Can you introduce yourself and describe your professional role and responsibilities? My name is Diana Lynch, I am the CEO of Alma De Samana, a Golf Resort nestled in the Dominican Republic. I am the first African American female to lead a resort into the international resorts industry. How does it feel to be the first African American female to own a resort, and what significance does this milestone hold for you? You know, it’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words. I’ve been fortunate to be the first in many aspects of my life, from being the first in my family to go to law school, to becoming a lawyer, and even starting my own law firm. These experiences, though initially daunting, have taught me that once you’ve achieved something once, you can do it again. This achievement of owning a resort is incredibly special because it’s not just about me; it’s about breaking barriers and opening doors for others. While it’s true that I’ve been a developer for about 20 years and a lawyer for 30, each step along the way was a training ground for what I’m doing now. Even though I’m the first, I firmly believe that I won’t be the last. If I don’t take on this challenge, then who will? When we excel in our endeavors, it paves the way for those who come after us. I remember looking up to trailblazers like Mrs Johnson, who made her mark at Salamander in Virginia. She, too, likely faced skepticism and stood out as a trailblazer. I often find myself in rooms where I’m not only the only female but also the only African American. And that’s okay; I wear that badge with pride. Being entrusted with this resort is an honor, and I’m committed to giving it my all every day to honor that trust. It feels good to know that someone believes in me to carry this legacy forward, and I’ll continue to break down barriers and pave the way for others in the process. What factors influenced your decision to choose the Dominican Republic out of all the possible locations in the world for your development project?

condominium complex presented itself, and I saw it as a purposeful endeavor. What made this even more special was discovering the rich history of the land, settled by emancipated Americans in 1824 who brought their culture and traditions to the region. They were gifted the most beautiful land, characterized by mountains, waterfalls, and stunning landscapes. The sense of community and the unique beauty of the area, including whale watching, all contributed to making Alma De Samana a truly exceptional destination. So, the Dominican Republic found me, and I couldn’t be happier with the journey it has led me on. The Dominican Republic was not a place I initially chose but rather a destination that found me. My family has roots in Barbados, and I had already been involved in domestic real estate development across various states, focusing on college campuses and multifamily units. However, my journey to the Dominican Republic began when I was invited on a trip for developers, which I initially saw as a vacation opportunity. I had visited the country before for a wedding and stayed in a villa on a golf course, experiencing the typical tourist destinations like nice restaurants and big casinos. But this time, I ventured beyond the tourist spots and found myself in Monte Cristi, a lesser-known gem of the Dominican Republic. It wasn’t Punta Cana or Puerto Plata; it was something entirely different. I realized that this region was considered the “Hollywood of the Dominican Republic,” where many films were made. The atmosphere felt more like Europe than the Caribbean, with a significant European and Canadian tourist presence. I was captivated by the unique blend of culture and beauty. The development potential I saw was incredible, with homes overlooking the ocean and a sense of tranquility that’s hard to find elsewhere. The short-term rental income potential and ROI in this region outshone many other destinations. As I continued to visit and do my research, I saw the Dominican Republic as a place where I could slow down and ultimately invest my skills and efforts. It coincided with my desire to transition from a 30-year law practice and retire in a place that resonated with me. The opportunity to build a 42-unit

Our connection with the local community in the Dominican Republic is deeply rooted in mutual respect and understanding. When we discovered the concept of heirs’ property, it became clear to us that we were meant to be there. Historically, developers often come into areas, develop properties, and restrict access for the local population. This situation can result in the locals feeling disconnected from their own land. During our negotiations and discussions, we made a verbal agreement, one as solid as any written contract, that our approach would be different. We wanted to ensure that the local community would benefit from our development and that they wouldn’t be excluded. Approximately 60% of our resort property will have open borders, allowing the local residents to access and enjoy the amenities we’re creating. Our goal is to have a positive impact on the local community, to provide them with opportunities to interact with us and our guests, and to create a space where we can learn from each other. By opening up our resort to the locals, we aim to offer an authentic experience that benefits both sides. It’s more than a business endeavor; it’s a commitment to a harmonious and mutually beneficial partnership. Thank you! It’s clear that you’re enthusiastic about your new project and journey. What aspects of this endeavor excite you the most?

something that has been integral to our quest for freedom since emancipation. Fourth-generation Seminar Americans have understood the value of this land and the sense of community it can foster. We aim to recapture that sense of community and wealth-building. Every year, during Founders Week, we want to bring people together to network, learn, grow, and address issues as a community.

I genuinely am excited about this new venture. It’s not every day you get the chance to be a part of something that not only offers beautiful beachfront properties but also creates an opportunity for families who might not afford destinations like Kiawah Island or Martha’s Vineyard. We’re talking about Caribbean properties that can be acquired for under half a million dollars, sometimes even $300,000 to $400,000. In Atlanta, you can hardly buy anything for that price. What’s even more exciting is the potential return on investment. Many property owners in the Dominican Republic are earning substantial income by renting their properties for 50% to 60% of the year. Some are making $200,000 annually, and we’ve even heard of one lady making $600,000. You could potentially pay off your investment in less than five years and continue to own it for your family, possibly even leasing it as a short-term rental while still enjoying it yourself. The tax incentives are another huge plus. The Dominican Republic offers 15 years of tax-free tourism income. Imagine what you could make there without paying taxes to the Dominican Republic for a decade and a half. You do still have to pay taxes in the U.S. if you’re a US citizen, but it’s an incredible opportunity that we want to make accessible to everyone. So yes, I’m thrilled about it, and we’re passionate about educating people on this amazing opportunity, especially within our own community.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years? In the next five years, I see myself enjoying retirement once again. I know it may sound like I’m talking about retirement a lot, but it’s because I truly want to savor this phase of life. I’ve dedicated three decades to practicing law, advocating for marginalized individuals, from my time as a JAG officer to various civil litigation cases and mergers and acquisitions. Now, it’s my time to step back and empower others to take the reins. My plan is to set the stage for others who share our mission and vision to take over the company. I want to ensure that the mission and vision we’ve set in motion continue to thrive, even beyond my direct involvement. It’s not just about financial returns; it’s about creating a sense of community. I want to see a community similar to what places like Martha’s Vineyard have offered historically. We’ve lost the sense of community that used to exist, where neighbors knew each other, helped each other, and built networks that benefited everyone. We’re aiming to recreate that sense of community at Seminar, where we own our properties. It’s about creating a space where we can genuinely connect, watch out for each other, and network. The seminar is about changing the narrative and rewriting history by focusing on land ownership,

Our belief in alma Amin soul signifies a nod to heritage, but it also reflects our belief that at our core, we are all the same. We believe in living in harmony and community with one another, and we welcome everyone who shares our values, even if it takes a special kind of person to invest in a community led by African Americans. We are committed to black excellence and creating a welcoming space for those who want to be a part of our community. What projects are you working on other than just the resort? Apart from the resort, I’m also actively involved in another project called “Signature Atlanta.” This project is a mixed-use community located in Mechanicsville, Atlanta. Mechanicsville is a community that has been facing ongoing challenges, with the city often neglecting its development. Unfortunately, it’s an all-too-familiar story where communities south of I-20 face challenges while areas north of I-20 thrive. I’ve made a commitment to bring positive change to Mechanicsville. It’s a predominantly African American community that deserves to see its property values increase, have access to good schools, and enjoy the benefits of economic development, just like any other community. My goal with Signature Atlanta is to develop a best-in-class mixed-use community. This project includes eight retail spaces, a six-story commercial building with a two-story restaurant, and $800,000 townhome units. The presence of these major businesses and restaurants can help attract more diversity and investment in the area. Unfortunately, the city has not fully embraced this initiative, and it’s been a challenging journey. The city has decided to build yet another homeless shelter and low-income housing

facility in the area, which could hinder the progress of Signature Atlanta. However, my commitment to revitalizing Mechanicsville remains strong, and I will continue to work towards creating a thriving community that benefits its residents. I’ve been involved in Mechanicsville for 20 years, not just as a developer but as a resident, and I believe in its potential. My hope is that the city will recognize the importance of supporting initiatives like Signature Atlanta and creating incentives for businesses to invest in the community. So, in addition to the resort, this is another mission that I am dedicated to at this moment. That’s wonderful to hear! Community involvement and support are crucial. Could you share more about the specific ways you’re planning to contribute and make a positive impact in Atlanta? Absolutely, the word “we” is crucial, and it’s essential for the community to understand that we all share responsibility for those who are less fortunate. It’s not something that should be borne solely by one community: it’s a collective responsibility. I’ve had firsthand experience with this as well. I served as the chairman of Fulton County Workforce for seven years, and I had a grant with HUD for four years to support homeless women and children. In my role, I’ve seen the realities of homelessness, and it’s not just about an inability to find work or housing. Many individuals experiencing homelessness also face mental health challenges or struggles with addiction. Placing them in closely held environments doesn’t allow them to break free from these challenges; instead, it can exacerbate them. It’s like putting roaches together; they incubate and grow. However, if you provide an environment where they can interact with people who are thriving, it can make a significant difference. I can relate to this from my own background. I grew up in the Boulevard Houses in Brooklyn, New York, and I’m proud of where I came from. Families in those communities worked hard, and we saw our parents going to work every day. When we were able to

move out of those environments, we wanted homes because we had experienced a different way of living. That’s the message we need to convey to individuals facing homelessness— that there is another way, and they can achieve it. Seeing and experiencing something different can be a powerful catalyst for change. What can you tell us about your resort and the extensive range of offerings it provides to guests and property owners? When it comes to the offerings at the resort, we’ve gone above and beyond to provide a world-class experience for our guests and investors. Our resort, thoughtfully designed by the renowned DBL design team from the UK, boasts a level of excellence that’s truly unmatched. DBL has previously designed 40 exceptional resorts worldwide, including the prestigious Laucala island in Fiji, which holds both six-star and six-diamond ratings. They’ve truly outdone themselves with our project in Seminar. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect at our resort: Luxurious Villas: We offer a variety of villa options, including eco-villas, hillside villas, and golf-side villas. Whether you prefer breathtaking views or proximity to the golf course, there’s a villa that suits your taste. Exclusive Golf Experience: Golf enthusiasts will be delighted to hear that we’re developing an 18-hole golf course right on our property. Imagine teeing off amidst stunning natural beauty. Elite Celebrity Island: We’ve reserved an entire island, accessible only by moat, where elite celebrities can secure one of the 36 exclusive lots. It’s the perfect private getaway. Golf-Adjacent Lots: For those seeking the ideal balance of nature and recreation, we offer golf-adjacent lots. Prices start at $250,000 and go up to $800,000, ensuring there’s an option for every budget. Hillside Villas: Our hillside villas, starting at just $93,000, provide an incredible opportunity to invest in paradise without breaking the bank. Affordable Land: If you dream of building your own custom villa, we have fourth and fifth-acre lots starting at just $50,000.

But what truly sets us apart is our commitment to making resort ownership accessible. We understand that not everyone has half a million dollars lying around, and that’s why we offer a range of financing options. Accessing capital isn’t as out of reach as you might think. You might have equity in your home that could be used, or you can join forces with friends, family, or colleagues to collectively invest in this opportunity. It’s about rethinking the traditional path to ownership. Our community of pioneers and investors started with a shared vision and a belief in the value of getting in early. By pooling their resources and doing their research, they not only preserved their investments but exceeded what the stock market could offer. In today’s unpredictable market, resort ownership can offer stability and appreciation that can outpace other investments. It’s about taking control of your investment and having the opportunity to participate in something truly special. And once you’re part of our community, you’ll enjoy a turnkey experience. Our resort offers a wide array of amenities, including a spa, an amphitheater, live music events, a professional sports facility for training athletes in the offseason, and even a stem cell medical facility. We’re also excited to announce that in 2026, we’ll be hosting a film festival, an event known to boost property values by 20% to 30%. So, whether you’re seeking a vacation home, an investment opportunity, or a way to diversify your financial portfolio, our resort provides a winning formula. With flexible financing, a wide range of property options, and a wealth of amenities and activities, we’re dedicated to ensuring our owners win. Join us in creating a thriving, vibrant community where your dreams of resort ownership can become a reality. CHEF

CATORE 10 PROMOTING NETWORK

Can you tell our audience who you are, what you do, and where you’re from? Greetings, everyone! I go by the name Chef Catore, and I’m not your ordinary chef. I specialize in providing exclusive private chef services and catering experiences that span across a diverse range of locations, including New York City, the Hamptons, New Jersey, Georgia, and even the vibrant state of Texas.

What’s your favorite dish or dessert you’d like to make? I have an undeniable passion for crafting desserts, and one of my alltime favorites to create, which might be considered quite old-fashioned, is a delectable, fused banana pudding, or alternatively, a fused bread pudding. Among these delightful treats, bread pudding holds a special place in my heart as my personal favorite.

What motivated you to want to be a chef ? I frequently find myself recounting this tale. You see, the notion of becoming a chef never once occupied my thoughts. There was no strong impetus pushing me toward this culinary path. Cooking, however, held a special place in my heart, a skill I had honed through cherished moments shared with my grandmother during my typical family upbringing. Yet, being a chef was a career aspiration conspicuously absent from my life’s agenda.

My bread pudding creation is a work of culinary art. I carefully infuse it with an indulgent Uncle Nearest caramel drizzle that adds an irresistible richness to each bite. What’s truly fascinating is the regional appeal of these desserts among my clientele.

My ambitions were decidedly different. I harbored dreams of becoming an impactful social worker, envisioning myself as a beacon of hope for foster children, much like I once was. The vision of donning a chef ’s hat had no presence in my professional vision. But life, as it often does, threw me a curveball. It was a pivotal moment when the universe seemed to realign itself—a story worth exploring further. My journey began in the corporate world, initially as a business consultant, navigating the intricacies of the business realm. From there, I transitioned into business management, deepening my understanding of organizational dynamics. Then, in an unforeseen twist, I embarked on a new chapter in my life by enrolling in culinary school. There, I embarked on a culinary adventure that would forever alter my destiny. Within a mere six months of graduating, I ventured into the hallowed kitchens of Michelin-starred restaurants, and later, I found myself in the esteemed role of a private chef at Barclays. This narrative chronicles a transformational journey—a shift in dreams and an unexpected metamorphosis from a future dedicated to social work to the culinary heights I now proudly ascend.

For some inexplicable reason, my bread puddings have become a southern sensation, selling out in no time. The allure of the warm, comforting flavors must resonate deeply with those who appreciate the southern culinary tradition. Meanwhile, in the bustling cities of New York and New Jersey, my banana pudding is the star attraction. It’s a dessert so beloved that it disappears from the shelves within a mere five minutes of being offered. To meet the soaring demand, I prepare these delightful desserts in jars, and yet they vanish like a sweet, fleeting dream. The secret? Well, it’s in the fusion of flavors and the passion I pour into each creation, making them irresistible to dessert enthusiasts on both ends of the map. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? I’m excited to share a bit about my upcoming venture, although I do have some confidentiality obligations. I’ll be opening a café, not a restaurant, as I prefer a more intimate setting where I can maintain a level of control. Cafes have always held a special place in my heart for their cozy and personal atmosphere. What’s particularly thrilling about this project is that I’ll be collaborating with various industry leaders, including renowned artists, some of whom are celebrities, and others who are striving to make their mark in the mainstream. My café will serve as a platform for these artists to express themselves. Additionally, our menu will be truly unique, dedicated to a special group of people often overlooked in the realm of food and consumption. This

concept is entirely one-of-a-kind, as there’s no other café or restaurant in the world focused on this particular population. I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring a new level of food and experience to the scene. I appreciate your interest and support, and I look forward to sharing more exclusive details soon. Thank you! Top of Form How was the experience working with the Food Network? I had the opportunity to participate in three Food Network shows: Food Network Chat, Food Network Kitchen Crash, and Food Network Fire Masters. Each one offered a unique experience, but I’d say Fire Masters was the most challenging. Chopped was an incredible experience, and Kitchen Crash provided valuable lessons. In Chopped, everything is timed, unscripted, and full of surprises. I won’t reveal if I lasted or not – you’ll have to tune in to find out! I’ve been fortunate to keep returning to the Food Network stage every two weeks, and I’m incredibly grateful to all the viewers who keep watching. The episodes I was in are Fried Food Deliciousness on Chopped, the Season Pro episode on Fire Masters, and the Long Island episode on Kitchen Crash. These shows taught me crucial skills like time management, pacing, and the ability to create something from seemingly nothing, which extends beyond the kitchen—it’s a life lesson in itself. What I’ve learned is that I may not be cut out for competitions. However,

I’ve discovered my strength lies in a fastpaced kitchen environment, especially when I have an event to manage. I thrive as a team player, and competing in a culinary arena isn’t where I excel. I had the exciting opportunity to participate in three Food Network shows: Food Network Chat, Food Network Kitchen Crash, and Food Network Fire Masters. Each show provided a unique and memorable experience, with Fire Masters standing out as the most challenging. Chopped was absolutely incredible, and Kitchen Crash was an educational journey. Chopped is a whirlwind of timed challenges, completely unscripted and filled with surprises. I’ll keep you guessing whether I succeeded or not – you’ll have to watch to find out! I’m truly grateful for the chance to return to the Food Network stage every two

weeks, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated viewers who keep tuning in. My appearances include the mouthwatering “Fried Food Deliciousness” episode on Chopped, the intense “Season Pro” episode on Fire Masters, and the captivating “Long Island” episode on Kitchen Crash. These shows not only honed my culinary skills but also taught me invaluable life lessons in time management, pacing, and the art of creating something out of seemingly nothing. Through this journey, I’ve come to realize that while I may not be a competitive culinary warrior, I truly shine in a fast-paced kitchen environment, especially when managing events. I thrive as a team player, and my strengths lie in collaborative culinary ventures rather than the competitive arena. Are there any chefs that Inspires you? I’ve been incredibly fortunate to collaborate closely with some talented and supportive chefs in the industry. Chef L. Simone, author of the book “Boards,” which focuses on charcuterie boards, has been an invaluable collaborator. Chef J. Ponder has acted as a mentor, guiding me in business ventures and group cooking projects, fostering a strong support system. Chef Art Thomas, Chef Ingram (formerly associated with Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union), and Chef Bow Wow have all been generous with their business advice and insights. I’ve managed to build a robust

network of chefs here in Atlanta, where I’m based. What sets these individuals apart is their willingness to open doors and offer guidance, even to someone like me who is relatively new to the culinary scene. Despite being in the industry for 20-30 years, they recognize my rapid progress and the unique rooms I’ve found myself in – not just celebrity circles but also nonprofit and community spaces. These chefs have played an integral role in my career, offering their support, checking in on my progress, and helping me navigate the culinary world. Maintaining this strong chef network has been a blessing, as we all share common goals, support each other’s endeavors, and collaborate seamlessly. It’s a tight-knit circle built on trust and a genuine desire to see each other succeed. We often refer clients to one another and are dedicated to each other’s growth. I’m truly grateful for the open arms and camaraderie that have defined my journey in this industry. As for the biggest challenge in my career, I believe it’s striking a balance between creative expression and the practical aspects of running a culinary business. While I have a passion for crafting unique dishes and experiences, there are logistical and administrative challenges

that come with entrepreneurship. Finding that equilibrium between artistry and entrepreneurship has been a continuous learning process for me. What would you think is the biggest challenge and your career? Absolutely, saying no can indeed be a significant challenge in the culinary world. Food has a remarkable ability to bring people together, and as someone who values connection and relationships, it’s natural to want to accommodate every opportunity that comes your way. However, as you’ve rightly pointed out, constantly saying yes can sometimes hinder your own well-being and the strategic needs of your business. Balancing the desire to serve others with the necessity of self-care and focusing on the core aspects of your business can be a delicate task. Recognizing when to decline offers or when to delegate tasks to others is crucial for maintaining a sustainable and thriving enterprise. Moreover, keeping up with the everevolving landscape of technology, including trends like AI and social media, is another challenge that many entrepreneurs face. It’s essential to stay attuned to emerging tools and platforms that can benefit your business. Finding a balance between the personal touch you bring to your work and leveraging technology to enhance your reach and efficiency can be a rewarding but complex endeavor. You’re not alone in grappling with these challenges and acknowledging them is the first step toward finding effective solutions that align with your values and goals. Your commitment to your clients, your business, and your personal approach are invaluable assets, and finding the right balance between all these elements is a journey of growth and adaptation.

What is your biggest accomplishment so far in your career? Despite facing health challenges, including cancer and tumors, I’ve persevered rather than giving up. Many people might consider returning to a conventional job, especially for the security it offers. However, as an entrepreneur, healthcare and business management become your responsibility. It’s a significant consideration, particularly when health concerns arise. Maintaining a cheerful and memorable personality has been a point of pride for me. I strive to bring positivity to any room I enter, and I’m always ready to share knowledge and uplift others. Staying resilient and joyful, even in the face of adversity, can be transformative for both personal well-being and the surrounding environment. Another source of pride is successfully starting and sustaining my business. Even during challenging periods when bookings are slow, I’m determined not to give up. Instead, I focus on staying active, finding ways to contribute, and keeping my mind engaged. It’s a skill that many find challenging, but I’ve made it a key part of my journey. Is there any advice or a message you’d like to share with the audience? Becoming an entrepreneur is undoubtedly challenging, and I have immense respect for anyone who embarks on this journey. I often advise people that if a dream

is something that consumes their thoughts day and night, if it becomes an integral part of their spirit and soul, then they should absolutely go for it. One of the first steps I recommend is creating a vision board. A vision board serves as a powerful tool to outline, manifest, and structure your goals. It sends a message to the universe that you are committed to bringing your dreams to life. I encourage everyone to give themselves a chance to walk in their purpose. Whether you’re 40, 50, or 67 years old, pursuing something that truly brings joy to your soul is worth it. You can certainly keep your nine-to-five job, but don’t give up on your passion. It’s possible to find fulfillment in doing what makes you genuinely happy. You can find me on Instagram at @chefcatore. Additionally, be on the lookout for my upcoming book, which will be a memoir cookbook. This book will take you through the various stages of my life, from my experiences in foster care to my journey through teenage hood, adulthood, social work, and finally, into the culinary world. Each chapter will be associated with a different part of my life, featuring a recipe that reflects that period. It’s a way for me to share both a piece of myself and a piece of my culinary expertise with readers. Keep an eye on my social media for sneak peeks and updates on the book’s release.

LINDA PEAVY 14 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Linda Peavy, and I am a 60-year-old mature, curvy style influencer and body positivity advocate. I founded the awardnominated blog Cultured Curves: Sophisticated Style, Fashion, and Beauty for Curvy Women over 50, heralded by Feedspot as “one of the best blogs on the planet for women over 50.” I speak internationally, and my style contributions can be found on todayshow.com and other platforms. I also own LiPav Consulting, LLC, a communications and grants firm founded in 2008. How would you define your purpose? My purpose is to help mature, curvy women feel good about themselves. I want women to know that life does not end after you turn fifty. Roles often define mature women. When women turn fifty, those roles sometimes change, and self-worth is hard to find. Maybe they are no longer a wife, or their children are now adults, so they see themselves as empty nesters. Women are often retired in their fifties, so their work title no longer defines them. It is too easy to give up on what feels good to us because those desires have been suppressed for so long while we placed others’ needs before our own. Society tells us we are “over the hill” and no longer vital or viable. We allow our inner feelings about ourselves to affect our outward appearance. We often give up on being stylish. Well, when you look good, you feel good. I want to motivate women to believe in themselves, no matter their size or age. Let’s talk about Cultured Curves and the motivation behind it. Cultured Curves is a blog that offers sophisticated style, fashion, and beauty tips for plus size women over 50. My posts keep mature women dressing chic and classy, whether at a ball or ball game. I provide inspiration and motivation to remind mature and curvy women that they are beautiful, bold, and bodacious daily. When I began my career as a plus size executive traveling the world, I was always the largest person in the room and I felt the need to overcome the perception of plus size women worldwide. Knowing that with weight comes judgment, I was resigned to showing up as the most fashionable version of myself.

Finally, in my mid-fifties, I decided to help other women feel good about themselves. Because of the positive comments I would receive about my style, I knew I could help other women with their style. I also wanted to address the lack of self-esteem that can come from being mature and curvy. Many of us no longer have the bodies of our youth. I often encountered women who did not know how to dress their bodies or where to buy clothing. Thus, Cultured Curves was born to offer a roadmap to style and self-love. What motivates you to want to empower women? I want mature women to know that, no matter their body shape or age, they can dress stylishly and feel good about what they see in the mirror. Because our scale or dress size differs from 30 years ago, we often measure our self-worth by numbers. I was fortunate to have grown up in a family of seven siblings and a mom and dad who loved me unconditionally.

Having been plus size since the second grade, I was never made to feel bad about my body by my family. I had relationships where I was loved as a plus size woman. I have been lucky. So many women don’t share this journey. I want to empower women to know they are just as worthy now as they were when they were twenty. Let’s talk about” LiPav Consulting” and how it got started. I began LiPav Consulting, LLC in 2008, a marketing, communications, and grant-writing company, after retiring from an executive publishing position in 2006 due to an injury. After two years of healing, I was unable to find work. Out of sheer necessity, I started LiPav Consulting, LLC. Marketing and communication services have been provided for national presidential campaigns, the Miss America Organization, and other establishments. I have been blessed to work with high-profile individuals such as Ruby Dee, Danny Glover, and Delroy Lindo. I learned the art of grant writing during one of my contracted positions. To date, I have secured over $17 million in funds and business development for my clients. I have been proud to help fund K-12 education, veteran’s organizations, forprofit businesses, churches, and others. In 2022, I decided to pivot my company to serve more clients by teaching the art of grant writing. Tell everyone who you are and what you do. I’m Deirdre, but you might know me better as Domonique Simone. I was a prominent figure in the adult film industry, but I’ve moved on to pursue a Career in Medical, Real Estate and Music Entertainment. I’m also a mother of 4 and an author. Who or What motivated you to be the person you are today? My grandmother played a significant role in shaping me. She was a strict Southern Baptist woman who instilled in me the values that I carry to this day. Also, the challenges and experiences I’ve faced in my career have made me who I am. Let’s talk about your book “A Star IS Porn” and the motivation behind the book. My book serves as a raw, unfiltered look into my life and the adult film industry. It’s about the ups and downs, the glam and the grit. I wanted to share my story to shed light on the realities many don’t see. At what point did you decide to be an author and tell your truth? I decided to become an author when I realized that my story could serve as both a cautionary tale and an inspiration. I’ve lived a life of extremes, and I felt it was time to share that. Is there anything you would like people to take away from your book? I want people to understand that life is complicated. We all make choices, some good, some bad, but it’s never too late to change your path. What has been the biggest achievement in your career? My biggest achievement would be successfully transitioning from the adult film industry to a more traditional career in nursing. It’s a testament to the fact that you’re not defined by your past. Tell us one fact about yourself. I was born on June 18th, 1971, in a hospital hallway while my mother was still in high school. What is one thing you would tell your younger self ? Don’t be afraid to be yourself, but also be mindful of the choices you make. They’ll stick with you. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Currently, I’m focused on Nursing Real Estate and Music Entertainment Ventures. But who knows, another book might be on the horizon. Where can the readers follow you? Tell everyone who you are and what you do. I am Jahmar Hill, award winning filmmaker from Elizabeth, NJ. I write, direct, producer in movies as well as an actor. What made you want to pursue a career in the film industry? I was trying to find a passion outside of basketball because basketball was all I knew and music. Thing I got introduced to the acting world, Simoné asked me to audition for their movie and I got the role. The Acting role led me to want to write and direct my own movies. Let’s talk about the film “Last Love Lost” and the motivation about the film. Last Love Lost was my first film. The story came about through real life situations. I feel we grow up sometimes and see parents fight or adults fight as kids and never really understand it. I wanted to touch on real life stories like a lot of households go through. Such as domestic violence. What is one of your favorite films? I would have to say love and basketball is one of my favorite films. It touched on so many things. Love, betrayal, sacrifice and handwork. It was a prime example of your work for what you want, and they didn’t just showcase it in love, they showcased it through a career too. How would you define your purpose? I will say I am a natural born giver. I like giving opportunities and helping people. I think this is why films are my passion because I get to create opportunities for the world. Where do you see yourself in the next three years? In the next three years, I see myself further in my career, financially better and starting a family of my own. What has been one of the biggest accomplishments you’ve had in your career? It’s hard to pick one but if I had to really choose, I would say creating my movie Last Love Lost. Without that movie, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Can you tell us one fun fact about yourself ? I love making music and dancing. It brings me joy. Are you working on any new events or projects? I am working on a tv series and in preproduction for my new movie called Last Ride, starring Taye Diggs. Where can the readers follow you? Everything is under Jahmar Hill.

TRACY CHRISTIAN

Creator of Sante Grace, The Sustainable Luxury Plus Size Fashion Brand for The Curvy Connoisseur

22 PROMOTING NETWORK

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. My name is Tracy Christian and I’m talent agent and clothing designer. How did you get into fashion? I got into fashion the same way we all did; I put on clothes except in my case they didn’t always fit so I began to design and sew. Let’s talk about “Sante Grace” and how it got started. I’d always wanted my own clothing line, but it was prohibitively expensive to start production. I tried lots of times. Finally, technology and God created the opportunity. Today you can create a tech pack online, run small local production, and then sell in your own online boutique. Twenty years ago, even ten years ago, that wasn’t possible. How do you keep up with fashion trends? We try to be stylish not trendy. I’m creating clothes you’ll be able to wear for more than a single season. I do pay attention to what’s happening in the European houses and New York fashion week. Where do you see yourself in the next three years? Scaling. I love who we are today and am eager to share the Sante Grace experience with a larger audience. What has been the biggest accomplishment in your career? That’s such a huge question. As an agent I’ve had clients win and be nominated for Oscars, Golden

Globes…. But truly it’s about the journey. Meeting someone and working together to develop their career. As a designer every time I get an email telling me how great someone felt in one of our dresses it puts a battery on your back to do more. I love it when people like Jennifer Coolidge wear our clothes on the cover of big publications like Variety but for me it’s all about the feeling behind the clothes that allow women to celebrate themselves. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? Currently Bali and my own back yard are my two favorite places on Earth. The food, the climate, and the warm people make Bali a paradise. And I turned a concrete slab into a minute Bali complete with koi pond, exotic fruit trees and a hammock. What are some of your bestsellers? Jogger – I’m tall with big hips and a tummy – surprise I could never find pants that fit. I love this pant so much that my production manager had to tell me to stop putting out so many joggers without matching tops. When my father passed away, I was devastated. I grabbed my black silk joggers and black pussybow blouse and it provided so much comfort while I worked on saying goodbye. It’s still my go to look whenever I have to do something important. Sack dress – Perfect dress. 100% linen, pockets, and goes on over the head. One summer I had multiple out of town weddings, sets to visit…. And had to do it in sweltering New Jersey weather. The sack dress was the only answer. I was cool, looked professional and the dress was extremely easy to travel with. We sell out every year. Slip dress – I fantasized about producing a Jean Harlow-isq line made from silk charmeuse with robes, tap pants, camisoles, and a full slip – all as outer wear. I didn’t know if the plus community would share my vision, so we decided to produce the ultimate slip dress to test the market. Now we sell so many slip dresses I haven’t had time to design the other items. Maybe I’ll work on that today! Flightsuit – All my life I wanted a jumpsuit that fit. We created an experience. Our flightsuit is full of working pockets, made from cupro so it

looks and feels like the finest silk; it’s wide enough in the thigh, buttocks, stomach and is that kind of French loach hang. I’m shaming the Devil because we also make it in sizes 1x – 5x. Everything here is top drawer. Caftan – This is the first item I produced. I’d seen caftans worn all over the world and remember references images of socialites like Slim Keith in turbans and caftans to say nothing of my hero Yves Saint Lauren, so caftans were inevitable. Ours are available in multiple types of silk and can take you from the pool to the boardroom. This is the truth; I wore our caftan to a business meeting with designer bag…. and went straight from the meeting to the airport to Jamaica. My wardrobe actually makes my fabulous life possible. Wrap dress – this is what’s next on the horizon. Lots of companies offer wrap dresses but it’s usually pretty bland. I’m thinking silk jersey and fabulous prints. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? I believe in community over competition. It’s something I’ve had to learn over the years. This Black Friday I’m working producing plus size luxury sale in my office with six other brands. Where can the readers follow you? IG: @SanteGrace

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. I am the Founder and Director of EBL Coaching, a one-on-one tutoring program that helps students in grades Pre-K -12 with learning challenges to build their academic skills. I hold my Master’s Degree in Special Education and my Doctorate Degree in Education. I performed a five-year research study on alternative strategies for teaching reading comprehension to students with learning disabilities and won a fifth place Westinghouse Science and Talent Award. In 2017, I was selected as one of Bergen County’s Commission on the Status of Women Honorees during Women’s History Month. I have spoken nationally and internationally on various education topics, and I write regularly for education publications. What or Who motivated you to be the person you are today? My mother was the Founder of a school for students with learning disabilities in South Florida over forty years ago. I spent much of my childhood working at her school and being trained in various methods for helping students who struggle academically. I was truly motivated by how much a child’s life can change for the better with the right academic support. That motivated me to pursue my Master’s Degree in Special Education, and then later on - my Doctorate Degree in Education. Ultimately, I chose to create EBL Coaching. Let’s talk about “EBL Coaching” and how it got started. Sure! I began by personally working one-on-one with students who had learning challenges in my small apartment in downtown New York City. I quickly realized that there was a tremendous need for these services, and I was only one person with a limited amount of time. That motivated me to open a small office. Soon enough, I created a larger space, and eventually - a learning center. Along the way, I brought on tutors who specialized in helping students at different skill and age levels. What programs and learning opportunities do you offer? We specialize in helping students in grades Pre-K-12 who have learning

challenges develop their reading, writing, math, and executive functioning skills. We offer one-on-one tutoring both at our learning centers in NY, NJ, and PA, as well as virtually worldwide. Tell us more about your book and the motivation behind the book. Sure! I am the author of Strategies for Study Success, a fifteen-part student workbook series that teaches students strategies for reading comprehension, writing, test taking, note taking, and executive functioning skills. I am also the author of the Flags and Stars Orton Gillingham Student Workbook Series for Reading, as well as the Flags and Stars Multisensory Math Student Workbook Program. I created these workbooks really out of necessity; I knew how well students responded to a multi-sensory approach to teaching and that many students needed a lot of repetition to grasp new concepts. I could not find books out there that met what I was looking for, so I created my own. These books are now used at schools nationwide. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? I hope to continue growing EBL Coaching nationally and internationally. I also wish to help

many more students with learning challenges excel academically. What has been the biggest accomplishment in your career? Expanding EBL Coaching into what it is today! It has certainly been a journey, but ultimately, I feel grateful to have such a wonderful, thriving tutoring program that helps so many students. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to go to India one day. I am fascinated by different cultures and love to see how others live in their own environment. Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? Yes! I am working on a software program that will help students improve their writing skills and will score and track their progress. This is something very unique that can truly help students build their writing skills while they enjoy the process. I am very excited about this project. Where can the readers follow you? me want to shut down, but God told me to put what I was feeling into this book because a blessing will come even when it may not seem like it. If you put forth the time and effort of praising him with gratitude, your blessing and healing will come. Therefore, the motivation behind the book was to show the power of praise and how I had to praise him through all my circumstances like my son was home with me and thank him for what he’s already done in our life.

Tell everyone who you are and what you do. Hi, my name is Brenda Jefferson. I’m a wife, a mother, an author, a philanthropist, a songwriter, an entrepreneur, and a mentor, to name a few. My day-to-day consists of standing beside my husband, Bishop M.B. Jefferson as co-pastor at Living and Victory Church for over 44 years. Who motivated you to be the person you are today? My motivation comes from my husband. He pushes and encourages me every day to fulfill the potential God has given me (Bishop M.B. Jefferson). He gave me the courage to step out of my shell and believe in myself. How would you define your purpose? Purpose is defined when you walk in God’s plan for your life. The Bible says In Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Once I began to understand my purpose and my calling, I was successfully able to fulfill it. God gave me a ministry of music, and with this, I minister the word of God through songs and music. This allows me to inspire those around me and also those whom I may have never met through the music that I have written. Let’s talk about your book “Praise Him While You Wait” and the motivation behind the book. When I was struggling with my health and barely making ends meet, praise became a powerful tool to push through whatever came at me. When my son was sent to prison, it felt as if I was losing control; it made

Where do you see yourself in five years? The Bible says are steps are ordered by the Lord. My desire would be to continue to help those who are less fortunate. We run an outreach ministry that was started in Tampa, Florida. In the years to come, I see our ministry doubling in size, able to assist in helping twice as many, equipped with a new youth center and a newly renovated facility. What has been one of the biggest accomplishments you’ve received in your career? Being able to take something that felt as if it was a dream and having people from all over the world singing my songs and reading my books. God has gifted me with the opportunity of being around artists who I listen to, to them singing music that I have written. I feel extremely blessed.

Let’s talk about “Mr. B’s Southern Kitchen” and how it got started. Initially, Mr. B’s was a sandwich shop. We had no idea that it would gain so much traction over the course of six years and turn into an acclaimed soul food restaurant. Mr. B’s is a story of taking something from nothing. An example of what hard work and determination can get you, even when others fail to see the glue that it will eventually become in our community. If you could talk to your younger self what is one thing you would tell her? I would tell my younger self, don’t live in fear. Fear is a barricade that holds us all back from our full potential, and if I had let fear take control of me, I would not be where I am now. Are you working on any projects or upcoming events? I’m excited about my upcoming album soon to be released. I currently have a single being out, titled Lamb of God, featuring Stephen Hurd. This can be found on all streaming platforms. I also have my annual concert called Ladies & Lyrics, which takes place every year in October. This year it’s held on October 21st. Where can the readers follow you? Hate Shopping for Clothes, Big & Tall Men?

Now You Don't Have to, Thanks to

N

ationwide: Have you ever noticed the drastic difference in the way men and women shop? Women like to take their time, meandering around the racks, checking out sales, trying clothes on, maybe even taking a coffee break with their girlfriends before finally returning to make a purchase. Men, however, are slightly different. You’d think they had blinders on their eyes the way they march into the store, go directly to the

item they need (never asking directions, naturally), bring it to the register, and leave as quickly as humanly possible. With some exceptions, men simply hate shopping! The unfortunate result, though, is that they still need to wear clothes when they leave their houses unless they want to get arrested. This often leads to the scenario of grabbing whatever items of clothes their hand touches first in the closet, whether or not they actually go together or even fit. Who cares if I look like a slob as long as I don’t have to actually shop, right? Wrong! Even though, obviously, what’s on the inside is far more important than what’s on the outside, there’s no getting

around the fact that what you wear causes people to respond to you in a certain way. If you want to be taken seriously at your job, with the ladies, or anywhere else, you simply must look the part. growing the practice. It is not always easy, and some days can be quite challenging from the mere fact that I not only work on the kid’s teeth, but that am also running the business as well. Although, at the end of the day, it is so worth all the challenges it brings. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? I will go anywhere in the world that my wife wants to go - Haha. Although, I would really love to go and see the pyramids in Egypt!

Thanks for interviewing with us. Tell everyone who you are and what you do. I’m Dr. Michael Koumaras, Owner and Founder of Best Dentist for Kids - a pediatric dentistry in Philadelphia and Hatboro, PA. Dentistry runs in my family, dating back to my grandfather who was an oral surgeon himself. Although, I actually started my career having joined my mother’s practice; In my time with her, I learned the do’s and don’ts early on and the importance of the patient experience. How would you define your purpose? My purpose is to give kids a great experience when they go to the dentist. It can be very intimidating for a kid or teen to have someone they barely know invade their personal space with a variety of big, loud tools. That’s why I always try to do my very best to ensure my patients feel comfortable when they visit my office, so they know they’re in great hands. I especially love having parents as a part of their child’s treatment visits because then I really get to know the whole family and make it a comfortable experience for everyone.

My biggest accomplishment could be different awards and accolades, but it’s really the satisfaction I get from taking a scared child and helping them enjoy their visit at the dentist. Nothing brings me more joy than taking one of my young patients, completing dental work on them, and having them leave happy. Tell us what motivates you to keep going? My family is a major motivator. My grandfather always told me, “It is not IQ, it is I CAN and I WILL,” and that has helped me so much throughout my journey. I want to give my family a happy life and make them proud that their dad and husband does the right thing on a daily basis - that he is always striving to be the best in his field.

What is one fun fact about yourself ? I still play video games - most notably Call of Duty, with a squad of 26-yearolds! Are you working on any new projects or upcoming events? I’m actually opening an office in Montgomeryville, PA next year. I can’t wait to bring my little sister on board and get her started there. My mother helped me jump start my career by joining her practice, so I’m really happy to pay it forward. Where can the readers follow you?
