Biker Needs Help Poker Run
Richard Tilley Owner/editor
Around the beginning of June 2020, I was contacted by Kristine Berg and ask if there was a way that we could put together a Poker Run to raise Funds for the Hathon Family. Stephen Hathon is dealing with Stage 4 Cancer. Of Course, my answer was Yes, CC Biker and Motorsports Newspaper would love to be a Co-Host to help this man and family out. I knew with the weather starting to get hot it was going to be a hard one to put together and get folks to show up, but we like a challenge anyways. We worked together with quite a few folks to figure out when and where to go. I kicked around a few ideals and decide that we should start up in the foothills above Fresno. So I thought why not start at G’ma and Pappas Biker Apparel Store in Coarsegold, Ca. The owner Mitchell is a long time Biker and a big Supporter in his Community, and I figured why not go around the Lake and End up at Stonehouse Tavern. Stonehouse Tavern is a nice place up in Auberry, they have a big patio area to host all the Bikers and others who come out to support a great cause. Everything seemed to be on track for a great Event and then we get the bad news that our Governor wants to Close more Businesses in California again. No more indoor dining……… Well that sure put a damper on things. The Staff at Stonehouse was working hard to find a way we can still do the Event. We figured if we closed the Restaurant and only had outdoor dining, we would be within the guidelines laid out by the State. We would have to bring I Porta Potties since the inside of Stonehouse would be closed.
to Potter’s Porta Potties whom I already have service with. After talking to a few folks, Johnnie Davis my Rep, contacted me and had it worked out that Potter’s Porta Potties would donate the use of 2 units we just had to pay the taxes. So we thought we were all good. A few days Later I was informed that Stonehouse would not be able to Host this event without causing harm to them and their License put into Jeopardy. So now time to scrabble and find a new place. Once we had a place secured, we went We called around looking at pric- ahead and pushed for folks to ing and was like damn, this is join us still. Motorsports Newspaper would wear some of the Bling for an hour. Christifer Curtis donated 3 bracelets that we were able to get $100.00 a piece for each one. That is pretty awesome for such a small crowd to raise that much and I want to Thank All Who Attending in Person and with the Online Bidding. It was an Honor to be able to help Kristine out and raise $1121.00 to help the Hathron family with expenses for medical costs and such. This is the kind of things that the Biker Community does for others and Us at CC Biker and Motorsports Newspaper feel Honor to have helped make this happen. Thanks to Each and Every One of you that helped us make this happen….. special Thanks to the spot we ended up. Thank You guys, band was playing, and the Food was awesome God Bless America !!!!! __________________________

tember as “International Workers Day”. The date was formally adopted as a United States Federal holiday in 1894, and eventually went on to include workers in all industries and areas of business. Almost ironic, isn’t it? That the holiday that started as basically a protest would not be allowed to be celebrated 134 years later because of a virus and riots… er….protests??? Labor Day was started to honor all of those who got their butts up and went to work every day, who put in their 40+ hours per week, paid their taxes, and earned their way through life. For those who sacrificed holidays, birthdays, family events, etc. in an effort to make sure they and their families were fed, clothed and housed. Funny how a “protest” started Labor Day, in support of these workers and the efforts they put in; and today the “protests’ are staged by people who have no jobs, don’t want to work, and want everything for free. What happened to America?
Men went to work to support their families, while most women (until the 1930’s or so) stayed home, raised the family and supported the bread-winner. College was a luxury only a few could afford, and most jobs were hands-on, dirty and back-breaking. Manufacturing, ranching, mining, farming, road-building and construction were the jobs most young men had to look forward to when they finished school. These jobs did not pay much but did put food on the table for young families. There was no EBT, no Section 8, and very few hand-outs. Until the Great Depression of 1929, if you had to stand in a food line, you were embarrassed by it. If a young man could not find a job, he could always join the military, where he could make a whopping $21 per month protecting our country. Today a man who does not work or support his family can drive a new car, wear fancy clothing, and feel secure in the knowledge that the government is supporting
In 1886 a man who did not work and support his family was basically shunned and ridiculed.

Potter’s Porta Potties Richard Tilley Owner/editor As ya’ll know, we were putting together the Biker Needs help Poker Run and ran into a few snags. We were advised that we would need to bring some porta potties to accommodate the crowd we were expecting. I posted up on Facebook and had quite a few folks who made some suggestions on who to contact. One of our followers Kristen tagged a gal Candance who works for Porter’s Porta Potties. When I reached out, I was treated really nice and was told the office manager would reach out to me.
A few minutes later I got a call from Johnny Davis from Potter’s Porta Potties. He happens to be my rep. for my service with Potter’s. We talked for a bit and I let him know what we were doing and the trouble we had ran into just a week before the Event was scheduled. Johnny went and talked to the Boss Terry and was told they would supply us with 2 at no cost except the taxes. We had it all set up and then found out we had to move the event. I still want to Thank Potters Porta Potties for their Offer to Help a Biker in Need.

way up through the ranks. When the Viet Nam conflict broke out, Sergeant First Class Tilley went over as a member of the exclusive Special Forces Green Beret. He put his life in danger virtually every day as a platoon member on combat patrols. He helped lead his men through some of the roughest terrain on Earth, in a country where you couldn’t be sure if the person approaching you was an ally or an enemy. His calm demeanor and extreme courage made it possible for him to lead young men into dangerous situations, knowing they could depend on him to get them out. On February 7, 1967, Tilley’s bravery was at its most apparent. During a routine patrol, he and his platoon were attacked by a much larger group of Viet Cong soldiers. While the platoon leader ordered a retreat, Tilley covered them so they could reach an area where they could set up a defensive perimeter. During the battle the platoon leader was killed, and Tilley took over. He directed his men in battle and called in for air support, all the time firing his weapon and tending to those men who were wounded. As the men prepared to be picked up by helicopter, Sergeant Tilley single-handedly attacked the enemy with a vengeance, firing his weapon and throwing grenades, while his men safely reached the evacuation site. He then returned to the site of battle to ensure the wounded men were carried out and the bodies of those killed recovered before he climbed aboard the helicopter himself.
Tilley’s actions that day saved the lives of numerous young soldiers, and he was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Service Cross for his efforts.
