6th Annual Poker Run
Annie and Richard WRITERS
We woke up early for the muchawaited CC Biker and Motorsports Newspaper 6th annual Bike run, after 6 years of organizing various runs for folks Richard knows what he is doing with the planning of a run. The day started out overcast, the weather report said rain, but if you know Richard, he aeint scared of the rain. Miss Dana CC Biker showed up early after cooking all day the previous day she was tired too but we were excited and ready for the day. We arrived at Waffle House early and got set up, the weather didn’t look like it was going to hold up, but Richard is not a quitter, and the run was on. Big shout out to Roger B. and Rod S. who showed up early and didn’t seem to mind the chilly weather. We made it up to Stonehouse on schedule and set up the booths, the tri tip was cooking and smelled delicious, Dana made killer chilli beans, cornbread, potato salad, rice

Once everyone had the great food and drinks, we started the raffle which had some impressive baskets and one auction item which was an awesome gift that was saved for last and fetched a good bid. Richard sends out a huge thank you to the folks who donated to the raffle but were unable to attend the run, he truly appreciates the generous donations. The raffle prizes were a big hit, Richard loves to give the coolest raffle prizes and this year pilaf, and green salad, the beans several participants on the run was no different, several baskets were delicious and a big hit once set up a canopy for the bikes to were of interest to many but only sit under in case it kept raining. one winner, everyone in attenagain thanks Dana CC Biker. more of a routine day than anything else. He was in similar situations at other times, but when he speaks of those times he does so with a calm demeanor of a story-teller, as if they were no more uncommon than a day at the beach or at the park. During the war he continued to rise in the ranks, and eventually was commissioned as an officer. Captain Tilley retired on May 31, 1973. He now lives a quiet life on his own little ranch; if you saw him on the street you would probably not be aware of the heroic acts he has committed. But to sit down and listen to him….man, that’s priceless. I cannot begin to imagine what it was actually like to have gone where he has gone, to see what he has seen, and to experience all that he has. Listening to him tell about his experiences is like having a living history book, only not so sugar-coated. If you know a veteran, don’t forget to take the time to say thank you. And if they want to tell you about their time in the service, be sure to take the time to sit down and listen. Veteran’s Day is more than just a day off of work, a time to BBQ and drink beer….it’s a time to honor all of those who have put on the uniform, picked up a weapon, and provided us, by shedding their own blood, the freedom that we have today. Please don’t forget that on this Veteran’s Day!
