his time Garden City’s rooftop to was the venue for the launch of this year’s edition of Mirinda Miss Teen. Some were at the venue as early as 11am. Much of the morning was about the teenagers taking selfies and showing off their crazy sense of fashion, playing board games, pedicures for the girls, while DJ Mark kept the rest busy on the dance floor with his skillfully-selected playlist. After years of being Buzz Events’ official DJ, Mark has mastered how to keep the

young people busy all day, something the Buzz management has used to its advantage, seeing as the main performers of the day started arriving at 4pm for an event scheduled to end at 5pm. The beauty with the launch was that the stage was graced by not-so-common faces at teens’ events. Maurice Kirya was the first up and, to his surprise, the crowd did not know his Never Been Loved, off his latest album, but the teenagers sang along word for word to Mwooyo, while Busabala had them off their feet.

It is amazing how Kirya has been able to rebrand over time and be able to have all kinds of audiences cheer to his tunes. Lillian Mbabazi had them eating out of her palm with Obudde and Love Letter. The teenagers’ darling, Mun*G, brought his usual craziness on stage and for some reason they cannot have enough of his 2014 hit, Virgin. The tour is on for Miss Teen 2015 and for the first time, the search will include Northern Uganda.

The North joins already existing clusters in West, East and Central part of the country. Mirinda Miss Teen is an annual talent contest that aims at showcasing the great talents and characters of today’s teenage girls. Last year, Mt St Mary’s College Namagunga’s Keza Namazzi was crowed Miss Teen. This year’s theme is; “Work Hard, Play Hard” and will involve a search for a girl who is not only beautiful and smart, but is also fun-loving.

SOLOME LOVE STORY Chano8
SOLOME LOVE STORY NEW STAR SURPRISES FANS AS SHE PUTS UP A MASSIVE PERFORMANCE New rising star Solome had her maiden concert on 1st May at Golf course Hotel. The turn up was massive and she put up a beautiful performance which left her fans ecstatic and yearning for more
W
hen risi n g star
Solome said she was going to hold a show this year, many doubted while others said her show would flop, but that didn’t alter her decision because she believed she had God’s grace and favor. All became too real when May 1st dawned, the skeptics waited in line anticipating to see a lot of empty chairs but that wasn’t to happen. God had heard her prayers and the turn up was massive. Friends, family and fans all turned up to show their support for Solome and boy oh boy, she didn’t disappoint. Her palpable performance accompanied with amazing vocals got everybody in the Golf course hall nodding their heads in belief, while others got off their seats and

started dancing. One of the fans who stood out was a ‘mzungu’ man who couldn’t hide his excitement further or should I say it was like an anointing, he got up and showcased his rare dance moves for about 2 - 5 minutes. Treating her fans to rather amazing ballads, Solome also felt the need to share her love story and hoped everyone could draw from it. She said, ‘I used to date a guy for about 2 weeks and dump him because I would always get bored along the way. This went on for some time until I found God.’ She further goes on to break down the love she shares with the almighty, ‘He is the true love of my life and since I discovered him I have learnt to appreciate myself more. That was the beginning of my love story.’ And if that wasn’t enough, the soulful singer went on to tell her fans, ‘God loves you unconditionally, He
loves you the way you are.’ Solome’s My love story show was indeed breathtaking. She was also supported by gospel hip hop artist Ruyonga and rising star Sam Kimera who performed his latest song ‘slow down.’ With the show reaching new heights every passing minute, it turned out to be praise and worship as fans gave thanks to the almighty not only because of Solome’s performance but also for their lives. The singer also showed her heart of gold by thanking the sponsors that made it possible, her family, friends and fans for the continuous support. The show reached the epitome of greatness when Solome was ordained and launched into the music industry by the pastor who prayed for God’s mercy and favor upon her.

KING GUNDEEZE CONCERT Chano8
SAHA THRILLS A FULL HOUSE AT GUNDEEZE LAUNCH
King Saha is a fast rising star. After his break through song 'Mulirwana', the singer has maintained the pace by producing more songs. One such is 'Gundeeze' which is doing well on the airwaves. Saha had a concert to celebrate with his fans
H
e might have been undermined by several people for choosing the same date to have a concert with Jose Chameleone, but King Saha can now lay claim to the name of a 'King' after successfully pulling off a huge crowd and a great performance at Freedom City on Entebbe road last evening. With gates open as early as 6pm, people of all classes started flocking the venue and by 10, it was full to capacity that some people were denied entrance regardless of having tickets both in the VIP and general section. In fact, some people like Halima Namakula experienced a difficult time finding where to sit as all the VIP section was occupied with some people sitting on empty crates.
53
Chano8. June 2015
The show started on a low note with upcoming artistes exhibiting their talents but it was until Young Mulo came on stage that the concert became epic as a number of notable artistes followed suit to entertain the already fired up crowd. From Nince Henry, Gravity Omutujju, King Michael, Sheeba, Ziza Bafana and Bobi Wine. However it was Pastor Wilsom Bugembe who stole the show when he called on stage Mama Fina, a traditional leader to hold a prayer for the end of deaths to Ugandan artistes. Clad in an all black attire of shirt, coat, hat, leather trousers and shoes with a white stripe, the man of the moment took to the stage at exactly 12midnight and did tribute songs like the late Lucky Dube’s I love, and Tukikolemu by fallen star Ak47 before embarking on his own songs
Winner, Ontambuza, Signal, Tondiko and Vimba. During the interval of the first session, CD auctions were made and BK bought it at a whooping 5million shs and Maama Fina at 3million but promising to run at his aide in case he needs anything. “It’s on record that every concert I attend, the artiste never fails and today bare me witness, King Saha will keep succeeding in everything he does. My reason of being here is to fully support this new artiste. I would have gone at Chameleone’s concert but he is already established. Because you are a good artiste, I promise to help you in anything you need, be it financial or anything else.” Maama Fina said. The night ended at exactly 1am with King Saha performing his last tracks including Mulilwana, Bantu baffe alongside Ziza Bafana, Teziwela and Gundezze, the title track.

Chano8 WALE WALE DOUBLE TROUBLE
Jose Chameleone Had a full house attending his Wale Wale Double Trouble Concert at Kyadondo Uganda's self proclaimed music doctor Jose Chameleone held his double trouble concert at Kyadondo Rugby Club on 1st May. He however took the opportunity to lash at local media for writing stories about his personal life and threatened to relocate to Kenya
E
ast Africa’s music Doctor Jose Chameleone held his Wale Wale Double Trouble Concert at Kyadondo Rugby Club and it sold-out as a massive crowd descended Lugogo to support their own. Many of Chameleone’s colleagues curtain raised especially those who were his ‘enemies’ a few months back. However as he had earlier promised, this year is a year of reconciliation as the likes of DJ Michael and Vampino shared the same stage with the ‘Badilisha’ singer for the first time in a very long period characterised by hostilities. The highlight of the night was the moment Chameleone’s young sons Abba Marcus aka T-REX and Alfa Joseph Mayanja stormed the stage like angels to do some serious hiphop tunes with many in the crowd struggling to hold back tears as the young boys followed in the footsteps of dad. Their mother Daniella Atim was in the crowd to support them. She was accompanied by her friend socialite Judith Heard who turned up with a gang of other socialites.
66
Chano8. June 2015
Pastor Wilson Bugembe led a prayer moment for the music and entertainment industry especially for the souls of the departed to rest in peace. Veteran singer Ragga D who was hailed as a pioneer singer for this generation of artistes also put up a good show just like Ghetto president Bobi Wine whose presence alone forced the crowd to their feet. Generally it was a successful show as the fans looked excited when their hero stepped on stage for a marathon of live performances with his Leone Island band that ended close to midnight. He also had a few words for the local media which raised some eyebrows. Chameleone who was flawless at his Wale Wale Double trouble concert at Kyadondo all of a sudden in Typical Chameleone style changed colours from the bright happy man to a pissed off very angry man who shredded the media. The self proclaimed music doctor who ranks himself as Africa’s number six was particularly not happy about some sections of the media writing stories about his family and private life other than helping the local talent to progress. He said unlike in Kenya where everyone minds their own business, in Ugandan people are always peeping into other
people’s private lives. He says some tublods have made it their business to always write about his marriage to Daniella Atim being rocky and the love of his life divorcing him. “I have been in the industry for fifteen years and all through Daniella has been besides me supporting and loving me. She has never left or threatened to leave so why write all the nonsense?” The Badilisha singer fumed. Chameleone speaking so fast in a rap form, also added to the debate of local media and DJs not supporting local talent ‘yet in countries like Nigeria they always support and market their own.’ Speaking in luganda, Chameleone directed some of his rage straight at some journalists and photographers right in front of him who looked startled. He accused some media houses of being compromised and journalists paid to tarnish his image. “If this continues, I will relocate to Kenya where I am loved and appreciated”. He added The show was sponsored by Pepsi, SMS ONE, Silk events and Capital FM and organised by Baalam events

The up-town social gathering Blankets and Wine had a different effect on several people this time round as some people chose to go low key while others went to have absolute blast. When Kenyan singer Eric Wainana jumped on stage, little did he know he would be 'taken to a dance school' a few minutes later.

Q& A

ARE OUR ARTISTES Miles Rwamiti is a presenter on NTV’s program ‘Kona ne NTV’. He is an authority on music and Ugandan celebrity lifestyles. Every month we select questions from the public about the music industry for him to answer.
I
t is a big NO for me. I don’t think most of our artistes deserve to be the face of any product. This is a no go area for me as concerns our local artistes and the so called celebrities.
The reason being that, most of our artistes don’t just cut it. A brand ambassador or image of a product is supposed to inspire people and drive admiration into the public Someone who is disciplined and a respectable role model. But look around, do you see any? Is there any person worth placing on a billboard to represent a product? For me, I see none. The problem is that most of the artistes or so called role models are reckless, they don’t respect themselves, they don’t dress well and usually stink terribly because they rarely take a bath. How do you expect a serious company to endorse such a person for their products? The issue of Brand endorsement is supposed to be a good thing but the way it has being handled locally leaves a lot to be desired. In some developed countries or where the music industry has grown like in Nigeria, artistes are earning big from product endorsements.
Ask Rwamiti Chano8. June 2015
When some artistes here in Uganda started signing contracts to advertise some products as brand ambassadors it looked like a positive step forward. The challenge came when artistes started mismanaging the deals and breaking rules that require a lot of discipline. The few who managed to secure the so called deals only

receive items like soap, Vaseline and mineral water. What is that? Where is the big deal in that? This just doesn’t make sense. I think our artistes have to get serious and be disciplined and well behaved. A company cannot sign someone who is always fighting in bars to be the image of a product and promote it on billboards. son like Afrigo band’s Moses Matovu. Now if a company signed someone like that to advertise its product, I can take them seriously and may be get swayed. Otherwise it is a no for me. We don’t have such role models My advice is that let artistes get organised with a proper sense of direction and when they get the deals, they should handle them like professionals instead of confusing the public. Big companies like say Apple for example cannot take any our artistes seriously to represent them here.

Nathan Magoola, a brand copy writer, says that companies that involve Ugandan celebrities to endorse products don’t usually get their full mileage. What most companies get out of the deal is brief brand awareness and recall but very few celebrities add a new di-
mension to the brand image and give it instant credibility. “Celebrity endorsements shouldn’t only communicate that the celebrity uses the product or service that they are endorsing. It should go beyond that. It is only in Uganda that you will have a Hema water ambassador enjoying Wavah water,” He states. He further explains that when companies zero on a particular celebrity, it is a leap of faith because they aren’t sure it will always work out. In his experience however, for most of our celebrity endorsements, there have been many risks involved since most, if not all act inappropriately or become involved in scandals Magoola further argues that whereas

His recent project is a TV series called Beneath the lies which aired earlier this year but had a premature end due to internal problems. When we asked him how he came up with the idea he is glad to tell the story. He says the idea was developed by his personal friend who is a well known actress and writer Naana Kaggwa who thought it would be nice to write movie about his character and they brushed it off. Upon his visit in the UK she presented him the script of the idea which he had long since then forgotten.
Cedric is also the chairperson on the Lawn Tennis Association in Uganda which takes up what other time he has left from Kinetic Management and acting. When asked how he manages to find the time to do all this he says its discipline, party/drink less, sleep enough and be organized. He also loves hat he does which makes it a lot simpler.
They decided to turn it into a series seeing as it won’t be easily shelved. I talked to a few friends and then before he knew it the cast was set. The script was written by Naana Kaggwa, directed by Tosh Kitonga and produced by Kinetic Management. The show featured a lot of celebrity names such as Flavia, Gataeno, Natasha, Naava, Rababadaba and so on helped with marketing but He says we weren’t looking for only local celebrities to feature in the series but those are the people he knew. He explains the challenges he has faced in the business world, first was capital, just like any other person is the operating costs and with a company like kinetic which was doing work that is new to society, it takes awhile for clients to come in and event sponsor ships yet operations must keep moving forward. For his future goals and dreams, he hopes that Kinetic will be bigger and able to run its self and maybe eventually branch out into different countries nearby. Also new components maybe taken up under the company which will be good. He urges the youth to focus on studying what they love because it shows and results are lacking when one works for a paycheck rather than when you do what you love. Uganda already has a shortage of jobs, they aren’t enough to match the graduates. The youth should be creative and do something out of what they study and love rather than waiting for employment. Maybe their own ’Beneath the li es’

NAAVA
"THIS IS MY YEAR TO SHINE" Naava Grey is a multi-talented Ugandan singer, lyricist and performer who has passionately modelled her singing career within genres such as Ganda folklore, Rock and RnB, creating a neo Afro-pop vibe which is a very distinctive sound. She is a very versatile young artiste who sings in native Luganda language as well as in English. Naava Grey is one artiste who takes time to work her craft and always wants nothing but quality and will never settle for less. She is definitely shooting for the stars and she won’t settle for anything other than originality and class. Her style is distinctively unique and gathering pace. We spoke to her about life and music. WHO IS NAAVA GREY? I am an artiste songwriter and performer. I grew from here in Kampala(Central) I am the last born from my family. I studied at Buganda Road Primary school, Blue Band Primary in Kenya and Secondary before returning to Uganda to join Makerere University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Industrial art and design at Margaret Trowel school of Industrial and Fine arts. I come from a music loving family where everybody sings but had never thought of doing music myself. My siblings would always sing very well and better than me which made me timid. It was not until when I joined Tusker Project Fame that i discovered myself and my abilities. I built confidence and learnt a lot like song writing, vocal ranges and stage performance. Chano8. UPCOMING PROJECTS
WHY I TAKE TIME TO RELEASE MUSIC
I am working and finalising my album which is at the final stages. And will be released officially at Gatto Matto on June 11th. I will perform a few of my songs, mingle and interact with fans as well as sell CDs. The performances will be live with a Band. The album will be a 20-track album with 10 songs already out and some playing on the airwaves already and the other 10 other new songs no one has heard. We are excited about this debut album called ‘Naava Grey The Album’
I have a unique style of music which I believe needs time to work out. I also want to do music which will be here to stay and not produce just for the sake. I believe when you do good quality music, it doesn’t matter how often you release songs. You will always stay relevant in the industry INSPIRATION I look up to legends like Oliver Mtukuzi and my music is inspired by many things and a combination of many styles and people generally. Locally one artiste who inspires me a lot was the simple and classy Madoxx Sematimba. I would really love to work with him. Chano8. June 2015
Going forward, we are also looking at doing big collaborations with big artistes across Africa. We cannot mention them now yet but I promise the is going to be massive. We are also working on new videos which will be released in due course. MILESTONES My music is doing well across Africa and fans back home do appreciate my
style and love my songs which are also performing well on radio and Television. International TVs like TRACE TV, Channel O and M-TV play my videos regularly. My music also made a breakthrough and changed my life. I overcame the fear of failure after reaching many people through my music. PRODUCTION. I write my own music and production is mostly done by D-King at Neutriq Town Studios. The rest is left to my management team to run things. SETBACKS/CHALLENGES It is sometimes disappointing and energy supping when the audience doesn’t feel you during a performance. And sometimes some sections of our local audience doesn’t understand and appreciate my style of music yet it is loved by other people around the world.

How and when did you discover your love for fashion. That was later on unlike music. But also just like the music I realized I was setting trends in school. I went to a seventh day school where every Saturday as a holy day, so we dressed in our finest and had a lot of fun on Saturdays. I noticed when my friends and schoolmates would borrow my clothes or imitate the same outfit I wore the previous Saturday. I always have to dress to impress because I know they were always watching and everyone would compliment my look. When I started my solo career that is when I realized I actually had a serious sense of fashion. I wore outfits on stage and I would find the print newspapers an tabloid had picked it up and had compared me to other big stars like Desire, Juliana and many more that I looked upto. How has your style changed since joining music? It has changed a lot. The things I loved then aren’t the things I like now. When we started out in Dream girls, only one person decided what to wear. Renah, who was the pioneer of the group, she would decide and say stuff ike ‘ you will wear jeans and a tshirt’ and every Saturday we would go Owino to look for the outfits. Hehe it is funny when I look
back on those days. As a solo artist I had the freedom to decide what I want to wear. I was signed to Universal management where I was given really nice shopping treats. Often I was taken to high end stores like Sylivia Owori’s shop to pick out what I wanted to wear. It was fabulous and better yet I got to keep the clothes. My sense of style came out then. I loved the way I teamed up different items

I do my best to sell only clothes I consider my style. I don’t sell clothes that I wouldn’t wear. We sell clothes, bags, jewelry, and shoes. Everyone is bound to find something they like in my store. Actually, I tell my customers if they don’t take something I will. Hehehe. and together they made an amazing out fit. Many people complimented my outfits on social media and the tabloids. That is how the idea of my boutique came up.
Tell us about ‘L KAY’d fashion store? Well, it’s a fabulous store for fashionable women. We are located on King’s gate mall 1st floor in Kabalagala. We opened mid last year. I do my best to sell only clothes I consider my style. I don’t sell clothes that I wouldn’t wear. We sell clothes, bags, jewelry, and shoes. The is also the usual customer clients where you may conflict on different style choices with clients and others just don’t approve my stock and compare it to other shops. So despite my choice of clothes and I stock for the needs of my customer.
In your own words how would you describe your style? I would say my style is more of classic, vintage and trendy. All rolled in one. I love trendy clothes, but most of the time I like to go back in time and bring back a vintage item to couple with something trendy. For example the old corsets are now trendy if you put it together with a round big skirt. I love African stuff too.
Shoes, Accessories, or Jewellery , what is your weakness? Wow, I love shoes. I really love shoes. I buy a lot of them, especially the trendy ones. I couldn’t be able to tell you how many pairs of shoes I own, but it is roughly between 20 to 30. Now I am into pointy shoes, I have a white Aldo pointy shoe that I am absolutely in love with. I couldn’t tell you which my most expensive pair is I honestly don’t remember. I am not so into bags, but for accessories I absolutely love rings, I wear 3 to 5 rings at a time.
What do you think is a must have in a girl’s closet? What challenges have you encountered running a fashion store? What fashionable item Ofcourse the little black dress plus would you consider ‘time- some others is a must. Who do you think women dress for, Men or women?
Do you have any celebrities shopping for your shop?
I truly believe women dress for fellow women. Men always give compliment as a conversation starter or as a means of flattery. They rarely believe it or understand what they are complimenting. When a woman tells you your smart, she means it. She has taken off the time to notice and judge your outfit and finally has approved it.
Yes a lot actually, I have people like Helen Lukoma, Cindy, Barbie Zuena, Jackie Chamdiru and Desire Luzinda too shops a lot from my shop. Sometimes I end up doing styling too. Desire calls and asks me to come up with an outfit for an appearance and I do. Others see me on stage and call to get what I was wearing.

ebe Cool, who turns 38 in September, has always reaffirmed that he, Jose Chameleone and Bobi Wine, all in their 30’s, are still the leaders in Uganda’s mainstream music landscape. They however have their doubters. Before upcoming singers, Ziza Bafana and King Saha came up to brand Bebe Cool music grandfather who had already lost his relevance, Uganda’s Big brother representative Esther Akankwasa had set the beef rolling.

Bebe, Chameleone still big According to music critic and writer, Joseph Batte, if the current strides made in the industry are to be interpreted, the big three is more of a title than a reflection or index rating on who is ruling the music landscape at the moment. He believes there are times when Radio and Weasel (who started as back up vocalists for Jose Chameleone), Kenzo, King Saha have been at the top musically and received rave reviews. Their dominance however doesn’t mean that they have broken the top three. “I feel insulted when a musician riding on one or two songs assumes they have arrived. I blame it on the audiences. A large section of our audiences enjoy tasteless and bad music as long as it has innuendo,” he starts.

He says it is natural that audiences will cheer songs like Saha’s Gundeeze, Captain Dollar’s Emmese, Kenzo’s Sumbusa and Ziza Bafana’s Guluma Nasomye, because they are pure musical pornography. This doesn’t make them big artistes. He insists that Chameleone and Bebe Cool are still very popular. “Chameleone is arguably still the

According to Batte, the industry has moved on from beef to real music, since crowds are more discerning.
When contacted by Chano 8, King Saha was adamant that there has to be mutual respect by the seniors and the young artistes for the industry to grow. “They should also respect us,” he said in part. He insists Bebe Cool provoked them.

Joe Tabula, a producer and songwriter doesn’t entirely blame the upcoming singers for exhibiting arrogance at times. He explains: “Most musicians I know hold a dream to someday ‘make it’ in the music business, to play in front of huge crowds and live a lifestyle that they can only imagine. Unfortunately, many grow old and live with an ever increasing fear of missing out. When it happens, with a hit song, they run out of control,” He says that the industry has moved on from musicians waiting to be discovered. They have to make enough noise in order to grow and audience and a career.

Have you performed in Uganda? On my last trip to my beloved Uganda, I had the pleasure of performing at a couple of great events. It was a totally amazing, but nerve wrecking experience as I was relatively unknown at that time. I performed at the Buzz Leavers rock event in Garden City to a massive young crowd. Be it on radio or on stage emceeing an even or just on your TV screen one thing is beyond doubt. Flavia Tumusime is a talented woman. TEENS CLUB Her appearance on T.v came on earlier in her life in 2002. She was 14 years old when she joined Teens Club, she says being an only child in day school left her with a lot of free time on her hands which often left her bored. Mnet & Channel O Along the way, Flavia got back into television as Host for the K-files on WBS as a replacement for Karitas in 2010 and the following year she was chosen and the official Channel O VJ for Uganda. This was her break into the international scene. As The ChannelO VJ, She hosted various events in Uganda and East Africa. She also provided music , videos and any other entertainment content from Uganda that included news of what was happening, new music and artist in the country as long as they met the Channel O standards. She was later chosen to co-host the Guiness Football Challenge Show on Supersport. She explains that her contract was with Mnet so it was allowed for her to be called upon to do shows on other Mnet channels not only Channel O. So when the SuperSport channel needed her, she went even without a lot of analytical skills in sports. She says’ they always has an analytics guy on the side just in case I throw wrong statistcs on air hehe’. She also did ‘tabila endiba’ on Supersport that later was ended. She also co-hosted the Big brother Africa Show in 2012 as the first East African personalities to ever do that. A lot of Ugandans were proud of that milestone. Over the years she is now among the highest ranked Events hosts in the country alongside the likes of Roger Mugisha and only events with a bulky budget can seem to afford her onto their stages. This year she will host the Annual USPA award dinner and many others. The closure of Channel O she says wasn’t the only reason she isn’t so much on Mnet anymore, her contract was also concluded although she is still called upon from time to time for freelance gigs by Mnet Africa.

starting out on voice over ads on radios. She explained that they ere the very short 30 second ads we heard on Radio in between songs and programs from program sponsors or radio advertising clients. She narrates how they were her source of income for quite awhile all through school. ‘ I was loaded at school because of voice overs, to this date I still find time to do them as they bring in some good money’. She started voice overs in 2004, Roger Mugisha gave her studio time and scripts where she started making money. As her career and image grew internationally her South African manager registered her online to do voice overs. She says she didn’t understand why she was online until the first gig came in and she so the payment. It was a different ball game. She explains with a huge smile on her face’ the beauty is that I could work anywhere at anytime and just wait to be notified of my payment. I made a lot of good money until this date too’.
Actress She is currently on the new trending ‘Beneath The lies’ show that is on pause at the moment, but this isn’t her first time in a movie or television script. Her first film was in 2007 with Henry Ssali called ‘Kiwaani’ then another with John Segawa for a much more rural market named ‘irreversible regret’ in 2011. She says, for her acting came easy and she kept reminding people ’Am an only child, I live in my head’ so it was camera light and I am anyone they wanted me to be. She absolutely loved it. She can’t wait to continue filming Beneath the lies, she loved the script and cast. She summarizes it as a great experience for her.
Future plans Flavia is very tight lipped about her future plans, for now she says she is just going to concentrate on Radio and television which includes some acting. Though she did mention a retirement plan in 2 years and possibly a house on the beach. A Ugandan beach, or California beaches? We don’t know. But the sky is the limit!

"NEW PRODUCER "
NESSIM
"DROPPING BEATS LIKE CRAZY" Nassim is a 21 year old young man of average height, always looking to the ground with his bob dread locks, seems reserved when you meet him with very few words. A humble gentle man with a down to earth manner and could easily be mistaken for a teenager from his appearance.
H
e is a huge influence and dynamic power producer with 2 awards so far for his remarkable songs and beats. Chano8 caught with him to get his perspective as the man behind most of the hits songs in the country right now. Songs such as ‘Tuli kugere’ and ‘wuuyo’ by Apass, ’ntunga ntunga’ by Radio and weasel plus many more. He lights up at the mention of music and speaks about it as if it was a continuation of who he is.
Who is Nassim? Am Nassim Mukuzza am the last born of 4 children. I have 1 sister and 2 brothers. I did not get the opportunity to study spent all my child hood home and around the corner playing games. There wasn’t much to my child hood really. Chano8. June 2015
How did you discover your love for music? I always loved music, started from being home listening to the radio and the barbershops and so on. I later wanted to be an artist. I figured I could try singing. It helped that one of my elder brothers was a producer with a small studio. So I spent a lot of time there watching the producers work without any practice. I would wait until everyone left the studio then I would try out what I have seen other be taught on the computer. With time I got to learn a lot by watching. So I made myself some beats, even then I did not do it to be a producer but rather a musician. I did my songs with a lot of different twists I had in mind but I had nowhere to voice my songs from. I later joined a group to start singing and we even got a manager. We
were called ‘Ocean entertainment’. Some day our manager got us time at Fire Base Studio to record a song, as we were there I also started backing up songs which means harmonizing voices, background vocals and balancing the tunes and so on. The other artists picked up on how good I was at backing
I come from a music loving family where everybody sings but had never thought of doing music myself. My siblings would always sing very well and better than me which made me timid in the family.

How your journey from fire Base at Badi music? The management of Fire Base studios (Bobi Wine’s studio)also noticed and I was hired to do that, just backing for artist’s songs. That was in 2012. By 2013 they left me more time in studio and behind the machines and I became a pro at producing my own songs they realized that and I started producing. I did songs for Bobi wine and his crew. It was there that Badi of Badi Music approached me and asked me to join him at his studio and that was end of 2013. I joined him and this place has been my home ever since. I found Apass here he was there resident artist and I became the resident producer.

you worked with? Wow I have worked with very many artists such as Apass, Bobi wine, Bebe Cool, Navio, Radio and Weasel, Gravity , Irene ntale, cindy, Azziz Azion, Don Mc , nutty Nathan, maro, desire Bella, Dizaza, Tipswizzy ,Sizzaman , Levixone, Fiempa, Ziza Bafana and around east Africa artists like Wyre, Naziz, Mr blue and many more.
What are the ingredients of a hit song, what is the process of making a song? Well people come with an idea and a feeling of what it is they want. Some have lyrics and a chorus so its upto me to create a song that fits and is perfect for an artist. I have only one person a day to work on a song. A hit song must have good lyrics, the type of music u want also matters. For example a club banger requires a catchy chorus. The lyrics
also must be able to fit on a track. I believe any song can be a hit as long as the artist and producer agree on what the song needs.
What is a true description of an artist? A true artist in my opinion is simple the artist that can turn an ordinary song and turn into an amazing song, who can make wonders from simple songs. He/she ask must be flexible able to sing various songs and differentiate between the different styles of music.
What are your songs that o have produced? They are all dear to me. Honestly I can’t pick a favorite. But I can talk about the ‘Tuli Kubigere’ and ‘broken english’ songs that earned me the award for ‘Best Producer of Year 2015’ Buzz Teenies award those are songs that I enjoyed working with. Tuli kubigere was famous before I even worked on it properly, I did something small with it in an hour

Going forward, we are also looking at doing big collaborations with big artistes across Africa. We cannot mention them now yet but I promise the is going to be massive. We are also working on new videos which will be released in due course. before Apass performed it and the crowd went crazy. I was motivated to make it perfect. Gravity brought ‘Broken English and I was fascinated with the lyric and the way they rhymed and we had fun playing around with tunes. We tweeked the chorus a little, got some girl to do a back ground vocal and that was it..
Tell us about your friendship with Apass? Hehe I met Apass here when I came here. We spent a lot of time together in studio all day we became fast friends soon we were housemates. We keep learning from each other. We stay in studio until wee hours in the morning. We stared Chano8. June 2015
his music career in the night with songs like ‘sin city’ and we believed it was the one. I was a fan of his from the beginning and is music would make it because it was in English. But here we are still working on more hits. i have some embarrassing photos of Apass and stories, hehe incase you want them let me know.
What challenges do u faces as a producer? Most of the trouble I find is the criticism with the producers work, you will find someone who knows nothing about music beats and production critiquing the song on beats. Its demoralising but we move on. Then we have
some stubborn artists who don’t want any suggestions and changes to be made to their songs but yet you as the producer you know what your offering what is best for the song and this song flops.
Future projects? A lot of my projects are going on like the 50 track album for Apass. I am always doing and learning new things with my music. I have a lot of news songs coming with Desire. I have international projects coming up. I am working with Wiz Kid, might also be doing asong with Timaya and Kenzo too.

ZIZA BAFANA
Ziza Bafana is an award winning Ugandan dance-hall artiste who has been on a steady rise on the Ugandan music scene in the past two years and his hot song Pomini Pomini doing well on the airwaves. Chano8 caught up with him to chat about his life and career aspiartions and the rise to stardom.
Chano8: Hello Ziza Bafana is everywhere these days, but who exactly is this Ziza Bafana?
Ziza Bafana is Kasendwa Richard aka ZIza Bafana. I am a Ugandan artiste who does Ragga and DanceHall music. Bafana is Zulu word for strong person and Ziza is a name which comes from the Bible to mean shining. So I am a shining strong person. I was born in Masaka and my father comes from Luvule while my mother comes from Kinamemvu. I went to Bulenge Nursery/Primary school, Bright community academy for primary and then joined St. Stephens community Secondary school but unfortunately i dropped off in senior four and did not complete my education due to lack of school fees.
Chano8: So this means you had to branch to music as an option right? Growing up was not easy especially after losing my mother. I went to Bwaise and started working as a motorcycle mechanic in a workshop my auntie started for me. But before that, I got save in a born again church in Masaka called Good news church where I was introduced by mother. The church had many musical instruments and I had the opportunity to learn most of them. It is also from there that I started learning how to sing in the choir before joining the street life. To date I am still saved.
born. It is a mixture of Luganda, English and Jamaican Patois as a party tune. You should remember that I am a business artiste so my music is basically for making money and nothing more.
Chano8: So how do you describe your music and style?
I am still looking for a name for it. I have about five options I have come up with. I will reveal it at my album launch sometime this year. But it can be categorised as Ragga and Dance-Hall although i can sing any kind of music and genre because of my church and choir background.
Chano8: I usually ask artistes about Nigerian music dominating air waves and the consequent debate raging on. What is your take? I agree the Ugandan music industry is still growing however we cannot be promoting things that contribute nothing in our life. We as Ugandans don’t understand where we belong and end up promoting foreigners yet we neglect our own talent. To me Nigerian music is even fake and I cannot copy their style. First of all it cannot be performed live (With a band) and secondly they all sound the same with all producers copying same beats i just don’t like it.
Chano8: What is this Pomini Pomini you are singing? Tell us about the inspiration behind the tune
Chano8: I know it is tricky to survive only on music in Uganda, what else do you do besides the music?
When i started my humble music career, i first did some collabos like ‘Proud to be African’ which encouraged me and gave me morale to push harder with music. So when I listened to the Jamaican Ragga music of tongue-twisting, I felt I could do it and because i usually do freestyle music and not sit down to write a song before producing, it became easy for me.
Like I have said before, I am a business artiste so I do music to make money. However, I have invested some of the money on land that I bought in Wakiso district. I intend to build rentals on it but because I have just broken into the music scene, I don’t have the money yet.
With the rich local vocabulary and some street words I came up with, I started playing with words until I mustered the style and Pomini Pomini was Chano8. June 2015

Chano8: Does that mean you have already achieved something from the things you do?
Yes I have travelled a lot in a short period of time because of music. I have been to UK, Dubai, Turkey and many other countries. I have also won six local awards in just a period of two years like at Zzina, Hi-pipo and Buzz Teeniez awards.
Chano8: Competition is stiff as new kid on the block, what are some of the challenges you face in the industry? There is the issue of keeping up with appearances which forces artistes to live under pressure because they have to look like ‘Super star’. This makes life very expensive. Secondly for your good music to move fast, the quality of music video has to match the audio however it is still very expensive to produce quality music videos here and travelling abroad to shoot a competitive video is beyond some of us upcoming artistes.
Chano8: Tell us about recent media report that you fell off the stage while performing and what actually happened in South Sudan?
The story is true indeed i fell on stage due to fatigue, and sickness. I was very tired from a busy Easter holiday schedule which saw me perform in about 10 different places in 3 days. So I got tired from the performances and also insomnia and fatigue. I am only human these things happen. As for Juba, I was arrested as a security measure to protect me from the fans who mobbed me after power went off. There was no one to interpret for me as security people first suspected me of inciting violence and entering Juba illegally. But after some time a lady who could interpret came and they called the artiste and promoter who took me there. They explained everything and i was left to go
Doesn’t your music style conflict with your Christian beliefs as you told us you are a born again? Yes I am still a born again Christian. My music and style is God given talent which I was blessed with to survive as Chano8. June 2015
my source of livelihood. And concerning the X-rated dance moves in my videos, all I can say is that this is art and performance so I do what people want and they appreciate the dances. I still go to church mostly at Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s church at Prayer palace in Nansana and other born again churches. So nothing conflict about my music and Christian faith.
Chano8: We heard that you are dating a TV presenter called FIfi the queen how true is this? I am single and not searching. Fifi is just a friend. Actually she is dating my manager
Chano8: And the plans for future? I want to build a school for underprivileged children especially orphans like me. I want to take Ugandan music to the next level and my mission now is to put Ugandan music onto the interactional map. I am also writing a book compiling Ugandan slangs and street lingua. I
also want to identify and promote young and upcoming talent and buy equipment for live band. My concert is also around the concert on August 7th at Kati Kati.

Relationship
I have been married for almost 2 years but I am finding my current situation unbearable. My husband and I live with 6 of my husband’s relatives, an uncle, an elder brother and 4 sisters. They are all above 25years of age. I have no privacy in my home. They use my stuff in bedroom say make up, shoes, accessories and clothes. I have lost maids because they say they cant serve more than 2 masters. As if that is not bad enough my mother and father in law are also frequent vistors who sometimes spend 1 or 2 nights.

irst of all how big is this house? 9 people under one roof! Jeez. This is indeed a tricky predicament. Any woman would be losing their mind, especially so early in your marriage when any relationship still needs a lot of nurturing by both husband and wife. It is why a honeymoon is put in place and the first 2 years are meant for the couple to forge their future plans together and privately. I assume it is difficult to do with a whole lot of family members around. Is this house a family owned house, I mean is the house owned by your husband’s family? Because if you and your new husband moved in with the family, then it is understandable that they had nowhere to go at the moment. It is sad that your husband doesn’t see how unhealthy it is for you and your relationship. It is not healthy to feel alienated in your own home, especially as a bride, you need the intimacy to strengthen your marriage. Maybe he comes from a close nit family where he finds it normal to be surrounded by his entire family. Talk to him again in a neutral surrounding, in a calm tone when he is also in a relaxed environment. If that doesn’t work, find a family member who understands your predicament and ask them to intermediate. Try counseling, you never know a marriage counselor could be the one to give him a perspective he will understand. Talk to him about finding a house for just the two of you. If he finds that hard, then convince him

When I ask hubby to talk to them about my missing stuff, he says I hate his relatives period. My inlaws all believe I hate and mistreat them. Please give me advise I am 1 against 9 people.
I surely don’t know how big this house is but what happens when you have your own family, the children will need the extra space. If you have a good relationship with your sisters in-law, encourage them to get work and move out. that it won’t be far away from the family. His Take
irstly I commend you for putting up with this kind of living for all this time. What your husband is allowing in your home is trespass of the highest order. By letting his relatives come into your home and become decision makers he is inadvertently letting you know that you do not matter. His family comes first. The bible says “ For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife.” This shows you that it is God’s design for every married couple to be separated from their families and start a new life as one unit. It is for this reason that I called this a great trespass. As a rule of nature in such a living arrangement, the your mans relatives will disrespect you and make all sorts of unnecessary demands on you. They believe that he could have done better and so they will do all they can to trample on you. They will frustrate any good thing you try to do and it is unbecoming that they would go as far as sharing your makeup and accessories. What you need to understand is that in these living conditions you have no say in anything that goes on in that house. You are simply a stranger while the rest of the people are related by blood. You have not mentioned if you have children, but this is not a good environment to raise your kids. They will get conflicting information from everybody in the house and they simply wont know who to follow and who not to. They also do not need to see their mother treated the way you are. So I gotta say its bad upbringing for your children. You need to get your man to sit down with you and have a real talk with him. You need to candidly tell him what he is doing is not right and tell him how it really makes you feel. If your husband loves you he will listen to you. If he does not listen, then you should involve your family and have them back you up. You do have a family of your own, so why does he feel like his family should have all the leverage. If they do not listen to your family, then you need to give your husband an ultimatum. Either you do or he does. I think that this should prove a point and if he doesn’t listen to you then you can pack your stuff and go stay with your relatives. I do not advocate for anyone suffering like as though they do not have a family of their own. With such a move your husband may play like
Mark Kawalya I do not advocate for anyone suffering like as though they do not have a family of their own. With such a move your husband may play like he doesn’t care at the start but gradually he may come to his senses. he doesn’t care at the start but gradually he may come to his senses. If all fails, then you will have to contact the pastor or priest who wed the two of your and tell him about this. He should have the last call on whatever action you can take granted the situation. While your situation is bad, I would not advocate for you to quickly divorce this man. Seek all possible avenues to make this marriage work and if all fails then the man of God should give you the final step to take. Good luck to you May 2014

here’s something telepathic about music. You are sitting bored in that nasty traffic snarl up waiting patiently when suddenly this great track from way back starts to play on your car radio. Your frown turns into a smile and you start rocking your head back and forth to the beats awash with a feeling of elation as you forget about the traffic jam. That’s what music does.
But did you know that music can help you achieve that goal of shedding a few pounds? All you need is to get a playlist of your greatest high tempo songs, the kind that you can dance to vigorously. While most people are fans of Celine Dion, her genre of music won’t make the cut. It is simply too slow. So after getting your music in order you need to move to the next step. Music alone wont get you far.
Invest in good dance gear. A good sports bra and a pair of spandex tights rounded off with soft heel sneakers is ideal for the ladies. You can use jogging sneakers for this. A cotton t-shirt, a pair of shorts and good sneakers will do for the guys. You can round up your girls or buddies to join you or can do it solo.
A healthier heart Dancing also has a great impact on your heart and metabolism. According to Dr. Simon Okello, a general practitioner at Mulago hospital, dance as a form of exercise help to boost the heart action by burning the fat that would otherwise accumulate in the blood vessels causing hypertension It also helps burn calories and as

Managing dance time Dancing for 20 minutes to an hour four to five days a week will enable you see results in a few months. One hour of dance burns about 446 calories if you weight less than 80Kg. If you weigh more then you see your calorie burn shoot up to about 532 calories for every hour.
The main Calorie burning dance moves. The key to burning fat during dance is to ensure that you move your whole body as you dance. Do not dance while focusing your body movements on one pair of body parts like say legs or the arms. Instead strive for a more wholesome movement that exercises all the parts of your body.
Signing up with a dance school. If you want to take a more professional approach to dancing for fitness then you can sigh up for dance sessions at a dance school. The most popular form of the day nowadays is Zumba although other genres like Salsa and hip-hop too are great for fitness. However you should stick to a strict dance regime if you are to enlist in dance school. It is very easy to show up whenever you feel like thereby hampering your ultimate goal.
The role of diet While dance is very instrumental in shedding those pounds, you need to watch what you eat so that your efforts are not futile. If you have been a junk
food junkie then you need to reduce on these. A diet rich in protein will help you build muscle and strength. Eggs, poultry, fish and organic beef are some of the protein rich foods you can choose from. Stay away from unnecessary sugars packed in pastries like cakes and cookies. Dance is one of the fun ways to achieve your fitness goals and she'd s few pounds, so get dancing.

e have in our hands a master piece and work of genius that has produced a magnificently beautiful and crystal clear video whose quality I have almost failed to relate to Ugandans baring in mind our association to mediocrity and compromising with quality even when resources are

Well the recent debate of whether Ugandan DJs shun our local talent (in preference for West African and Jamaican music) or whether Uganda artistes just produce bogus material seems to have had an immediate and effective impact for Ugandans are now producing quality videos we can be proud of. The subject of quality or lack of it has been discussed at length in relation to music videos done by local singers or video directors. And many artistes seem to have picked a leaf from Bebe Cool the instigator of the debates after his ‘Love You Everyday’ was passed fit for consumption by the international audience. Many Singers like Jose Chameleone (Wale wale, Milliano), Eddie Kenzo (Be Happy) Bobi Wine (Naku Miss), Irene Ntale (Kabugo), Radio and Weasel (Street lights) and others followed suit and started investing heavily on quality videos from both abroad and here at home. So Ugandan Artistes started thinking and investing big and the results are impressive as manifested in this particular work of art HERE by South African producer/director Nani Artistic who is the brain behind Fille and Ray Signature’s latest work ‘Gwe Asinga’. The song, whose audio was produced by the evergreen D-King, is promising and looks to go places on the airwaves although the magnificent video is threatening to over shadow the fantastic audio piece done by D-King. I am still trapped in-between either appreciating the quality of video or audio production more but will settle for both as the concepts are all fascinating and richly absorbing. The video has a wedding storyline inspired by the love message in the lyrics where the two singers vow to love each other till death as they mean the world to each other with praises heaped at each other for being the best of the rest. In the story, the groom sets for the wedding in a Mercedes Benz which breaks down en route to the venue where a priest awaits. They finally make it on foot after a brief scare and tension-packed moment for the bride and her entourage. The makeup is fluid, costume on point and color well balanced. Not to forget the lighting, camera angles and smooth scene transitions - this is the work of a professional.

He tries to get James ready for prison by intimidating with his "mad dog" face on several occasions but James can only "sad dog" him. Darnell further creates scenarios in which James must defend himself, like picking fights with random people at the park but only for him to be beaten multiple times. With just a few days before he is taken to prison, Darnell comes up with a massive plan for James to get involved in a gang, so that he can be protected on the inside. As time flies by Darnell discovers that James is indeed innocent of the fraud crime and it’s his father in-law ‘Martin’ who is the crook. SIMPLE GIRL LILIAN MBABAZI Lilian Mbabazi in Simplae girl video
Lilian Mbabazi is a former member of the former Blu*3. The defunct all girl group that also included Cindy Sanyu and Jackie Chandiru was formed after the Coka Cola pop stars competition. The girls broke off to start solo careers in 2010. Lilian known for songs like Vitamin, Kawa,Yegwe and New day is now signed to Deuces Entertainment Group(DEG)
A
fter Lilian Mbabazi and Atlas the African collaborated on the song New Day, it opened a new chapter in the former Blu*3 singers’ music career. She went into this partnership not knowing what awaited her in future. But a few months later she can look back and thank the gods that guided her to work with Atlas for the rapper linked her to Deuces Entertainment Group and a few days later she was signed to join the record label based in Kananga. And as we usually say, the rest is history. Fast forward, Lilian outs her first song ‘Simple Girl’ ‘which is expected to be the first in a series of bigger projects to come from the new management and it is as breath taking as they come. Lilian still remains the Lilian Mbabazi we always knew form Blu 3 and Coke studio; Strong with the vocals, comfortable with the keys and touching with the rhythm and flow. Chano8. June 2015
However there’s something different from this song and it is to do with the production and the overall arrangement of the song which we can confidently attribute to Deuces for obvious reasons. The choice and selection of the composition and aspects of the theme is very mature. Execution is on point and the writing is relevant especially considering the person churning the tune is almost perfectly moulded for these kinds of assignments. Talking about themes, the song is more of a prayer and plea to an ‘invisible’ super natural force seeking for strength and wisdom out of a tight situation. Lillian sings or rather cries as the voice for a simple girl who is forced to leave her miserable village life and home to seek a better life in the city. However, greener pastures are not always as green in the city as many people assume. Life has never been a bed
of roses in the city either as simple girl discovers. She cries, prays and begs for she feels the world and all its massive weight is resting on her shoulders. No matter how hard she tries, nothing seems to change in this world that gets even colder. Production of the song is on point too. The lister almost completely gets absorbed into the rhythm and flow to try and pick the lines. It is an afropop flow tending towards deep soul rhythms that sounds almost like an acapella with the distinctive sound of the acoustic guitar giving company to the sultry smooth voice. For a moment the listener is locked out of the world with only Lilian and her melodious back up voices talking. Nothing is interfering although a rich beat complete with ‘live’ drums is sizzling through. The video directed by Sasha vibes at Savy Films is the perfect icing on the cake.

Golden Band
Early last year, one of Uganda’s most celebrated, biggest and longest surviving bands The Eagles Production split over numerous reasons with the media giving different accounts of what exactly happened and why they separated. Ronald Mayinja explains to fans why they split
The Band still has that vibrant unique style they developed, with members having the freedom to work on individual projects like albums as well as concerts. They perform at various hotels, theatres and events and usually hang out at their Calender house home in Makindye. Inspired by the Kadongo Kamu veterans like the late Elly Wamala and Lord Fred Sebatta and their traditional afro-pop music, The Eagles production developed their own signature style and sound after incorporation the Congolese soukous and rumba done by the likes of Franco’s TPOK Jazz and Nyoka Longo’s Zaiko Langa Langa into the afro-beat and kadongo kamu traditional styles. They merged them to form their own genre which the fans loved because of the strong messages in the songs as well as the danceable rhythm and flow. They enjoyed massive support and some amassed a respectable material wealth. The band then split last year after numerous internal wrangles and disagreements where Mesach Semakula who was one of the leaders and founder members decided to Chano8. June 2015
