The Manor House TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Intuitive Homes & Ultamation The main objective for this property was to create the maximum possible system with the minimum amount of cables â&#x20AC;&#x201D; a challenge in itself seeing as it is a Grade II listed Queen Anne building. The client wanted to use the power and versatility of an integrated system to combine all their media, security, and lifestyle requirements. To achieve this, Intuitive Homes and Ultamation designed and installed a complete Crestron system on an enterprise-grade Wi-Fi network infrastructure for full control of the AV, security, CCTV, access control, and heating systems. The team also installed a new wireless Lutron lighting system, pushing the limits of what was possible with the new technologies available. The team installed two Future Automation mechanisms for the main two lounge TVs. In the informal lounge, the integrator wanted to make the most out of the view through the 3.2m Skyframe sliding doors, so installed a Future Automation PL lift into a beautiful Waney Edged cabinet. When not in use, the TV is hidden away and the client can enjoy the open space afforded by the huge glazed doors. A pre-programmed morning lighting scene is tied into the alarm feature on the Crestron touch panels and sees a 20-minute fade up of the lights coincide with the wakeup alarm. A global evening scene runs at sunset and checks if the lights are on in any room. If they are, the evening scene will trigger for that area. This TV bracket allows perfect viewing angles and for the TV to be moved away when not in use.

The judges were impressed with the many technical challenges that were well solved. 7

The client was clear about wanting a system that IS easy to use and design friendly.

Life Emotions The client was clear about wanting a system that is easy to use and design friendly. The Control4 system provides an intuitive interface that controls the alarm, intercom, lighting, HVAC, and AV. Life Emotions created a number of scenes, including sunrise, sunset, welcome, and away, which closes the blackout blinds, turns the lights off, puts the HVAC system on standby, switches all AV off, and arms the alarm. The client can manage all systems and open the door for guests from every touchscreen in the house. As requested in the brief, the client can also create their own scenes as well. Life Emotions utlised KNX to control blinds and shutters, lighting, underfloor heating, and alarms. To tick the box of the keypad finishes matching the interior design, the team installed Basalte Sentido switches with engraved symbols in a number of materials. Supporting the use of the Control4 app, Auro sensors were installed in the bathrooms, corridors, and stairs for lighting control. A 2N intercom with code lock was installed. This allows the client to open the gates without keys and to answer the call through their mobiles when they arenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t at home. Inside the property, the intercom can be used on the Control4 touch panels.

Ceiling speakers were specified to maintain the clean lines of the building design.

In the living room, Life Emotions installed in-wall front speakers and in-ceiling surround speakers. The subwoofer was installed in furniture that was designed with acoustic treatment. The living room opens out to the pool. When party mode is selected, the client can enjoy audio playing in both rooms. 11

With the sunken area of an old swimming pool remaining on the lower ground floor, NV Integration created a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;conversation pitâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; to provide the owners with a space to watch films.

Kensington Terrace TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

NV Integration This a large terrace house is spread over six floors and 5,000 sq. ft of space. With the house undergoing a full refurbishment, NV Integration was required to focus on audio and video distribution, integration control, security, lighting control, and networking, all within a limited budget. Control4 is the primary user interface, which controls the house using the iPad app and SR260 remotes. NV Integration implemented a Rako hybrid lighting control system, with the keypad links running on a wired connection, and the dimmers running wirelessly. With the sunken area of an old swimming pool remaining on the lower ground floor, NV Integration created a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;conversation pitâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; to provide the owners with a space to watch films. The team paired a 77" TV with a Leon Horizon LCR soundbar and Dolby 7.1 surround sound. All the visible speakers were spray painted and the subwoofer is hidden behind acoustically transparent cloth. In the basement gym, the team integrated a smart glass panel between the corridor and the glazed wall that looks into the gym, meaning that the user can work out in private. With all properties on the street being owned by the same property developer and having to keep identical frontage due to the buildings being listed, NV Integration was challenged to update the door entry system but not distract from the old system at the other houses. The integrator installed a BPT system that is very similar in appearance but now features video, app integration, and fresh cabling. 15

Intelligent Abodes The clients had a very clearly defined brief â&#x20AC;&#x201D; to deliver a well planned concept that provided integration, supporting automatic events that enhance convenience and comfort. They wanted their home to be an exemplar of contemporary design, finished with best in class materials, supporting living now and in the future, so it was truly a home for life. It was important that the lighting, both natural and generated was effectively controlled with changing daylight, assisting in managing the daily challenges of living with macular degeneration. As glare is one of the greatest challenges for visual clarity with macular degeneration, Intelligent Abodes worked closely with the lighting designer and the clients to design a lighting control solution that would adjust lighting lux levels and control glare with the automated blinds. This was managed with an RTI control solution, integrated with a weather station, so that the system intuitively responds to changing weather conditions. Consideration was given to every detail, including the keypad style and the RTI control interface to ensure visual clarity was optimised. The home management system was designed so that it is not over-crowded with information, allowing expansion and modification with changing needs.

Visual clarity was key.

The clients gave a great deal of thought as to what aspect of their home may become a challenge to manage later in life, so we included the potential to automate many aspects of their home, but more importantly they wanted to create a truly intuitive home that functions the majority of the time without the need to press a switch or button. It was a real joy and honour to work on this home, with clients that had well planned specific goals that we could help them realise. 19

Villa Africa TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Henri Henri collaborated with a famous interior designer on this project, where emphasis was placed on ensuring the technology seamlessly integrated into the architecture and did not take away from the African artwork that was placed around the villa. An all-round nicely executed project, Henri was forward-thinking in the system design. The villa now features easily controlled lighting, shades, and temperature, music in most rooms and in the garden, three media rooms, video distribution throughout, and a reliable security system consisting of door stations, a perimetric alarm, indoor and outdoor CCTV cameras, and biometric access control at sensitive spots. Close attention was paid to ensure that the technology was as discreet as possible, with profiled speakers, furnitureintegrated subwoofers, and specific finishing for biometric access to name a few examples. The owner is an audiophile and as such, requested very good audio quality. In addition to integrating a specific music server with MacIntosh amplification in one room, Henri sourced products for the rest of the villa that could be integrated in the interior decoration and deliver qualitative music at the same time.

With the objective of delivering intuitive control, Crestron wall-mounted touchscreens, remote controls for the video zones, iPads, and iPhone Apps were selected. The wall touchscreens were integrated in flush-mounted boxes, while the user interface was meticulously designed to be ergonomic and intuitive. Henri ensured the client is able to personalise certain aspects of the system. For example, he can adjust and create new lighting scenarios from the touchscreen. 23

Awicon Technologies As a family of four, the focus was on comfort, convenience, security, entertainment, and efficiency. Right from the beginning, the motto was clear — futureproof the cabling infrastructure for adopting new technologies in the future. With fibre being used throughout the entire home, Awicon Technologies planned for lighting control, audio, video, networking, security, and intercom. Awicon Technologies worked with lighting consultants to understand the internal and external lighting details to ensure the correct number of circuits were used to highlight the artwork, elevation, and the landscape. In total, the team integrated 288 lighting circuits with 82 blinds/curtains. The property features 25 distributed audio zones and eight video zones. The video was distributed over optical cable, making the house 8K ready. Awicon Technologies divided the outdoor area into two zones — the entertainment area, which features 16 speakers and three buried subwoofers, and the swimming pool area that includes eight speakers and one buried subwoofer. The indoor basement lounge required high performance audio to entertain family and friends. Keeping performance and aesthetics in mind, Awicon Technologies installed a K-array audio system and incorporated a large 16ft x 8ft active LED wall.

Awicon programmed the window sheers to allow the customer to enjoy the sunshine without any glare.

Due to large glass façade, lots of sunlight enters the home and causes unwanted glare at sunrise and sunset. Awicon Technologies used ‘Sun Path Analysis’ from open source websites to understand the azimuth and elevation angle of the sun across all seasons of the year, and programmed the window sheers accordingly to allow the customer to enjoy the sunshine without any glare. 27

The White House Mykonos TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Lifestyle Technologies The client was in the process of designing a luxury holiday villa on the island of Mykonos and engaged with Lifestyle Technologies to deliver a system that would include 5-star hotel-like features. The main objective was to include aspects that would resemble the famous Mykonos outdoor nightclubs, as the client would be hosting loud house parties with DJs and live bands. The interior design features modern touches that blend with the natural environment and breathtaking views, so the technology needed to work alongside this. Multiroom audio provides music throughout the property — both inside and out. Lifestyle Technologies integrated a true professional sound system, similar to ones installed at outdoor nightclubs in Mykonos. For the pro sound system, there are two different locations where a DJ or live band can connect their consoles and take over the system automatically. Lifestyle Technologies selected a Lutron HomeWorks QS lighting system with white Palladiom keypads. The discreet flat white Palladiom keypads don’t interfere with the interior design, while the engravings are extremely simple for anyone to understand. Occupancy sensors in the guest rooms are programmed in a similar way to guestroom occupancy sensors in hotels.

External lighting was a key component for this project.

Multiple astronomic timers are provided for the lighting controls. Pre-set scenarios include outdoor lighting to be activated 30 minutes after sunset, two hours after sunset, and from 2am until 30 minutes before sunrise. There is another astronomic timer for the non-summer months where lighting comes on two hours after sunset. These lighting scenes also enhance the architecture with changing façade looks. 33

M.E.G.A. AV Installations The client is familiar with home automation, thanks to having systems installed in previous properties, and now wanted to do it again in their new home. The main objective for M.E.G.A. AV Installations was to use the latest technology available to deliver a reliable and quality system within a set budget. The client requested high-quality music distribution both indoors and outdoors, video distribution to key areas, integration of Lutron lighting, shades, and curtains, CCTV cameras and alarms, heating, irrigation, and two entry gates on a single user interface page. The kitchen, master bed, drawing room, and guest suite feature Sonance Invisible speakers and in-wall subwoofers to not distract from the interior design. Loggia, which is a 12m long barn-like timber building that connects the new and old house was fitted with eight KEF Ci Series speakers with custom sprayed grilles to fit with the timber surroundings. Nearly 200 Lutron lighting circuits were installed in the property, with about a third of them dedicated to the outdoors. Various scenes are programmed throughout the house and garden. The outdoor lighting scenes are set to follow sunrise and sunset, and also trigger various evening scenes in the garden. The lighting is operated via a number of Lutron wall keypads, Control4 touch panels and remotes, and in most cases, via the clientâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mobile devices.

New Wave AV The system design was for a new build four-storey family property. The client’s main requirements were to have a system that allowed the family to enjoy both audio and video around the property with minimal equipment on show. In addition, they wanted a dedicated cinema room as well as a secondary bar projection system for more informal viewing. Having discussed the lighting design and window treatments with the interior designer, it was agreed that lighting and window treatment control would be specified in key rooms in the property. The client wanted a security system that proactively reacts to events rather than just records them after they have happened. Visualint cameras allowed New Wave AV to create specific rules and programme accordingly. Mockupancy automatically records whenever the alarm is not armed. When the alarm is set to ‘Away,’ the mockupancy playback is triggered, including lighting and window treatments. Silent Gliss window treatments were specified and supplied by the interior designer. Integration into Control4 allows these to be triggered via a lighting keypad for ease of control. In the bar, they are automated to shut when the projector is turned on.

TwentyTwo Integration The client wanted a system that automated as much as possible, but it needed to be cutting-edge and utilise the very latest equipment and design methodology. The objective was for a Control4 and Lutron system that includes lighting, automated blinds, automated privacy glass, motorised windows, heating and cooling, lift entry, CCTV, and alarm systems. The apartment is very design led, so the equipment that TwentyTwo Integration specified was not only functional and in line with the end user’s expectations, but it also complements the interior design, which is very modern and minimalist. The client needed the system to be easy to use and intuitive as it is not his main residence, so there will be long periods of time between visits. By using Lutron Palladiom keypads with large engraved buttons, control of the system is very easy and doesn’t require the client to remember how to use it between visits.

Intelligent glazing was installed and includes privacy glass and motorised windows, blinds, and curtain treatments.

At a single button push, the client can change the state of the 40+ panels of glass from ‘privacy’ to ‘none privacy.’ Furthermore, the Lutron window treatments can track the sun and intelligently adapt and close to better control internal temperatures and protect the furniture and finishes from prolonged sun exposure. 45

SONA Having worked with this client previously, SONA had a clear understanding of the standard from the get-go. The simplicity of operating the system was highlighted as a key consideration, with specific requests for visible controls around the home to be as discreet and intuitive as possible. SONA has worked to install an integrated lighting system with over 250 circuits, motorised window treatments for large floor to ceiling glazing in most rooms, a high performance AV system, a statement loudspeaker system for the main lounge, two focussed media spaces, and intuitive control. A comprehensive cable infrastructure ensures the property is as future-ready as possible. The property features a large number of motorised blind and curtain systems in all rooms. SONA worked hand-inhand with the main contractor to develop an approach where all blinds were installed in recessed sections of the ceilings, with colour matched cover plates. Where the curtain tracks were fitted into plaster-in profiles, the track sits completely flush with the ceiling finish. Even though the blinds and curtains cover extremely large windows, you don’t notice the blinds or tracks themselves.

An amazing ‘dancing’ water feature on the main patio area is also controlled — sixteen outlets with custom programming, so the client can select feature sequences. The entire property features underfloor heating control, with towel radiator circuits in the en-suite bathrooms. To maintain the desired aesthetic throughout, SONA provided a system using in-floor and very discreet flush in-wall temperature sensors, reporting back to central thermostats and manifold controllers. 49

Perfect Integration The pool area features 10 Amina speakers plastered into the perimeter bulkhead and a subwoofer hidden discreetly behind the acoustic slatted wooden panelling. The speakers and sub in the garden and terrace areas are hidden completely in the landscaping and flower beds. These zones can be controlled independently, or easily linked together with the pool area, which features a waterproof TV on a pull-out wall bracket. The video distribution system incorporates a 4K Multiviewer, which allows all screens to be turned into a virtual video wall. This is used regularly in the fitness suite and in the kitchen on a Samsung Frame TV, where it displays Sky and CCTV simultaneously. Being a large property with numerous keypads and touch panels, Perfect Integration programmed the lighting system with ‘shared’ scenes, meaning that when the client adjusts his ‘entertain’ scene, the updated scene is then deployed to all applicable keypads and touch panels. The finish of the various Lutron Palladiom keypads was chosen to complement the décor of each room. Tuneable white Occhio pendant lights were installed in the office for circadian lighting. The client can choose a white ‘colour temperature’ or a daylight simulation mode, which enables him to artificially ‘lengthen’ the days in winter.

The motorised window treatment — which has over 60 shades, most of them being unique — utilises Lutron Sivoia QS horizontal tensioned roller blinds, Palladiom QS rollers, Roman blinds, custom length pockets, custom poles from two fabricators, standard rollers, and custom rollers with a bevelled corner. 53

The client tasked the team with combining two existing apartments set ON the third and fourth floors of one of London’s most prestigious garden squares.

NV Integration’s brief was to wow in a cool, nonostentatious, but decidedly show-stopping way. The client tasked the team with combining two existing apartments set on the third and fourth floors of one of London’s most prestigious garden squares. Working closely with top London architects and designers, the project carved out a new penthouse comprising 5 en-suite bedrooms, reception and dining rooms, a chef’s kitchen, media room, and two technology-fuelled terraces that look towards London’s cityscape. The CCTV system is covert, meaning the internal cameras look like PIR sensors from the intruder alarm, but they are actually pinhole cameras. They include the motion detected red light to keep up the charade. NV Integration supplied cameras for the building exterior and lobby, which are available to view in the apartments. Crestron is the primary user interface, which controls the house using an iPad app and TSW in-wall touch panels. Via a specialist sub-contractor, the team integrated £64,574 worth of motorised soft furnishings, with multiple treatments at most windows. This included the open/close and blind integration of Velux rooflights, and control of 1m x 2m skylight wired blinds. The apartment includes four surround sound zones — two basic Sonos systems with playbar and PLAY:1 surrounds and sub, one for the TV room that includes an 85” 4K TV and B&W CI700 series speakers, and another on the rooftop, which features a high-bright TV from Seura that can be seen very clearly in direct sunlight, B&W AM-1 weatherproof monitors for the five satellite channels, and two Polk outdoor passive subs. 57

Sound Sense Sound Sense took charge of the entire project from commencement to completion, including project blueprinting, interior design, integration, installation, and client handover. The client — a busy workaholic who spends every waking moment at the office — wanted Sound Sense to design an ‘escape from reality’ cinema room adjacent to his office. He requested a unique, discreet, world-class home cinema with a large screen and a seating capacity for 5-7 people. Due to the cinema room being located next to the office, noise isolation was a top priority for Sound Sense. To help the client understand the importance of acoustics both in and out of the room, the integrator provided him with a VR experience of the room set up. This allowed the team to explain how sound will be heard with and without acoustic treatment. It also provided the opportunity for him to experience varying screen sizes and resulted in him opting for a larger screen. The client wanted to have various ambient lighting scenarios to set the tone of the room based on his mood. Sound Sense customised the required solutions with diffused RGB lighting. As the colour of the lights shift, the tone of the room changes.

Sound Sense provided the client with a VR experience of the room to help him understand acoustics and screen size.

Working within a stringent timeline of 2 to 2 ½ months, Sound Sense delivered an immersive 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos cinema room that is stunning to look at and hits the key points on the client brief — the best AV experience possible, mood lighting, room ventilation, acoustically sound, and control via one single device. 61

Heart of the Homestead TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

New Wave AV This cinema room was part of a whole house system. New Wave AV designed a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos speaker system, with the surround sound and rear speakers installed behind a cut out in the wall panels, and the two subwoofers were placed behind the acoustically transparent screen. New Wave AV supplied the acoustic panels for the cinema room, and this required detailed drawings to be prepared as a 20mm tolerance between the skirting, ceiling, and other panels had been specified by the interior designer. The panelling had to be cut out for both the speakers and the concealed AC unit, and the shape had to be designed to work around the door, raised seating area, and the projector enclosure. Due to the width of the room, the requested screen size wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t achievable. With the client now wanting a 2:40:1 ratio screen, New Wave AV sourced a micro bezel screen that gave enough additional visible screen height to make the vertical shift on the projector work. With the interior designer wanting the projector to be in a housing, but there being no budget for a hushbox with extraction, a wooden enclosure was designed with the recommended height for airspace as well as vents on the front. Cyberhomes Cyberhomes’ challenge for this job was to create the wow factor in a comfortable and relaxing environment that is visually different from other cinema rooms. Challenge accepted. With the room to be used for both movie watching and game playing, the AV had to be fully immersive for all seating positions. The husband and wife duo love future technology and have a passion for supercars, so they wanted this incorporated within the design, but for the style to be both masculine and feminine. A Dolby 7.4.4 set up was installed alongside a Sony 4K laser projector — which is located in a bespoke housing — and an electric side masking 2:40:1 acoustically transparent screen. Cyberhomes used futuristic looking acoustic treatments to tick the wow factor box, whilst also addressing first order reflections and room mode issues. For the desired masculine and feminine feel, a common theme of curves and angles were adopted, adding balance and symmetry combined with neutral colours for a hint of warmth. Ambient blue lighting was added to give the 3D structures a strong dynamic look, with contrasting warm white to soften and balance the room. As well as the aesthetic appeal, safety was also important. Cyberhomes incorporated large steps, highlighted by LED strips and downlights with emergency lighting to cater for servicing and a clear exit strategy.

Clarke Infinity The couple required a home cinema that resembled a professional theatre with enough space for 13 people, where they could indulge in their love of music, movies, sport, and entertaining. The Clarke team delivered the entire project from planning and design through to the installation and programming. To accommodate 3 rows of seats, the room needed high ceilings and the old orangery was removed and the house extended. The team created a 1m-deep projection room at the rear of the space, with sound-proof walls, to house the projector, AV and control equipment. The team used acoustic modelling during the design stages which allowed a full treatment plan to be devised and implemented. Every element of the design was considered, from heavy access doors with noise control seals, to the creation of a sound lock corridor, preventing the sound from travelling beyond the room, and more. A key feature of the project is the Barrisol Clim ceiling; the first of its kind in the UK, the perforated stretched fabric evenly distributes the air, ensuring the ceiling becomes a diffuser for any sound coming from the air conditioning — as well as keeping unsightly equipment out of view. Clarke installed stunning Planar Magnetic Line Source Cinema speakers by Wisdom Audio. The line source technology reduces floor and ceiling projection giving more even sound levels across all seats, less volume reduction over distance and a greater shared audience experience. The result is amazing clarity of sound. The easy to-use touch screen control panels were all preprogrammed and the stunning furniture, sleek skirting lighting and Paul Karslake artwork create a beautiful, lasting aesthetic.

Extra bar seating was provided for more casual viewing.

The client commented, “The end result has blown me away — just wonderful. We have been thoroughly impressed by the work of Clarke Infinity; they really care about every single detail. I am enjoying all our old movies again, along with the new ones. The quality of sound is more impressive than we could have imagined. The cinema is easily our favourite room of the new house.” 73

Cinematic Excellence TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Perfect Integration The room’s primary purpose is a family home cinema, but it also needed to be impressive enough to host film industry guests on occasion. Being the family’s ‘forever’ home, the cinema had to be timeless in its design and have the performance to bring smiles for many years. Perfect Integration was responsible for the technical design, aesthetics, and lighting design. Focussing on a warmer colour palette, Perfect Integration utilised deep navy blue materials alongside American black walnut. These base colours created a refined and contemporary feel, whilst the raw brass grills, nail heads, wall lights, keypad, and handle details hinted a more classical styling. A subtle grey piping was used on the seats, while the ceiling features a mid-grey fabric to hide the acoustic-treatments and speakers, and a matte grey bulkhead eliminates screen reflections and reduces contrast lost during brighter scenes. Ralph Lauren glass and brass wall lights provide a subtle ambient glow and enhance the stud details on the fabric wall panels. Narrow beam pin spots highlight the brass mesh in the wall panels and hidden linear LED lights provide a ‘halo’ around the screen.

The wall lights, keypad, and handle details create a more classical styling.

The audio system comprises of 11 speakers in a 9-channel configuration, with six JBL Atmos channels and four subwoofers. The Barco Loki Cinemascope projector is installed vertically, firing at a DT Screens mirror through a porthole in the joinery. It is located in a sealed, acoustic enclosure within the build-up of the rear wall to provide almost complete acoustic isolation with no aesthetic impact on the room. 77

Retro Media Room TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

M.E.G.A. AV Installation This project presented a number of challenges to M.E.G.A. AV Installations, with the room featuring exposed stone walls, a full glass wall, and last-minute changes to the planned TV and shelving design. The integrator took these challenges on and created a spacious media room that delivers a 7.2 set-up, featuring Triad speakers, a Denon amp, a Screen Excellence 100" 16.9 motorised screen, and a Sony 4K projector that was recessed into the back wall. Due to the stone wall to the left and glass wall to the right, as well as the front wall being used for an art display, the integrator had to place all the speakers and subwoofers in the ceiling, together with a number of various diffuser and absorption panels. M.E.G.A. AV Installations dropped the ceiling around the coffer opening to allow enough space at the sides and the front to position the equipment and panels. To compensate for the lack of behind-the-screen speakers, M.E.G.A. AV Installations installed Triad Bronze in-ceiling speakers, which are angled towards the seating. The room is controlled via a Control4 remote that triggers a series of macros. With a press of a button, the lights go down 80%, the curtains close, the projector turns on, the screen drops down, and the AV amp turns on. Upon selecting video source, the lights turn off completely. The judges could tell that this integrator knew what they wanted to achieve from the start and delivered an excellent space. 81

The Ultimate Gaming Room TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Intuitive Homes & Ultamation The focus was to design the ultimate gaming set-up and create something that every teenager dreams of. The client already knew that there would be a pool table, table football, and pinball machines in the room. They brought Intuitive Homes & Ultamation in to see what else was possible as their sons are both avid gamers and would enjoy the opportunity to play alongside each other â&#x20AC;&#x201D; and their friends â&#x20AC;&#x201D; in the same room. Intuitive Homes & Ultamation decided that by using one screen and bringing in the distributed video system from the main house, it would be possible for multiple users to game at one time, as well as for one person to be watching TV on one half and someone gaming on the other half. The team integrated many other technologies into this room. They expanded the Lutron lighting control from the main house with an additional panel containing 16 circuits and 4 new keypads. On the one side of the extension is floor-to-ceiling glazing with very thin profiles, so five large Lutron blinds, which are staggered in the ceiling recess to create overlap and no light gaps, were installed. There are a pair of speakers over the pool table and table football, a pair over the bar area, and a third pair over the seating area to allow for a 5.1 system. The team used a bespoke soundbar for the TV, which looks great, due to the custom width and details, such as the cut-out for the protruding section on the bottom of the TV. 85

Tera Generation Solutions The objective for this project was to deliver a lifestyle AV lounge for a discerning technology enthusiast with distinct, unique, and refined taste. The primary focus for Tera Generation Solutions was to deliver an open concept living space that would reflect the individual needs and lifestyle of the client, and feature a system that is efficient, practical, and easy to control. Tera Generation Solutions took on the challenge of delivering a design that met the client’s ‘wish list’ by incorporating sophisticated technology solutions. The hardcore board game enthusiast and tech savvy client demanded a collaborative solution that brings his gaming, communication, monitoring, and smart home controls into one single interface. Tera Generation Solutions installed a custom-built coffee table with a fully interactive 43" screen. The front and rear walls of the room are glass to allow the client to overlook the surrounding landscape. This presented a challenge to the integrator. To overcome this, Tera Generation Solutions installed in-ceiling retractable side surround speakers. To avoid issues with bass due to the dynamics of the space, designer-grade subwoofers in a concrete finish were installed. With the client due to get married during the project, the minimal design concept was shifted to a neo-classical interior. Large mirrors became an integral part of the design, which created an acoustical and visual reflection challenge for Tera Generation Solutions. The client wanted a discreet bar at the back of the room, so the integrator designed a large sliding panel to conceal the bar when it is not in use. 89

Loft Luxury TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Perfect Integration Perfect Integration has delivered a modern media room in the attic of their client’s forever home. The large room (8.5m x 6m) features a low ceiling, sloping walls, a large skylight, and bedrooms below. With it needing to fit 8 people, the integrator had to flip the room around to fit in enough seats and a bar area at the back. As the room was going to be used for movie nights and sporting events, the team specified a projector with 6000 lumens and provided two calibration settings to match the needs of the two different viewing setups. Perfect Integration opted for Paradigm speakers and subwoofers to achieve a 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos system. Having constructed new inner walls, the speakers were able to be installed in the perfect positions for the ‘money seat.’ For the bar area, Perfect Integration designed the space, chose the door material (American black walnut), and sourced the marble counter tops. The team selected the quietest drinks fridges and dishwasher they could find. With the client liking the look of Ralph Lauren wall lights, but these being out of the budget, Perfect Integration found a lighting manufacturer in the UK that makes very similar lights for a fraction of the cost and installed these within the room. Working closely with Starscape to source the best acoustically transparent fabric, Perfect Integration installed a fibre optic starlight ceiling that gives the illusion of being under the stars and not in a low-ceiling attic. 93

Spring Ponds TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATOR

Prestige Audio This media room is located in the basement of an 850sq.m new build property, alongside a wine tasting room, games room, and utility area. With the client having a love of music and an appreciation for good sound quality, getting the audio right was extremely important. All the AV had to be hidden, so the integrator designed everything from scratch to allow them to integrate the speakers fully into the fabric of the room, without compromising on performance. With the client planning to use the room for both movies and music and wanting a very punchy, strong bass presence in playback, Prestige Audio installed a Dolby Atmos surround sound system in a 7.1.4 configuration. The original design for the cinema included fixtures and fittings made from white marble. Prestige Audio persuaded the client that not only would the room look better with a darker design, but that it would allow the room to perform better. Time was spent with the client and the team came up with a ‘moodier’ classic cinema room aesthetic. Prestige Audio also replaced the requested ‘clean-white’ ceiling that would create reflective issues with a starscape ceiling and acoustic treatments to alleviate this issue. The client commented: “Our integrator designed a bespoke cinema that would meet our needs. They worked well with our interior designer to deliver something that would perform well and met our design needs. Now that we have moved in, the results are impressive. Our cinema is epic and outperforms our expectations.” 97

The judges commented that it is “a business card for what our industry does.” As these apartments are located in a prime location, with the larger units having a target sale price of circa £10m, the integrated technology spec had to tick all boxes, but with a keen eye on value for money. Knowing that the eventual buyers could have different requirements, the developer requested the basebuild systems to be fully integrated at day one, with all apartments prepared for easy day two upgrades of the AV systems and motorised window treatments. The luxury interiors and period styling meant that invisible speakers were an obvious choice. Sonance speakers were fitted in the main living areas, kitchens, dining rooms, and master bedrooms. Secondary bedrooms and bathrooms had conventional Sonance ceiling speakers installed. Perfect Integration installed a Lutron HomeWorks lighting and shading control system, with engraved SeeTouch keypads in custom bronze. The landlord/communal areas are fitted with a Crestron DALI lighting control system, with PIRs that detect lux levels as well as motion, ensuring energy efficient lighting in all communal areas, with a luxurious ‘soft fade’ when the lights switch on. Using a KNX building management system, Perfect Integration delivered a Crestron-based PC control panel for the concierge that displays the current status of the centralised plant system, along with alarm notifications and fault triggers. Faults are also emailed to the building management company to ensure that they are dealt with immediately when the concierge is unavailable. 101
