Paramount+ Series ‘Lioness’ Filming in Mallorca

Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira and Zoe Saldaña have all been spotted filming their latest TV project, ‘Lioness’ in Mallorca over the past month and are set to be here until at least the end of March. Here we find out a bit more about the stars and the series…

Mallorca is no stranger to a famous face or two, especially in the summer months when our bays are peppered with superyachts, sailing the rich and glamorous from port to port. In recent years, the island has become a popular filming location for several highgrossing movies and TV shows including The Night Manager, The Crown, Adam Sandler’s ‘Hustle’, White Lines, and ‘The Hustle’ with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. And now the island can add another credit to its ever-expanding list with the filming of the TV show ‘Lioness’ for Paramount+.

Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman and Zoe Saldaña have all been on the island over the last month filming their new upcoming spy thriller, Lioness which is due to be released later in 2023 on Paramount+. The stars have been spotted out and about around the island, mingling with the locals, dining in some well-known restaurants and filming in the capital and have been sharing updates with their followers via social media.

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman has been exploring the towns of Soller, Valldemossa and Deia and has shared some stunning shots of the island as well as several shots on board a boat where she is seen admiring the stunning coastline. She captioned these images with “I love Mallorca” and we can only assume she means it as there are several pictures of the talented actress looking very happy to be here. Nicole will star as CIA agent Kaitlyn Meade in the upcoming series

as well as working as Executive Producer and is expected to continue filming on the island until the end of March.

Morgan Freeman, the man with the most distinctive voice in Hollywood joins Kidman on the island and has notably spent a lot of time partaking in the fine Italian cuisine that the island has to offer. With more than four visits to Sandro’s restaurant in Palma where the Oscar winner posed for photos with the owner and another visit to El Alpendre on Calle Blanquerna for a monster pizza. Freeman will play United States Secretary, Edwin Mullins in Lioness and has been spotted in costume in various locations around Palma and the rest of

the island. Joining these two Hollywood legends is Zoe Saldaña, a legend in her own right thanks to her roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and, of course, the epic Avatar. This successful actress has starred in four of the six highest-grossing films of all time. Saldaña has been spotted on the island with her family as it seems that she has used her filming on the island as an opportunity to have a family holiday. Zoe will star as Joe, the Station Chief of the Lioness program and has been seen in full tactical gear wielding a rifle and emerging from the sea. Saldaña is also working with Nicole Kidman as an Executive Producer on the series. “I’m looking forward to just meeting the cast, from Nicole to Laysla and the rest of the cast,” Saldaña told People in an interview for her Netflix series ‘From Scratch’. “I feel like this is going to be just as challenging [as ‘From Scratch’], just as emotionally compromising, but in its own unique way.”

Starring in the series is Canadian actress Laysla De Oliveira who has been enjoying her time on the island with her fellow actor boyfriend, Jonathan Keltz. The couple has been seen out for an early morning walk from the hotel that they are staying in on Paseo Maritimo in Palma. The couple has managed to remain relatively incognito during their stay and has shared photos on their social media in front of the Cathedral, the gardens of s’Hort del Rei, the Born, Jaume III and Santa Catalina, and when stopping

for lunch at the restaurant La Lianta. Laysla plays Cruz Manuelos in Lioness, a young Marine who has been recruited by the CIA to join the Lioness Engagement team and help take down a terrorist organization from the inside.

Lioness is a political spy thriller created by Taylor Sheridan, well-known for creating the popular TV series Yellowstone, about a young Marine, played by Laysla De Oliveira, who is recruited by the CIA to become friends with the daughter of a wanted terrorist. The operation, named the Lioness Program, is intended to bring down the terrorist organisation from within. Zoe Saldaña’s character is in charge of training and leading the female operatives of the Lioness Program while Nicole Kidman’s character oversees the operation as CIA Senior Supervisor Kaitlyn Meade who is known within her ranks for surviving the political game and playing to her strengths and others’ weaknesses. Morgan Freeman was one of the last to join the cast and plays US Secretary of State Edwin Mullin although quite what his involvement is in the plot is yet to be announced. Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, will also guest-star as Kamal and all we know at this point is that he is credited to be a serial womaniser.

The series is set to be hugely popular when it is released and in the meantime, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one of these Hollywood Stars around Palma or the rest of the island until they leave at the end of March.

CELEBRITY’S SHOWBIZ ROUNDUP

PRINCE HARRY’S VIRGINITY

After his controversial memoir, Spare, made headlines around the world, people were keen to find out who it was that deflowered the 16-year-old Prince “like a young stallion” in a field and “ smacked his rump and sent him off to graze”. Well, Sasha Walpole has been unmasked as the ‘lucky’ lady after 21 years of remaining anonymous. Headline news around the globe for several days, it is possible that he is now regretting including this piece of his life story in the book.

HARRY STYLES CLEANS UP AT THE GRAMMYS

Harry Styles can’t put a foot wrong at the moment with a string of successful singles soaring up the charts, two, albeit controversial movies out and his face staring out from every magazine cover around the world. This year’s Grammys were the icing on the cake for this young star who not only scooped the Best Pop Vocal Album prize but also won the top prize for Album of the Year. He won against some serious competition including Adele, Lizzo, and Beyonce and all while wearing some statement, gender-neutral outfits that only he can pull off.

JEREMY RENNER ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

News broke earlier this year that Marvel star, Jeremy Renner had been involved in a horrific accident involving a snowplough but that he was in a “stable condition”. Since the accident, Renner has posted a series of Instagram stories thanking his fans for their support and the

medical professionals for the treatment that he is receiving. After breaking more than 30 bones in his body, Renner announced in early February that he is now continuing gruelling physical therapy from the comfort of his home.

RIHANNA WOWS AT SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW

Pop superstar Rihanna wowed as the performing artist at this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. The hugely successful, youngest selfmade billionaire brought a few surprise guests along with her for the show and her performance was as energetic as ever and well received by her fans after several years out of the spotlight. Rihanna followed in the footsteps of The Weeknd, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Prince and Madonna who have all previously performed this prestigious slot in American sport. The 2023 SuperBowl was a hard fought affair with Kansas City Chiefs winning 38-35 thanks to an heroic performance by their injured quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

The perfect place for a little staycation, with its mix of contemporary and classic décor, enchanting courtyards, and a to-die-for outdoor temporized pool and garden. A stroll through the old streets of Palma was a must before heading back to the hotel for dinner. And what a dinner it was! The fine dining experience was nothing short of magnificent, with a plant-based menu that you can add your favourite meat or fish to. The organic selection was simply bursting with authentic flavours. And before turning in for the night, we highly recommend

stopping by the bar for a cocktail. The highly trained bar staff offered a wide selection of delicious options to choose from.

Then there’s the grand suite! A bed so comfortable, you can change the firmness of the mattress to suit your needs. And what a start to the next day! THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE CONTROVERSIAL IN FASHION AND LIFESTYLE

/amandazipsitup

Amanda Zips It Up brings together some of Amanda’s experiences, observations, travels and fashion likes and dislikes. Thankfully, containing more “likes” than the “dis” variety.

Amanda spends her time in London, Mallorca and Ibiza researching fashion from every angle. Zips It Up is a part tongue-in-cheek, part brutally honest look at this world that she inhabits. From the Fashion Week catwalks of London, New York, Paris and Milan to the backstreet boho boutiques of Palma and the Balearic beaches of Ibiza, it’s all here. Enjoy.

SCI-FI SPRING FASHION 2023

From dune-inspo to dystopian, the future of fashion is looking remarkably futuristic.

Sci-fi-inspired looks are expected to hit sky-high this spring, as demand rises among Gen-Z and Millennials. An increase in searches for ‘dystopian outfits’, avant-garde costumes, cyber streetwear and mirrored visor glasses, plus a rise in interest in the ‘gamer girl look’, has dominated the internet recently.

We all know that anything and everything Y2K is the 2023 trend, and the Y2K era also delivered its own heavy futuristic and dystopian themes – if you’re old enough to remember.

2023 is witnessing a similar lean towards dystopian fashion but in a much harder, darker and slightly more futuristic way. This trend reflects society now - where many feel unsure and not too optimistic about their own future. Dystopian fashion has a rebellious, punk feel to it. While its name sounds a tad depressing, you can actually have a lot of fun with it.

It’s all about helmets, capes, and chunky space boots. The mustwear print will feature ‘a galaxy of stars and planets’ and I’ve already seen cropped jackets and leather-style opera gloves at Zara.

Towards the end of 2022, we witnessed an increase in pleather trousers, long Matrix-style trench coats and maxi dresses. As well as pleather, we are also seeing harness belts increasing in popularity. A harness belt is a great way to cinch in the waist and add a little more edginess to a midi dress.

Here are a few ideas of what’s to come and how you can wear a little dystopian fashion in 2023. Look for more inspiration at www.Dior.com , www.asos.com and www.manieredevoir.com.

The last time I spoke to Martin and Hanna Kinsella they told me about how the last year had been for them and what their plans were for 2023. Not a couple to sit around and wait for things to happen, it seems that they hit the ground running on January 1st and have no plans to slow down…

Take a look at Martin and Hanna Kinsella’s social media and you will see that they have been busy with family life with cute pictures of Max and Kimia taking centre stage on both of their profiles. Martin started our conversation with an update on both of the kids and told me that Max is excited for his second birthday party which is themed around his favourite superhero, the one and only Spiderman, meaning that we are likely to see Mr Kinsella himself in some form of costume! Kimia is growing up quickly and is content and happy and following her big brother around and keeping mum and dad awake at night as only a little princess can. Both of the kids are keeping Martin and Hanna busy but they are enjoying every moment of parenthood even if it does mean sacrificing those wild nights out prechildren. Homelife is slightly different at the moment as Hanna is currently filming the next series of The Real Housewives of Cheshire for ITV. This series promises to be as glamorous as ever with added drama and two new housewives that will be revealed very soon. Hanna has really enjoyed filming this series as it gives her a little bit of independence and obviously she was pregnant for the last series which was more challenging for her.

“I’ve really enjoyed this series”, she tells me. “I miss the kids when I’m filming out of the house but I also have some time to myself which any new mum knows is hard to find!”

Some of our readers may have seen that

Martin was recently in Mallorca to see his patients at his clinic in Santa Ponsa. He told me that he and the family plan to spend a lot more time on the island this year, seeing his patients monthly but also working on their new property. The couple bought a plot of land last year, and once planning permission and permits are granted by the local town hall, will break ground on their future home on the island.

“We are so excited to get started with the project in Mallorca. We know that we want to spend more time on the island and this project just excites us, even the nightmare with the paperwork is exciting as it is one step closer to the finished product!” Martin tells me. The Real Housewives of Cheshire will also be following the progress of their construction project so be sure to tune in to see how it all goes. Aside from the TV series and construction project, the Kinsella empire continues to grow with all of their projects thriving in their own right.

Martin has been working hard in his clinics in the UK and Mallorca while running his successful hormone clinic online with more than 300 patients on the books and an estimated 1000 patients by the end of the year. “We can’t quite believe how much the hormone clinic has grown. We are helping so many people with hormone treatments and nutrition advice and we are expanding to accommodate the demand. We will be expanding to Europe later this year.”

Hanna and Martin have also been working

hard on their Icy Bear dental range which has gone from strength to strength since the launch of her whitening kit. This year, the brand will be launching Icy Bear Cubs - the first line of children’s dental products. This line is aimed at educating kids on the best ways to look after their kids with an app being launched simultaneously for parents and kids to use to encourage dental hygiene from a young age.

The Kinsella’s other business, Dr Kinsella skincare is also doing well with orders coming from all over the world. The exciting news with this product is that the range will be available to buy on QVC from March which will help it to reach even more people. 2023 looks set to be another epic year for this power couple that seems incapable of stopping yet hungry to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.

The new series of The Real Housewives of Cheshire will be airing later on in the year on ITVBe and ITV X. Martin’s clinic, ReEnhance Medicina Asthetica is located on Avenida del Rey Jaime I, 108 in Santa Ponsa and enquiries and appointments can be made by contacting info@re-enhance.com. film, and I find something in that. I’ll make a note of it and what the time stamp on the film is and see if I can loop that or something like that. I’m not classically trained by any means. I can rudimentarily play the piano. And I know the keys but I’m not a musician, per se. But I can find inspiration from pretty much anything.

KJ:

KJ:

Amazing! You also won Best Ibiza DJ at the DJ Awards?

MD:

you need to outsource some inspiration to reconnect with everything.

MD:

Hey, Chris thank you for being here with me. It’s great to have some time to catch up with you. First things first, are there any upcoming projects where we can see and hear you?

MD:

I’ve got a weekly Monday project with Lío. That’s Pacha’s sister venue here in Ibiza. I’ll be the resident DJ there and also be curating. So I’ll be bringing in a few other DJs. And I’ll also be doing regular main room duties at Pacha every week. And then I’ve got lots of releases coming out over the next few months.

KJ:

Great! And are there any labels, in particular, we should keep an eye out for?

MD:

I’ve got a remix out in March on the Swiss label called Boogie Butt records. They’re specifically just vinyl. And I did a house remix of a classic disco track called ‘Thank You’ by Ian Ash. Also, I’ve got a funk 45s via another vinyl release on 45 coming out in April. That’s just sold out in Japan. So that’s gonna have to be repressed. Yeah, then lots on the boil…lots. I’ve done a house boogie remix for the Freestylers. It’s out in the summer. And then I’ve done a lot of hip-hop productions as well. That’s coming out with a great label called Jalapeño which is also out in the summer. On the B-side, we’ve got a really good funk track. That’s all live instrumentation. So yeah, just kind of pushing the musical boundaries in quite a few directions, trying to at least.

KJ:

Wonderful. I’m super excited to hear everything! I really loved Ghost Answer. Since you go in so many musical directions, how do you stay faithful to your musical inspirations and to your unique sound as it can be quite easy to go down a more “commercial” route?

MD:

I must be honest, my origins were originally 4/4 dance music. I first started clubbing when I was 15 in the UK, which was to jungle and rave music. Then, as I got older I got started DJing house and garage and then went into the roots and I kind of stayed with those roots like funk, soul and hip hop for many years. And I found myself going back into house music and particularly the US house sound and disco, but also trying to keep that funk and soul bass in that music as well. But there’ve been many opportunities that I could have gone into maybe a more commercial sound, or a harder sound. But if

I can’t dance to my own music, then I don’t really want to play it. I still try to cater for the crowd as much as possible while sticking to my own musical guns. Nowadays it’s easier than ever to find good music. There’s a lot of bad music, but there’s also a lot more good music, and it’s a lot more easily accessible than before. So I think sticking close to whatever your musical outlook, it is easier now than it ever has been. I kind of pride myself in being able to play the music that people think they’ve heard before, but haven’t. I try and play accessible without being commercial if that makes sense.

KJ:

You are definitely a DJ’s DJ. We are really listening to you because you have so much more to say than what we’re typically exposed to…

MD:

That’s it. I’d like to think I help to educate people who listen to me but without isolating them.

KJ:

I’m actually quite curious about your studio process. Do you have a certain routine? Or is it really inspiration based?

MD:

Yeah, is very inspirational based. I don’t think I’m unique in the way I do things when it comes to my thought process. In production, I’ll come up with ideas in the old-school and hip-hop way where I’ll find a hook and a loop first. Whether that be robbed from someone else or not. But I take a lot of my inspiration from things like watching TV or watching a

It really sounds like you’re musically trained.

MD:

I think from DJing for so many years, I’ve just got the ear for what works. I don’t really let musical genres confine me so I’d like to think I could make anything from reggae to hip-hop to house to disco.

KJ:

Definitely an interesting variety of sound! So what’s your Ibiza story? Because you’ve been there a long time now…

MD:

Yeah, I first came to Ibiza on my first holiday away from home with a typical bunch of British lads to San Antonio in 1996 to just party I guess. As I said before, we were into rave music, into jungle and into hard house and then house music. We came over for two weeks and I just fell in love with the place. After that initial holiday, I came on holiday twice the next year. And then I ended up doing a short season. Then my seasons got longer and got to the point where I wanted to be here full-time. I was working as an archaeologist and so that was kind of my career path. I was always fascinated with music and always loved it and was always DJing in the clubs in the bars. And then the music took hold and started taking up as much time, if not more time, than the archaeology. Unfortunately, archaeologists anywhere in the world don’t really make any money. It’s unfortunate, but that’s just the way it is. My first DJ gig on the island was in 2002 I think. That was at Ancient People in Playa d’en Bossa, I had a residency there. I also played a few other spots on the island and it just became more and more spots over time. Then I got my first gig at Space in 2005 along with Pacha the same year. And well, nearly 30 years I’ve been here and over 17 years of DJing here on the island.

I did. Yeah, the ceremony was the morning of this final Space closing - It was the same day. I had just finished DJing on the sunset terrace with Paul Reynolds. And I was emotional, to say the least. That was a big, big day. It was very nice to be recognised by my peers.

KJ: Congratulations, also, on being a new dad. How do you maintain a good work-life balance these days in such a demanding industry?

MD:

I’m still trying to find that. It’s definitely difficult. I had the busiest year of my life in 2022 work-wise. I was on 70 flights or even more… can’t remember. I won’t be able to do that this year with my son being born in November. So I’m taking a step back, I’m not going to be working as much because I do want to be present in my child’s upbringing. I’m gonna be a bit more picky. As I mentioned, I’m still working with my Pacha crew and with Lío. Then when it comes to the off-island gigs - that’s the thing - I strive to be not just an Ibiza DJ if that makes sense. Nothing against that but you can kind of be pigeonholed into that’s just what you do. And that’s why I’ve tried to really produce a lot of music across the board musically so that I’m not just regarded as an Ibiza DJ. I’ve really tried to at least get off the island, not just for my career and for how it looks, but also for my sanity. There’s so much out there musically and so many different crowds and different energy. Leaving the island is goodit gives me more energy on the island. I like to see what’s working and to see and feel the crowds and the vibe in a different city or a different location or a different festival and this helps keep perspective on the island.

KJ:

Absolutely. I mean, I guess a lot of the clubs here depend on their guest DJs to do that, obviously, because a lot of the DJs have come from different parts of the world. But as a resident here myself, I think this is important for me to do that as well. And a lot of the DJs on the island are as good as if not better than some of the guests who come in. That needs to be recognised and we need to put more effort into keeping it that way.

KJ:

I love having these conversations with you because your perspective is very distinct compared to other working DJs around the world. It’s important, as you said, to highlight what makes Ibiza DJs special. And yeah, in the whole scheme of things, because we have a very special outlook.

MD:

Well, we have lots of influences come in on the island, as you said, and so there are not many places like that, you know? And I think that makes us very unique as the resident Ibiza DJs.

KJ:

Absolutely. Do you have any truly memorable performances?

MD:

What I will always remember at this current stage of my life was my curation of the sunset terrace of We Love on Sundays at Space. I did that for six years. And even though it’s not a one event, I will always look at that with fond memories. I very much enjoy curating as well as DJing. And I got to do that for six years in one of the best clubs in the world. And that wasn’t just for me DJing, it was for me bringing artists that I always wanted to see to Ibiza. Just being involved in that was definitely a highlight of my life.

You bring up a really good point there because a lot of people are very Ibizafocused. And what people tend to forget is everybody is coming from outside of Ibiza to Ibiza. So what it sounds like you’re saying is to keep things fresh, and inspired,

FINDING FAIRWAYS

Mallorca Golf Course Reviews with Matthew Cull

Welcome back to Finding Fairways

Welcome to my first Finding Fairways column of 2023, and the first of Celebrity’s new digital era, as I continue my journey around Mallorca’s golf courses. Today, you’ll find my thoughts on a mild December day spent at Vall D’or Golf near Felanitx on Mallorca’s East coast.

I arrived in good time for the 11 am tee time, met with my playing partner for the day, my good friend and proud Welshman, Gavin, and headed to the front desk to check in. We were greeted with a smile and sent on our way to our buggy with the key in hand. After loading the bags on the cart, we headed over to the first tee. A practice putting green lays adjacent to the tee box which we used for the ten minutes or so it took the four-ball in front of us to get underway.

The first hole here is unusual in that it’s a par-three, not unheard of but relatively uncommon.

I thought it was a nice quirk and was looking forward to the round, I also noticed from the scorecard that we would finish the round with the 18th hole being a par-three too. As neither Gavin nor I had played much recently, and both confessed to being a ‘little rusty’, we decided on a matchplay format, and after a polite handshake, we got underway. Measuring 160 yards from the yellow tees we took aim at the first pin and got underway. As we headed out in the buggy towards the first green it occurred to me that the buggy didn’t have the small digital screens with yardages and other course info on, I think that would be a nice touch, particularly when a buggy is 45 euros rental per round.

As we meandered through the first few tree-lined fairways, I felt that the course reminded me of Woburn in the UK. Some nice layup angles were offered from par 4s, and 5s and a good challenge was presented by the par threes.

The ground underfoot was a little damp in places, despite it being a really pleasant and

mild December day, the little bit of rain from a few days before was still lingering in the lower-lying places. I suspect that the longer holes play significantly shorter on a hot summer’s day when the ball has a lot more roll on it.

So, we reached the clubhouse at the halfway point in around two hours, a little slow in a buggy, and although I had held a game together, I found myself three down.

The back nine holes were far more open in layout compared to the more interesting tree-lined fairways of the front nine allowing Gavin to let loose with his driver a bit more.

I don’t carry a driver and play my own brand of ‘percentage golf’ as Sir Nick Faldo would say.

I planned and plotted my way around the second half of the course and gradually pulled the matchplay score back to ‘All-

Square’ before surging into the lead and finishing the 18th at 2up, becoming the inaugural winner of the Anglo/Cymru Trophy. Gavin did claim the biggest laugh though of the day, however, as he likened my choice of trousers to that of Aladdin, which in fairness were a little baggy by modern men’s golf fashion standards!

The modern clubhouse and staff offered a very warm welcome for a couple of cold beers and a bite to eat afterwards. All in all, a great day of golf, and if you’re over on the east coast or are happy to travel the 50 minutes or so from Palma then it’s certainly a course you’ll enjoy.

SOLLER VALLEY STORIES

‘Soller Shirley’ is my name, and I would like to introduce the Soller Valley to you.  You may have seen us on the Cinema and on TV. We are the background to many wonderful videos and films such as The Night Manager plus many Netflix productions.

The Soller Valley is known as ‘The Island within an Island.’ It contains the Tramuntana mountains, the golden bowl of the Soller Valley and the stunning seaside of the horseshoe bay of the Port of Soller.  Swim, cycle, walk, run, sail, sunbathe are all parts of why so many return to our world every year.   The Soller prawns leads the delights of local gastronomy which welcomes the many foodies who make their pilgrimage hear a few times a year.

As a community which is proud of local tradition, the activities and celebrations take place every month.  This is no ‘Disney Land’

but a community happy to share their Saint’s days and anniversaries with visitors.  For this month the focus is on ‘Carnival’ with parades, music and fun held by adult and children’s groups.   Sollerics have a mindset which encompasses ‘work hard, play hard.’  Entrepreneurs and forward thinkers continue the history of the many parts of the evolution which has created this glorious place.  They know very well how to put this place on the map, and have the best time, making it happen. Give us a Fiesta and we will give you the biggest smile on your face plus the superb cava, champagne and unique cocktails to accompany your experience.

The Soller Valley’s population is enhanced by its ‘frenchness’.  Past years saw economic migration to France, by sea, from the Port of Soller.  In time many returned and

purchased summer houses or relocated back to their roots in retirement.  In the middle of summer, the second language, after Spanish, in our world, is French. All this adds to the vibe and power of the Soller Valley.  History, experiences, language and an eclectic mix of people encourage more and more discoveries every year.

Soller Shirley has lived amongst this for the past twenty years and watched her family have their childhood right here in Soller.  Happy Londoners found their hearts in the Soller Valley, stayed, and continue to learn more and more about this place in the universe.

I look forward to taking you with me on a voyage of discovery to all the Soller Valley has to offer.

CARBON POSITIVE MERCHANDISE. THE NEW YOU?

Ever since the 5p bag tax was introduced in 2015, the common carrier bag has had incredibly bad press, some of it substantiated, some of it not. In truth, carrier bags have been available in biodegradable material for the past 10 years, it’s just that the premium enforced for the manufacturing process swerved consumer purchasing to the cheaper solution. Now more than ever though, consumer purchasing is driven by the will to preserve the Earth’s natural resources.

There is a common misconception that paper bags are better for the environment than the ‘plastic’ style. However, extensive research has proven that the transportation costs to get an order of say 1000 paper bags delivered anywhere has a far greater impact on the environment through it’s carbon footprint. This is because, while 1000 carrier bags can be packed and sent in 1 medium sized box, 1000 Paper bags

would take 5 large boxes, so you see the issue.

Ultimately, like most arguments, it’s subjective and comes down to how responsible consumers are. How many ‘bags for life’ have you bought, but never kept - for life. How many paper bags would you ever practically consider re-using? Where and how would you dispose of your bags? Post pandemic, the Promotional Merchandise Industry has taken a good hard look at itself and the items they supply globally. They have since repositioned themselves and their global network of factories to look at providing greener solutions. With this, the introduction of a relatively new power material has emerged, Sugar cane.

Sugar cane bags are manufactured using a plant based bio-polymer made from sugar cane.

It’s the process of photosynthesis as the plant grows that makes this product

carbon positive. The sugar cane actively captures CO2 from the atmosphere, while at the same time releasing oxygen – making this material not just green, but proactively green.

Our exclusive sugar cane bags material can be chosen as an alternative option to standard polythene across our entire product range of bags, covers, tubes, films, wraps and shrink film, giving you a significantly greener, environmentally friendly option.

It offers your company the opportunity to improve your green credentials, meet legislative requirements and deliver improved environmental solutions. Using bio-polymers at a percentage of 60% in the recipe, can reduce CO2 emissions to 0% even when you take into consideration the energy used for manufacturing and shipping.

Our Eco-Friendly range of gifts is larger now than it’s ever been, meaning you, the consumer have a greater opportunity to buy green. Bags, pens,

mugs, we have a plethora of ideas! For more information or quotes on our range of Eco-Friendly merchandise please contact sales@redhotbranding. co.uk, referencing this article in Celebrity Magazine and we will throw in FREE Setup/Origination.

KEY BENEFITS - SUGAR CANE

1. Organic Polymer Sourced from sugar cane, sugar cane bag products will help lead to a global reduction in CO2.

2. Carbon Positive Actively captures CO2 from the atmosphere, while at the same time releasing oxygen.

3. CSR Requirements Helps to meet industry Corporate Social Responsibility requirements.

4. P&W Regulations Reduce your packaging & waste payment obligations.

5. 100% Recyclable Sugar cane bags are fully recyclable, further reducing its impact on the environment.

THE GLOBAL WELLNESS

MARKET AND THE FUTURE OF WELLNESS IN MALLORCA

The Wellness market also encompasses a broad array of products and services, from Supplements, Personal Care, Nutrition and Physical Activity to Mental Wellness, Complimentary Medicine, Holistic Therapies, and more importantly Wellness Tourism and Travel.

Prior to the Pandemic, the Wellness Industry grew from an estimated $4.3 trillion* (€4 trillion) in 2017 to $4.9 trillion (€4.57 trillion) in 2019, or by 6.6% annually - a growth rate significantly higher than global economic growth at 4%.   Upon the arrival of the Pandemic the wellness economy took a direct hit, particularly tourism, falling as a whole by 11% to $4.4 trillion (while the global GDP declined by 2.8%), with tourism being hit hardest

falling by 39.5 %. A devastating blow. Having had 2 years of Pandemic madness, with the world going into lockdown in differing variations around the globe, it somewhat knocked everyone and everything out of balance. By the end of 2021 it was not surprising values shifted considerably, with people’s concept of “health” expanding to encompass much more than just the absence of bodily illness. With the sudden, and in many cases severe absence of social interaction, limited outlets for stress release and the brutal loss of normal daily routines, a much more expansive definition of “wellness” emerged. Self-care, in its many forms, became increasingly accepted as something that’s necessary, rather than a

personal indulgence. With loneliness being one of the biggest mental health issues of the Pandemic years, people naturally started moving from a self-involved model (with all the endless “self-optimising”) and “digital wellness” focus to a stronger need for real life connection and community. People are now more reflective, seeking more science backed evidence (becoming more available due to demand); they’re less selfish - more concerned about each other and the planet, and want solutions that are meaningful and work.

For much of the world 2022 was a year to dust ourselves off and rush on out to return to life, to reconnect with family and friends, to travel, to have experiences that we’d never been denied previously, freedoms

we may have even taken for granted in the past. People’s lives had been changed and they were looking for more. More connection, more authentic experiences, more life enhancement and wellbeing - and the wellness market has had to respond.  Various future trends are highlighted by the GWI ‘s recently published study on The Future of Wellness 2023. These trends illustrate how we’re embracing the deep original roots of wellness, but with a radical and refreshing reimagining.  From

new wellness social clubs opening up with different vibes and where group bonding comes first; Superficial workplace wellness schemes are being replaced with more meaningful solutions; The greenwashing and false claims from the Beauty industry is evolving into today’s new medical, bio-positive and tech forward product development; Forward thinking cities are now rebuilding themselves around the wellness needs of their citizens; Science is harnessing the ability to live

longer and “younger”;  Serious advances in neuroscience and neuroaesthetics confirming that, when combined, the senses elevate our human experience; The age of AI and Biohacking is here, where scientists are attempting to control biology and defy disease, decay and death so we can become the superhumans of tomorrow! Lastly, but by no means least, the travel industry is having to reinvent itself after the Covid annihilation. From savvy hospitality brands responding to demands

THE GLOBAL WELLNESS MARKET AND THE FUTURE OF WELLNESS IN MALLORCA

from wellness-focused clients looking beyond the basement gym, in search of pro-athlete-level equipment, fitness classes and wellness programming, whenever and wherever they travel, to travel companies needing to offer more authentic and experiential travel experiences, with wellness and sustainability at their core. Wellness tourism is one of the biggest growth areas in both the wellness and travel markets, which is super exciting news for the covid ravaged travel industry. GWI research forecasts the annual growth for wellness tourism to be 21% from 2020 to 2025, outpacing all other sectors of the wellness economy, including personal care & beauty. That’s a giant leap from $435.7 billion ($405.91) in 2020 (a substantial drop from 2019 at $720.4) to a whopping $1127.6 billion (€1050.45) by 2025!!

Add this to a higher average spend than traditional travel markets, with wellness tourists in 2020 on average spending $1,601 per trip, (35% more than the typical tourist) and domestic wellness tourists spending an even higher percentage of 177% more than the typical domestic tourist (at $619 per trip). This is because wellness travellers are typically more affluent, educated, and welltraveled, and are willing to spend more on travel experiences, services, and amenities that support their health and well-being. All of this adds up to a very exciting future for the travel industry as a whole, and a fabulous opportunity for Mallorca and the Balearic islands - our main focus and naturally the reason for this article.  One of the world’s pioneers of mass tourism, Mallorca has had a rocky ride in the years since mass tourism began in the late 1950s. Having over-built, and over sold, the reputation of the island took a pummeling, with the likes of the Magaluf and Arenal giving the island a reputation of a hard-drinking party-island.  In more recent years the Government has been working on cleaning up its reputation, its

wellness travel has the components of wellness tourism (healthy food, exercise, and relaxation) but also benefits the environment by promoting an eco-friendly approach by reusing resources, recycling, and regeneration. Travellers are more informed and aware of environmental impacts around the world. They are looking for experiences that can benefit them AND leave a positive impact on society. The Balearics want to commit to a future transition towards promoting sustainable development with circularity and environmental criteria, without reducing the quality of service for tourism.

focus instead in becoming a pioneer in sustainable tourism.

The Sustainable Tourism Tax has been introduced, where the money is put into environmental conservation to help offset the impact of mass tourism during highseason. There’s a ban on single use plastics (excluding water bottles at present) and a new hotel rating system that will be implemented to show which properties are embracing a more sustainable approach, and more.

The Pandemic saw a devastating loss of income for the Balearics as a whole, and for some, ushering back visitors has been a top priority. While Mallorca has been desperate to get tourists back – the industry represents around 35 per cent of the island’s GDP – it is now thankfully also determined to build on its traditions, and re-build in a more sustainable way. It can be seen by many that the enforced pause caused by Covid-19 gave people, and government most importantly, a chance to think about the environmental impact of current practices, and may ironically, have been just what the Balearics needed. Sustainability is a buzzword that wellness tourism will focus on. Sustainable

Island Spirit Mind, Body & Soul Mind Matters a spiritual journey to recovery

Welcome to the world of the Munay-Ki

If you’re wondering what on earth that is, then keep reading as we take a deep dive into this ancient Incan spiritual practice that is taking the world by storm.

First things first, let’s start with the basics. Munay Ki is a Quechua phrase that translates to “I love you” or “Be as thou art,” which in itself is a beautiful sentiment that encapsulates the essence of the practice.

The Munay Ki consists of a series of ten energetic transmissions, each one designed to help you connect with your inner self and the universal energy around us. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “energetic transmissions”? That

sounds a bit woo-woo, doesn’t it? But hear me out.

The Munay Ki is not some new age fad; it is an ancient practice that has been passed downthrough generations of Incan medicine men and women. It is a spiritual practice that has stood the test of time and has helped countless people connect with their inner selves and the universe. So, what exactly are these energetic transmissions, and how do they work? Each transmission is like

a download of information that helps you connect with a different aspect of yourself and the universe.

For example, the first transmission, known as THE HEALERS RITE helps you connect with a lineage of energy healers that have been around for thousands of years. The second transmission, known as The Bands of Power helps you create a protective shield around your energy field to prevent negativity from affecting you. The third

help you see things more clearly. You may also feel a greater sense of confidence in your own intuition and decisionmaking abilities. This upgrade is believed to help you become more wise and discerning. The EARTH KEEPERS

RITE is the seventh Munay Ki upgrade and is said to activate the energy center at the crown of your head, which is associated with the element of consciousness. It’s supposed to help you overcome feelings of separation and connect with your own inner unity and oneness with all of creation. This upgrade is particularly helpful for those who feel disconnected from the natural world or who struggle to find meaning in their lives.

During the EARTHKEEPER’S RITE, you may feel a deep sense of connection to the earth and all of its inhabitants. You may also experience a greater sense of purpose and a desire to contribute to the greater good. This upgrade is believed to help you become more connected and attuned to the universe.

The STAR KEEPERS RITE is the eighth Munay Ki upgrade and is said to activate the energy centers in your hands and feet, which are associated with the elements of space and time. It’s supposed to help you overcome feelings of limitation and tap into your own inner power and potential. This upgrade is particularly helpful for those who feel stuck in their lives or who struggle to manifest their goals

THE RITE OF THE CREATOR is a ritual that is often practiced by indigenous peoples around the world. It involves offering prayers and thanks to the Creator, the ultimate source of all life and energy. Some people might light candles, burn sage or other herbs, or make offerings of food or other gifts as part

of the ritual. The idea is to show gratitude and respect for the Creator, and to ask for blessings, guidance, and protection. The RITE OF THE WOMB on the other hand, is a more recent practice that was created by a group of women in South America. It’s a way of honoring the creative power of the womb, whether or not you have a physical womb yourself. The ritual involves sitting in meditation, visualizing a bright light filling your womb space (or the area where your womb would be), and reciting a simple prayer that affirms your connection to the Divine Feminine energy. The idea is to release any fears or traumas that might be stored in your womb space, and to connect with the energy of creation and fertility. All of these rites can be really powerful ways of connecting with your spirituality and your own inner wisdom. Whether you’re seeking guidance from a higher power, or simply looking to tap into your own creative potential, these practices can help you find the clarity and strength you need to move forward with confidence. So, give them a try if you feel drawn to them! The Munay Ki is not just about receiving these transmissions; it is also about passing them on. Once you have received all nine transmissions, you become a carrier of the Munay Ki, and you can pass it on to others. This is where the true power of the Munay Ki lies. By passing on these transmissions, you are helping others connect with their inner selves and the universe, and you are helping to spread love and light throughout the world. So, why should you try the Munay Ki? Well, for one, it is a beautiful and powerful spiritual practice that can help you connect with your inner self and

the universe. It can help you find balance in your life, heal past traumas, and unlock your full potential. But beyond that, the Munay Ki is also a community. When you become a carrier of the Munay Ki, you join a global network of like-minded individuals who are all working towards the same goal: spreading love and light throughout the world. But don’t just take my word for it. Here are some testimonials from people who have experienced the Munay Ki for themselves:

“I was struggling with anxiety and depression, and the Munay Ki helped me find peace and balance in my life.

It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I feel more connected to the universe than ever before.”

Sarah, 34

“The Munay Ki has transformed my life. I used to feel lost and alone, but now I feel like I am part of something bigger than myself. The community of Munay Ki carriers is so supportive and loving, and I feel like I have found my tribe.”

John, 42

“I was skeptical at first, but the Munay Ki has blown me away. I feel like I have unlocked a whole new level of spiritual awareness, and I am so grateful for the experience.”

Maria, 28

So, how do you get started with the Munay Ki? Well, the first step is to find a qualified practitioner who can guide you through the process. There are many Munay Ki practitioners out there, we are lucky enough to have one of them here in Mallorca. Jamie Vida. jamievida.com

HIGHWAY TO A BETTER LIFE

I am Betina von Hohendorff, certified as an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) - Trainer / Erickson Hypnosis and Coach by Mindovers. Here is my first column with Celebrity magazine, I thought the best way to start was to talk about decision-making, to achieve goals as good resolutions for the new year.

Love, Betina www.mindovers.com +34 699 327 363

We start the year with several goals; go to the gym, lose weight, stop smoking, change jobs, go on holiday abroad, start new relationships, etc. The more goals we have, the less chance we have of achieving them, as there is no defined focus and no achievement projections. We think that it is only important to have goals and to write them down, but that is not always enough.

We need to have a clear definition of exactly what we want to accomplish. We need to consider the short-term and long-term consequences. And, the most important thing is to know, to understand the decision process. Without a correct decision process, a goal remains a dream. Most of us are afraid of making a decision to achieve a goal. This is the fear of failure.

Why can’t I make decisions?

There are several reasons that can prevent you from making important decisions in your life. But there are two reasons that are the most common. The first is a lack of clarity about your values which results in a lack of

clarity about your priorities, decisions and actions. The second is a form of fear. For example, some people fear the negative consequences of their decisions. Others are afraid of not living up to them or giving too much importance to the opinion of others.

What determines the decision?

We can answer this question by opposing causes and motives. There are events that happen and events that are made to happen; the former has to do with causes, and the latter with reasons or motives. The cause participates in the impersonal necessity of the physical world, the motive is expressed in the first person and can be understood first as the fact of a subject saying “I”.

Before making a decision, one must start with the desired result.

In order to make an informed decision, it is necessary to have all the information concerning each of the alternatives and to know the consequences that each of them could have in relation to the defined goals. There are times when we make wrong

decisions due to a lack of information that could not be obtained beforehand. For example, we decide to start a job in a new company and we are bullied. The decision to start in the company was correct, the only information we didn’t have was that we could be bullied by a colleague. It means that the decision was right at the time you decided to join the company, but nobody had informed you about an invidious colleague.

The same can happen with friendships that we accept and that suddenly become toxic for us. If we knew that this friendship could be toxic, we would not have made the decision to accept this person in our life.

My advice:

Select only three major good resolutions for a new year to create a better focus and put them into action.

Make your goals for yourself without thinking about what other people think.

Be honest with yourself and explore deeper what you want, and what should be the best for you.

BOATS, BIKES AND AUTOMOBILES

An Homage to The Italian Job

Any classic car fan of the crime-comedycaper from 1969, The Italian Job, with its eclectic cast of Michael Caine, Noel Coward and Benny Hill, will be relieved to hear that the sequence in which the orange Lamborghini L400 Muira that climbed the mountain hairpins through the opening credits to the strains of Matt Munro’s On Days Like These, was actually made using two Muiras. The car entering the tunnel was brand new and sold after the scene was shot, the smashed car at the other end before being tipped off the cliff being another Miura that had previously been in a serious accident and not deemed roadworthy. And breathe...

Not quite at the car-smashing production budget level of something like The Blues Brothers, it didn’t help that BMC, as it was then, insisted that the three red, white and blue Mini Coopers were purchased at trade price and that the thirty-odd other Mini Coopers destroyed during the filming had

to be paid for. It was still painful to watch an Aston DB4 convertible also getting tipped off a cliff and the trashing of a couple of Series 1 E-Type Jags – all incredibly valuable today. Again, the Aston was actually a Lancia Flaminia dressed up as an Aston and the two E-Types were fully restored after the film and are still being driven around today. One not very careful previous owner, albeit with good movie provenance…

The only special car that didn’t achieve the same longevity was the beautiful Ferrariengined Fiat Dino Coupe - the classic mafia car of the ‘60s - purchased after the film’s completion by the director, Peter Collinson, which rusted so badly that only its doors remain.

Talking of Fiat, the film also put some pretty stunning locations and iconic buildings on the map, not least the 1923 Lingotto Building in Turin - the scene of the rooftop oval track in the movie… “Now as you go round, look for that bloody exit”... We can’t go round here all night…”.

Gazillions of soon-to-be-rusty Fiats were manufactured here, and the fact that Fiat effectively owned Turin enabled its President, Gianni Agnelli, to welcome the film into the city and facilitate its making, creating some traffic chaos in the process!

As a stunning example of early 20th-century industrial architecture, raw materials were shoved in at one end of the Lingotto Building to progress upwards through the five production floors before emerging as Fiats at the test track on the rooftop - making it the world’s biggest car production facility at the time.

So it is that after my autumn 2022 tour of Provence on my VFR800 motorbike, planning is in place to jump on the Alcudia ferry to Toulon with some friends and do a lap of the northern Italian Alps in June, taking in many of the film’s mountain passes and recognised locations, including the Lingotto Building on the way to the mountains, part of which is conveniently now a hotel.

From Turin we will head northeast via the old banked sweeps of the Monza Grand Prix circuit, the ‘Cathedral of Motorsport’ and then into the Dolomites – perhaps the most dramatic and spectacular corner of The Alps. We will then turn west over the Stelvio Pass to Bormio - the scene of many a Top Gear shoot and one of the prettiest and most famous mountain passes in the world.

I’ve always absolutely loved road trips and being lucky enough to live on the beach all year with a ferry connecting us directly to the Cote D’Azur, makes the mountains of Europe a desirable summer option

BARCOS, MOTOS Y COCHES

Property Market Update

establish residence and to provide services, governed by the veto on discrimination against persons on the basis of their nationality.

It is true that Article 47 of the Spanish Constitution provides for the right to housing and Article 33 for the right to private property, with a mandate to the State to preserve and guarantee them. It should not be forgotten that insularity is a circumstance that is directly related to land and, therefore, necessarily affects the real estate market.

The regulation of access to housing must, in addition to respecting the national and European legal system, take into account the reality of who buys housing in Mallorca today and the possibility that, if the limitation is established, the objective of avoiding speculation will not be achieved.

Any measure adopted cannot benefit nationals of one EU Member State to the detriment of others, even if the public interest is invoked.

HOMES & PROPERTIES

LIMIT ON PURCHASE OF PROPERTIES BY FOREIGNERS?

The evolution of the real estate market since the previous economic crisis has been indisputably affected by the pandemic, inflation and the rise in interest rates to the point of conditioning access to financing for the purchase of housing by the average citizen. This, together with the fact that prices have been maintained, if not increased, has made foreign investment,

mainly in the purchase of second homes, the main protagonist. Some international governments (Canada), European (Denmark, Malta, Austria, Croatia) and regional (Balearic Islands) have proposed the need to adopt certain measures such as limiting the purchase of property by foreigners with the questionable aim of preventing speculation.

From a strictly legal point of view, it is necessary to highlight that the European legal system preaches a series of essential principles such as the free movement of persons and capital or the freedom to

The alliance against this type of measure is not only legal or jurisprudential but also political, as it goes against European and national policies on the matter, such as, for example, in our country, the so-called Gold Visa, which grants residence in Spain to foreigners who make an investment of more than €500,000 in the real estate market.

Finally, this type of measure breaks with one of the main characteristics of the Mallorcan real estate market, which is the openness to foreigners, whose capital has always been welcome on our island. In any case, our office is open to analyse your case and resolve any doubts you may have.

www.puga-alarcon.com

CLINICA VETERINARIA BENDINAT 20 YEARS ON…

Nick the Vet talks to us about how proud he is that Clinica Veterinaria Bendinat is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

What a proud milestone for myself and the Clinica Veterinaria Bendinat team; the 20th anniversary.

We opened our doors in March 2003. I had re-mortgaged my house in England and utilised all of my “early” inheritance and then spent three hectic months buying, then planning and finally building the clinic.

This wasn’t achieved without a few difficult hurdles to overcome; my Spanish improved dramatically whilst negotiating and discussing with builders, plumbers and painters. I discovered the hundreds of forms and procedures that I had to complete in order to get the working licenses from Calvia Council and the veterinary college. And finally, all the equipment had to be sourced and bought. what hectic days they were!

The first few years were tough; 24 hours a day and 365 days per year, on constant call. I think I had two or three days off in the first three years when I went to a couple of weddings. Fana, my wife, was often called upon to cover if someone was off ill. She was also enlisted many times at night when I needed help during an emergency.

Fortunately, it has been a great experience and success. We now have three vets, a full-time nurse and two receptionists, one of whom is the practice manager, Mari. Mari worked alongside me for the first five years, before having her family and has now been back with us for the last three years. Cristina (the vet) and Marina (the nurse) are even longer sufferers; they have been with me for eighteen and fifteen years respectively. It’s great when clients and pets recognise us and we know everyone so well. We call it the Bendinat Vet Clinic family. It’s gratifying, and sometimes sad, to know we have cared for and treated some pets all

their lives. I have seen children grow up with their pets, from babies to university and beyond. How old am I?! Our aim was to bring a personal and caring touch to the treatment of pets, and their owners, through attention to detail and the best up-to-date treatment and advice. I wanted the clinic to feel warm and relaxing; I made the partitions from wood and the floor tiles brown, so that it felt more homely and less clinic-like, so both pets, and owners, would be more relaxed. I think we have achieved this. Communication with pet owners was also a priority. It is often difficult to explain things when owners are stressed and worried about their pets, but we have always strived to explain everything clearly and then let owners decide what course of action they would like us to take. I have written 30-40 information sheets with advice on everything from castration and spaying to first aid and dieting.

I could not have achieved the setting up and running of this clinic on my own. It has been down to the great team that I have been privileged enough to work with; Cristina, Marina and Mari, and also the newcomers (who are now not so new); Antonio, Alba and even the unseen Dolly, who cleans up the mess and keeps the clinic hygienic and smelling nice! The veterinary practice has changed a lot in the past 20 years; there

have been great improvements in veterinary knowledge and skills. We have also had excellent benefits from new services, like the 24-hour emergency and referral centres of Hospital Canis and Hospital Arago. They have given us access to expert specialists and facilities, such as MRI and CAT scans. We have also appreciated the services of Renata, the pet physio, and also ultrasound specialists like Carmen, Mar, Estrella and Alicia, and more recently, Susana. We even have a worldclass surgeon and his anaesthetic specialist wife, Ricardo and Maria, who come to the clinic with their entire team to do complicated surgeries and advise us with various cases.

What a past. We have registered over 10,000 pets, with more than 5,000 owners. And what of the future?... Clients and pets willing, I hope the future will be even better for the Clinica Veterinaria Bendinat team, its pets and clients alike.

TRIBUNAL LEGAL

TEMPORARY SOLIDARITY TAX ON LARGE FORTUNES

(Law 38/2022 of 27 December)

The so-called tax on large fortunes is initially of a temporary nature and will be applicable to the financial years 2022 -2023.

The purpose of this new tax is to tax the net wealth of resident and non-resident individuals exceeding €3,000,000, applicable throughout Spain. It will accrue on 31 December of each year, on which date the existing net worth and the tax liability will be determined. The net wealth will be determined on the basis of the difference between the value of the assets and rights owned by each person and the amount resulting from applying the reductions for the charges and encumbrances affected. Thus, for example, a person whose assets consist solely of a house valued at €4,000,000, affected by a mortgage of €1,500,000, on 31 December of this year, would have net assets of €2,500,000 and would not be obliged to pay the tax.

If the result is higher than €3,000,000, a reduction of €700,000 would have to be applied for the settlement of the tax, exempt from payment of the tax, with the remaining amount being taxed according to a tax scale between 1.7% and 3.5%.

This new and temporary tax must coexist with the Wealth Tax, regulated

The temporary tax will have full effect in those autonomous communities that do not have the Wealth Tax in force, such as Madrid and Andalusia.

Employee Benefit Plans: How to pay your employees more without increasing their salaries.

As an employer, ensuring that your staff feel well valued and appreciated is of utmost importance as it means that they are likely to work harder and helps with staff retention. As an employee, all of these aspects of a job are also of vital importance but money is often more of a driving factor. AXA has come up with an Employee Benefit Plan that helps satisfy all of these goals for both employers and employees and Darryl Lopez from DYLSI explains how…

An Employee Benefit Plan is a concise plan made up of multiple factors to improve an employee’s life both at work and at home. The plan is free to set up and maintain for

Without Employee Benefits Plan

both the employer and the employee and helps the employee to save money and make the most out of their salary. The plan allows employers to incorporate transport costs, medical insurance, retirement plans and pensions, nursery fees, training costs and food expenses. All of these benefits are deductible from the employee’s personal income tax and therefore are a great incentive when it comes to tax declarations which are challenging in Spain at the best of times.

The employee can take out private medical insurance through the platform and include their partner and children in the plan. This is paid by the employee but

at a reduced rate as there are preferential rates available for companies. A pension plan can also be added to the plan and contributed monthly by either the employer or the employee. All other benefits that have been offered by the company can also be added to the plan so that everything is easily accessible and in one place.

As all of these services are tax deductible, it means that the employee is saving money each year and therefore their monthly take-home increases. This is because all of the contracted products are discounted from the employee’s gross salary before tax. See an example of these savings below:

EMPLOYER BENEFITS

• Retain talent and make your workers feel supported by the company.

• Facilitates workers’ access to services of interest to them such as health insurance, life insurance, retirement savings plan, training, childcare, and transport with tax and economic benefits.

• No cost to the company

• When you take out an insurance product the cost of the online platform is assumed by AXA.

• Reduces staff absences

• Employees who have health insurance will be able to access specialists and diagnostic tests more quickly, reducing the time they need to return to work.

• Improves the overall job offer

• The platform provides an additional tool for negotiating salaries and attracting new talent to the company.

• Improves the overall image of the company.

• Looking after staff and providing them with access to additional benefits will help to better position the company’s overall image.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

• The employee takes home more money

• The employee benefits from tax reductions on the contracted services and the company does not have to raise their salary.

• Access to services at a lower cost

• Employees can contract services at below-market prices by benefiting from company rates.

• Create a personalised plan

• The service is flexible and allows each employee to choose according to their needs.

• Improves employees’ work/life balance

• Includes options to extend healthcare to the employee’s spouse and children as well as the option to include childcare.

• 100% voluntary

• Each employee can choose whether to join the plan or not.

The Employee Benefits Plan with AXA is beneficial to both the employer and the employee and is a fantastic tool that is easy to contract.
