Ready For

Retirement?

Adapting your income plan to help achieve your retirement goals

When it comes to investing there are two unique phases of an investor’s life—accumulation and distribution. And, while accumulation requires us to understand asset allocation, asset location and the tax-consequences of our decisions, it really is not all that complicated. Sock as much money away as you can for as long as you can to help enhance your retirement picture. Once we retire, however, we enter into the distribution phase . . . and that’s where we see significant challenges and where many investors struggle. Why? Because generating retirement income is complicated, and many of the decisions that retirees face are irrevocable. For instance, are you aware that there are over 500 different and unique Social Security claiming strategies alone? And, with very few exceptions, once you make your Social Security choice, there is no going back. But there is so much more to consider than just Social Security when faced with creating a sustainable, tax-efficient and inflation-adjusted retirement income strategy. Pensions? 401(k)’s? IRA’s? Roth IRA’s? Roth IRA Conversions? Required Minimum Distributions? 403(b)’s? Mutual

Funds? Stocks? Bonds? Exchange Traded Funds? Variable Annuities? Fixed Annuities? Indexed Annuities? Immediate Annuities? REIT’s? Each of these investment strategies has distinct features, unique tax consequences and different expected outcomes. And, navigating these options can have a pretty significant impact on one’s retirement plan. We know that trying to sort out the best strategy for you and your family can be daunting and challenging. After all, there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer that works for everyone. So, you might want to consider working with a firm that specializes in retirement income planning. That’s really who we are and what we do. We work with you to build an effective retirement income plan to help you make the transition from accumulation to distribution with confidence and clarity. And, our founder, Ray Dunlap, has been helping families with these important decisions since 1984. If you’re close to retirement, do you feel prepared financially? If you’re already retired, are you confident that you are doing everything you can to help maximize your income options?

Ray Dunlap, CFP® , AIF® Founder and President

LIFESTYLE at a glance From Lifestyle Director, Susan Larence Hello Cresswind! Well…we made it out of 2020 and into 2021. It is nice to see the signs of spring and longer days of sunshine. I know I am ready for some gardening, biking, and spending more time outdoors in general. With the warmer weather here, I am so happy to be able to plan more events for larger groups. The Pavilion has been unexpectedly instrumental in being able to host these events over the past year. This coming May will mark my one year anniversary here as the Lifestyle Director at Cresswind Peachtree City. Time sure has flown by. Susan Larence Lifestyle Director

It is so good to know many of our residents are being vaccinated and can safely participate in events. As the year progresses, there hopefully should be a sense of a “return to normalcy” and with that a return to the larger events we are accustomed to such as Camp Cresswind, Liverpool Legends, and the Vendor Fairs. It will be so nice to be able to include family and friends again. Cresswind has broken ground for the last and final phase 5 which will add the final homes and complete the housing construction here in Peachtree City. There is more to see and read further into the magazine. It will also include much anticipated community garden that many are looking forward to. Hat’s off! Gloves off! Coats off! Here comes summer.

THE SEITZ FAMILY

Jan and Garry Seitz.

Cresswind® Peachtree City resident, Jan Seitz and Family.

O

EXPANDING THE FAMILY LOVE THROUGH ADOPTION

ur Adoption Story begins in 1974 when family-friends introduced me to my future husband, Garry. Both of us had been married previously and I had a 2-year-old son, Erich, who Garry lovingly referred to as a “two-for-one!” Though onlookers thought of our relationship as a rebound for both, we knew in our hearts that we were meant to be, and it felt that God had big plans in store. We married just a few months after our first meeting. Our first child, Jennifer, was born on our one-year anniversary. A few months before Jennifer’s first birthday, Garry sheepishly asked me how I felt about adoption, something we had not discussed during our whirlwind

courtship. Adoption had been on my heart since I was a child, so Garry’s question was met with great enthusiasm. Although we were informed by Cobb County’s Division of Family and Children Services that it would be 18 to 24 months until our home study could begin, we welcomed our first adopted child into our home just three months later. At 17 months old, Cary Paul was four months older than Jennifer, and dealing with physical challenges. Two years later, we welcomed siblings David (11) and Sharon (9), and months later, a biological son, Jeremiah. By the time Garry and I had our fifth wedding anniversary, we were a party of 8!

LIFESTYLE at a glance By 1982, our brood was living on a poultry farm near Athens, GA and in 1985 our next biological son was born, Luke. I felt that seven children was just perfect. Little did I know, God would continue to bring children to our home for various lengths of time over the next few years. Our adoption and foster story was still just beginning. Arunee, from Thailand, became our next adopted daughter. At age 18, she was emotionally young and still had two years of school to complete. She became a beloved addition to our family and opened all our eyes to the beauty of the Asian culture. Garry’s company had an opportunity to expand and we decided to move to Florida several years later, believing our adopting days were likely behind us, yet a random brochure made us aware of Vietnamese orphans in dire need of a family. In March 1995, Benjamin (6) and Bethany (8) came home to us in Ocala, FL: instantly a blessing and a delight. Heading into our 50’s, we were convinced these two offered a joyful way to take us into our old age: little did we know, they were the end of the beginning. In 2000, we moved to Lakeland, FL and soon learned of two Vietnamese sisters running out of time to be adopted together. Fighting against all odds, both financially and through international red tape, we brought Rachel (14) and Rebekah (10) home on Rachel’s birthday in 2003, the last possible day she was allowed to leave Vietnam. Through this effort we learned that “if God orders it, he will provide for it.” With these two girls, God seemed to renew our calling and therefore, in 2004, we welcomed home Joshua from China at age 11, and in 2005, Caleb, age 12. In the spring of 2007, we welcomed home Nathaniel and Noah (both 14), and sisters Hannah (14) and Abigail (13) from Ethiopia. With these four, we had seven children, dubbed “The Seitz Seven”. In this same year, China briefly decided to allow two unrelated children to be adopted together, and so Tabitha and Phoebe came home in December 2012. These two, now 21 years old, are currently living with me here in Cresswind! The number of orphans worldwide is staggering (nearly 150 million) and it is easy to question the small impact one might be able to offer. A familiar story is about a little boy standing on the seashore amidst thousands of starfish that had washed up on the beach. As he painstakingly picked them up one at a time and threw them back in the sea, an older and “wiser” gentleman came along and said, “You’re wasting your time, son. There are too many to save. What difference can you make?” At that, the boy picked up one more, threw it in the ocean and replied, “it made a difference to that one.” This is exactly how we have come to view our family. Sadly, my sweet and generous Garry developed Lewy Body Dementia and passed in 2018. Just over a year later, our precious 26-year-old Nathaniel passed in his sleep, an extended autopsy could find no cause. Losing both these men leaves a huge hole in my life and in our family. I believe each one of our children came to us by divine circumstances and each one has a miraculous story. We are humbled to take part in each of these awesome, precious lives.

WE A L TH MANAG EMENT

INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

Do you ever consider if you are getting the best financial advice? Are you receiving advice focused on solving your known (and unknown) problems? Are you on the road to living your fullest life? Here is the problem – planning doesn't cover every stage of a family's financial journey. Most guidance stays in a "single lane" of focus ignoring the complexities of a person's unique financial situation. At Anson, we understand you need more (and deserve more) while working towards achieving your dreams. You need a team with a personal touch that pays attention to every detail and has the experience to solve your most complex problems. Since I started Anson 17 years ago, I knew my calling was to build a firm where a personal touch, extreme

attention to detail, and a different approach was the best way to change lives. Now, we have a team of people whose mission is to provide life-changing financial advice with the highest level of standards.

We offer a no-obligation second opinion on your portfolio.

You have worked hard to build your wealth and at Anson we want to ensure you're taking appropriate steps with a focus on getting the best results. Working with a limited number of clients allows us to do things differently. Our background provides us the ability to work in all three lanes. And by doing so, we can keep your road smooth, and enable you to help the people you love and the causes you care about. Sam Sweitzer, CFA Principal

In 2017, Scott Hunter, MBA, and President of Hunter Wealth Management moved his business from Albany, GA to Peachtree City to get back closer to home and family. His Dad, J. Lee Hunter, MBA, PE, came out of retirement to join Scott in the business. They began serving Scott’s clients in August 2017. Over the past 3 years, the business has continued to grow. In 2019, Scott, who has been a Financial Advisor for 14+ years, was named to the FORBES 2019 Best-In-State wealth Advisors List for the State of Georgia by Forbes Magazine. “It was an honor to be named to this ranking,” Hunter said. “Each day, I show up with one goal in mind—helping my clients succeed financially. It was exciting to be recognized for doing what I love to do, so needless to say, being named to this list was an incredible honor.” Scott now has a team in place to better serve the needs of the growing number of clients. Additionally, Hunter Wealth Management has added a branch office at 430 South 8th Street in Griffin, Georgia. Scott and his team would like the opportunity to meet with you and discuss how they might help you succeed financially. Call them at 770-282-3535 to set up a meeting or email Scott at scott.hunter@wfafinet.com. Check out the web site at www.hunterwm.com.
