The Spanish-American war followed the Civil War, in 1898, and for a while America lived in peace. Of course, that didn’t last: in
1914, the “War to End All Wars”, or as it as known now, the First World War, erupted, and American forces were called upon to fight the Communist regimes of Europe and Asia. That conflict killed over 120,000 Americans, and Communism was at least held to certain European nations and was not an issue with the rest of the world.
Then came the war of the “Greatest Generation”…. 16 million Americans (over 11% of the population), mostly 17, 18 and 19 year olds who enlisted, were not drafted, served in Europe and the Pacific, to stem the communist tide of Germany, Italy and Japan. Over 400,000 of these brave young men (and a few women) gave their lives to protect the freedom of Americans. This generation literally sacrificed everything to make this country the “land of the free, home of the brave”. If you should come across any of these old-timers, please give them thanks, if not for them, we would be speaking German or Japanese. The Korean War followed 5 years after; in actuality war was never declared by the U.S., it was considered a “police action”. That “police action” killed almost 40,000 Americans who were over there doing their best to keep democracy safe.
and Afghanistan, which has cost the United States 5,000 military members. The one thing all of these wars have in common is that they were fought to keep American citizens free of tyranny and oppression. Our nation has more freedoms than any other in the world today; we can (supposedly) speak freely, arm ourselves, and live and love as we want. We have the right to criticize our government without fear of repercussions, we have the right to a fair trial and to be judged by a jury of our peers, we have the right to vote for the person we want to represent us. All of these freedoms did not come free, however; they were paid for by brave men and women who gave their lives so that we can enjoy these freedoms. Even now, with all of the turmoil in this country, we are still free to express our opinions openly, no matter how derogatory they are to our leaders.
In 1776 a group of patriots laid the groundwork for this freedom, and it has been paid for in blood ever since then. So this Independence Day, take a moment to stop and thank Vietnam led to the those who have loss of not only the served; the ones nation’s innocence who will willing to but also the loss of 60,000 young lives, many of give all for their country, and the whom were drafted into the ser- ones who made the ultimate sacvice in an unsuccessful effort to rifice. Without them there would keep South Vietnam free. And of be no parades, no cook-outs, no course we all are aware of the firework shows; only submission “War on Terror”, which includes and fear. So thank a vet for his Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Op- or her service this 4th!!! Happy eration Enduring Freedom, and Independence Day!!! other campaigns in Iraq, Kuwait,

19th Annual California Rendezvous On Saturday June 2nd, 2019 the Sun was out and beating down on all of us. The Show was to be on May 19th but the storm pushed back the Rendezvous. It was in the high 90s, but that didn’t stop people from coming out to the 2019 Rendezvous in Fresno. It was a bright sunny day with plenty of activities from the dunk tank to the loudest bike and of course the beautiful ladies. They had a variety great food to choose from and the variety of booths were amazing. If you needed a new vest they had you covered or needed knives and jewelry Bree’s Crafts 4 You was there. CC Biker was there with their booth and not to men-
tion the Underlords MC selling tickets for their Annual Summer Bash. All the money that is raised goes to Valley Children’s Hospital. The events going on were a little too spread out for me, that was a lot of walking in the sun. We still had a good time hanging out with friends and there was a lot going on. Attendance was down a little I think. Hard to tell with everything so spread out. This was the first year at the Cherry Auction Yard and as in anything you learn what to change for next year. If you were not here you totally missed out! Hope to see you next year.

THE PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS Many people have asked who the Patriot Guard Riders are and what it is that we do. We are a 100% volunteer, federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We were founded by Chuck “ Pappy “ Barshney in 2005 at the American Legion Post 136 in Mulvane, Kansas. Our inital mission was to ensure the dignity and respect at the memorial services honoring our Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders, Law Enforment Officals, Fire Department Personnel, and our Honorably Discharged Veterans. This meant that we would help shield the mourning families and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or a group of protestors. We would stand guard by blocking any unwanted protestors, media, or individuals by blocking their views either by motorcade or by having members hold the American Flags.
However as our organization grew, so did that of our mission. We started to greet troops returning home from overseas, began to partake in deployment ceremonies, and also started performing volunteer work for Veterans organizations such as Veterans Homes. We also began a program that helped veterans as well as their families. It is called Help On The Homefront (HOTH ). On occasion when we see families struggling with travel or housing arrangments, we would assist them. We also like to visit military hospitals to help encourage and honor the wounded service members of the United States Armed Forces. As stated before, our organization is a 100% volunteer non-profit. It means that we are actively encouraging people of all ages, political views and backgrounds to join us in honoring our service members. There is no monthly fee that is due and you do not need to ride nor
own a motorcylce. In fact we have some support vehicles that are used for those that are injured or who have children that would like to participate in the events we attend. Our participation is solely based on an invitation but we do encourage members to go to show their support. The Tulare and Kings County Patriot Guard Riders ALWAYS ride with respect and stand tall for all those brave men and women who stood tall for us. We show us regardless of weather, time or distance in order to show families that their loved one’s service did not go unnoticed. With that begin said, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all those men and women who currently serve or who have served for their bravery in fighting for the freedom of others both at home and abroad. We are strongly backing you, honoring you, supporting you in every mission we carry out and we are continuously praying for a safe return home.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT PISMO BEACH DUNES? Kelli Langley WRITER Ahhhh….Pismo Beach….the waves, the wind, the dunes, Harry’s Bar….. An idyllic place to spend a weekend, a week, or forever…. But lately, the Pismo Dunes are getting a reputation as a death trap. Since January, three people have been killed and several more injured while traversing the Dunes. All of those killed and many of those injured were in 4-wheel ATV’s such as the Polaris RZR or Honda Razor, basically souped-up versions of the old dune buggies that used to roam the dunes, only a lot faster and a lot more powerful. So why are people getting hurt, or worse? There are a couple of reasons.
ter. Sand Highway is no different than any on-road highway, the more traffic, the more potential for accidents.

Many don’t understand that when the wind is blowing and you come to the top of a dune, there’s only a drop on the other side, instead of a slope. They aren’t familiar with how their vehicle will respond when it hits deep sand, or when another vehicle or bike crosses directly in front of them.
The first reason is that so much of this popular recreational area has been closed in the past few years that it is causing congestion and overcrowding among ATV riders and drivers.
