Let’s go Beyond the Helmet and get to know just one of the many racers I will be featuring in my new monthly feature “Beyond the Helmet”. Anyone can go out and buy a bike, add a fast motor, buy all the bells and whistles for a drag bike, and hit a local drag strip. But Ron Meyers from Harold California with 43 years of racing built his. Every bolt, nut, pipe, and more was made with his own hands. Ron currently races a 1400CC, 90 inch, 1200 hp Top Fuel Kawasaki he built from the ground up. As a master machinist he made the rims, frame, wheelie bars, and more. He spent over 900 hours in his shop milling the heads. He spent days hammering out his chassis. One would never know his bike is home made. His bike is truly a labor of love, time, and commitment. His bike is not only a great bike to look at, but you should see him race.
Drag racing is truly a team sport to keep racers and the bikes ready for the next pass. His wife Maggie has been by his side since 1975. He has had several crew members over the years including their twin daughters. His sponsors include CP-Carrillo Pistons, Panella Motorsports and technical support from fellow racers such as Larry Mc Bride and Ron began building his own bikes Mike Dryden and so many more. and racing at age 12 making a Over a 43-year race career the bike with a lawn mower motor. list of support would take up pagHis first race bike he put together es. had a 400cc snow mobile mo- So, what makes Ron still love the tor in 1977. CC Biker’s Peddlers Faire Richard Tilley Owner/editor
On January 16th, CC Biker and Motorsports Newspaper had a Peddlers Faire scheduled to help small local businesses and to collect clothes and such for an upcoming giveaway to those in need in Kings County, Ca. This was done at the Savage Assassins MC South Valley Chapter Clubhouse at 8348 E. lacey Blvd in Hanford, Ca. I woke up to a foggy morning in Fresno, Ca and was thinking I better leave soon for Hanford because of the fog and was hoping it would clear up soon. As I was driving further south from Fresno the fog was lifting fast. By the time I reached Selma it was clear, and I knew it was going to be a Great Day.
CC Biker and Savage Assassins MC South Valley are planning an upcoming clothing drive for the homeless in the Hanford area, and we were very blessed by When I pulled up to the club- the amount of clothing received house there was already vendors the day of the Faire. On February 7, 1967, Tilley’s bravery was at its most apparent. During a routine patrol, he and his platoon were attacked by a much larger group of Viet Cong soldiers. While the platoon leader ordered a retreat, Tilley covered them so they could reach an area where they could set up a defensive perimeter. During the battle the platoon leader was killed, and Tilley took over. He directed his men in battle and called in for air support, all the time firing his weapon and tending to those men who were wounded. As the men prepared to be picked up by helicopter, Sergeant Tilley single-handedly attacked the enemy with a vengeance, firing his weapon and throwing grenades, while his men safely reached the evacuation site. He then returned to the site of battle to ensure the wounded men were carried out and the bodies of those killed recovered before he climbed aboard the helicopter himself.

VETERANS NEED THE PERFECT ASSIGNMENT

and spend 4.5 years of my life deployed out of the 6 years of active duty, I spent years trying to find something to fill the void that was left after being honorably discharged. You know that void, the one that lingers, causing you to crave the speed, intensity, and the hustle to your day. Over the years I found little missions here and there to fill that void, volunteering my time where I could, enrolling in school, and even setting fitness goals. I had always had it in my mind on getting a motorcycle and riding, finally, in 2018 I broke down and purchased a bike and entered the realm of Motorcycles! Little did I know that owning a motorcycle would bring me to being apart of a community that would take me on such an amazing adventure. My first track day was in 2019, and that is when Vet2Track and my path crossed. Vet2Track offered me the opportunity and an experience of a lifetime working for a MotoAmerica race team.
Words cannot even begin to describe the feelings that flowed through me during my entire experience. I was able to be apart of a team, learn more about motorcycles, and most importantly I was put to work. That feeling you get when the racer comes off the track and into pit lane expecting you to actually do what is expected during that time, he is off the track is unbelievably amazing. It was magical watching great minds working together to figure out how to tune in a bike to the specific track and seeing the subject matter experts read a racers tires like some people can read tea leaves is something I will never forget.
Eric J. Blackall Racing offers a complete experience! Not only do they have a great racing program on track, but they offer the most welcoming and interesting off-track experience for fans. While other teams simply allow fans to see their pit setups, Team Blackall invites fans in to check out the race bike, build care packages for deployed servicemen and women (they are a very veteran-focused and supportive team), get autographs and team merchandise. Blackall racing even invites the fans in for one on one talks with the rider (Tony) and Team Manager (Janet). This experience leaves a fun and lasting impression on fans of all ages and backgrounds. As you can see, veterans come from all walks of life, and all need to deal with their own unique problems and struggles that they must overcome. They are a special group of individuals that need to feel accepted and valued by being mission-driven. The partnership between Blackall Racing and Vet2track is a perfect assignment!
