There were also electric performances from rapper Ruyonga, Maro, The Mith, Nutty Neithan, Naava Grey, Joanita Kawalya, Benezeri, Maddox and Qute Kaye.

The event started out low key with performances from Sauti Ya Africa who showed off their amazing vocal capabilities, then up came Ritchy, who got some fans excited even though he performed only about 3 songs.

When Jc Muyonjo took to the stage little did the fans know that there was a surprise in store until a 40:40 organising member walked on stage and put on a massive performance. Their chemistry was clicking for everyone to see, one could feel they did a lot of rehearsals for the show because they were so in sync it’s no wonder they received massive ululations throughout.

25

But it was legendary Afrigo band singer Joanita Kawalya who brought down

the roof at the charity event. When the ‘Jim Wange’ singer took to the stage, fans couldn’t help but ululate as the singer brought back childhood memories with her songs like’ Namagembe’. She took the event to unprecedented heights that had her young fans flood the front of the stage and show off their old school dance moves. With Maddox closing the event, one couldn’t have hoped for a better ending, it’s like Jamaica was brought down to the museum because everybody was doing the famous Jamrock dance. Maddox’s performance was that crazy and even forced some fans to jump on stage to ‘just dance with the star’ while others specifically wanted to take selfies. It’s really amazing to know that all the artists that performed did it for free, that’s how committed they are to making a difference in a child’s life. All the proceeds that 40 days over 40 smiles collected will go to building a dormitory for the Elohim school.

In June this year, a new and exciting digital media publishing platform was officially unveiled to the public at stake holder’s workshop in Hotel Africana Kampala. The Unique digital publishing platform which is a first of its kind was unveiled to children and parents in the East African Region.

T

he exciting platform called Mixakids, is a platform mainly for creative writing and publishing where children write books for other children to read and share knowledge and different life experiences. The project which is an innovation and brain child of Speeda Mobile Ltd (East Africa) the parent company to SMS ONE and www. chano8.com, seeks to enhance children’s Literacy (reading & writing) skills, Usage of ICT and other digital resources, Entrepreneurship skills through creative writing, financial inclusion & literacy. Mr. David Mushabe the Regional Director of Mixakids while unveiling the project recently said “MixaKids project is innovatively crafted to address some of challenges related to children’s access and usage of digital content and other ICT resources which allows children to participate in developing their own content for the platform in a participative approach that ensures sustainable interest among children in the platform”

34

Chano8. August 2015

So when D-Day for the launch came , on July 20th 2015 all roads were leading direct to Uganda Musuem where the MixaKids Expo took place. It was also the official launch of the platform. Excited children turned up in big numbers to witness the historical event which was as engaging and colourful as they get. With some pupils selected to take their colleagues through the process of how the website works and how parents can be registered on the platform. Activities of the day were delayed by a heavy morning downpour although most guests and children were not moved and embraced the chilly morning shower which ended at around 11:00 AM before Uncle Mixa Mr. Joshua Kibedi Welcomed the guests. There were presentations and exhibitions from different companies and the Mixakids team had a demo for the website www.mixakids.com, there was also 3D animations and robotics as well as books desplay from some Publishing houses. Pupils from different schools entertained the crowd and participated in reading and drawing competitions.

While singer Bebe Cool made a surprise appearance to the excitement of the children. But it was Uganda’s queen of comedy Anne Kansiime who left so many fans especially children ecstatic at the national museum with her funny antics and jokes. Kansiime who is also a Mixakids ambassador was encouraging children and their parents to embrace the new exciting platform for kids that aim at enhancing their ICT and entrepreneurship skills among others. She got fans ululating when she stepped on stage and immediately called a P.2 pupil on stage to narrate her own unique story. The highlight of her performance came when she danced to her song ‘My name is Kansiime’ that got the kids screaming in joy while others battled to join her on stage for a dance session as the children followed her everywhere.

Many children won different items at the end of the successful Expo which will now become an annual event

And after a long delay that got the MCs in trouble with the fans, the long awaited moment came as Sauti Sol finally entered on stage and straight away kicked off their one-and-half non-stop performances with songs like like ‘Still the One’, Awinja, ’Coming Home’ ‘Money Lover’, ‘Nishike’

When the group had a chance to interact with the crowd, lead singer Baraza said they had come to Kampala to get wives as Ugandan girls are very beautiful and lovely. However, the touching song ‘Nerea’ that is against abortion got many people teary as they sang along with Polycarp Otieno plucking the magical tunes on his guitar. The crowd then joined the Sura Yako dance craze with the crew showing them the simple steps 'TTo the left...to the right...turn around...' as they followed about three times till when the show closed at around 1:30AM

fter Eddy Ekenzo won the BET award, many of his fans took to social media to celebrate the win and congratulate the ‘Sitya Loss’ star while mocking some of the other artistes especially Bebe Cool for ‘not winning an international award’ and I think this was wrong and immature of them. I know Eddy Kenzo and Bebe Cool fans have been at logger heads especially after the latter referred to the former as an ‘Upcoming artiste’ which angered Eddy kenzo and his fans but Bebe Cool has since stood his ground and explained that his reference to Kenzo as an ‘Upcoming artiste’ did not have any ill connotation but actually was meant to compliment him for his fast and steady rise to stardom. Now the debate is on and people are talking especially after Bebe Cool’s explanations fell on deaf ears with Kenzo’s fans and some sections of the media taunting him after he failed to win the MTV award for best video.

Ask Rwamiti 76

Chano8. August 2015

First of all I would like to congratulate my brother Kenzo for having won the award. This is something very big and important for him and Uganda at large. Because this the first of its kind in East Africa and we are proud of that. However the claims that this makes him Uganda’s biggest artiste is a big Joke. He certainly is not yet among the top most artistes though he has the potential to be. He still has a long way to go

ASK RWAMITI Chano8

KENZO THE BEST?

Kenzo received a Heroes welcome back home after winning BET award

For me I think Kenzo still has a long way to go before he can be referred to as a top artiste in Uganda. Yes the win is a big achievement for him but certainly does not make him the biggest nor propel him above the likes of Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon or even Bobi Wine. To be a top artiste or one of the best, it has to do with consistence and longevity in the industry with an artiste expected to maintain good music for a long period of time of over ten years.. Take for instance Moses Matovu and his Afrigo band; they have been con-

sistent for over 3 decades and still going strong. Now that is consistence and can be classified as top. A top artiste has to work hard and maintain his status by pulling big crowds year in and year out for concerts as he makes his fans happy both at home and abroad with good quality music as well as big number of songs But also the media in Uganda has a problem because most of the journalists are not professional as they fuel these feuds. They spend most of the time gossiping instead of doing research on issues.

NOT YET TOP BET Winner Kenzo not yet in Chameleone, Bebe Cool’s league. There has been a lot of debate following Kenzo's BET award win and our we present what experts think on the Eddy Kenzo BET win for the newly introduced International viewer’s choice award. an international award.'

W

hen Eddy Kenzo defied odds to become the first Ugandan to win a BET award, he set a fertile ground for debate. Was he now regarded the number one artiste in Uganda after willing the award? Did the award make him bigger than Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone, who weeks later failed at the MTV Africa Music Awards? Kenzo, being the modest musician was quick to quash the notion that he was now “Big Size”. Instead, he consoled them by saying that being nominated in MTV MAMAs is an achievement in itself and that Chameleone and Bebe Cool were already winners. “Chameleone and Bebe Cool are big. I am only grateful that I learnt from the best.” He said on social media. However, Ugandan music promoter and former Chameleone confidant, Sipapa of Sipapa Entertainment threw a spanner in the works. He revealed that Kenzo is better than Chameleone.

78

Chano8. August 2015

Although he never gave his parameters he said: “Thank God I crossed over early enough. I could see it coming. Chameleone was sinking in the drain and Kenzo was hard working, see he is now on top of his game. His award says it all and I have nothing to say of Chameleone,” The timing of the comment is however not entirely shocking since they recently had a public spat over money issues. Until recently, Sipapa supported Chameleone financially. When Chano 8 contacted him over the claims he gave his reasons. He says that when Kenzo got and won the BET the nomination, it put him miles ahead of the famed big artistes. “It may not necessarily be about the award, but Kenzo can use the BET privilege to network, or collaborate with

producers, artistes plus distribution and marketing experts who are international,” He believes that in the next five years, his prophecy will come to pass. “These guys (Chameleone and Bebe Cool are not settled. They are jealous as Kenzo concentrates on his music,” he opines. However according to music critic Joseph Batte, there is nothing like number one artiste and bagging an award doesn’t necessarily make someone big overnight. He uses Pastor Okudi’s example to try and solve this looming debate. In 2003, Pastor George Okudi brought home two Kora Awards for Best East African Male Artist and Best African Male Artist (thanks to his gospel song Wipolo)beating the

critics are keenly following. He however has a huge mountain to climb before making it into the top three artistes.

• Musicians’ success is hard to define According to Batte, there is no onesize-fits-all definition of success for an artist because artistes have different goals and each uses different metrics to define success. However, artistic achievement, recognition financial stability and

finding a balance in between all those attributes can qualify one to be described as big. Chameleone for instance has become a pop idol in Africa with several of his songs popular on radio, in bars and clubs all over the continent. He is generally credited with the rejuvenation of popular local music. Bebe Cool not only has a repertoire of songs spanning many years, he is a musical inspiration to many and has one of the biggest legion of fans.

Bebe Cool with his children during last years 'Best of Bebe Cool' concert

His popularity came to the fore when he held a sell-out concert “Friends of Bebe Cool” last year at Kampala Serena Hotel. A repeat is on the cards this year and if preevent hype is anything to go by, a repeat crowd is on the cards for his repeat concert on August 7th. “We should also consider the time they have spent honing their craft in studio. Both Chameleone and Bebe Cool are known for being around for decades and producing excellent music. I insist, it isn’t about awards,” He explains. He further argues that for some artistes, the prospect of an award or critical praise of their work is more important than any monetary gain. However, since our music industry is so competitive and money driven, it would be foolhardy for a person like Kenzo to bask in his BET Award glory than benefit from it financially.

81

Chano8. August 2015

• Kenzo should enjoy his shine. According to Batte, if we are to speak of musical success, Kenzo is amazing and almost there. He should enjoy his shine as he has earned it. For someone who sprouted from nothing, he is by far one of our biggest music exports. He has visited over 15 states in the US. He has visited different cities across the globe.

He has performed at Africa Cup of Nations. He had attracted attention of busy, big celebrities around the world, including endorsement from Akon and more importantly, he is a Ugandan BET Award pioneer winner. No one, even Bebe Cool and Chameleone can take that away from him. We are watching his next musical projects keenly!

STAR TALK

MBABAZI

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL CLUB MANAGER, EVENTS PROMOTER AND FASHION ICON AND Lillian Mbabazi is a Ugandan Afro-Pop and Soul musician. She was a member of girl group Blu*3 and recently featured in season one and two of "Coke Studio Africa. Lillian started doing professional music in 2003 after the Coca Cola Pop star competitions that led to the formation of Blu*3.Together with her Blu3, they went onto win many awards and received international acclaim and recognition. Qn: Tell us about your transition from Blu3 to Lilian Mbabazi the Solo Artiste? It has been exciting but also challenging especially coming from a situation where you have a support system where you had two girls to lean on in difficult times when doing things incase you are having say a bad day. Blu3 had become something that was part of our lives having been together for almost seven years to coming to being Lilian Mbabazi the Solo artiste where everyone is looking at you was never going to be easy. It was quite challenging and took me quite a while that’s why i took on the band(The Sundaowners) because i needed a new support system and so far so good because i have enjoyed myself and discovered myself musically and do music that i really can be able to enjoy and its been fun. I love band music and i feel it was something important to add to my CV because i learnt so many new things in the process. It was a way to express myself and also become a better musician and show people what i am made of. Qn How do you describe your music style as Lilian Mbabazi? I would like to call myself a versatile artiste that i can prtty much think or do what i want with musicbut mostly i love Afro-soul, with a little bit of RnB twinge to it. I would simply call it Afro-soul. Its music that you are not going to hear playing say in

night clubs. But its doing well in its own way with inspiration drawn from Maurice Kyria who does something similar and he’s doing well. Its music that lasts and not something you’re’ going to listen to for two month and get tired. I recorded Kawa 4-5 years ago and even when I play it now every one goes everything is kawa kawa. Qn.You are now a mother which seems to be another big transition. How has this impacted on yoyr music and life in general Yes It has been a big transition. Before i became a mother, i used to be a party girl. I loved to party and have fun. Although I still do those things, i don’t do them as much as i used to because i am now a mother responsible for two human beings so i had to tone it down and put my children first and get serious with my work and life generally. I had to grow up and it has been good to me. I think its one of the best things to ever happen to me. Qn: Has this had some direct influences on some of them themes and things you sing about in your music Yes it does a lot especially when I sing about love. It has taught me how to love, because i didn’t

LILIAN MBABAZI Chano8 know I could actually love someone that much. You know when you hold your baby for the first time, no one is going to tell you how it feels, and it’s just the craziest feeling in the world. This has really influenced my music especially when it comes to love, being strong and believing in yourself in what you do. It’s such a blessing in so many ways Qn. This makes you a busy person. So how do you strike the balance between Lilian Mbabazi the mother, the artiste and the so many other things? I am very close to my friends and family and have a very good support system. I have had friends i have known for more than twenty years and they are still in my life supporting me when i need them. I have a nanny that has been with me ever since my son was two years old and is still with me coming to 5 years now which is a blessing because it is very had to get good nannies these days which has helped me to leave the kids comfortably knowing i can go out and do my music and pursue what i want because the children are first. If they are safe, then i am safe So this support system has been hugely important in my life which has helped me in balancing my life, music family and children Qn. We understand you are also under new management Deuces Entertainment Group. Is this part of the stability and support system you are talking about? Yes of course Deuces Entertainment Group came at the real exact time when i really needed them the most. So they came and partnered with me to make sure i achieve the goals that i have set for myself, and were the right team to make sure this happened. You can see now i am organising a concert which i have always wanted to do for a long time but i didn’t want to do it like just any other artiste so I kept doing what i was doing till i got the right team and management. So when DEG came in I was like yes this is the right the team i am going to work with and they are part of that stability keeping me focussed. It’s all good right now. Qn: Besides your children, what drives and inspires you and your music? I would say it’s just life. Life happens and as artistes that’s where we draw our inspiration from. The people around you and the experiences they go through and how it makes you feel. For instance ‘simple girl is one song drawn from experiences shared through people around you are struggle to make it through and believe in God. Life is my greatest inspiration whether good times or bad times, life moulds us

87

Qn. Talking about the song Simple girl. What are you singing about and what message are you trying Chano8. August 2015

to convey especially in the touching video? Simple girl is directed to anybody who wants to make themselves better. Those who have been struggling and have been to the end of the road and think well if I cross this line, I am finished. Its also dedicated to people who keep forgetting to trust in God because at the end of the day we are here by his Grace and what we are blessed with in what we do. At the end I am that Simple girl who is asking God to help be overcome the obstacles in life and not to give up on life. It can apply to anyone. Qn. You have told us about your Children, Friends, family, Management and music but you haven’t said anything about Taata wa Abaana (Father of the children) can we expect to hear wedding bells anytime soon? He he he what do you want to know? Me and Moses (Mozeh Radio) share children, we have children we are raising together and we are good friends. He lives his life and I live mine. That’s all. Qn. Tell us about your upcoming concert and album Up close and personal is the name of the concert and it’s about me on stage presenting myself to you, family friends and everyone. Me and my team have something special planned up and I can’t reveal details now but all I know is it’s going to be great because we have taken time to plan this for a long time and we want it to be a show unlike any other. There will be live band and I will perform with my team and the guys from Venom will be there and i enjoy live music and want to give an experience to those who enjoy live music too. Qn. Your Favourite Lilian Mbabazi song on the much anticipated Album? Oh that really difficult to tell. It’s like asking which is my favourite child. I love all my songs. But I think I love ‘Simple Girl’ its one of my favourites. I love my music I have worked with different producers and have different experiences but it’s all good I love my music and that kind of music in Simple girl. Qn. You were at Coke Studio, what was the experience like?. Wow Coke studio was great. I was actually there twice for season one and two. Most people don’t know that but I can tell you Season two was ballistic it was just great because in season one the organisers were just tiring to put things together. But I enjoyed season two more it was properly done. They are very professional people and you get to CONTINUES TO NEXT PAGE

do my music and focusing on reaching the people and selling myself. But if I make it and become one of the best female artistes in Africa, then that would be great.

Qn. Any challenges you still face that you want to share?

Qn. How to you rate Uganda’s music industry especially at a time when West Africans are dominating international awards

Challenges will never end you know, there will always be challenges, you have to always be better than you were yesterday that in itself is already a challenge and you have to figure out a solution for it. But like i said before I have a good support system in my family friends and I have Deuces so its easier to go through some of these things And there is the issue of trying to get out of the comparison stage where people still look at me, Jackie (Chandiru), Cindy and compare how we have fared like we are still in Blu 3 people will still compare the three girls but yeah there are challenges and its part of the industry. QN.Talking of Blu 3, Is there any chance of a ReUnion? Many people ask that question but i think not at the moment because everyone is still trying to find a footing as a solo artiste and trying to do things to discover themselves and a reunion would be like a destruction. Qn Where do you see Lilian Mbabazi in 5-10 years? Mmmm i don’t know, I can’t tell. I am just trying to

We don’t have a fair fight when it comes to comparing us to West Africa because they have the numbers and they have the money. And because of that they have the attention and get the likes of MTV etc to get noticed. But we have made big strides, the music has improved and the videos are better where by one can shoot a decent video with a small budget. QN. I have had my die had fans who have supported me through even when I have not been producing music especially the people from Big Mikes for giving me a home. Wiz Kid insists that the writing is on the wall. BET is for Blacks in the US not in Africa. He believes that African artistes and the whole African Music industry therefore needs to come up with a formidable event that truly appreciates and awards great African talent and its contributions to music all over the world. Local TV music critic, Joseph Batte has no kind words for the BET network. He believes they shot themselves in the foot by treating Africans like trash. “We (Africans) will always be despised just because we cannot stand up as a unit to condemn hypocrisy. If treating Kenzo like that isn’t disrespect. What is it?” He fumes. He maintains that BET has been striving to diversify its reach in viewership by appealing mostly to other ‘Blacks’ other than African Americans by courting African artistes and starting partnerships with pay TVs in Africa. What they did just defeats the whole purpose of helping African artists seeking that big break into the international music scene. He argues that when the nominees boycott the ceremony, they would get bigger publicity. “Big stars like Beyoncé have over the years declined the invite, which has made the event organisers panic and fear a meltdown. Michael Ross Kakooza is a Ugandan RnB singer known for his song ‘Sinorita which he released in 2002 that made him popular and received massive airplay. He started his music career as a dancer at the age of eight. The PAM award winner als released some popular songs like ‘Yooyo’, “Nze Akwagala", "Gimme tonight","Yo the one", "Ndi nowange" and "Clothes.

Michael Ross has embarked on some sort of come back that has seen him launch a new strategy that involves adding African flavours to his music

fter his first two albums “Yo The One” and "unstoppable", Michael took a 2-year musical break from active performances and reflecting on which direction to take. He is now launching a serious comeback with new songs and an album on the pipeline. One of the songs “Ndakwirundira” is already doing well in Uganda and Rwanda. Chano8 had a chat with him about his new projects.

BEEN UPTO I had taken a two year unofficial break to reflect on music and life in general and strategise on how to come back stronger. After following the changes and new trends in the music scen around the world especially with what the Nigerians and West Africans are doing, I realised that, I had to change too and went back to the drawing board. Now I am back with new projects and a new style although it is still RnB, I have added an African feel and touch to my flow with some languages like Luganda, Swahili and Kinyarwanda incorporated where i will be targeting the regional market. Much as i released a new song and video ' for Love I Feeel', it was basically for the club crowd and this time i wanted to

do something different.

INSPIRATION This is basically a tribute to my Rwandese fans that have supported me for these years through thick and thin. I thought I had to do something special for my fans especially from Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and even Uganda. The song is about assuring my woman not to worry about losing me and should have faith, trust and believe in me and not listen to rumours ha ha ha it’s a true story.

PRODUCTION I wrote the English verses in the song and a friend of mine called Dizzo based in Dallas USA, helped me write the Swahili and Kinyarwanda parts. I dont understand Kinyarwanda that much, but It was recorded at Blitz Records by a producer called Clyde Pro while the video was shot in Kigali by a company called PromoAfrica and Pledge Productions.

DANCE MOVES I can’t stop dancing and the way I have been doing it. I cannot change my style and image which is like my trade mark. I will only diversify and introduce some African moves into my flow. It’s always important to be consistent and maintain the image to keep it the same for the fans to iden-

CONTINUED Lilian Mbabazi is managed by us and is also in our record label while Atlas The African is in our label but is managed by Diamond Platinumz’ manager, Salam. Qn: What does it take to own a competitive record label? You need to have a dedicated team with a well defined chain of command. You need to shoot high end videos, market them, do good public relations, etc which requires a lot of resources to execute properly. Qn: The issue of copyright still seems to be unresolved. What’s your take on the law? If we create platforms for Ugandan music and get the fans to support them. Music can be put on platforms like ITunes where it can be downloaded for a fee while also creating other flexible avenues like apps that include a three click process of acquiring music and payments are made by mobile money which is more widely used in Uganda compared to the credit card system of ITunes and other music stores. If all this is done rightly, the government can then put up a tough copyright law in order to protect the music from piracy.

Chano8. August 2015

Our Artistes are getting international recognition with awards. What does this say about our music industry? It’s very exciting because now Ugandan music is getting a lot of recognition. The artistes are now more conversant with the nomination processes of international awards which has enabled them to get nominated in these awards. And I would therefore like to congratulate Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool on their MAMA nominations and Eddie Kenzo on his winning of the BET awards. Qn: What do you advise Ugandans to do in order to grow the entertainment industry? Corporate companies in Uganda’s entertainment industry should therefore learn to pick up local upcoming artistes and endorse, support and promote these artistes to their best. Ugandan corporate entertainment companies currently invest more in international musicians than they would in a local musician’s show so they end up limiting growth of the local entertainment industry. Qn: Besides managing artistes, what else do you do? I don’t do anything else apart from artiste management in the entertainment industry and advertising.

sonal Concert, what does DEG have in store for us?

It’s on a good note that currently more artistes in Uganda have started increased their music video expenditures. Luckily we have good video producers like Sasha Vybz who have facilitated us to do good music videos that can win awards and give Ugandan music international recognition.

We are planning for it to be the biggest live concert ever. We are working with Steve Jean of Fenon for the effects, sound, stage setup and lighting. She will be supported by artistes she has worked with before like Radio and Weasel, Atlas, APass and many more. This is her first show and she is going to set the bar very high for live performances in Uganda.

It all comes down to public relations and having a strong public relations team that can guide a musician on how to conduct themselves in public and what to say and do in order to facelift their image and brand. I usually describe myself as a young beautiful and very talented vocalist. Briefly. LOL.

Chano8: Wow that sounds interesting and

confident. Can you give us a brief background?

Naira Ali grew up in a humble Muslim extended family of over 20-30 children. I grew up from Masindi district where I went to Kindergarten, Muslim Girls school in Old Kampala, East High School for O-Level, Kibibi Secondary School for Alevel before joining Makerere University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Fine Arts in which I majored in Graphics.

Chano8: Coming from a Muslim background that sounds tricky to pursue music as a career how did you pull this off? It was abit tricky because my Muslim family didn’t allow music but I was introduced to music by my elder brother, Hassan Kikago who was venturing into music as a song writer and he therefore introduced me to a few producers like Producer Didi. I started out by voicing his demos for songs he was selling to mainly female artistes.

Chano8: How did you get inspired to start music?

I used to like singing along songs of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion and my brother was selling a song I had voiced to Desire Luzinda and she encouraged me to try out singing. That is how I was inspired to record my first song called ‘Tell Me’ in while in Senior Two.

Chano8: Tell us about your first professional song and when you started professional Chano8. August 2015

I wrote and recorded my first professional song in 2008 and it was called ‘Nze Nawe’. My current manager Mukasa Dickens co- wrote the song with me and paid for the audio production at Henry Kiwuuwa’s studio. I then shot a video for the song with Meddie Menz after the audio received good feedback from those who listened to it.

Chano8: . What do you consider as your break-

out song?

My breakout song was ‘Tulo’ which was produced by Richo in Purple Cord studio which belongs to my manager Dickens. My elder brother and manager wrote the song. I consider it to be my claim to fame song and this was after I finished campus.

Chano8: . So which music label are you signed to?

I am signed to Purple Cord Management. They write my songs, facilitate my vocal training, audio and video production. My manager is Mukasa Dickens, my producer is Richo and my brother Hassan Kikago writes my songs.

Chano8: How do you describe your music and the genre of your music? I do music mainly for the soul and to inspire people. I don’t limit myself to a certain genre but my music is a mixture of many genres like Pop, RnB, Ragga, Reggae, etc but I mainly do RnB, Pop and Afro Beat genres. Tulo is a mixture of Zouk and pop while Muntu Wange is Afro and Reggae so I fuse genres a lot.

completely sympathize with what you are going through and can not imagine what you and ayour children are going through emotionally. I am also curious as to the circumstances that led to the divorce. Who initiated it? What was the reason for the divorce? The reason I ask is because looking at the problem as it is posed above am let to think this might be a bit vindictive for him. He might be looking for ways to hurt you back. The most effective way to hurt a mother is going after her kids everyone knows that. So you should look back and see why he feels this way. Are you a bad mother? Why does he feel the children are better off with him? If it’s a vendetta mission then first try to settle it out of court or suggest to your layers you try mitigation meetings. If he insists and you do have to go to court then prepare to fight for your children. Divorce is card for the adults but the children suffer the most and stand to lose the most. Court has no option but take on the role of deciding who should have the children. Get yourself a good lawyer. See that there is nothing in your lifestyle that can hurt your chances and I hope you have a stable job and a good family support system to be there for you. It is heart breaking to think of a mother losing her children but if push come shove you will have to fight for then. His Take

i Lucy, I feel for you and I can only imagine what you are going through. At this point, your situation seems past the stage of getting back with your husband and assuming your role as the first wife in this polygamous scenario. This is because it totally seems against anything you would ever consider and that’s okay. You should not be pressured into it. I do not think you should kill yourself over worry because firstly your children recognize you as they mother and regardless of how young they are, do have a say in having you in their life. Your husband should not think that his money is all that is required in a situation like this. He has his new wife and he should be content in that and leave you some peace of mind. Be demanding for sole custody of your children shows a nature in him that is quite unbecoming. You need to consult a women’s rights organization like FIDA and tell them what is going on. I got to tell you that these people are effective and will not rest until your case is sorted. Your situation is not as bad say as aggravated battery, which has the potential of endangering your life. So try to get your mind of this and try to focus on the little joys that come with each day. Trust me its not as bad as it seems and granted, the mind has a way of playing games on us conjuring up every worst case scenario that could happen when in a hard situation. In time you will look back at this and wonder why you were worried out of health over this. Now I like to think that every person is a rational individual and we all have some sense of reason regardless of whatever kind of heartless behavior we tend to display sometimes. I would suggest a meeting with your husband where the two of you can sit down and reason like adults. Ask him why he is driven by a strong desire to ruin your life and what benefit he will gain from that. You didn’t state what life was like while the two of your were married and if things were unbearable. In most cases a man will take on another wife or take on a side woman when things at home are not necessarily bad, but probably lack excitement. This state of affairs is two sided and no one can specifically take the blame for this. If this was the case between you and your husband and you did nothing to hurt him then he should give you a listening ear when you decide to meet. Tell him you were hurt by his decision to take on another wife and although this was a difficult time for you, you are getting your life together. Whatever you say, you need to make this man see things from your perspective. I said earlier that your kids have a say in who they live with. If after the meeting with him he refuses to leave you and the kids alone, then you will need to involve your kids. According to Dr Francis Mutebi of Allied health center, this coupled with the time in the evening sitting in front of a television set, subjects them postural stress. More often than not this stress is made manifest in the shoulders and neck and can lead to long-term health problems. More advanced forms of postural stress show up as pain or weakness

....Massage your way to good health such as cortisol and noradrenaline and reverse the damaging effects of stress. It impoves the quality of sleep Adequate sleep is necessary for healthy functioning, and quality sleep is vital to health and wellness. Many people experience sleep issues that affect their health, often leading to low work performance, slowed reaction time, obesity and a higher risk of long-term disease. in the low back But you do not have to worry because; massage can counteract the imbalance caused from sitting, which means you can keep your desk job as long as you schedule a regular massage.

massage therapy is as effective as other methods of treatment for chronic back pain.

It eases muscle pain

According to Dr Mutebi, depression is at an all time high these days in many modern societies and ours is not any different. Unhealthy dietary choices, lack of exercise and the demands of daily living are contributing factors to this phenomenon.

If you engage in some kind of strenuous exercise and like most people you end with with sore muscles, then you definitely need a massage. Massage therapy increases and improves circulation; in much the same way rubbing your elbow when you knock it on a table helps to relieve the pain. They say there is power in the sense of touch, but it should be said that there is healing power in the sense of deliberate touch. A study in 2011 published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that

It relieves anxiety and depression

Massage affects your nervous system through the nerve endings in your skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, which are natural "feel good" chemicals. Endorphins help induce relaxation and combat depression. They also provide and a sense of well being, relieve pain and reduce levels of stress chemicals

Massage therapy can reduce fatigue and improve sleep and, based on research gathered by the American Massage Therapy Association, massage has been shown to improve sleep in infants, children, adults, and the elderly alike, as well as individuals with depressive disorders. There are many massage parlors in Kampala ranging from Soothing Spot Spa at garden city mall to Miami Club In Kololo and many others. But you can have your wife or husband give you a good massage if you want to save on money. There are many videos on youtube where you and your partner can learn the basics of massage then be able to treat each other to this therapy regularly. Happy massaging.

Chano8 MUSIC VIDEO

NDIMUKODO Cindy And Navio

W

ell a lot has been said about this video already in the media ever since its release with some sections claiming it has been banned from some Television stations like Uganda Broadcasting corporation (UBC) due to its’ X-rated nature’. There have also been reports that Integrity minister Fr Simon Lokodo could actually ban it entirely from the screens for contravening the anti pornography law. But what is in this video that has got people talking? First of all, we at Chano8 are law abiding citizens and condemn any form of pornography or indecency. However, we have our reservations on the claims that the video is promoting immorality. The claims and accusations emanating from the fact it is a beach setting where the main character in question Cindy is appropriately (or otherwise) dressed in bikini or beach wear if you like. So where exactly is the problem with the dress code? Did the critics expect Cindy to dress in a Gomesy at the beach? How about the so called erotic dance moves? Well let’s forget the moralists and focus on the technicalities which are the most important thing any way. The song produced by Job at JOB Records, is a dancehall/Ragga song featuring Hip-hop superstar Navio and it's high tempo rhythm coupled with the message (‘I am mean’) is expected to have some kind of ‘erotic’ flow or sexy dance moves especially when ‘badgirl’ Cindy is involved. Back to the video produced by Pink Lab Video productions, it hits the viewer straight away right from start and captures the much needed attention with the way Cindy emerges from the lake. The camera angles and transition effects are on point. Just within the same scene, there are a different camera angles and directions that create mini scenes within the main scene. Cindy splashes water to create dramatic bubble illusions and movement as she girates her waistline. Cindy emerges from the water like a goddess and at this point, the viewer’s attention has been captured and there’s no turning back. Next mission for the viewer is what happens next? And tension and suspense builds as we await the grand entrance of her accomplice Navio. To the disappointment of the viewer he doesn’t make it anywhere close to the lake where many people especially ladies glued are expecting to see a well built Navio seated on a stone off shore or cruising a speed boat bare chased and spotting a six-pack. Well, the disappointment is short-lived as the hip-hop maestro finally appears in what is arguably the most crystal clear scene in a music video done locally. The Director J. Blessing should be commended for creating such a perfect picture quality in an indoor setting with all the make-up and ‘corporate’ costume melting into the environment with ease.

Movie Review

San Andreas was officially premiered early this month and got many people talking .This amazing new release is one movie that will get you hooked from the start till the end. Yes, it’s that amazing.

Now In Cinemas

JURRASIC WORLD

T

he movie which is a spin off the famous Jurassic movies brings a whole different and interesting picture to sci-fi. Set twenty two years after the events of Jurassic park, a new theme park for dinosaurs is built off the coast of Costa Rica that attracts all sorts of people from children to adults. Everything was going so well until hell broke loose. A genetically modified dinosaur escapes containment and goes on a killing spree. With a very high IQ the giant stealth killing machine literally kills off everything it can lay its eyes on be it humans or fellow dinosaurs. In a plan to stop the vicious dinosaur from further going on rampage they resorted to releasing other dinosaurs which had been tamed to attack it. The blood full battle between the dinosaurs saw the tamed dinosaurs come off victorious even though one could say they had strength in numbers otherwise, it would have been a losing battle. The film which stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, B. D. Wong, and Irrfan Khan, was directed by Colin Trevorrow with Steven Speilberg coming on as an executive producer as he had for Jurassic park III.

MEMORIES LILIAN MBABAZI & APASS

Lilian Mbabazi features APass in the new song Memo ries

Former Blu 3 singe,multi-award winner and Afro soul singer Lilian Mbabzi recently team up with multi-talented dance-hall and reggae artiste APass to produce a pice of art that is realistically out of thier comfort zone. The talented singers however managed to ease into the Zouk rhythm and give us something new to listen and dance to as it evokes some memories.

T

he Deuces Entertainment Group who manages Ugandan Singer Lilian Mbabazi finally released the ballistic video of Memories featuring A Pass recently which is anticipated to take over air waves soon and we’ll preview it in details in our coming issues The excited Lilian who visited Chano8 offices recently revealed to us that, this is one of her major projects off her new upcoming self titled album. The album to be released to the public on 21st August is expected to feature mostly her songs done under the new management like ‘Simple Girl’ as well as a few of her ‘old songs’ Chano8. August 2015

The song in which the former Blu 3 diva features new kid on the block A Pass is a typical Zouk love song flows in simple rhythm which makes the two talented artistes adopt naturally and blend into the mix with comfort. The relaxed tone of the song can make the listener easily get lost into the vibe and ambiance of the imagery and illusion created by the feel-good addictive effect of the soft vocals and light beats. The tempo too is moderate though compared to other Lilian songs would best be described as groovy. The two are singing about the good times they’ve had together (as lovers) ever since setting eyes on each other and the promise to love him/

her forever. The tantalising Zouk beats can actually force one to shake the head like a zombie if they are too heavy to hit the dance floor. She is also planning a mega concert for her fans dubbed ‘Up Close and personal’ scheduled on the same day at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Ball room. Back to the video and song which was directed by Frank Mugerwa of Jahlive Films, the story line is as clear and straight forward as the picture quality and narrates the message in a beautiful simple flow that emphasizes the issue of ‘Unfinished businesses’ in our love lives.
