Project management, innovation and transformation

CENTRALESUPÉLEC TRAINS EXPERTS SO THAT INNOVATION CAN CONTINUE “Companies must be more and more efficient, since they evolve within very competitive international dynamic markets, and with clients who are more and more demanding. Project management is a solution that can improve the flexibility of an organisation and that can integrate the growing complexity of business. Our teaching summarises and globalises diverse project management reference documents in a practical way, which can be used immediately. Our expertise? To simultaneously take into account the processes, methods and tools with the behavioural aspects of men and companies.” _Julie Le Cardinal, Research professor in the Industrial Engineering Laboratory, and Rene Palacin, Directors of Studies for the Project Management programme.

Boris Vian Engineer Centrale 1942 Writer, poet, singer, jazz musician, Boris Vian’s career path was intimately linked to his engineering background. All his life he invented, innovated, continuously trying to destabilise us. CentraleSupélec cultivates the urge to achieve greater heights.

A GLOBAL VIEW AND TOOLS IMMEDIATELY APPLICABLE IN THE WORKPLACE Benoît Doreau Student, Disruptive and Radical Innovations Executive Certificate

“In terms of innovation, success does not only depend on the capacity of some individuals to develop ideas. It also depends on a set of cultural, organizational, managerial, methodical, etc. factors. As part of my functions I wanted to make innovation a repeatable process. To attain this objective I chose to consolidate my experience by means of a training course. The “Disruptive and Radical Innovations” Executive Certificate perfectly met this objective by bringing me an overall vision and methodological tools that could immediately be applied within the workplace. I particularly appreciated the balance between the theoretical contents fuelled by research activities in CentraleSupélec laboratories, the methods used and the examples of concrete innovation projects experienced by the course teachers.”

A COURSE THAT ADDS INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE Thomas Canu Graduate, Specialized Master in Project Management

After eight years of professional experience I wanted to complete my initial training with an Executive Master at CentraleSupélec Executive Education. My decision was motivated by two major objectives: the wish to reinforce and extend my skills, and the wish to attain senior positions at an international level. As well as offering exceptional teaching, in-depth and perfectly adapted to the professional environment, this type of training focuses on “expertise” and “soft skills”, two essential concepts in a company. The diversity of profiles in the Masters is also one of the main strenghts of the school. Two years after having completed this training, I was lucky enough to attain the position I wanted on the international scene.

Performance opérations

CENTRALESUPÉLEC TRAINS VISIONARIES TO HELP COMPANIES STAY AHEAD “Operations performance is an essantial lever in the strategic alignment of companies. It brings together all the processes of performance improvement of an organisation acting on teams and individuals. The company must both be efficient and performant to deliver products and/or services that meet the rigorous market expectations and must be efficient in minimising the level of effort and the necessary costs.” _Jean-Claude Bocquet, Director of the Industrial Engineering Laboratory and Dr. Anissa Makhlouf, Directors of Studies for the Excellence Operational Programme

Louis Charles Breguet Engineer Supélec 1903 Louis Charles Breguet invented the gyroplane, the helicopter’s ancestor. He dedicated much of his genius to the dawning aeronautical industry. His training at Supélec was without doubt an influence on his decision to create an aeroplane workshop from which amongst others emerged his first seaplane. As an inventor, he was already aware that the future of inventions laid in their commercialisation.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, CERTIFICATION AND A SPRINGBOARD Mohamed Senhadji Student, Executive Certificate in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

“My Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training was a great experience, rich in encounters and learning. The contents were well balanced between theory and practice, and were improved as the trainers had hands-on experience. This, amongst others, enables one to acquire more concrete notions of the themes addressed. In the beginning I chose to follow this course at CentraleSupélec with the aim of obtaining a certification and to develop already acquired knowledge; however after having followed the course I realized that it could really lead me to an evolution or a reorientation of my professional career.”

TEACHING CONTENT COHERENT WITH BUSINESS PRACTICE Célia Tardy-Maniquet Graduate, Specialized Master Purchasing Manager in Technology and Industy

The multidisciplinary teaching in CentraleSupélec’s specialized Master “Purchasing Manager in Technology and Industry” is an advantage when buying technical products in the complex international context. Following this course, I was employed as an Industrial Buyer for Snecma, part of the high-tech international group SAFRAN. The transformation of industrial buying towards external management resources of the company influences practices in the long term, in coherence with the master’s programme: management of supplier risk, construction of a long term relationship and permanent innovation research. Today these are the differentiating criteria in the high-tech markets.

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

Computing and information systems

CENTRALESUPÉLEC TRAINS INNOVATORS SO THAT COMPANIES CAN ESTABLISH THEMSELVES “Information systems have become a vital asset to companies. However they are seen to be more of an obstacle to agility rather than a lever for competitiveness. Our objective? To take the best advantage of your information systems, notably by insisting on the transformation process of the company and the definition of its architecture, of the organisation of its systems. To prepare you to be more efficient tomorrow.” _Pierre-Fréderic Rouberties, Teacher at the Ecole Centrale Paris, Director of Studies for the Information Systems Programme

René Barthélémy Engineer Supélec 1910 Rene Barthélémy, a pioneer in the development of television, saw his cathode ray tube receivers enter households to receive, in December 1935, the first French television channel. Supélec had infected him with the research virus and a deep passion for the most fundamental of communications: broadcasting, and therefore their impact.

COURSES THAT ARE AS CLOSE TO REALITY AS POSSIBLE Henri Rottier Student, Master Specialized in SI

“It seemed to me that it was essential to take a specialized master at CentraleSupélec on the theme “architecture and urbanization of information systems”. Only CentraleSupélec offers a course on company architecture that awards a diploma. Its lessons are very close to reality, since they integrate workplace simulations and examples of participating companies. Following on from an urbanization approach, the architecture of the company brings joint action, with its enlarged field, to the whole of the structural system (governance, strategy, vision urbanization). This approach brings new light to my hospital establishment, and enables it to better understand the changes and to correctly orientate the structuring of the Hospital Information System (SIH). A third cycle enabled me to open my conceptual horizon, to raise my level of abstraction, to clarify my vision, and it will be a considerable advantage to my career advancement.”

A REAL ADDED VALUE DUE TO, AMONGST OTHERS, THE RICHNESS OF EXCHANGES Marina Chauvet Graduate, Executive Certificate in IS Project Management

Obtaining the Executive Certificate “Project management applied to Information Systems” allowed me to consolidate my skills by covering strategic and operational aspects of project management, the specificities of information systems, as well as the human dimension. The training received at CentraleSupélec met my requirements both by the contents and the quality of the teachers, who knew how to share their knowledge with generosity and passion, and by the richness of the exchanges with the other participants and the dynamism of the group which established itself as the months went by. I could plan concrete applications in daily situations which, for me, was a real added value in my job as administration and development manager of ERP.

Science and advanced technologies

CENTRALESUPÉLEC TRAINS TALENTS SO THAT COMPANIES CAN GROW “Our courses are linked to research work done by Centralesupélec. Thus the programs include not only technical and scientific bases, but also the reality of the market: competing technologies, emerging products and services, clients, consumers, etc. This double approach enables the participants to widen their understanding of a topic and to reinforce their capacity of intervention within the framework of their research and development missions, of monitoring, of strategic orientations or others.” _Gilles Gleyze, Executive Managing director Centralesupélec Executive Education

Marius Lavet Engineer Supélec 1914

A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE ISSUES Catherine Chabrol Graduate Specialized Master in Management of Energy Markets

“Following initial training in a business school, and after different sales and marketing jobs at the start of my career, and also jobs in sectors such as mass consumption and luxury, I wanted to give a new dimension to my career by joining the rapidly growing energy sector. The Specialized Master in “Business Engineer in Electricity Markets” at Supélec not only enabled me to acquire real knowledge and skills, but also to better understand the world of energy and its interactions with economic and political spheres. On block release training with EDF for the whole of my course I was first recruited as a business affairs manager in their subsidiary for renewable energies EDF ENR Solaire, then as a Territorial Development Director at the parent company.”

As the inventor of the quartz watch, Marius Lavet registered more than a hundred patents linked to the watchmaking industry, one of which was the step by step micro-motor which is the basis of all electronic horology. Trained at Supélec, he is an example of a researcher whose genius focused on the development of instruments closely linked to the everyday life

A COURSE THAT CAN OPEN DOORS FOR ME Gustavo Rincón Student, Specialized Master in Project Management and Systems Engineering

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

Systems Engineer from Lechería, Venezuela, I was looking for a specialization abroad and I chose CentraleSupélec and its MS "Project Management and Systems Engineering". I was drawn to this MS thanks to the School's extraordinary reputation, as well as its program which enables its participants to obtain the highest managerial skills and project management knowledge, with an innovative holistic and systemic approach. There is no doubt that this MS will allow me to seize numerous opportunities in the near future.

Long-term issues and health

CENTRALESUPÉLEC TRAINS PIONEERS SO THAT COMPANIES CAN CHANGE “In this unprecedented mutation of economic and financial crisis, environmental challenges and major challenges to society, the 21st century has to reinvent the market economy model and focus on the company of tomorrow. To rise to these challenges CentraleSupélec offers multidisciplinary courses that are orientated around two main themes: the environment and health. This involves training players for companies, governments and institutions that are able to include the big environmental and social issues in a balanced developmental strategy. Future generations will thus respond to the important 21st century challenges with science and technology, putting this to use for the sustainable development of human society by enlightened new engineers.” _Patrick D’Humières & Geneviève Férone – Directors of Studies for Sustainable Issues _Danièle Attias, Teacher at the Ecole Centrale Paris - Director of Studies for the Health Engineering Programme

Sébastienne Guyot graduated in aerodynamics as part of the first mixed class in Centrale Paris; she worked for several different aeronautical construction companies and ran the 800 metres in the 1928 Olympic Games. She is remembered as being one of the first women to claim the right to register for the competitive exam to enter an establishment that was reserved only for young men up to then.

A UNIQUE TRAINING THANKS TO ITS MULTIDISCIPLINARY CHARACTER Nathalie Dubiez Student, Executive Certificate in Sustainable and Responsible Company

“Sustainable Development has become an assessment criterion for companies: how to insure that the future value of participation will not be affected by non-sustainable behavior or how to generate value by putting into place an ESG policy? The CentraleSupélec course ‘Sustainable Company’ is unique by its multidisciplinary character and by the quality of the instructors mobilized for each of the subjects: a theoretical presentation by three instructors, leaders in their respective fields or from a leading institution. This course enabled me to legitimize my discourse and my actions towards company executives and their teams, and to create value as an associate of Franchise Management.”

A TEACHING APPROACH THAT IS BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL Michael Besse Graduate, Specialized Master in Management of Risks and Security of Health Establishments and Networks

The Specialized Master GRS offered by CentraleSupélec was a pertinent and logical extension to my initial training in Health Law. Its educational high level approach that is both theoretical and practical enabled me to hold diverse positions of responsibility in both public and private health establishments. Today, as Quality Director for Risk Management and Patients’ Rights for Public Assistance – Paris Hospitals, and also as I ranked top in two hospital engineer competitive exams I can measure the impact that this training has on the challenges that I have to take up within a universe that is constantly changing.

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN : THE PARTICIPANT IS AT THE CENTRE OF HIS TRAINING PROGRAMME

In terms of evaluation, SupÊlec has shown itself to be innovative amongst the engineering schools. Its offer of open courses is in line is in line with an approach to continuous improvement (certification ISO 9001) that guarantees a strong consistency with the expectations of our clients and is aimed to give full satisfaction. At Centrale Paris Executive Education all the courses are assessed using a methodology done in three steps proposed by the iWips company (Imagine Your World in Progress), this enables the quality and the return on investment of our courses to be assessed. - A survey of participants and the contracting organisations’ expectations before the course; - Satisfaction survey immediately after the course on knowledge acquired and on the conditions of the course; - Impact and satisfaction survey once the participants have gone back to their workplace via a follow up on the practical use of the information acquired by questioning the participants and the contracting organisations. We send our clients a report about these evaluations taking into account the improvements that can be made.

In terms of pedagogy, the greatest invention of these last years is not the fact the pencil has been abandoned for the digital tablet: it is the revaluation of the modules and contents so that the courses that were originally based on pure knowledge are today based on the transformation of knowledge into expertise. At CentraleSupĂŠlec Executive Education the rigidity of the curriculum has made place for all the flexibility needed so that the trainee can be the prime player in his learning. The courses are, therefore; more specific: flexible training programmes, blended learning approaches, pedagogic support, help with financial engineering, etc.

AN INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGY To base the courses on the individual is to optimise the contents, the attitudes, the methods and the tools. THE CONTENTS are linked to the research laboratory and the CentraleSupĂŠlec Chairs. Interdisciplinary, the complimentary activity sectors are closely watched, as are international issues. THE ATTITUDES vary, those of the teachers as well as those of the learners, to favour the assimilation of the contents, their transformation into dynamic knowledge, exchanges, feedback so that things can be put in to place rapidly once the learners are back in the company. THE METHODS integrate role-play, the analysis of real and simulated cases, the collaborative approach, conferences, visits, trips. Entertaining and quirky educational approaches are also present. THE TOOLS are those of today: interactive boards, community practice by sharing documents, serious games, MOOC, SPOC, virtual classes, on line conferences etc.

All these instruments are set up to personalise the course so that each individual and each company will have a unique experience. In addition all the participants have access to collaborative on line systems adapted to course objectives : - Community practices and feedback to highlight fieldwork ; - Collaborative platforms to make exchanges and cooperation between professionals easier. These virtual places are inexhaustible sources of information concerning updates about jobs and the evolution of professional practices ; - The development of real and specific cases based on industrial research contracts.
