Some things in this world are just meant to be free. ‘Way back’ in 2016 when I first began writing for this fine publication (hey Richard!), I had little to no idea what I was doing here. Or where I was going with it. One thing I did know was that I liked to write. Although I eventually left the position for different reasons, I always kept an open mind as to what the future might have in store. Back in the present day, sometime in January of 2024 (wow, already?), here I go again (Whitesnake shoutout). Upon attempting to scratch my writing itch and reaching out to our editor, I was asked to write something about love. Fitting, of course, when you consider that this upcoming month of February publication also happens to be that of (Saint) Valentine’s Day. After an almost eight-year hiatus as a contributing writer for CC Biker & Motorsports, I am definitely older, probably a bit tougher?, and one hundred percent wise guy, er, wiser. So, I started digging into some potential ideas. Then I stumbled upon multiple writers who are called, “Atticus.” The O.G. incarnation was a well-known poet and orator, who lived in ancient Greek times. Some may also point to an Atticus from the Bible, although I have personally been unable to deny nor confirm any direct mentioning of him in our most holy of books. The modern-day Atticus is arguably the most famous, perhaps also best
known for his works of writing. ‘Duncan Penn’ as he also calls himself, wrote the well-circulated poem titled, “Love Her But Leave Her Wild.” And that’s what got my gears turning. Relationships! Ah, the much-celebrated and oftendreaded “R” -word (no, not “Ryan”). What would we do without them? Perhaps we would be happier. Or maybe we’d be downright miserable. Whatever your personal interpretation may be, there’s little denying that the interactions we engage in with our fellow humans have a significant impact on, and place in, our day-to-day lives. Life is like a box of chocolates, says the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company co-founder. And I agree.
In this world, as in poker, there are many circumstances which you cannot even hope to have any amount of control over (the dealt cards). There does however remain a lot to the final outcome from your free will of choice, and your voluntary actions (hold, or discard?).

That might miss the idea that while each and every last one of us exists individually and uniquely, as we are so gratefully blessed to be given this gift called life, we still actually share far more in common than we tend to believe. Like women, us men are also best left to our own devices. That is, when we are given the freedom to, well, live freely and make our own decisions. We the people, have near infinite potential for growth. As Americans, we are fortunate citizens of the most freedom-loving nation in the world.
And this got me to making a connection between the two. Aren’t people and by some extension the relationships we have with these people, and poker cards, kind of one in the same thing in many ways? Tell me you haven’t ditched a few jokers before, and I’ll immediately call your bluff. How many people have entered our lives, only to leave, seemingly as quickly as they arrived? Chapter President of Sword & Shield Riders Clovis, CA Chapter CMA
Evangelism – Fellowship – Discipleship. First strangers, then friends, then family. This natural progression of human interaction and interconnectedness are intrinsically interwoven in our human quest as we spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, travelling the highways and byways on our motorcycle adventures. I am a patched member and Chapter Officer within the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), an interdenominational and evangelistic Christian Motorcycle Organization based out of Hatfield, AR. Our primary purpose as a ministry is to reach the world for Jesus Christ, especially but not limited to, the motorcycle communities of all types, both local and abroad.
March of 2009, as a former member of the Roman’s Road Riders CMA Chapter in Fresno. Three years ago, I relocated to the Sword and Shield Riders CMA Chapter in Clovis, where I was the Road Captain for two years and am now serving as our 2024 Chapter President. It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve in our local CMA Clovis Chapter within the Northern California Area Region, where I promote our group’s evangelistic vision and help provide fellowship and discipleship direction within our active chapter’s activities. Our Sword and Shield Riders CMA Chapter is healthy and growing, conducting regular monthly chapter rides (open to all riders), assisting in local Bike Blessing events, and participating in various secular & Christian Motorcycle Runs throughout the year.

Never before has a country granted its citizens more liberty to pursue one’s goals, aspirations, and dreams, than the United States. “The pursuit of happiness,” along with liberty and life itself. Do these not summarize the “American dream?” The idea of unlimited potential growth and prosperity? Even in our temporary current state of affairs, we are arguably still better off as a whole, than ancient men and women were. Though perhaps fading to some degree today, the light of American liberty continues to shine worldwide.
What do you do when you love someone? I’m sure many things may come to mind. And I’m talking truly, legitimately, sincerely loving that person. One thing that a person always does, or should do anyhow (whether conscious of it or not), is to fully accept this person for who they are, truly at the soul/core level. Love with all your heart, always and of course! Love like there’s no tomorrow. Because sadly that may never come, at least not the way we might want it.

Certainly, we all want the best for the ones we love, we all want our close friends and family to improve and grow. By default, change in a positive direction is never a bad thing. Being comfortable in our own skin is necessary, but we shouldn’t lose sight of also taking some calculated risks with the goal of living our best
We must do our best to never try holding down the dreams of those we love. Stifle their ambitions, or otherwise keep them from becoming the best version of themselves that they, and this world, so rightfully deserve. This space we all share will be a better place for coexisting within. And maybe someday one such person will say, ‘thank you.’ Or, if you’re lucky, ‘I love you.’
