I have worked with the Foundation for over twenty years and watched its impact and leadership grow, including its work in partnership with other nonprofits and government to address needs as diverse as helping military families, taking care of our elderly, teaching our school children about healthy lifestyles and financial responsibility, bringing fresh produce to areas of need, awarding scholarships, even preserving honey bees, to name a few. The Foundation created the Opportunity Index to provide factual information about our community and is working with local, state and federal officials to foster participation in the 2020 Census. I served on the Foundation’s Board for seven years and over time participated in many committees and task forces, including the Grant Committee, Diversity Task Force, Marketing Committee, Gala Committee, Scholarship Committee and most recently the Civic Leadership Committee. I created a donor advised fund in my mother’s memory and, more recently, a named fund to support the Permanent Fund for Northern Virginia that will carry on important work in our community.
