Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Tyrice Knight I’m from Lakeland Florida I transferred to UTEP from Indy. I play football for the Miners and my position is linebacker. Who is your favorite sports hero? My favorite sports hero is Ray Lewis, I say that because he’s from the same neighborhood as me and he also grew up in the same circumstances but that didn’t stop him. He still manages to be great.

What inspired you to want to play football? I can say watching my dad play flag football in my neighborhood when I was younger inspired me, I have been playing football since I was able to walk so, I can say it was in my blood. Let’s talk about your apparel line and the motivation behind it. My apparel is really awesome. I got hoodies, shirts, hats, and phone cases. The colors I got available for them are black, red, white, pink, and gray. What

motivated me to make my apparel was for people who wanted to support me had something to show off. How does being an athlete make you a better person? I can say being an athlete makes me a better person because it teaches me how to be more open to things and how to approach them. What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had so far in your life? I can say the most memorable moment in my life was when I first stepped foot on UTEP as a d1 athlete. Tell us what’s the next big thing for you? I can’t really say how I think my 2024 is going to go because a bunch of things have to fall into play. What aspects of football do you get most excited about? C.J. WATSON

8 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is C.J. Watson I played in the NBA for 10 years and 2 years overseas in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. I am now retired, and I am a children’s author of 4 books, entrepreneur, angel investor, and co-founder of the Quiet Storm Foundation. Let’s talk a little about your journey and how you got to where you are today. It was different, I didn’t get drafted out of college, so I took a different route. I had to go overseas and work on things people said I wasn’t good at, or I needed to improve on. So, I did that then came back to the States and got an opportunity and made the most of it. It made me more determined, more resilient, and I played with a chip on my shoulder to prove that I belonged. Now that I’m retired, I wanted to continue to tell my story and inspire kids and that’s how I became or had the idea of becoming a children’s author. Who is your favorite sports icon? I have a few Jordan and Ali, but I mostly resonate with Kobe. He was the Jordan of my era. When I was in high school, he came to talk to us right after he won a championship and I still remember to this day how personable he was and encouraging and just honest when he didn’t have to be. Tell us more about your new book and the motivation behind the book. The new book is called CJ and His Magic Socks. When I was 16, I was fortunate to travel to Italy for basketball with my mom. So, the new book is about getting out and seeing the world and all it has to offer. A lot of people from my neighborhood have never been out of Las Vegas. The lesson in this book is to get out of your comfort zone and be uncomfortable learning new things and you never know what you can or how it can change you. Also, CJ wears socks that he thinks are magical and help him play better, but he later understands it’s not his socks, it is his hard work and dedication that makes him so good.

How was your experience playing for the Chicago Bulls? It was the best. The city was great, the fans were great, the food was great, and we had the best record in the NBA for two years. It’s just unfortunate we didn’t get a chance to win a championship. Let’s discuss “The Quiet Storm Foundation” and how it got started. It started in 2009 with the idea of my parents wanting to help our neighborhood and give inner-city kids like myself a resource to be successful. So, when I started playing in the NBA, we started it and have been going strong for 14 years. We have helped thousands of kids with access to free basketball camps and out-of-school programs to help keep them out of trouble and just give them joy and a belief that they can be successful no matter the situation or area they may grow up in. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Hopefully alive lol. But continuing to be a great husband and father. Turning my books into a cartoon or movies and just continuing to be successful and inspiring the next generation to be even better than me. Tell us one fun fact about yourself. I love to read inspirational books and quotes. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Not really at the moment, just focused on the foundation’s upcoming basketball camp in July, and trying to continue to push the new book and get it infant of more eyes. Where can the readers follow you? You can follow me at @quietstorm_32 on IG and Twitter and get the books at www.cjpens.com.

TAYLOR

10 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. I’m Taylor, aka “littletfitness”, and I am a proud Toronto creator and personal trainer. I started my career doing personal training in 2017 and had my social media platforms to post my challenges and fitness journey only for fun. Fast forward to 2023 where I now have over 1.5 million followers across all platforms and am able to create content as part of my career plus I still have the flexibility to train my clients and host workshops. Over the past six years, I’ve created a supportive community from all around the world that allows me to be my best self while at the same time motivating and inspiring others. How did you get into fitness? My first introduction to fitness was in university when I was on my varsity cheerleading team. It was my first-time being part of a team sport, and I wanted to make sure I was the best teammate possible. As a result, I started going to the gym to get stronger and increase my endurance. I fell in love with the process instantly and wanted to learn more about fitness. I interned with the school’s strength and conditioning program where I was able to experience a variety of team sports such as cheerleading, football, basketball, lacrosse, and baseball. Through my own workouts and interning, I realized that the fitness world was for me and I wanted it to always be part of my life. How would you define your purpose? My main purpose with my platform is to demonstrate that no matter your size, ethnicity, age, or gender, your body is capable of anything! One of my favorite likes about my platform is my community and how engaged it is in my challenges - which is why I love posting and creating so much. I love to post different challenge levels in order for everyone to have an opportunity to push themselves towards achieving something new. Another purpose of my platform is to be as transparent as possible. Within my “stories”, I am always showing the behind-the-scenes of my videos and how they aren’t one-take wonders and that these challenges and moments all take time and effort to achieve. I enjoy showing the reality of social media and also being relatable. It’s okay to fail; it’s part of the process and journey. Just don’t stop trying!

Let’s talk about “Reign Body Fuel” and what it does for the body. Reign Body Fuel is an energy drink that I consume about 3-4 times a week! Depending on which ones I get, they range from 180-300mg of caffeine which is standard within the “pre-workout” realm. I enjoy having Reign energy before my workouts, especially for legs and any flip training - it just provides that extra energy boost I need to be in that mind space to get the work done. I also love sharing Reign with my friends. I bring it to training, before a Raptors’ game, as well as to the leisure activities we do as a friend group. What are some goals you would like to accomplish in the next three years? I am working towards two major goals for 2023. I’ll be competing in both calisthenics and bodybuilding this year, meaning two preps at once which will be challenging. However, the double challenge is something I’ve always wanted to do. In terms of my other goals within the next three years, I want to continue to grow on my social media platforms, in particular YouTube. I just recently got into creating long-form content and slowly but surely I am starting to understand and enjoy the process. Another goal I have within the next three years is to compete in powerlifting. I want to challenge myself and show that I am a wellrounded athlete who can compete and perform well in whatever I choose to focus on. What has been the biggest accomplishment you’ve received in your career? The biggest accomplishment I’ve received would be hitting 1 million followers on Instagram. That was absolutely insane to me, and still is. I am just so grateful for the support and community and I wouldn’t be where I am without them. I love creating, so being able to share my love for fitness with so many people are a dream come true. I am thankful beyond words and having such a large following keeps me accountable and motivated to keep being better. Can you give us three tips on being fit? My biggest and best tip for being fit is to take it slow. You never want to experience “hero to zero”, and by that, I mean doing everything all at once too fast. Some tips that go along with this would be:

1) Choose realistic gym goals in terms of the frequency and length of your workouts. Start small and aim for 2-3 days a week for 30-60 minutes each rather than setting a goal of every day for 1-1.5 hours. 2) Choose specific health and fitness goals to achieve. Focus on 1-2 areas of fitness such as weight training and sleep versus choosing to achieve weight training, cardio, mobility, nutrition, and sleep all at once. 3) Enjoy the process! Your fitness journey is for you - make it as fun as you can. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? One of my main projects for next year is to come out with some “littletfitness” white socks. They have been a part of my brand since I started Instagram and I truly love white socks so it’s a fun project. Another project would be to continue to build-out my app. I love creating for my app because I am able to reach more people through that specific platform and to help individuals achieve their goals to do handstands, pull-ups, pistol squats, whatever. Lastly, I’m always working on organizing workshops! I love hosting in-person events and I am making it a priority in 2024 to host more workshops within North America. Where can the readers follow you? You can follow me on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram @littletfitness! It’s the same username across all platforms which makes it easier to find me! You can also find me on my app which is at littletapp.com!

MIRANDA TIBBLING

12 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Miranda Tibbling. I’m 19 years old. And I am a professional parkour athlete from Sweden (Stockholm) I live with my mom, my little sister, and our cat Nala in a small town outside Stockholm. I train 8-9 times a week, mixing parkour with gym workouts. I’m in my last year in school and after school my main focus is going to be training and traveling. What motivated you to be a professional freerunner? The moment I got to learn what parkour was I fell in love with the sport. When I train parkour, I feel happy. In the beginning it was all about training with my friends and having a good time. But as the years went by, I started to take it more and more seriously. My mom and brother are on a higher level and won championships and have a world title, and my brother train football. So, sports have always been around me growing up and my mom and brother inspired me for sure to fully commit to parkour and try to make it pro. My mom made me believe that if you put in the work and don’t give up during the process, no matter how hard it gets just keep pushing and believing in yourself all the way! And then you can make it. Who is your sports icon? That’s a hard question, I don’t know. Pasha is a legend but also Sydney Olson. I have so many role models and pro freerunners I look up to. But there are also some older athletes that have done so much for the sport. And thanks to them the sport has grown. What are some of the goals you want to accomplish? I want to continue to keep my title as speed queen/ Defending my world title. But also, to improve my flips. I want to be more competitive in freestyle. But because of many injuries, it’s been hard to keep my flips consistent and progress. So hopefully you will see more power moves from me in the future!

Besides that, get more sponsors and people that can help me live of parkour! And I also have some goals/ dreams I keep to myself. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? After school or maybe in 2024 I want to move to Spain, so I guess there. I miss the sun so anywhere we’re the sun is and it’s warm! I would really like to see my brother that lives in the States. What has been one of the biggest accomplishments you’ve received in your career? Ending 2022 by winning the world championships was one of the best feelings in the world for sure. After a season full of injuries, I still managed to push true and ended strong! But also making it into Red Bull AOM two times!? Because I have been dreaming of competing there since I was 11 years old. I remember in 2021 the first time I made it into the comp, when I heard the news that I made it in, I started crying and then I called my mom. During the comp, I was super nervous because it was the first big competition, I’d ever been to so my emotions took over quite a lot. But I learned a lot about myself and how competitions work that year. That prepared me for 2022, when I came back to AOM and took 3rd place! Tell us more about the Red Bull AOM. Red Bull AOM is one of the best competitions I’ve been to. I love this competition. Making it in too Red Bull was a dream come true, I feel so blessed I got the opportunity to be a part of this competition. They take care of you so much and you feel important and respected. Last time

it was on an island, and we got to film a bunch of videos on the roofs and just training all day long. It was so sick. I will never forget that competition. The best competition I’ve been to for sure! What is one fun fact about yourself ? Hmmm, I love cooking and baking. And I’m actually not as shy as I can seem when people meet me haha. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Right now, my main focus is to get more sponsors and a bigger team that help me. But I’m also preparing for the next FIG world cup in France. And for all the other competitions next year. But I will for sure do some bigger YouTube videos or projects this year. But that’s a secret. Where can the readers follow you? You can find me on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube: My name on all platforms is MirandaTibbling.

HANA BURTON

14 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Hana Burton and I am a new racing driver in Japan. I create content around car modification and high-performance driving in hopes to inspire other people to get behind the wheel. What motivated you to be a race driver? When I was 12, my parents took me to a NASA race in Arizona. I was a thrill-seeking child so I really wanted to get into it but my parents thought it was too expensive and dangerous for me. After becoming an adult, I worked for an automotive tuning company called HKS that had a demo car that wasn’t being used, a supercharged Scion FRS aka Toyota GT86. At the time, I thought it was the coolest car in the world. Despite having developed some fears about driving on public roads, I made it my mission to learn to drive a manual and eventually purchased the car. In 2019, someone let me know there was a one-make track day called “86 Cup”, I signed up on a whim despite just having learned manual and seriously had the best time of my life, it was so liberating. Being on the track allows you to safely reach the limit of the car, so I was able to build a lot of confidence through track driving. Tell us about “Circuit Orange” and the motivation behind it. Circuit Orange is a community I created to share the enjoyment of performance driving with people who are interested in or are already driving on the racetrack. Overcoming my anxiety about driving was lifechanging for me, so I wanted to encourage others to find joy in driving as well. I’m going to be releasing a weekly car-related comic series on my Instagram page this year! How was your experience driving in the “Toyota Gazoo Racing” Yaris Cup? It was a lot of work for me to meet the requirements to participate in the race. Because it was my first official race ever, I had to get my competition

license in Japan which was composed of a written and driving test. From there, I flew to a race in Hokkaido to meet some people at TRD "Toyota Racing Development" who introduced me to the tire sponsor of the series Goodyear. Goodyear gave me a seat for the last race of the season. I had to learn a few things in a short amount of time before the competition: a new track, driving right-hand (having to shift with my left hand), and how to drive a front-wheel drive car fast. It was tough, but on race day I felt ready. I was hit by a driver in the third corner of the first lap and just thought “Oh so this is racing…” I qualified 23 out of 46 cars and was awarded the Rookie of the Year award from Toyota Gazoo Racing! What are some goals you want to accomplish? I want to continue to develop my driving skills so I can advance my racing career. I’m trying to get as much seat time as possible whether on the simulator or official races! I will be racing in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris Cup for the full season and an open cockpit series called Kyojo Cup in Japan. There’s a possibility that I will be doing some endurance racing this year as well. I’ve been building my stamina and strength training so I can improve my driving. Besides my racing career, I want to continue to create more content to get people excited about building and driving their cars!

What has been the most memorable moment in your career? My team for Kyojo Cup gave me the chance to test out an FIA F4 car at Fuji Speedway in the rain. I had 30 minutes of driving the rawest car that I had ever sat in. I never thought that I would be able to have an opportunity to drive a formula car, especially as a new racing driver. I couldn’t stop smiling, when I came back to the pits I was in tears because of how happy I was, I think my team was surprised. If you could race anywhere in the world, where would it be? I’ve recently made it a goal to one day drive the 24 hours of Daytona after missing an opportunity to experience it this year. As someone who became

a driver as an adult instead of the typical “go-karting at 5 years old” narrative, I know that there is a lot of racing that may be close to impossible for me to partake in. But if everything goes well, I expect to continue to work hard for the next 30 years and get there. What is one fun fact about yourself ? I have a 6-year-old German Shepherd named Romeo that I cannot live without, he’s one of the reasons I haven’t moved to Japan full-time yet. He’s actually a main character in the upcoming Circuit Orange comics. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Besides prepping for my race season, I’m currently working with automotive engineers and a manufacturing facility in Japan to create a performance part for track cars. I can’t disclose details yet! Where can the readers follow you? Follow my Instagram @hanubuu_ to stay updated with my racing career! The comics will be on Instagram under @CircuitOrange and I also post on TikTok and YouTube under @CircuitOrange.

BIANCA

BUSTAMANTE Tell Everyone who you are and what you do. Hey everyone, I’m Bianca. I’m an 18-year-old from the Philippines. I previously raced with PREMA Racing for the maiden season of F1 Academy and I will be racing with the McLaren Driver Development and ART Grand Prix in next year’s F1 Academy season. What motivated you to be a race car driver? So, to be honest, from way back when my dad first introduced me to racing when I was about a year old and he got me my first racesuit. I just really loved the sport and from then on I decided to pursue it. I competed in my first ever race at a young age and then you know I tried competing in both international and local karting at age 6 and that really just pushed me forward. I think the pivot point was actually winning the Macau Kart Grand Prix, where I really was like, I want to pursue this. This is something I want to do for a living when I grow up and that’s what I’m trying to do now. How would you define your purpose? I think my purpose right now is to be always the best version of myself, in pursuit of the perfect lap and

16 PROMOTING NETWORK

always just trying to build on myself consistently, and continuously. I also think that this sport, it’s not very woman dominated. And I strive to be a pioneer in my sport, and I want to hopefully pave a way for young people, in racing. So, I think that’s my purpose. How did it feel to be signed with PREMA? It was a great honor to be part the PREMA Power Team. They’re known for building future champions and a lot of drivers that have reached Formula One, which is the pinnacle of motorsport. So to be here in this environment with PREMA is an absolute opportunity and an honor of mine. They have been amazing, and they've helped me hold my talent, helping me grow in fighting bits and pieces of myself that help me become a better driver. What can we expect from you for 2023? It’s another year for us to keep on progressing and to keep on improving and that’s really what we’ve been trying to do. We started our season quite early and back in January and after F4 UAE we made lots of good progress. We made a

breakthrough. I scored my first-ever point. I got a 39 even on a grid of 40 where it’s mostly men. To be there fighting for it is just an amazing feeling. So I think that’s a great way to kickstart our year and now that the maiden season has concluded and I recently signed in the McLaren Development programme, there are lots of training and preparation to do. This year has been mega for us, but then again, as a young athlete in the sport, there’s still so much more to learn. There’s a big learning curve ahead of us and that’s really great.

it’s been amazing. I’ve never been in such a competitive environment where I’m constantly learning, constantly growing and you know that feeling actually just gives me this confidence boost with a team that approaches so much, anything is possible. If you could race anywhere in the world, where would you race? One day I hope that I can have a home race and hopefully, that happens in the future. But for now, I really do hope to race in Monza. It’s one of my favorite tracks in the world. I obviously love the speed and going fast and just everything about it.

What are some of the goals you want to accomplish? Well, you know, my goal is to always be 1% better every day and that’s something I am just trying to do as well as to continually work on myself, on my craft, and how to be the best I can be. However, my big goals are obviously to win and to learn. The true value of winning is learning for me, I take every opportunity to learn. From every aspect. Tell us what was one of the most memorable moments you’ve had so far in your career. Definitely one of the most memorable moments is signing with PREMA for the 2023 F1 Academy season. I definitely would say that and racing, with them this year. Just witnessing with my own eyes how high-performance the team works or functions in this environment where I’m constantly being pushed to my limit every time and where I can go and just blossom as a driver. Honestly,

If you could choose one other place, what place would you choose? I would definitely say I want to go back to Singapore. I think Singapore is an amazing track because it has so many different characteristics to it. Just driving around the city and competing in a night race as well, and going so fast on the street circuit is just controlling the uncontrollable, really. And it’s one of the most exhilarating rushes of adrenaline I’ve ever felt in my life. So, I definitely would want to go back to Singapore. What’s one fun fact about yourself ? A fun fact about me is that I love floor plans and I taught myself how to draw floor plans at the age of 9 so that’s something I also want to pursue in the future. If it wasn’t race driving, I think I’d be an architect. Out of all of your achievements, what is one that stands out to you? It’s really funny because, I feel like at such a young age I’d achieved quite a few things in my life. You know, being Asian Karting Champion and Philippine driver of the year, but when I think about it really is like none of those are ever enough when you’re constantly just trying to push yourself. Like wins after wins. And at some point, you just want to keep striving for more and achieving greater

things in life. So, for me, I feel like I haven’t really accomplished my best achievement yet. But if I could name one, It would be the Asian Karting Champion for two years in a row. Are you working on any other events or upcoming projects? Yeah, so recently you know I drove in F1 Academy and that’s an endeavor that we’re so grateful to have pursued and will continue to, and not only am I living my dream, but I’m able to do it and it’s the best thing in the world. So, that’s definitely going to be a great kickstart to my career. I want to thank everyone for all the hard work that they put in, especially, the people supporting me, like Lance East Exotics, Laurence Escalante, I have been working with them and it’s been a true honor. They made all of this possible, to be honest. So, I want to thank them so much. What is one message you would like to give your fans? Thank you so much. Honestly, it takes a village to build the champion and to have the support of a lot of people in and out of racing. That’s something I’m very grateful for and of course, the outlets like you guys thank you guys so much. You know, the media. Thanks to everyone who helped me achieve my dreams. Thank you for sharing my story. I do hope everyone continues supporting me, my journey, and you live it with me. Where can the readers follow you? So, you guys can follow along on my journey and be part of it. You can follow me on TikTok and Instagram @racerbia and check out my YouTube Channel!

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. Hey guys. I’m Amber Balcaen. I’m a race car driver from Winnipeg, MB, Canada, now living in North Carolina where I moved here to pursue my dreams of becoming a NASCAR driver. I now race in NASCAR’s ARCA Menards series for Venture East Motorsports and the number 15 Icon Direct Car, and I’ve been racing for a long time. This is my 21st year of racing. I absolutely love it. And yeah, excited to share more. About myself with you all. What motivated you to be a race car driver? I grew up in a racing family. My mom’s dad raced and also my mom and dad met at the race track. I’ve been going to the track since I’ve been in my mom’s belly, so it’s kind of all I’ve known. But it’s also all I’ve loved, like I fell in love with racing as soon as I knew what it was. And I wanted to get into go-karts immediately, and once I caught the bug, I haven’t been able to get rid of it since I really feel like racing is my addiction and I just can’t get enough of it. How would you define your Purpose? My purpose is definitely to inspire and encourage others to go after their dreams, to break barriers, to not make any excuses for themselves, and to just really believe in their potential. I’m not someone who comes from money and I’m in a very wealthy sport. You know I’m a female in a male-dominated

AMBER BALCAEN sport and I’m Canadian in a American sport. There’s a lot of adversity that I’ve had to overcome to get to where I am today and I just want to be able to show people that it doesn’t matter where you come from, It’s who you are. If you’re willing to put in the work and be disciplined with your actions, and you know you are good to people and have that resilience in you. Just continue to work hard, never give up and anything’s possible.

18 PROMOTING NETWORK

What has been the biggest accomplishment you’ve received in your career? I think the one I’m most known for is being the first Canadian female to win a NASCAR sanction race, but for me personally, my greatest accomplishment has just been being able to make it to this level of racing on my own and being able to raise on my own sponsorship and really create a brand and a business for myself that is at this level, you know, once you’re into the national levels of NASCAR, it’s very competitive, very difficult, and very hard to get the sponsorship to run at these levels. So truthfully, I’m just most proud of being able to make it at this level.

sponsorship, and sponsors are really hard to come by and opportunities in the sport are really hard to come by. So, you really have to make the most of all the opportunities that are presented to you. You have to create your own opportunities and you really have to learn how to build and maintain and strengthen the different partners you’re associated with sponsors and teams and everything else that goes into the industry.

How is your experience so far being in NASCAR? Well, it’s taken a lot of years, that’s for sure. Winning a race always helps, of course, and doing well at the track. We just raced Daytona and we were up to 3rd place at one point from starting in 35th place. We got up to third, and ultimately finished at 6th, so having good runs like that definitely helps and I think it helps women in Motorsports. It helps you know, hopefully, attract more sponsors. But overall, it’s a very difficult business to be in. What’s the hardest part of being a race car driver? For me, it’s by far the funding aspect of it. Just like I said, you need a lot of money behind you. You need a lot of

some people know. Some people don’t know. I was on a reality TV show called Racing Wives where I was not the wife of a driver but was one of the drivers, so I raced for one of the wives husbands. I got a lot of messages about how I can get an autograph hero card And I was like, well, why not just make them available on my website? So, there only a dollar. Basically, I just charge enough to be able to cover the shipping costs and the cost of the actual hero card. I don’t really make any money on it, just kind of want to break even with it if I can. I want to at least be able to offer that to my fans. What is one fun fact about yourself ? One fun fact. Well, I love cooking, I love food, I love going out to eat at restaurants, I love making new recipes and just trying different things in the kitchen. I don’t know how fun that is, but I guess another fun fact

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Cez Champagne, Owner of NuMentality Skillz Academy in which I train student-athletes basketball & volleyball skills to prepare them for competition. I also train teams to help them develop chemistry and compete to their highest potential. I am also co-owner of STS Magazines in which I am the Editor and Graphic Designer for each issue that is published. Let’s talk a little about your journey and how you got to where you are today. As an athlete, I’ve always wanted to play professional basketball. That was a goal I set for myself when I was in the eighth grade. I received a full scholarship to East Tennessee State however I was unhappy being away from my family. During that year, I sustained a season-ending injury (torn ACL) in which I had no choice but to watch from the sidelines. I learned a lot about perseverance and mental toughness during rehabilitation. My junior year, I sustained another season ending injury (torn ACL) in which I was mentally challenged. I wanted to quit but my passion was still there. It was during that time that I realized, coaching is what I wanted to do. Fast forward….I spent 12 years coaching high school girls basketball and 3 years coaching the boy’s varsity basketball team. The biggest challenge was getting male coaches to respect me as a female coaching a boy’s team. My first year was challenging as the team finished 4-13. I questioned myself thinking I should’ve just stayed on the girls side but I soon realized that it was

all a test to see if I would back down. The following year, I returned with the same team and OUR mindset was totally different. We finished the season 15-7, 12-0. The following year, we had to win 6 games in a row to become back-to-back region champs. And we did but it wasn’t easy. How did it feel to be the only black female coaching an all-boys team in South Carolina in 2015? During that time, I placed a lot of pressure on myself. As the time went along, I felt like women have the same ability to lead a group of young men the same way male coaches can. It was at that moment, women started to take advantage of their power. Becky Hammon was doing her thing during that time with the San Antonio Spurs and now the trend continues. Tell us what to expect from the team for this year? I have since stepped away from coaching and focused on my brands, NuMentality Skillz Academy and STS Sports & Media Magazine. Those platforms allow me to stay connected with student-athletes and provides them an opportunity to continue their playing career beyond high school and college. We provide them with a publication that helps them promote their talents to college scouts from all levels. What are some goals you want to accomplish? I consider 2023 the Year of Unlimited Opportunities. There are some projects that I am currently working on however I do not want to jump the gun and make an announcement prematurely. Just stay tuned… What has been one of the most memorable moments you’ve had in your career? I’ve had several but I will say, having the opportunity to coach a group of boys that I taught was the first. It’s easy to be a teacher in the classroom but to have that extra influence to make a difference in the sports world is a great feeling. I will say another experience would be to make a difference in ALL my players and seeing them graduate is the ultimate reward any coach would treasure. Lastly, I also coached volleyball at the same school I coached boys’ basketball (Baptist Hill HS) and to win the first region title in school history (2018) was quite memorable. When I walk into the gym; I see

5 banners that represent the leadership skills I gave my players but more so…it represents the hard work those athletes put into those programs. Tell us who is a sports icon that has influenced you the most? I grew up watching Michael Jordan. I knew that I had a gift that I just needed to tap into because as I watched the Chicago Bulls play, I wasn’t watching for the nicest move or dunk from Jordan or Pippen. I used to watch the game to see how Craig Hodges got in position to score, how Jordan ran an isolated play to create a way to score, or how dominant Dennis Rodman was on the boards. Watching Jordan play with a passion and wanting to win was what inspired me to play hard in every game growing up. Congrats on winning back-toback region titles for the team in 2017 & 2018, tell us the hurdles and challenges you faced getting the team there. Coaching boys’ basketball had its challenges especially when the entire team played football. The most challenging thing was patiently waiting for football season to end (when the team reaches the 4th and 5th rounds of the playoffs) and having 1-2 days to prepare for the first game of the regular season. In my second year of coaching boys, I had two days to get ready for the first game and my players lost their game on a Friday night. After the game, they all came to me and asked, “What time is practice tomorrow?” I was shocked…so I had to open the gym at 2 pm the next day and strategize how we were going to compete on Monday. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Yes, there are some projects that I am currently working on and will be announced in the Spring. Where can the readers follow you? ARIANNA EMANUEL WRIGHT 22 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. Hey y’all! My name is Arianna Emanuel-Wright, but I go by Ari. I am a 25-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida DUVVALLL #904. You know I had to put that in there, especially cause the Jacksonville, Jaguars are killing it right now. At this moment of my life, I am an Athlete, a Career Consultant, a Jr. NBA Youth Skills Coach, and a Business Owner. I currently reside in Richmond, Virginia. Let’s talk a little about your journey and how you got to where you are today. Growing up, I played many sports - baseball, gymnastics, volleyball, track, flag football, even competitive cheerleading. Basketball was the sport that stuck. In 8th grade, I knew that I could be really good - so I started AAU and in 9th grade I was a starter for the Varsity Girls’ basketball team. I attended Paxon School for Advanced Studies for high school, and I am extremely grateful that my parents and grandparents instilled the importance of education at an early age because I wouldn’t have made it to where I am today without that insight. In high school, I took challenging AP and IB courses - something of which prepared me well for college curriculum. I continued basketball in college at 2 places - a junior college named Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida and the University of North Florida in my hometown. Such a blessing to be able to play the game, get my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology paid for, and develop my leadership abilities. However, as a student-athlete, my time was limited due to the intense practice/game schedule and full academic course load. I don’t think I truly knew what I was capable of until I attended graduate school at Florida State University. There, I obtained my Master’s degree in Career Counseling and my gosh, it was the hardest 2 years of my life. It was worth the challenge because I finished and from that experience, I started my own Career Consulting business: Authentic, Reliable, Innovative: Career Consulting.

Furthermore, I am the Assistant Director of Career Services at the University of Richmond and I have my own brand, called AK1. It is a finger sleeve brand that athletes can utilize for style and to prevent/recover from finger injuries. Most recently, I started coaching youth basketball players for a Jr. NBA-affiliated organization called Pro Skills Basketball. I have enjoyed being able to give back to the community and really help them learn the fundamentals of Basketball. Who is your sports hero? Russell Westbrook. That dude is tough. I love his energy and he is a guy that no matter how much he fails he won’t just lay down and stay there. I love his mantra “Why Not” and his brand ‘Honor the gift” - I have a sweatshirt and a pair of shorts! What has basketball taught you that carries over into the other areas of your life? To be patient. We all want to rush and get to the end, without even enjoying the process. Looking back from being a kid to now, I am truly proud of my evolvement, my maturity, and my resilience. All of these things have to happen in the game of basketball to be a great player and leader. In terms of basketball, I am being patient at this current moment because I am waiting (and am ready) for my next opportunity. My agent, Helen Bohanna, has done a wonderful job of reminding me to trust in the vision and that with faith, anything can happen.

Can you tell us one of the biggest accomplishments you’ve had in your career? That’s so hard to choose! One of my biggest accomplishments is receiving an All-American award in my sophomore season at Santa Fe College. I worked so hard that summer before and it felt so great, especially because my jersey was selected to be honored at the Women’s Hall of Fame in Tennessee. Another accomplishment was being selected as the First-ever Academic-All American for the Women’s Basketball Team at the University of North Florida. I felt proud knowing that I could handle business on and off the court. What are some of the goals you want to achieve in 2023? I’ll be honest, I am not a big proponent of sharing all my goals with everyone because then it won’t happen! But generally, I want to be able to maintain my businesses, have a healthy work-life balance, continue to put my family and faith first, and be financially stable. Can you give any advice to someone who wants to be an athlete? Don’t compare. Another athlete’s journey is not yours and that other athlete that you are trying to emulate won’t help you align with your destiny in the long run. What are some of your hobbies or interests? Traveling - my favorite places that I have been so far in my life have been Cabos, Jamaica, Bahamas, Sint Maarten, Belize, Connecticut, California. Also, I enjoy watching Law and Order: SVU, going to the beach, online shopping, and journaling. Are you working on any events or upcoming projects? My main projects right now are my consulting business and my brand. It takes a lot of work and energy to be consistent with these aspects of my life, so I work on them daily. I also plan on attending a few networking conferences, traveling internationally, and to better my craft as a Career Advisor in my full-time job. Where can the readers follow you? Tell everyone who you aret you do. My name is Amy Williams. I am a proud, native Washingtonian, Hospitality Expert and Founder of Black Golfers’ Weekend. I have been in the event planning industry for seven years. I love what I do! What motivated you to have a passion for sports? My late father drove my passion, he actually played golf and was one of my greatest inspirations. From an early age, he exposed me to sports. Whether watching football with my father or participating in basketball, crew, and track, sports were an integral part of my youth. Let’s talk about Black Golfers’ Weekend and the motivation behind it. Black Golfers’ Weekend is a collective raising awareness of the social, economic and intellectual interests of African Americans through golf. The annual Weekend is dedicated to celebrating Black golfers and diversity within the sport. I want the African-American community to partake in golf and receive the full benefits it offers. There is much more to golf than the sport itself. It provides networking opportunities and a sense of community that can help build generational wealth and other lifetime opportunities.

What goals do you want to accomplish for 2023? My goal is more of a mindset. I want to continue to remain in a positive energy space. Take life day by day. Strive for excellence through adversity and continue to encourage young black entrepreneurs that there is light at the end of the tunnel and once you get there make sure you tell the next person how to get there. What is one fact about yourself ? I was a tomboy when I was younger. As the only female child/cousin in my family, I was forced to adapt to playing with boys. Thus, I was also predisposed to love sports by my cousins and brother.

Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Yes, I’m launching a great program in Washington, DC for Black History Month to celebrate minority and black owned wine and spirits. Good Juice DC will launch February 2024. You can also look out more from Black Golfers’ Weekend. Where can the readers follow you? Tell us about EGA and how it got started. Elite Golfer’s Association is the event planning company behind Black Golfers’ Weekend. My father played golf, so I thought I’d get at it from a different angle and plan events for small golfing groups and tournaments. Then, it led to Black Golfers’ Weekend. Who is your sports hero and why? Anne Gregory is my sports hero. I admire how she continued to strive through adversity . She was a strong African American woman that played golf in a predominantly male driven sport. During that time she dealt with racism, harrassment and sexcism and it never took her off her path of being the first black woman to win the USGA. It taught me that no matter how difficult it gets, keep going.

Being inducted meant that I had left and was leaving a positive mark in that forum but to do it 3x,

in 2 different states, is absolutely unbelievable. It is the highest honor to have your name spoken about in high regard, in a room that you are not in, so to have that happen 3x is humbling. Who is your sports hero? I get asked this a lot and I have to say there is no 1 sports hero. I grew up watching female performers in entertainment and I found such power in their presence and becoming a professional athlete, I saw such phenomenal women in sport who eventually became friends. is a true trailblazer in the field and an invaluable resource for those seeking cutting-edge treatments and solutions. Thanks for interviewing with us. Tell everyone who you are and what you do. Hello, my name is Dr. David Steenblock, and I practice osteopathic medicine. I operate Personalized Regenerative Medicine at 187 Avenida La Pata in San Clemente, California, and am also known as the “stroke doctor”.

Tell us a little bit about your journey and how you became the man you are today. I was born and raised in Northern Iowa on a farm with my family. Being the eldest son, I was given a lot of responsibility early on. By the age of five, I was operating a tractor and working in the field for at least 6 to 8 hours each day. On the farm, you’re exposed to a lot of death because you’re dealing with nature and animals. When I was four years old, I witnessed my first autopsy. My mother initially refused when I begged her to let me watch

the autopsy because she was afraid it would disturb my peace of mind, but after much pleading, she finally gave in. We had one instance of a horse that died at an early age, and in those times - living on a dirt road on a 40-acre farm - the vet decided to do an autopsy right there in the yard. The vet started to show me the insides of the horse and how the systems worked together, and it looked very complicated. It piqued my interest, and I was very much intrigued. I decided then and there to study enough to learn about these systems within humans. My interest in preservation continues to this day, not only in utilizing regenerative medicine to help with debilitating injuries and diseases, but also in helping those who want to stay, look, and feel young forever. What made you want to pursue a career in medicine? I started off by attending Iowa State University, Ames, where I conducted research, studied basic science and gained some understanding of neurophysiological cases. After that, I became fascinated with developing new treatments for diseases. Living in such a way as to develop new therapies that help both you and me are always interesting. How would you define your purpose? My purpose is to care for those whom no one else seems to be able to care for. Can you tell us about “Stemgevity” and what it does for the body? My product Stemgevity™ is an antiaging supplement with a special blend of organic, complementary herbs, vitamins, minerals, and plant

extracts that supports the stem cells in your body’s regular functionality and structure; the word “Youngering” sums up the effects of Stemgevity™ the best. What therapies do you provide to athletes in order for them to perform at their peak? The athletes I’ve seen come in with a lot of joint problems, and they require something called “hypoxia training” which involves breathing in oxygen for five minutes at sea level and then again for another five minutes at Pikes Peak level so that the air level is much slower. What has been the greatest accomplishment you’ve received in your career? My pride and joy is my library, I have one of the biggest research libraries in the world. I have amassed a collection of over 60,000 medical books and millions of research papers. How can readers connect with you? You can connect with me via my website www.strokedoctor.com, or call to set up an appointment with me at (949) 367-8870.

SABRE COOK

32 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. Hi guys. My name is Sabre Cook. I am a professional racing driver as well as a mechanical engineer and I was born and raised in Grand Junction, Co, and started karting at a young age. This is how I got into it and eventually progressed into car racing and then also got my engineering degree in 2017 and this is what I get to do for my day-to-day. I consider myself really lucky. What motivated you to actually want to be a race driver? My dad used to race Motocross and Supercross professionally and he and my mom obviously didn’t want us racing motorcycles because it’s a little bit more dangerous and so we got into karting because after my dad had retired, he obviously loves adrenaline sports, stuff like that. So, he found karting. And then introduced my brother and I to it just before I was eight years old. So how did you get with Kelly Moss Inc? So, at the end of 2021, I was looking at the options for the next season on what series to go into. And Kelly Moss has been essentially the best Porsche team in North America. They’ve had a 30-something-year track record of winning. I don’t even know how many championships there are now, but it’s incredibly impressive, so obviously they were on a lot of people’s radar, and I knew it was a good team to look into and the Portia Career Cup series. It is a great platform, so it just made sense to start and open up

conversations with them. But I did get officially inducted as one of their drivers through a process that happened last year where it was a shootout where they selected a few female drivers to submit their applications and then they narrowed it into three of us that went into the actual real life shootout and we had to do fitness evaluations, interviews and obviously on track sessions where we either were evaluated on consistency as well as our overall performance. So, I was fortunate enough to be able to win that and that secured me a full-time ride with Kelly Moss in the 4th Career Cup series for this season. Yeah, it’s a great opportunity. So, I’m really excited to get our first race underway here soon. What is one of your biggest accomplishments so far in your life? So, in 2012, I became the first female to ever win the Pro Tour National Championship. So, I think that is always something that stands out in my mind, but then also being able to qualify for the W series, the first year, the second year, and the third year. And I was the only American those last two years. I think that is also something that I look back fondly on getting my engineering degree and being able to go work for Reno, F1 and suspend your composite design. I think that was also something that I will look back on as an awesome opportunity to work in a place like that.

What’s the biggest challenge of being a race driver? Gaining sponsorship and partnerships to get on track. Honestly, that is what consumes most of my time. It’s a traditional sport, it is amazing and if you have talent usually you get picked up and you get paid. To perform all these things, but in racing, it’s unfortunately a little bit different, so a lot of it is based on learning how to deal with business, deal with relationships with people and it is incredibly hard to raise some of the massive budgets that we have to come up with to race every year. So, if you could race anywhere in the world, where would you want to race? I would say. My favorite track so far is probably Brands Hatch GP or SPA, and as far as series. I mean if you want to just reach for the stars. IndyCar is an amazing series, so I think that would be a dream come true. So, what are some of the goals you want to accomplish this year for 2023? So, for 2023, the goal is to go into the season working with the team and learning the first few races. So that way I can progress forward through the rest. Ideally, I want to be able to be fighting for the topfive finishes throughout the entire season.

We go next to a NASCAR Xfinity. And then we go back to IMSA and then go back to another Formula One race to cap off the end of the season. So, there’s a lot in the works for these next

one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. And then as far as more historical things, I would say when I was in Italy, I actually got to see Saint Paul’s Basilica was absolutely, like, just unreal. I had that piece of history and how amazing it was and how old it is. How they made it so long ago is just really impressive. I would say those are probably two of the things that does stand out in my mind. What advice would you give to somebody else that wants to be a racetrack driver? I would just let them know that it’s a very long road ahead and there are a lot of different aspects of not only the physical challenges but the mental challenges and the emotional challenges. But learning how to involve business and marketing yourself and building a good team around you. Learning how to be a good leader, I would just make sure that they understand that there are a lot of different aspects that are going to go into their development to be successful and to just embrace all of that because you’re going to learn so many things. I think that it doesn’t get stressed enough to young people that get into the sport they don’t realize that there’s going to be a lot to learn. Where can the readers follow you? I used to be in an honor choir, musicals, and plays when I was in high school, so that’s usually not what someone thinks a race car driver would be involved in, but I was. If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be? If I could have one dream to fight anyone I really don’t know who I would want. Because all of the people I wanted to fight most of the time my Promoter James Hogan made it possible. Lol.

What made you pursue a career as a Professional Boxer? I persuaded the career of Boxing because I am the baby and only girl of 3 boys and I love fighting...I just wasn’t getting paid for it. And my ex-husband wanted me to Box, and he said it was the best way to lose my baby weight. So, I went and did well for myself so well that the owner of the gym asked me would I consider Boxing for real. And I said if you pay me, I’ll be a World Champion. And look at God!!!

What are some goals you want to accomplish for 2023? For 2023 I want to travel a lot and do Motivational Speaking all over the World. I want to encourage and motivate people to NOT settle and know everything is possible. Also maybe model for of these clothing lines...since I work so hard on my body. Lol.

How did you get the name “Sho Nuff ”? The name ShoNuff came from my Coach Craig Fladager. He was so excited to tell me because we had been looking for a name and couldn’t agree on anything. So, one Saturday morning he called and was so Happy and told me the name then fell out laughing asking me do I know where he got it from and of course I did. From the Last Dragon movie. So, it’s been my name from then on.

Tell us one fun fact about yourself. One fun fact about me is once I feel comfortable around you...it’s turn-up time. I am a whole clown. I love to laugh and make others laugh around me. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? The place I want to visit most in this

World is Israel...The Sea of Galilee. I know you probably never got that answer before lol, but that’s where I dream of going someday. (And I will get there). Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? I always have upcoming events and projects after projects....do you know who my PR is. Lol Desirae Benson keeps me moving. I learned there is NO such word as tired in Boxing. And she is showing that to be so true. But keep your eyes and ears open for my speaking engagements... hopefully you’ll can come to some or get me a few to go to. Where can the readers follow you? If anyone would like to follow me on my Social Media here’s where I’ll be: Facebook: Tori Nelson IG: TorishoNuff Or if you want to Book me for any event, contact my PR Desirae Benson @Desiraebbb@gmail.com We would love to hear from All.

Who is your favorite sports hero? Ok well I love Joe Frazier but I would have to say....my cousin Michael Tucker. He played professional Baseball and showed me and others from our hometown that anything is possible. How does it feel to be a 13X World Boxing Champion? To be a 13x World Boxing Champion feels amazing. It was a lot of hard work, sweat, tears and laughter. But also a lot of time in the gym for me and my kids but it showed them never to give up and always work hard at everything. And the reward was the Boxing HALL OF FAME. That let us know all our hard work wasn’t done in vain!

blatantly mention they did not want me as an intern because of my physical disability. Even a major corporation made discriminating remarks during a post-hiring meeting where the ‘sit down part-time gig’ I earned was taken away from me due to cerebral palsy!

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is George Doman, alias ‘georgetragic’. Born with cerebral palsy, today, I’m a disability advocate, hip-hop artist, and a valued disabled music industry professional. I have worked with the International Paralympic Committee brand team for the global campaign “WeThe15,” the sport’s biggest-ever human rights movement to end discrimination. And currently, I’m a faculty member of Warner Music Group’s Global DEI Institute. How would you define your Purpose? Purpose, at the very least, can begin to flame the very amber of how someone may see how much someone knows their value. I think cerebral palsy is, at its core, my dreamcatcher, allowing me to chase dreams mostly captured by non-disabled counterparts, so history states. My Purpose is to pursue happiness standing in the rooms of the record labels, being mentioned by future co-workers in those working environments, only to inspire allies to further aid in disability employment. I’m a variant, a version of something that differs in some respect from other forms of the same thing hoping for the full human experience despite my physical disability because it is my human right.

Tell us how your experience has been teamed up with “WeThe15”. I was brought onto part of the beginning stages of the campaign as a brand campaigns assistant for The International Paralympics by one of my mentors Craig Spence. By connecting with disabled and allied influencers and advocates, I have built awareness around the campaign and discrimination against persons with disabilities. "WeThe15" is the sport’s biggest-ever human rights movement to end discrimination. We aim to transform the lives of the world’s 1.2 billion persons with disabilities, representing 15% of the global population. And the campaign is still growing in the next couple of years! What drew me to want to advocate and end discrimination was when I faced discrimination during my early stages as an audio engineer student/ novice, major recording studios would

Let’s discuss “The Rising Phoenix” Documentary on Netflix. What was it like being a part of the soundtrack for the documentary? Rising Phoenix tells the story of The Paralympic Games from its early stages. Neurologist Sir Ludwig Guttman began the Paralympics with an extraordinary dream: to help his paraplegic patients. Rising Phoenix is the brainchild of Greg Nugent, and well-known composer Daniel Pemberton and music supervisor Gary Welch teamed together to find disabled hip-hop artists leading them to Krip-Hop Nation, a group of worldwide artists

with disabilities. Founded in 2007 by Leroy F. Moore Jr.The soundtrack brought together Toni Hickman, Keith Jones, and myself to watch the film and draw inspiration from the several Paralympic athletes that are followed during the film. We each wrote and produced perspective parts on Daniels’s brilliant composition, which led to us later establishing ourselves as a Sport’s Emmy-winning group of disabled defiant hip-hop artists. It feels incredible because the song will forever be an anthem for every televised Paralympic game in the future. I set out long ago to be a voice for the disabled community, and because of this particular track, my voice and poetry will forever be immortalized in those stadiums.

What goals do you want to accomplish in the next five years? I’m currently a faculty member for Warner Music Group’s DEI Institute. Ultimately, I would love to land a full-time position at Warner Music Group, breaking down the barrier’s ableism has built in our society. Second, I would love to use the earned income I will make in the future to fund my music passion. I want to be a driving force in the music industry with a voice for the voiceless. The hidden away disabled community needs me to be a music business; first, the first one to walk through its halls, its offices with cerebral palsy echoing my footsteps. I hope to be an executive or director one day, building a team of disabled allies. How was the experience being a guest on “The Lowdown with James Yon on Afro TV? I recently interviewed, James was incredibly understanding, and the interview felt laid back! James Yon was very respectful and understanding in trying to hear my feelings on the social model of disability and the issues I face. Together, we discussed my wins, setbacks, and comebacks! I believe many media outlets silence stories like mine because ‘disability’ is often left out of many conversations regarding inclusion and DEI. Disability is not to be cured or looked at as a problem; rather, it should be a learning experience leading to more conversations to erase the bias and create more accessible opportunities for everyone.

What advice can you give the next generation of male leaders? I recommend the next generation learn how to research and reach out! Networking and relationships form bridges to near opportunities. My dear friend, Durell Peart, another fellow disabled connoisseur in the entertainment field, always recommends building relationships, but your approach is key. I will always be authentic in my encounters with possible mentors, friends, or allies in your journey. If you can earn an unpaid or paid internship, you are never better than any position you may gain, especially if you are starting! Lastly, read, research, or consume any content about the company you may keep. Understanding the organization even when you don’t understand the terminology can better future conversations and further your resume while job hunting or if you’re an artist gig-hunting. Who is your sports icon? I’m from Chicago, so Michael Jordan is instrumental in my leadership development. But in recent times, because the Paralympics are extremely important to me, I would say, Sir Ludwig Guttman, who started the Paralympics, is very high, considering he strived to change how the industry views disabled athletes. And honestly, it’s only fitting because starting a brand-new organization/ sporting event based on empathy and compassion for fellow humans is truly iconic.

Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? I’m always working on new music. Hopefully, with my recent venture into Warner Music Group, I plan on leading conversations on disability, accessibility, and human rights at the forefront with fellow employees and hopefully changing the minds of chief executives, assistants, or anyone willing to listen. Where can the readers follow you? You can see me on all socials @georgetragic and embark on some cool boom-bap raps, gym workouts, and self-improvement posts.
