friend and indeed Natty proved it to us as he worked so hard alongside his handler to win most of the challenges he took part in. He came third in the Attack challenge and also won the highlight challenge of the day, the Agility test, in which he entertained the crowd amidst wild cheers. It was therefore no surprise when he crowned it all by winning the Best-in-show (Dog of the day) Award’ The Belgian Malinois was not only as fit as a fiddle, but also very intelligent and disciplined. He could jump over high ‘walls’ with ease and perform tricks so smoothly you could think he was half – human. This made him a darling of the crowd. And after coming third in last year’s challenge, this year with a bit of hard work, Natty dominated the challenges in tracking, attack, agility & course manoeuvre. Nnam who raised and trained Natty from puppy to Champion says he runs a dog training School and works in Elite K9 Security services in Portbell Luzira and also trains Dogs and other pets for his clients. He was so emotional while receiving his prizes which included a land tittle worth 9 million from Jomayi Property consultants, certificates, Dog food hampers and other prizes from Chief Guest, Soroti Municipality MP Captain Mike Mukula. Tears kept flowing freely from his eyes as he was cheered on by the rest of the participants.

“I am over whelmed with joy. I have been working hard for this the whole year and now my hard work has paid off. I don’t have much to say other than I am just too happy”. He told Chano8. The general public was also given a chance to showcase their dogs and what they hard to offer. Many walked away with prizes for cutest dog, best cross breed, cutest puppy, best dressed dog and best tricks performer among others. The Dog Show was sponsored by Jomayi property consultants, Nile Gold, SMS ONE, Pespi, Capital FM and NTV among others.

BLANKETS AND WINE
Blankets, Wine and Amazing Music
Every year, at the onset of the Blankets and Wine festival, crowds throng expecting something magical.
Excited fans at Blankets and Wine
F
or the sixth edition that happened in July, Afrigo band were the chosen headlining acts.
Then the main worry: would the Afrigo Band, mostly recognizable among the 40 plus, pull it off among a social gathering that teams with the cajoled fragile social class? Come D-day and the picnic baskets, fashionable mats, the wine and blankets were on full show.
24 Sept.2014
Donning larger-than-life shades, loud make-up and clothes that revealed glistening thighs and Johnny Bravo frames, they braved the drizzle in their hundreds. There is something about Blankets and Wine and the Fear of missing out (FOMO). The crowd was huge and enthusiastic. Despite initial fears, the music Afrigo music was good the ear. You could easily mistake the frenzied fits of the fans for those of Afrigo’s core Obligatto fans.
Iryn Ntale resonated well with them. Her performance with a one Richie did well to rouse the crowd. By the time Afrigo’s youthful singer Rude Boy Devoh hit the stage, it was on a mountain of hype. Joanitah Kawalya was the climax. Cheers and ululations greeted her time on stage. The highlight was when the now inebriated crowd asked for an encore performance for Afrigo’s song, Amazi g’enyama.

There were some very rare models exhibited which included some Volkswagen Beetles. The most noteworthy Beetle on display was one cutie named Percy, owned by Leslie Carvell. According to its owner, Percy is on a charity mission to tour the entire country in efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Uganda Conservation Foundation. The launch held at Kampala Sheraton Hotel, set to introduce Ugandans to different fun and exciting ways to drink whisky, gin, vodka and other premium spirits mixed into one cocktail which is energetic and tasty.

For a drinking fraternity that always thinks drinking spirits is for “hard” and broke people who want to get high quickly, there were a few lessons. The Sundowner campaign will introduce a new drinking concept and culture of having a cocktail as the drink of choice at sunset. ASK RWAMITI
Why do artists get time their concerts
Miles Rwamiti is presenter on NTV’s program ‘Kona ne NTV’. He is an authority on music and Ugandan celebrity lifestyles. Every month we select questions from the public about the music industry for him to answer.
Q& A
W
ell people want to be associated with charities which wasn’t the case before but usually it’s just showbiz. In fact in most cases the artists also need help from charities as some are doing so badly. It does not make sense for an artist to donate twenty million when the artiste needs the money or is also still trying to make ends meet like still looking for fuel or has no car. However, one can always do good deeds even without money. Helping has to be out of the goodness of one’s heart not showbiz. It does not have to be publicized and you do not need an entire media crew following you around as you do good deeds. For instance I know someone who donates eight million every year to orphans. It is not publicized but that is someone doing something out of genuine concern. Also, in other countries doing a charity show does not involve the artiste being at the gate collecting money but here the artiste monitors the gate collection closely.
Artists/Celebrities with genuine concern:
Ask Rwamiti 56 Sept.2014
Bebe Cool genuinely cares about people and has a heart for the suffering. He always helps when he can within his ability. The Ganda boys (former twins) are also very charitable. The music fraternity showed genuine concern and love when Juliana lost her son. Showbiz was put to the side in fact it was more of the

so charitable each are approaching? media that tried to make news out of a sad event. People trash celebrities but some like Frank Gashumba do charitable deeds that blow us away like when he adopted a girl that had been burnt out, the goodness of his heart and raised her like his own.
Can musicians raise awareness or raise funds using their followers? Yes, they can. It’s just that most always have ulterior motives and people are not stupid. They know when “charity” is not so charitable. If our musicians were not always looking to earn during charity events and had noble causes they would be the perfect campaign agents for various causes. To date I know several musicians that have held “charity” concerts and as expected the beneficiaries are yet to receive the proceeds. I will not mention names.
How can our musicians give back? They can go clean the market with their people. They can also clean hospitals or take food and basic needs to the patients. They need to make this a monthly thing and not just a one off. This adds value to the musician and can actually increase fan base and support. It reflects positively on the music fraternity. Like I always say just keep making good music in addition to everything else.
If our musicians were not always looking to earn during charity events and had noble causes they would be the perfect campaign agents for various causes.

Charity Concerts
A Marketing Ploy To Win Over Fans? Today, almost every musician holding a concert in Uganda is branding it a ‘concert for a cause’. Charity concerts, always held to avert a humanitarian crisis have become a passing fad in the music industry; everyone is ‘helping’ some needy people somewhere.

a humanitarian crisis have become a passing fad in the music industry; everyone is ‘helping’ some needy people somewhere. Charity concerts are now popular in Uganda. From Angela Katatumba, Exodus, Maro, Bebe Cool, Halima Namakula, the empathy eliciting concerts have always been there. Juliana Kanyomozi took it a notch higher
MUSIC AND CHARITY If our musicians were not always looking to earn during charity events and had noble causes they would be the perfect campaign agents for various causes. when she held a sell-out charity concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel. Desire Luzinda followed suit and pulled the crowds. For the past two years, Bobi Wine has held charity concerts with wavering prospects and Jose Chameleone will crown them on December 18th when he performs at the One Man One Million concert. He too has promised to send proceeds to some charity. Our singers have now become vanguards for a cause, they are doing NGO work.
Looking for sympathy? According to music promoter Balaam Barugahara, there are many reasons why artistes brand their concerts benefit concerts. In his estimation, it is the easiest way to attract the big wigs to attend. Using Desire Luzinda as an example, he says that there was no way she would have attracted a tenth of the crowd she did, had she not pledged to hand over 25% of her proceeds to Ibanda Hospital and Ibanda Babies home. Whether Desire Luzinda followed up on her pledge, we don’t yet know but she drew the ire of the public when she paraded a brand new car shortly after concert, with hospital officials still waiting on her to live up to her word. “It is true celebrities world over use their fame and fortune to help others. Some have founded their own charities to support the causes closest to their hearts, but in Uganda it is rare,” He explains. 59 Sept.2014
Chano8
According to Balaam, most of the artistes who have held such concerts have not exhibited accountability because, they don’t expect to be asked to give the accountability anyway. He points out Bobi Wine and Angela Katatumba as artistes who have fulfilled their pledges. Bobi Wine through Red Cross gave blankets to flood victims in Kasese while Angela Katatumba gave the war victims in Gulu through the ‘For You Gulu” initiative. “These charity events get tax discounts and are harder to monitor in terms of pure profit by Uganda Revenue Authority. You understand why the pattern can only continue,” he explains. However, Steven Malwadde another promoter with Kilimanjaro media, shares another opinion. He explains that the mark of a faded musician is often manifested in their choice to go for benefit concerts. “If you are not hot enough to get an endorsement deal or get sponsorship, charity is the way to go,” He says. Malwadde notes that for the past two years, Bobi Wine has struggled musically. Rather than stand out like a sore thumb, when other musical heavy weights were releasing hit after hit, he branched to charity and found a willing partner in Red Cross. “Don’t you ask yourself questions, when a business minded guy like Bobi Wine chooses to do charity concerts? He is on a music sabbatical,” He observes. This year, he suffered worse when his ‘Every One concert’, sponsored by Save the Children massively flopped. He has since distanced himself and fired his manager after the flop. Bobi Wine denies these allegations calling them baseless and misguided. Explaining his choice to go for charity concerts he says, “What we do in these concerts is akin to making a noise that policymakers can’t ignore. These concerts galvanise the publicity needed to put pressure on political and other stake holders to act. A concert alone cannot change the world. But a true mass

Halima’s Fistula awareness drive is helping communities movement can,” He explains.
Not all are crafty. The consensus is that not all who do the concerts are looking to rip off unsuspecting fans organizations. Some musicians have since become active ambassadors not by staging concerts, but by involving the higher powers to address pertinent issues. Singer, Halima Namakula the founder Women at Work International (WAWI) recently championed a charity walk to raise awareness about fistula in Uganda. The charity walk held under the theme “Tracking Fistula, Transforming Lives” saw Parliament Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga head the walk, which is now in its second year. Namakula says that it is never about media attention, sympathy or attracting large numbers by playing the emotional card. It is

about using one’s celebrity status to help the needy. “People power can change the world. We have it within us to rally support and raise funds for a cause. I am not in it for the fame or the money. It is etched on my heart since I learnt that Uganda is rated third worldwide as one of the countries with the highest levels of fistula,” she told Chano 8. According to Namakula, who formed Women At Work International in 2003 in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Posta Bank, initiatives like this can serve as a catalyst to help build a genuine movement that can go worldwide. She says that in 2012, Women at Work International launched a fistula project at Jinja Hospital to cater for the affected women in Eastern Uganda. By the end of this year, the NGO intends to have set up camps in Jinja, Fort portal, Masaka and Mulago hospitals.

Congolese super star Koffi Olomide was here for a charity cause
It was the same when Congolese Lingala star, Koffi Olomide performed at Cricket Oval at the invitation of Rotary Uganda. Emmanuel Katongole, the district governor of Rotary District 9211 said that the initiative greatly helped them realize some funds as they look to raise $597134 (USh1.5 billion) to build Uganda’s first private blood bank in the country.
No compassion. Event Security expert, Dixon Okello who has attended most of these concerts says that the compassion most of our musicians convey is plastic and is at best a scam. He says that most of these charity scams are damaging legitimate causes. “Most of these musicians want easy money. There should be a commission of inquiry into these shady concerts. They do not change the 61 Sept.2014
world. They prey on naivety of the public and some should be shunned,” he offers. Internationally, the biggest music scammer is Wyclef Jean through his Hope for Haiti initiative following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The charity once dubbed the country’s greatest ally and asset, collapsed According to reports, the charity’s collapse came after years of accusations of mishandled funds, which amounted to a reported $16 million. Instead of funds going directly to the cause, the organization spent much of its money on “offices, salaries, consultants’ fees and travel,” as well as pay for Jean’s family, friends and defense attorneys. He spent $9 million of their $16 million in donations on office space and salaries and he took $100,000 to perform at a charity concert. What shocked the Western media was the allegation that he paid over $100,000 to a mistress.

We started off small with in-bar activations like Chameleone at Cheri, street jams (which are not small on any level anymore), unplugged at Club Silk, album launches and indoor concerts which we have taken to the highest level possible. Entertainment hit a low after the July 11th bombing at Kyandondo Rugby Grounds. Nobody really wanted to go out anymore. A year later we decided to liven up the entertainment industry and brought Sean Kingston to Uganda. That was massive! We brought Sean Paul the year after that. As the biggest supporter of local music, we created the Club Video Music Awards to spotlight good videos. We had the best in the industry as judges and videos were critiqued based on quality. The competition is on. Some of our videos can now compete on an international level! Club is always about what’s fresh and Mega Fest is what’s up now! We’re moving forward and not looking back…we have no side mirrors! We do not believe in repeating our selves. We’ve been brewing this for over a year and it will give our local artists to perform with the big stars.

Shaggy has stood the test of time and most of us in Uganda can relate to him. Mafikizolo is just bringing a different twist. We might not understand the lyrics but the beats get us on our feet. Then Patra…hmmm….that throws a spanner in the works but if you partied in the nineties then you know what’s up. Everyone will find their niche somewhere in this mix. It’s all about having a blast. Then we have Uganda’s best local talent, the likes of Chameloene, Bebe Cool, Maro, Cindy, Golden Band, Ragga Dee, Sheeba, Khalifa, Big eye, Coco Finger, Vampino, Yung mulo, Ziza Bafana, Gravity O and Djs like Apeman, Babylove, Crim plus comedians Salvador and Alex Muhangi. Brian Ahumuza aka Abryanz is a Businessman, stylist with a kind heart. He had an exclusive chat with Chano8 about his journey from a village boy to top city stylist Chano8: Please tell us about Abryanz. Who is Abryanz?

My full names are Brian Ahumumuza. I am a Businessman, Stylist and a Social worker I am 24 years old. I was born and raised in Masindi district, a Munyoro by tribe. I studied from Masindi and went to Lake College, Asaba, Bugema Adventist School and finally Kyambogo University although I never completed my course and therefore did not graduate. I am single and not planning to get involved in a relationship soon.
Chano8: What is Abryanz Collection and when did you start?
Chano8: Tell us about your family and early childhood memories and life in Masindi
So as luck would have it, I landed on my first job at HUEWEI Technologies as a cleaner. And because of my passion to dress well and look good, I always went to downtown Owino market to look for nice second-hand clothes and also partly to hide the fact that i was working as a cleaner in my new job.
I come from a polygamous family and my father who is still alive in Masindi has very many children. I do not even know some of my siblings. I was raised by my Maternal auntie after my mother passed on. Life in Masindi was fine and just normal for a school going kid. I do not remember any weird things while growing up although I noticed I had a sense

Abryanz collection is a business entity. How it started is a long story but I will try to break it down. It all started after my senior six when I moved from Masindi to Kampala during my Vacation in 2008. I had a strong desire to work and immediately I started looking for a job to be independent.
However the more I dressed smartly, the more everyone around me became interested in knowing my secret. Some of my colleagues who admired my style at work started sending me to buy for them clothes where I did my

It is from this, that I thought I could make some more bucks if I brought clothes and sold to my workmates in office. so I took it on and started selling clothes for my colleagues. And because of my smartness and hard work my new bosses were impressed and promoted me to the post of front desk receptionist, administrator and then Transport officer in a short time. From the little money I was saving courtesy of my new post, I was able to increase on my stock and even acquire a small stall in Prime complex where I was sub renting. I also took advantage of my new post to distribute my clothes to other clients. As the business grew bigger, I started getting challenges because I had alot to do, so I decided to quit in 2011. The business then grew and I opened another shop at JBK plaza. When I met Zari Hassan who had a Jewellery shop at Garden city, she advised me to move there and I took the risk and gave it a try. In September 2013 I moved into my new home at Garden city.
Chano8: What is your inspiration and drive behind the project? I actually don’t have particular people whom i can say inspired me, I would rather refer to it as a calling. I feel it is something natural driven by passion and of course talent.

Chano8: We saw your ‘Dress for Success campaign’ in the media. What exactly is it about? Every year we choose a theme for our Fashion awards. And this year’s theme happens to be ‘Dress for Success’. And we run activities as a build up to the final event and one such activity, is the one that you have seen in the media where we organise photo shoots for celebrities as an awareness campaign especially targeting the youth to inspire them to dress well, change attitudes about dressing and smartness. We also want to pass on the message that looks have lasting impressions on people and therefore dressing well can impact on one’s lifestyle and career. We have already featured some big names like DJ Bush

Baby, Golola Moses, Weasel and Radio among others.
Chano8: Who are your clients and what products do you specialise in? We mostly deal in Gents wear. Our main targets are men especially those who care about their looks and style. Our downtown shop targets the youth and those who love ‘swag’ and urban dressing. While in Garden city, we target the classy clients, corporate and the laid back dressers. The reason we have expanded at Garden city is also to allow our clients who prefer privacy to feel at home while shopping. Those who feel inconvinienced while downtown.
Chano8: Where do you shop for your products and what is your price range? I started from downtown Kampala especially in Owino, but now I shop from China, Dubai, Thailand, and Turkey among others. I plan to go to new places like France and US soon. As for Price ranges, it depends on quality and demand of the product but usually on average we charge; 50,000/= to 500,000/= for Shirts, 30,000/= to 200,000/= for T-Shirts, 60,000/= to 600,000/= for Pants (Trousers, Jeans), 100,000/= to 1.5M for Blazers, Jackets, coats, 700,000/= to 3M for Suits, 100,000/= to 1.5M for Shoes, 10,000/= above for accessories
I started from downtown Kampala especially in Owino, but now I shop from China, Dubai, Thailand, and Turkey among others. I plan to go to new places like France and US soon. Chano8: What have you achieved so far ever since you started the business? I have managed to build myself a respectable brand. This has also given me the opportunity to meet very important people in society and interact with celebrities some of whom I admired in my childhood. I also feel honoured when students invite me for their (fashion related) school functions either as a judge or guest of honor. At an early age, I have also managed to support my family and provide for my siblings and live a decent life.
Chano8: How about any challenges faced ? I faced a big challenge in life when I gave people too much audience who in turn let me down by pumping negative energy into me. The people you listen to like relatives, workmates and friends can sometimes bring you down. This is what almost happened to me.
Chano8: Any message to your Chano8: Beside Fashion and Style, fans, clients and chano8 readers? what else do you do? I am a businessman, I run the Abryanz collections, Organise fashion shows and Fashion Awards and I also run the Abryanz charity Foundation where we donate items to vulnerable and needy people twice a year. I usually involve my celebrity friends in donating items, food, clothing and medication.

Yes I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years and contributed to what I am today. My Family, Friends, you the media people and my clients. Thank you. Meet Ugandan Song Writer and Artist
NINCE
HENRY Henry Sekyanzi Ninsiima aka Nince Henry is one of Uganda’s top song writers. He has written many chart topping songs for various artists.
Hello My name is Nince Henry. Aka Sekyanzi Ninsiima Henry. I was born in mukono and I grew up in kampala. I studied in mukono, kampala then jinja for my A level. Then I went to Kampala international university for Bachelor of Business Administration.
How it started I started songwriting when I was in O level but then I was more interested in the western music so I was writing rhymes (hip hop lyrics) After my A level in 2009, I started writing luganda music. My first first luganda song to be written was called OMUKWANO GUNYUMA by Samali Matovu. It did pretty well.
80 Sept.2014
Writing a hit A hit song is the song that the majority has fallen in love with. It must be a good song. Agood song is a result of perfect lyrical arrangement, perfect instrumentation, and the perfect vocals to it. The first two are my responsibility and the third one is what I require from the singer. once we combine all the three perfectly, then we have a “good song” After that its marketing. How good the artist markets the song will determine the level of popularity it will gain hence a “hit song” or a mediocre song. You will say that I am a hit maker because I make sure that a song written by me has the best lyrical content and arrangement, the best production and the best vocals or has been sang perfectly. That is so primary. The other factors are constant.

I must know the singer first. But in a case where the singer jumped onto a song that wasn’t written for them but just liked it, it’s a challenge.
The demand is very high and I choose who to work with. I am paid very well.I look forward to working with everyone whether I have worked with them before or not. I go all the way until when the song has been accepted as a completed recorded single.
The market changes every now and then. So that’s also another challenge in determining which style and topic will catch the audience.
Themes I read alot. I watch movies. All that plus more will give you a theme some day somewhere. The target audience of that particular song will determine the theme or topic to some extent.
Inspiration Not in Uganda. It’s Babyface. He wrote and produced over 500 hits in the 90s. 82 Sept.2014
Last word For all aspiring writers, keep doing good work.Be principled because you are responsible for the making up of that star singer. Singers sing songs but you make the songs. The target audience of that particular song will determine the theme or topic to come.

PATRICK NYANZI
Patrick Nyanzi Reinvented When one mentions the name Patrick Nyanzi my mind automatically drifts to the good old days of Ngoni.
T
heir music had a zouk medley that one couldn’t help but groove to and the lyrics…oh the lyrics! Songs like Digi, Bigula and Nasima Gwe bring nostalgic memories to many.
catch up with Patrick and here are excerpts from our interview:
Fast forward to 2014…Patrick Nyanzi made a U-Turn and he owes it all to the Grace of God. He’s since gotten married, been blessed with a beautiful daughter and he will not sing a song unless all the glory goes to God. He has been busy in studio. Chano8 was able to
I have mostly been trying to find myself. I have been seeking God for guidance on who Patrick Elvis Nyanzi is and what he wants me to do. I had to get a relationship with God. You can even say I was almost an atheist as I didn’t know God existed.
84 Sept.2014
Patrick, what have you been up to over the last couple of years?
PATRICK NYANZI I have also been doing some audio work with Good Enuff Studio and film work with Elite Media. I worked with Radio and Weasel on Bwogeza Nondekawo and Tonjagala and with Jamal on Saba Kyosaba. I also worked on More Money by Ngoni.

Any hobbies?
I stopped working on other people’s projects in 2012 and began my journey to self discovery.
I love swimming, painting and playing video games with my daughter. She is a genius and beats me most of the time. I love taking leisure walks from Makindye to the city. It’s such a stress reliever. I love dancing and singing even more now because I do it for the Lord. I especially love singing at worship night every Wednesday.
When did this change happen and what inspired you?
Do you have any concerts coming up or where can we catch you performing?
The miracle of my baby girl inspired me to seek God. I wanted to be the best father I could possibly be. People become fathers everyday but for some reason I started questioning many things in 2010 when she was born. Also, life threw me a few punches here and there that made me realize I could no longer trust me and needed God. Sometimes the least expected things can create the biggest impact.
No concerts planned yet but I do perform at weddings and other private events.
What else do you do? Do you still have a recording studio? I still work with Good Enuff producing music and with Elite Media for film production. It’s what I do best and that’s not going to change. I also write songs.
What can your fans expect from you? What projects do you have coming up? I have a few songs out so far and I am still in studio. My favourite song is ‘Ndi Wa Dembe’ which means I am at peace. It has a reggae feel to it and is playing on most TV stations. I love it because it reflects my current state. I have never been happier or more at peace. My calling is still as an artiste and in addition to worship songs I will do love songs but not with the Ngoni style lyrics. They will be mature songs about positive things that encourage people and celebrate life. My new style is gospel/contemporary. I love the reinvented Patrick Nyanzi and I’m sure you will

Uganda’s Talent Exposed King Saha is one of Uganda’s top rising stars. His song Mulirwana (neighbour) has taken the Ugandan airwaves by storm. He is also planning a mega concert to celebrate his breakthrough
Chano8 spent an afternoon with the smooth talking Saha to know more about the singer Who is King Saha? My real names are Semanda Mansur, I am a devoted Muslim. I am a singer and actually I was told that I started singing the minute I was born because the first sound I made was a yell ‘yeeah!!!’ so my mother suspected it from an early age that I would be a singer. I went to St. Agnes Primary school where I was asked to sing for the church choir in Mugonga I was the best in traditional folk song competition in Mpigi District and I was awarded a bursary to complete school there. I never stopped writing songs and singing it was my passion and came as second 86 Sept.2014
nature to me. My first song that got air play with the help of my manager Sam Mukasa and producer Diddy was ‘signal’ followed by ‘Tonjiwa’, ‘kampala anthem, vimba’ ft gravity, ‘Gundezze’, ‘Onkubba’ , ‘Tamale’, ‘Suzaana’, ‘komawo’, and ‘mulirwana’. Most of the challenges faced were personal but rest are the usual like competition and the massive demand.
Why did you leave Leon Island? I worked with Leon Island, I don’t have much to say about that because I mainly worked with Sam Mukasa. I left Leon Island because I had grown as a brand and most of my shows were far away from the rest of the crew so I decided to break apart.
Who has helped you along the way to getting to the success that you are receiving with your music today?

Pallaso.
So is King Saha single or in a relationship? I don’t like to talk about that but I think women are not in my plan,I am still looking for money so no relationships for now. I had a girlfriend named Betty before but we broke up when she left the country.
What is happening this year for King? I have a concert this month at Labonita on the 26th where I will be performing my music and the other songs that I love and consider my favorites. I have a number of guest artists too. I am working on a lot of songs
Who has inspired you in the industry both local and international artists? I am inspired by songs that have meanings like Bobi Wine’s song ‘Adam and Kawa’ which speaks volumes to me. Internationally I am inspired by the late Lucky Dube I was inspired by his music a lot. I would like to work with Busy Signal because he is versatile.
Other than music what else do you do? And your hobbies? I am a farmer. I have a farm in Rakai. I grow maize and own fish ponds and also run a number of businesses. I also have a music Record Label named King’s Love. I am also involved in the building of a Mosque in Entebbe. how they feel. Life is too short. The song was done by Jib Records.
Ever since you did a collabo with Gravity on ‘Vimba’ have you done any new collabos? Yes I have. A lot is planned for this year am doing songs with Daimond (T.Z), Ragga Dee , Sheeba, AK 47 and a song called Suzanna with 89 Sept.2014
Is it true artists are paying radio presenters to play their songs on radio? I don’t like to comment on that because I believe it is a falling out between one artist and presenter that should not involve everyone. I have never paid for my songs to be played but I guess it happens. Some people can afford to pay and others who are actually talented cannot afford it.

Where Are They?
Emperor Orlando
Orlando started being called an emperor back in the early ‘90s when fans bought his tapes to listen to his partner, Menton Summer.
H
is solo career started after the unfortunate death of Menton Summer and since then he struggled to make it big in the music industry.
But that all changed when he released the ‘Nakonkona’ song. The song was so vibrant that when you started playing it you just have to leave it on repeat mode. Nakonkona is probably one of the most recognized songs of Emperor Orlando. When that monster of a hit came out at the time, it took the radio airwaves by storm as most song requests through from the young or old just begged for the song to be played. If that wasn’t enough, it was a major club hit as several hangouts played the song to entice the party goers.
As a pioneer in the Ugandan music industry, Orlando made a comeback in 2010 by releasing a 17 track album titled ‘Zimala Zigenda’. Some tracks received massive air play on most radio stations, especially the title track Zimala Zigenda. But since then Orlando has been on silent spree the last we heard, he was doing some work with Dembe FM. And oh, those trade mark dread locks are no more.
This song is so legendary as it had several students in high school bumping their heads up and down while others had the courtesy of performing it during the dance classes with everyone showcasing their uncoordinated dance moves. Nakonkona which is about a cheating wife was basically a message to the ladies to stay loyal to their husbands no matter the situation they are in, whether broke or not. Orlando who is a great performer once left Arua Fans ecstatic as many ululated when he stepped on stage. Nakonkona being his major hit, had to be presented more than thrice as fans kept screaming ‘Again.’

OR A CELEBRITY SKIN Turmeric Who knew that Indian spices play a role in giving you good skin. Well turmeric increases blood circulation and in turn makes you glow, reduces acne and blemishes.
Cabbage When you think Vitamin C you think oranges, strawberries and anything fruity. Cabbage is a surprising source of vitamin C. In fact it has more vitamin C than oranges. Cabbage also has vitamin A. These two vitamins will ensure that your skin does not quickly and will reduce wrinkles.
Peppers The key to youthful skin is hydration and fighting acne and wrinkles. Red and yellow peppers contain certain antioxidants that lower the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and decrease the formation of wrinkles especially round the eyes. Now we are telling you to eat well but do not forget to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Also, pampering yourself with a few facials every now and then will not do any harm. Hey! You can even fake it with a really good make-up artist. Now off to the market you go!

She talked to chano8 about life and music. Tell chano8 about Jackie the artiste. What genre of music do you do? What else does Jackie do besides singing and performing? I started off singing in the Worship team at Kansanga Miracle Centre, after a while I came to the first line and then backup. My breakthrough came when I sang “My redeemer lives” which was well received by the audience at church and from then on I became unstoppable. I sang my first solo in 2009 and my first recorded track was a duet called “Gyogenda” with Alice Kyobe. This is on the Gyogenda album which includes songs like Nandibadewa and Yanwanira. Now about Netaga gwe, who wrote the song? What inspired the song? What is the story behind this song? Any personal experiences behind the making of the song? About Netagagwe, it was written by Ray Signature. I admit to have been quite reluctant to do the song as it was a different beat and not within my usual genre. I was not so sure it would be a hit as such I took unusually long to finalise the song. However, I was won over by the richness of the lyrics and the fact that the song speaks to life’s challenges. But also I got encouraged by DKing the producer. The backup vocals were done by Hawa Musa and the video by Rosa Uganda.

STUDIO DIARY
How different is the Netaga gwe song from The other songs you have done in the past? What does it have to offer to the audience, what message/experience do you intend to share with the listeners of this song? First of all Netagagwe was written by another writer, I had written all my previous songs. Also it was written by someone that normally writes secular music and that partly explains my initial reluctance to do the song. Otherwise it is a wonderfully produced song by DKing who is slowly making his mark in the Ugandan music industry. The message to the listeners is that, God is able to take you through any of life challenges. He is not limited unlike our fellow human beings. It encourages people to hold firmly to God who is able to help us overcome any of life’s situations. Who produced this song and what did it take? How long did it take you to produce this song? What is the budget estimate for making a song like Netaga gwe right from script to final mastering? The song was produced by David in DKing studios. Production took a week and a half mostly due to my laziness and reluctance. Being that it was the first time and Ray was trying to encourage me to do the song. He only charged me UGX 500,000 for it. Also then DKing was still relatively unknown so he only charged me UGX 300,000. Infact at Uganda Shillings 1,500,000 the video cost much more than production. What challenges do you face in doing your music and bringing it into the public? The biggest challenge for Gospel artistes is finances to do good recording, videos and promotion. Gospel artistes will get paid less than secular artistes for the same performance or

Performances are artistes’ main source of income, so when they are paid less but expected to give the same quality of music, it becomes unfair. Also to maintain the standard once you have done a good song, the public expects you to continue producing hits and so the pressure is high. What does Jackie have in store for her fans and audience in the future? How do you see your music evolving and going to the next level? I am going to continue to experiment with different genres of music and videos. I am also hoping to do a church tour later in the year as well as do more collaborations with other artistes.

Relationship
I met this girl 3 months and we fell in love and have been going out since. Problem is she told me recently she is 4 months pregnant. I don’t know if i should keep this relationship or end it. I love this girl but she is having another man’s baby?”
W
ell that is a tough one. There are a lot of follow up questions to this situation but I believe with love all is possible. Am not being a romantic or optimistic but I believe she waited 3 months to see if the relationship with you was going somewhere before bringing this ‘Big’ news to you and now the ball is in your court to either end the relationship or continue it. By telling you her situation simply means she wants to be with you and build something with you. I commend her for honesty most young women would have told you it is your baby. Dating a pregnant girl has its complications and is regarded as a lot of work. A lot has to be considered like where the biological father is and why is he not in the picture? Will he be a problem in the future? All these are questions need to be answered. What will your role be in her life, a boyfriend, and father to her baby or even husband in the future? 102 May 2014
Dating a pregnant girl has its complications and is regarded as a lot of work. A lot has to be considered like where the biological father is and why is he not in the picture? will he be a problem in the future? All these are questions that need answers to be answered. It takes a lot for a man to take on the responsibility you’re faced with but where there is love there is away. I can understand when a man walks away from such a situation because it’s a lot to take on. If you really love this girl then you can work it out. It won’t be easy but for love its worth it.
Dilema W
His Take
ell what you have on yourself is a situation that will require more common sense than feelings that your heart may be palpitating with. First off I don’t know how old you are and whether you are ready to be a stepfather if you choose to continue with this relationship. You need to have a concrete plan of how you will take care of this woman and her baby. This is because once you assume this responsibility, it wont be very easy to negate the same. Successful parenting needs one to tighten their boots and be ready for the challenge because it is not a walk in the park. Also this is likely to be further complicated by the fact that the child in question is not biologically yours. You will therefore lack the natural bond with the child that a father experiences while interacting with his child. Do not be fooled. This bond is very important. It is what binds parents to their children and makes them go to great lengths to provide and nurture a growing child. Unfortunately that feeling of ‘I will do anything for my son or daughter ’ may be missing from your relationship. That last thing you want to do is assume responsibility for this child then breakaway midway after reality hitting home. So give it careful consideration.
Secondly, you need to find out exactly happened with your woman and her past relationship. Why did she leave the man and what kind of relationship does she have with him now. You need to be certain this relationship is over and done with before you take drastic steps of co parenting with this her. You do not want to be involved in a triangular scenario where you take on another mans responsibility yet, their old flame is still burning and probably they occasionally get intimate behind your back. You also need to realize that most successful relationships start from a clean slate without too much outstanding baggage. Everyone may have 103Sept.2014
a little baggage that they bring into a relationship, but then again, some baggage is too much. What you have here is excess baggage. A newborn child is not something that is going to go away anytime you feel like it’s a little too much. They are here to stay. This is also likely to complicate things between the two of you because there is going to be a third party that needs to be given consideration in most decisions that the two of you will make. I believe successful parents are those that are initially in a solid relationship and are prepared for any pregnancy that may result due to their shared life. Lastly, you have known this woman for only three months and you relationship is still in its formative stage. It is way too early to start thinking long term considering the circumstances. What you need to do is give it a shot because you clearly care about her but do not rush into anything. Let her have her baby and see how things play out. Before you take a step this drastic you need to know each other well. Give it at least a year and a half or a year if you are in a hurry. But desist from blindly rushing into things simply because of the emotions that you feel. As you go along you will realize that Love is more of a choice and less of feelings. This is the realization that all mature couples come to realize after years of relating. Remember to be rational as you make your decision.

Movie Review
The movie is more of a comedy rather than a relationship guide this time round and is guaranteed to leave you grasping for air in laughter.
Now Showing In Cinemas THINK LIKE A MAN TOO In the highly anticipated sequel to Steve Harvey’s celebrated book “Think like a man” which had a movie follow up in 2012, Think like a man too brings back the old crew including the hilarious Kevin Hart that narrates the story as seen in the first one. The movie is more of a comedy rather than a relationship guide this time round and is guaranteed to leave you grasping for air in laughter. The movie setting is in Las Vegas where we catch up on all the couples’ relationships since ‘think like a man’ as they are there to witness their friends’ Candace (Regina Hall) and Michael (Terrence Jenkins), the mama’s boy tie the knot. This time there is no Harvey play book as they take on Vegas, the guys try to have the best bachelor party and the girls try to do the same inspite of the mother in law from hell. The movie kind of reminds us of ‘the hungover’ and ‘Bridesmaids’. It is quite predictable but we sure all the comedy fans will love this one as well as everyone that liked the first movie. 110Sept.2014

This is something very few artists if any have done in the music industry in Uganda. Most artists publicise their music shows or concerts as ‘Album launches’ when in actual sense they have no album to launch. Some even shamelessly go ahead and auction fake CDs disguised as ‘Albums’ to their fans as a means of raising funds. He is called Fazik the Base guitarist. 114Sept.2014
The Gagamel Band has ever since its formation in 2005, grown to be one of the leading live Bands in Uganda. It prides itself with members who commit themselves wholesomely to the project. Bebe Cool The hardwork and dedication invested in the project is clearly manifested in their tunes. One cannot help but, admire the level of commitment and loyalty these young men and women have exhibited to the cause. It is these qualities that have made the band stand the storms and taste of time all through the years. “We had challenges while forming the Gagamel Band at the beginning because some members wanted instant fame and financial rewards from being a Band Member. They did not understand the dynamics of the entertainment industry and got frustrated”. Bebe Cool explained to Chano8 “We had to recruit again and this time, the crop of members understood our journey and direction that we want to take. Jose Chameleone And Leila Kayondo The song that was produced by Washington, was an instant club hit with FM radios following suit. Since then, the months of June and July saw it spread like wild fire with fans of both artists crying for a video for the Dance hall song. After rumours of hesitations from Chameleone (Apparently he had refused to do the video and only relented after Leila’s boyfriend SK Mbuga intervened), the video was finally shot mid July by Savvy Films and directed by Sasha Vybz at SMS ONE offices in Kololo and The Bay in Munyonyo Kampala. The video scenes oscillate from night club partying to a beach setting, then bonfire and camping to just having a leisure ride in a luxurious car. It all starts in a boardroom meeting where ‘serious corporates’ are discussing their business plans and strategies. With the attendants nodding in agreement when Leila the presenter ‘hits a point.’ It then rolls into a frenzy of fun as they start the party right in the boardroom after probably ‘nailing a deal’. I must confess though the boardroom intro is a little uncomfortable especially with Leila’s presentation looking awkward and rehearsed. The rest is the crafty work of a genius in play as Sasha adds color and pomp to the party, giving it life and the natural setting and surrounding Leila is comfortable in. She leads the dancing with the other vixens just giving the relaxing atmosphere as the camera movements and angles exaggerate the dance moves to ease the efforts of the dancers and clubbers. In all it’s a well packaged video for a very good song. 119Sept.2014
