My Father, My Hero: Happy Father’s Day 2020 Kelli Morgan-Langley WRITER
June 21st will mark my twelfth Father’s Day without my Dad, although it seems like only yesterday he was there lecturing me about changing my oil, giving me advice on my job, and spoiling his grandchildren like he never spoiled his children. They say only the good die young, and God took the best that December morning. He left his wife, his kids and his grandkids without a center. Father’s Day is always a bittersweet day for my family. “Papa” was more than a grandfather to his grandchildren, he often had to step into the role of father for one reason or another. He could fix anything, whether it was a Freightliner or a Hot Wheels car. Not the most talkative guy in the world, when he spoke, people listened. He taught me to ride a bicycle and to ride a horse. He taught me to ride a motorcycle and drive a car, but not until I learned how to change the oil, change a tire, adjust points and plugs, and other “basic” maintenance. He taught me life isn’t fair, to get up when something knocked me down, and to stand up for what I believe in. Hard to believe how much I miss that man.

My hero is the quiet type, No marching bands, no media hype, But through my eyes, it’s plain to see, A hero, God has sent to me. With gentle strength and quiet pride, All self-concern is set aside, To reach out to his fellow man, And be there with a helping hand. Heroes are a rarity, A blessing to humanity. With all they give and all they do, I’ll bet the thing you never knew, My hero has always been you.

A man who takes the time to love and teach a child changes the world, in the best way possible. These men need to be recognized on Father’s Day too.
And moms….if your children’s father doesn’t live with you, please make every effort to make sure they get to see each other and spend some time together. This is not the day to bring up old grievances or past hurts, just do what’s best for your This year Father’s Day is uncertain: we child. Betty, on July 14, 1953. He remained in the military, and he and his family, which would eventually include two daughters and four sons, moved all over the world, wherever the Army took him. As a young enlisted man, he went wherever his services were needed, and over the years made his
way up through the ranks. When the Viet Nam conflict broke out, Sergeant First Class Tilley went over as a member of the exclusive Special Forces Green Beret. He put his life in danger virtually every day as a platoon member on combat patrols. He helped lead his men through some of the roughest terrain on Earth, in a country where you couldn’t be sure if the person approaching you was an ally or an enemy. His calm demeanor and extreme courage made it possible for him to lead young men into dangerous situations, knowing they could depend on him to get them out. On February 7, 1967, Tilley’s bravery was at its most apparent. During a routine patrol, he and his platoon were attacked by a much larger group of Viet Cong soldiers. While the platoon leader ordered a retreat, Tilley covered them so they could reach an area where they could set up a defensive perimeter. During the battle the platoon leader was killed, and Tilley took over. He directed his men in battle and called in for air support, all the time firing his weapon and tending to those men who were wounded. As the men prepared to be picked up by helicopter, Sergeant Tilley single-handedly attacked the enemy with a vengeance, firing his weapon and throwing grenades, while his men safely reached the evacuation site. He then returned to the site of battle to ensure the wounded men were carried out and the bodies of those killed recovered before he climbed aboard the helicopter himself.

16th Annual Shovelhead Run Richard Tilley Owner/editor On Saturday, May 9th 2020 the Screaming Demons MC hosted the annual event. It was a nice day in the morning but soon it got pretty hot outside. Lots of local Motorcycle Clubs and Independents Rides came out to show Respect and join in the Run.
Rides/Runs were put on. It felt so good to gather together with Family and Friends. They had a drawing, and a raffle that everyone enjoyed. There was a bike contest and a few other contests as well.
After a few hours folks started heading out to their next place on the Run through the foothills one parking little bit down the to go with the bellies full and We started off at Ride Motors working our way down to Red street. Mother’s Day May 10th,2020 was off to a good start. It is always better to share love and kindness even when you disagree with one another. My personal opinion if our political views decide if we are friends then we must not have really been friends at all. It’s ok to think differently, but that doesn’t mean we gotta call names and be mean to another either. We are Americans and Have to Stand Together and Become a Strong Nation once We would not be where we are to- Again. more of a routine day than anything else. He was in similar situations at other times, but when he speaks of those times he does so with a calm demeanor of a story-teller, as if they were no more uncommon than a day at the beach or at the park. During the war he continued to rise in the ranks, and eventually was commissioned as an officer. Captain Tilley retired on May 31, 1973. He now lives a quiet life on his own little ranch; if you saw him on the street you would probably not be aware of the heroic acts he has committed. But to sit down and listen to him….man, that’s priceless. I cannot begin to imagine what it was actually like to have gone where he has gone, to see what he has seen, and to experience all that he has. Listening to him tell about his experiences is like having a living history book, only not so sugar-coated. If you know a veteran, don’t forget to take the time to say thank you. And if they want to tell you about their time in the service, be sure to take the time to sit down and listen. Veteran’s Day is more than just a day off of work, a time to BBQ and drink beer….it’s a time to honor all of those who have put on the uniform, picked up a weapon, and provided us, by shedding their own blood, the freedom that we have today.
