This is not goodbye,
this is “see you when I see you” Allen Casselman
for him. After graduating high school he attended Devry University and enlisted in the Navy for a time. Lucky for us he never went to war, so we got to keep him for a while.
Allen Casselman, 66, of Tulare, CA, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Tulare Rehabilitation Center where he unexpectedly succumbed to injuries from a motorcycle accident His wife, Nancy, is still recovering from the accident.
In 1982 Allen opened a retail store and it has evolved into Tulare Mercantile located in down town Tulare. Allen is also founder of the school American Martial Arts A c a d e m y, just two doors down from his retail business. His passion was teaching, Always eager to teach any one who was ready to learn and he could teach almost anything. Even today I am still learning leassons he taught me, as many of you will continue to learn the lessons has taught you.
1952-2018
Allen was born June 20, 1952 in Solano County, CA and has been a resident of Tulare County for 60+ years. A local retail business owner in Tulare since 1982, an avid student and teacher of Martial Arts, self defense and also a survival specialst. He was known as Shun Shifu Allen at his school, American Martial Arts Academy, where he and fellow instructors taught many forms of Martial Arts. He loved spending time with family, riding his motorcycle, camping, playing poker with his friends, gardening, and naps. Allen enjoyed good conversation, sharing ideas or just a fair, friendly debate. He knew how to build or fix anything. He was a father figure to many and always tried to help anyone who needed it. Preceeded in death by his father Arthur R. Casselman and sisters Jean & Jane. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his mother, Maxine (Deckard), sisters Tressa & Krissta, his children Allen Casselman Jr, Stephanie Bustamante, Eric Nothstein, Joshua Nothstein, 14 grandchildren, 3 great granchildren and many nieces, nephews, friends & students. o those I have yet to meet my name is Allen Jr., son of Allen Casselman Sr., oldest of my siblings. Before I get started I would like to take a few moments to thank all of you for ttaking time out of your life to be here today to celebrate the life of out father, her husband and friend to you all. We would like to thank our friends and family who have come to our aid emotionally, financially and physically in this time of our life. I would like to thank my wife for 26 years of loving support. And, especially thanks to Allen for being the man that he was. Some one once said “you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family”. Allen disagreed, today our
family consists of people of same blood line, people of different blood lines from all walks of life. To Allenit didn’t matter what your status, skin tone or level of wealth was. He was kind to all and treated all whom he met as family. Allen was born on June 20, 1952 in Solano County, CA. His parents, Maxine and Raymond, settled just outside of Exeter, CA and were plum farmers. Just as Raymond’s father was before him. He was the oldest of his siblings. They were raised on their father’s plum farm. Allen learned all there was to know about the farming and grafting of plums. His father created the “Ray’s Hope” plum, and his grandfather created the “Casselman” plum. But, Allen knew plums weren’t
Allen impressed on us the importance of honor and respect, to be kind and loving. He taught us to defend ourselves with nothing more than our hands and feet. He taught us that we can fix anything. But most of all he taught us to live the ife we wanted to live. Allen’s favorite things were camping, fishing, riding motorcycles, the study of Martial Arts and the study of scripture and law. Most of all he loved hanging out with his grandchildren. Allen was especially close to his grandchildren. He
loved nothing more than spending time with them, homework, karate, camping, fishing, gardening, chatting and any thing else he could come up with. Allen was happily married to Nancy and spent the past 30 years with the woman of his dreams. My father taught me patience, understanding and showed me to wisdom. He taught me to fix sewing machines and vacuum cleaners, how to fix my own cars, be my own electrician, my own plumber and my own construction guy. My dad taught me to be wise, to choose which battles to fight and which to walk away from. He taught me to visualize my goals and set a plan to achieve them. I could go on and on with what I learned from my father, but in a nut shell, he taught me to be a man. I have a simple answer when some one asks who my favorite super hero is....”my father”. We love Allen deeply and we miss him very much. He touched many lives and because of him I will lead my life the way taught me to. Work hard, be kind to others and not take things too seriously. lessness will forever inspire those of us who are lucky enough to have known him, to all whose lives he has touched, to all he has talked philosophy with and to all whom he has taught. Know that he is still with you, he is still watching over you and he is most certainly proud of you. This is not goodbye, this is “see you when I see you”.

On December 16, 2018 a comet rises in the east around 5 p.m. At midnight it will be at its highest point in the sky and by morning it will be traveling away from us. The comet is called 46P and is one of only 10 comets to pass this close to earth in all of recorded history. Enjoy your journey Dad! To my only father and hero. I thank you for always being there for me and my little family and teaching me life lessons and showing me how to be a man and picking me up in dark times and showing me what true strength and courage is. Me and my little family know you are gone but we also know you live on through us in our hearts and in our memories. We love you dad and you will be greatly missed. Till we meet again ride like hell up in heaven. Time to carry on your legacy and make you proud.

Hidden away in the foothills in Auberry is the Stonehouse Tavern, one of the friendliest, most enjoyable dive bars you’ll ever hope to enter. Walk through the front door and you’ll feel right at home, as the owners and servers make you feel like you’re a life-long customer. The food is good, the beer is cold, and there are pool tables inside and horseshoe pits out back to relax at. From the Fresno area you’ll want to hop on the 168 going up toward Shaver Lake, and after leaving the city, enjoy the winding road that leads up the hill to Auberry. Once you get into town turn onto Auberry Road, and follow the curves past the feed station, the post office and the library and the Stonehouse
Tavern is on your left.
Go in and sit at the bar, grab a table inside, or take a seat on the outdoor patio and you’ll instantly feel comfortable. When it comes to the food, there are no wrong choices. Chicken wings, hot and cold sandwiches, and burgers are all available, as well as fries, potato salad and onions rings….all made to order and oh-so-good! Their sweet potato fries and jalapeno poppers are made perfectly and great for sharing. In the winter months look for the clam chowder, a great way to warm up after the chilly ride up the hill!
time there. There’s karaoke most Friday nights and a band playing on most Saturdays. Weekends are always busy, and it’s a great place to meet up with old friends or make new ones. Locals mix with visitors, and for the most part it’s a peaceful, but rowdy, place to hang out.
Whether you’re going up to the lake or just looking for a fun night out, the Stonehouse Tavern is a great little place to stop and grab a good meal and cold drink. Stop in and see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!
There are a wide variety of beers and wines available, as well as a full bar. The bartenders and servers go out of their way to make you feel as if you’re a regular customer, even if it’s your first

Coarsegold Town Hall meeting
Against Bullying Kimi Simon WRITER
O
n November 30th 2018 “The Group Hosted a Town Hall Meeting in Coarsegold Ca at the Community Center for the bulling in the mountain area, particularly YUSD. “The Group also invited Teresa Gross and Toni Shaver Southwood who have their own bullying organization called M.M.A.S.H which stands for Mariposa Mother’s Against School Hazing. “The Group also invited Principal Johnson of Coarsegold Elementary, Principal Rose of Rivergold Elementary, The superintendent, Law enforcement, and of course anyone of the community. This is the YUSD Core Beliefs: The Yosemite Unified School District believes: That all Students have the ability to learn and succeed. That learning is a shared responsibility between students, parents, teachers, school, and community. In pursuit of excellence. In high standards
of ethical and professional behavior including trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. To prepare students for the academic, social, and professional challenges that await them in life. To provide high quality instruction and the resources necessary to achieve individual potential. To engage all students in a student-centered curriculum that is based on rigor, relevance, and relationships. To provide a safe, orderly, and caring learning environment. The parents were trying to figure out how to get more communication between the parents and the principals. There were many parents that felt these bullies were getting to many chances. “The Group also brought up some ideas for both principals like starting a anti bullying program once a month at the schools for the children to attend, another
was having anonymous bully boxes in the classrooms and different places on campus to drop notes in for the principals. Which would be a great idea for both that way these kids who are reporting won’t be bullied or hurt for reporting bullying. After reading the YUSD Core beliefs and Mission Statement none of them line up with what’s going on in these school. These children aren’t being protected. There also isn’t ever a class they go in that is quite for them to be able to focus and do their work. Many parents from Coarsegold Elementary said in the meeting said after their children came home complaining about their class and how loud and crazy the classrooms were that they took it upon themselves to go sit in on a class the parents said that it was so disruptive with kids screaming and talk and cussing teachers they couldn’t believe they were allowed to do these
things in class. From Aug.-Nov. 2018 there were 132 reports made just online at Coarsegold Elementary. The kids are scared everyday when they go to school. There are children that text their parents just begging to be picked up from school and when the parent ask why their children say they hate their school and they are tired of being bullied or their tired of watching other children be bullied. The children of these school are just tired of seeing such hatred and nothing being done about it. Principal Johnson said at the meeting that it would take up to 3 years before children would be completely safe at his school. I think if parents saw that he was doing something or anything at all it would make them feel like he’s at least trying.

Sunday, December 23rd brought the annual Christmas party held by Our Heroes’ Dreams, it benefited Veterans from around the Valley that have fallen on hard times. The Seventh Day Adventist church in Lemoore was transformed into a beautiful holiday setting complete with live music, great food and lots of good folks. They had Gift bags filled with toys and goodies were handed out along with an assortment of perishables available for anyone in need after they served us a good meal. Justin Bond CEO/Founder of Our Heroes’ Drams was the man in charge and as a Veteran himself he knows the need for community support. With the help of Jeff Anderson the event was a success and both men should be commended for all their hard work. This is truly what Christmas is all about.

Christmas Toy
Giveaway
Kimi Simon WRITER
A
Christmas Toy Giveaway was put on by G’ma and Pappas with the Sierra Shadow Casters MC helping on Saturday, December 15th, 2018. It was located at G’ma and Pappas. There was also a lot of independent rider’s there also. All together they were able to get 200 bikes and 200 toys for the children of the mountain community. I hope they know what they did for our community is appreciated and if not, I sure hope someone tells them. They set out to help these kids and make them happy and was done for sure. They had cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate, and coffee. Which I know the parents just loved. There was a fire to stand by and a photo booth for pictures with Santa when he would arrive. There was Christmas music and lots of happy children. There was a lot of the community gathered together for a good time, I believe that was accomplished well. As everyone was mingling and kids were playing it was announced that Santa would arrive soon! The children got excited and all gathered to trying and watch Santa arrive on His own motorcycle. As their waiting on the sideline for Santa to come down the mountain on his motorcycle very anxiously eating cookies and drinking their hot chocolate, they hear another announcement that Santa is just around the corner. Finally, the kids can hear the motorcycles, Then Santa pulled in with toys at his side on his red motorcycle. All the kids ran up
to Santa and was very excited because that meant toy time. All the kids gathered and lined up to see Santa, receive their toy or bike and get a picture with him. It was great to see all those happy faces having fun, playing with their toy or riding their new bike. Even the little ones falling off their bikes and scraping elbows never was there one tear dropped. But wait adults get Christmas presents to right? Yes, they do so they even did a raffle for the adults for a New Chainsaw! A very happy man Lonney Tedford walked away with that gift. It felt like Christmas on that Saturday morning of the 15th of December. With G’ma and Pappas store decorated and the snack and hot beverages next to a fire with Christmas music. All the Joy and peace that flowed around the atmosphere that day was beautiful. Watching these kids and parents and groups come together to do whatever needed to be done to make this happen the rite way for the children of our community. I was honored just to be there. As things began to slow down they had also planned for one of our own mountain biker Veterans to walk across the street to the Coarsegold Veteran’s Memorial to place a wreath and we all had a moment of silence together that moment was beautiful. It was a beautiful end of what was a day of Hope, Faith, Love, Kindness, Fun, laughing, and of course motorcycles. Thanks for what ya’ll do Mitch and Lori of G’ma and Pappas
