Honoring Gibbons Educators for their years of dedicated service to our school and for their unparalleled devotion to our students.

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic last March, Gibbons made the transition to distance learning in 48 hours.

The 2019-2020 academic year at Cardinal Gibbons began much like any other. The relative quiet of the summer gave way to the energetic activity of students and educators preparing for another year of learning, leading, serving, and, of course, engaging with one another.

As it turns out, the year was anything but typical given the challenges brought on by COVID-19. The grit and resilience of the Gibbons community, the courage of so many during the pandemic, and the confidence of students and families made the difficult second half of the school year a success.

So, let’s take a look back at some key achievements as well as memories that celebrate the resiliency and determination that helped us persevere through the most trying times in recent memory.

FAITH

FAITH & MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS

Held a total of 39 RETREATS 22 grade-level, eight middle-school, five club, and three athletic retreats as well as one educator retreat.

Served more than 750 STUDENT RETREATANTS in all grade levels as well as 65 educators and coaches.

Provided opportunities to lead retreats to more than 100 STUDENTS.

Hosted a blessing and dedication of the Short Journey Retreat Center, which drew over 100 ATTENDEES.

Celebrated the first year of operation of the center, our school’s home away from home, with plans to host the inaugural summer of CAMP CRUSADER there in 2021.

Offered a DAILY PRAYER LIFE as well as All School and daily Masses (Pre COVID-19) and weekly Masses (During COVID-19) to the Gibbons community.

Designed DAY RETREATS for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to attend during the pandemic. Kairos also will be a daylong experience for seniors. The sophomore retreats will have a service component.

Welcomed Sarah Tennant as a NEW COORDINATOR to the retreat program.

Holy Communion is communion with God but also with one another. COVID-19 has separated us from “ this gift and one another. To celebrate weekly Mass in our chapel is a reminder of who we are and who we belong to. We carry that reality back into the community that is Gibbons.” FATHER DANIEL OSCHWALD CHAPLAIN
