the incident and decided to help. Them, together with the community and lead by the off-road Facebook group called Knuckles Up, created a “GoFundMe” in order to gather donations to buy Nolan and Greg new bikes. In three weeks, they raised over $7,000 which is more than their original goal! With the money, they were able to buy Nolan a brand new KTM 50 SX and Greg a

brand new 110 Kawasaki! The day Nolan got to ride his new bike home was on Saturday, the 12th, when many people that donated and helped organizing the event met at Clawson Motorsports in order to see the smile on Nolan’s face. Lex Henderson, a sales

consultant from Clawson Motorsports and active member of the group Knuckles Up, wanted to do more. Along with

Heather talked about a “rollercoaster of emotions” as she felt his son’s pain but also the community’s love. She also

“This was such a great day! Thank you so much Clawson, Lex and everybody who made this happen! We are so very touched and grateful for all of you! Now Nolan just wants the rain to stop long enough for him to ride his bike again.” -Heather Stucky his brand-new bike, Nolan got to go home with brand new gear and helmet! “This was such a negative at a young point in their life, and we wanted to turn it into a positive,” said Henderson. Lex also told me how Greg was out of town, but as soon as he is back, Lex has presents for him as well.

mentioned how hard it was for her son to understand why someone would take their bikes, but most important, how hard it was for him to comprehend why strangers were so kind, donating him money. Either way, Nolan and his family were all smiles - and a couple of happy tears - as the community presented him with his new KTM bike.
