LIFESTYLE at a glance From the outgoing Lifestyle Director, Nicole Jurovics I remember putting on a hard hat and touring the framed-out Clubhouse on my first day as Lifestyle Director at Cresswind PTC. I was told it would be at least 6 months before the Clubhouse was finished (it was 8 months) but there were several homes already occupied in the community and we needed to create a social event somewhere close by so everyone could connect and get to know each other. Our first event was a wine & cheese social in the Design Center. We put slips of paper in a jar after writing down one interesting fact about ourselves, and then we read each slip and tried to guess who - - was newlyweds, and who -- just moved here from California, and who -- collected snow globes from all over the world? It was silly and it wasn’t my finest event, but I remember looking around the small space and thinking how lucky I was to have a job that required me to meet and provide programming for such a diverse, interesting, and funny collection of neighbors. Exactly 3 years later, Cresswind PTC is more than halfway full and we have created a true CommUnity. From Tai Chi in the parking lot before the Clubhouse was finished, to
non-stop classes and events. We’ve enjoyed outdoor concerts with the greatest Elvis Tribute artist in the world (Dean Z), we’ve celebrated grandchildren with Camp Cresswind (an exhausting and adorable day each July), you’ve created Clubs that bring people together with a shared interest (be it card games, hiking, or playing Pickleball), we’ve stayed active with a growing list of fitness classes, and we’ve stayed up late dancing and laughing. You’ve also looked out for each other, during difficult times, especially recently. As I move on to help start up another community, Cresswind at Twin Lakes, I do so with immense gratitude. Your new Lifestyle Director, Susan Larence, will find new ways of creating community engagement, and eventually we will gather together for hugs and high fives, similar to the way we did before Covid-19. And I will attempt to bring some good energy to a new community, working toward memorable events that keep us connected and excited for the future. Thank you for sharing your lives with me. Hello Summer, Hello Cresswind! I would like to introduce myself as the new Lifestyle Director at Cresswind in Peachtree City. What an interesting time to take a position, which is mainly focused on planning social events. Despite the current circumstances, I am very much looking forward to planning and hosting future events and have lots of creative ideas and solutions to keep the doldrums at bay. I welcome your input, as well. Your happiness is important to me. Of course, we want to move forward in the safest way and want our residents to remain as healthy as possible. I am so impressed by the Cresswind community and your ability to adapt during this challenging time. Seeing some of your creativity while maintaining social distancing is especially impactful. Let’s keep it up and I look forward to many successful events moving forward.

“The Walkie Talkies” Hiking Club
O
ne of Cresswind’s original clubs is The Walkie Talkies, originated by Karla White. Don and Miki Stork have been invaluable in leading hikes, when Karla is traveling. She and her husband Jeff spend several months each winter in Arizona. They have a very active hiking club hiking 4–12 miles in the mountains, twice a week. Karla wanted to create a similar, but modified, experience here. She’s found that hiking in a group creates community and you get to know your neighbors better. The club meets once a quarter to pick the hikes. The club goal is to walk/hike at least twice a month on the Peachtree City Golf Cart paths. We schedule these at various times, depending on weather, heat index and hike leader availability. The walkers still work some, so hike times are changed around to accommodate differing schedules. These walks average around 4 miles in length and walkers end up

spreading out a bit, due to fitness levels. A few shorter 2–3 mile hikes will be added to encourage new residents to join us. We’ve walked about 25 of the 100 mile cart path system. Karla said. “It’s awesome to hear all the comments from hikers when they realize how many gorgeous, scenic sections of the path system are available. They feel they’re in a state park, not a town.” The club also schedules an “off site” hike once a month. These hikes are usually 1–2 hour drives and they carpool. A fun lunch spot is chosen to enjoy after hiking. Don led a hike to Sweetwater Creek State Park in March. It was a hike through meadows, forest and along the rapids of Sweetwater Creek and also by the ruins of an old Civil War era mill. The club hiked F.D.R. State Park, near Pine Mountain, during fall leaf change. Gorgeous views of yellow, red and orange leaves on stands of hardwoods and longleaf pine.
Providence Canyon was a club favorite, it’s called Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon. Unusual geological formations created by erosion of the Coastal Plain, created the canyons. Kennesaw Mountain and Stone Mountain were weathered out (several times) and they look forward to hiking those this season. A hiking gem, The Hike Inn, located at Amicalola Falls State Park, is scheduled for November 9th thru 11th. It’s about a three hour hike on a well maintained trail. Hiking Springer Mountain, on the 2nd day, is an option for a hike of about 9 miles. It’s the starting point to the Appalachian Trail Northbound. The Inn is a back-country lodge, that’s only accessible by hiking in – thus the name Hike Inn. For more information contact Karla White at karlaandjeff07@gmail.com or 678-525-1433.

n Thursday, June 4th, 2020 we hosted our first ever Drive-In Concert! Because we have to keep ourselves and our neighbors healthy and safe, this personally distant approach to a community event was an exciting experiment. And what a great first of its kind! The hugely talented John Driskell Hopkins, current and founding member of the Grammy-winning (and Georgia’s own) Zac Brown Band, performed a 75-minute set of originals and a few notable covers. John’s unique baritone voice filled the large space, along with his drummer, Mike Rizzi, and keyboard player, Brian Bisky, who kept the harmonies loud and full. Full-sized cars used every other parking space, and the golf cars used opposite ends of the spaces in order to create distance between each attendee. Lawn chairs and tailgating could be seen from every corner of the lot and although the sun was beating down, the community found shade from their vehicle or portable umbrellas and the concert was ultimately a beautiful way to be together safely. We can’t wait for the next one! Next up, the Cresswind house band, Last Shot, will kickoff Independence Day weekend with a concert behind the Clubhouse on Friday evening, July 3rd! Bring a picnic and find a spot on the lawn, spaced at least sixfeet from your neighbors, and enjoy a night of music under the stars and stripes! And watch for an announcement about our next Drive-In Concert…..coming soon!
