Welcome F
ollowing closely on the launch of PAN 2017, was the launch of another new division within the CB Group – Imagination Farms, with the ‘Homegrown’ brand commencing with the production and supply of selected crops namely Scotch Bonnet peppers, Sweet Corn, and Onions. Our goals include sustainable production of these crops at required efficiency levels. Our successful accomplishment would allow for import substitution and export opportunities, while improving supplies on the local market. We look forward to the growth and development of this division. Another of our newer operations, Peninsula Farms, celebrated its first year of broiler production. We congratulate the staff at this location for the commitment displayed as they continue to perform desired level of efficiencies. The Nutramix brand will again be featured in the upcoming Denbigh Agricultural Show with farmers showing the value of Nutramix – The Big Feed. Nutramix’s second staging of the all island domino competition is now in full swing with reported increase level of participation by customers and farmers.
Mr. A. Eaton Barrett welcome

goes public! An important day in our history is July 18th, 2017. This day marked the introduction of Imagination Farms Ltd to the public as CB Group’s third Division, after Foods and Feeds, and our newest company dedicated to local produce. Did you know that in 2016, 2 million kgs of peppers were imported? Or that every year, Jamaica imports the majority of our sweet corns? Or that Jamaica imports 85% of our onions? It is for these reasons Imagination Farms will focus on crops that can be substitutes for the imports flooding our Jamaican markets and on crops that have substantial export potential like the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Pepper that is in high demand from countries all over the world. Sharing our story was CBG’s Matthew Lyn and supporting our mission was Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda.
The first brand under Imagination Farms was unveiled. Homegrown will include all freshly picked produce such as scotch bonnet peppers, sweet corn, onion and sorrel. 6

Double Downs in Kingston July 19 and 20 marked the return of #MTC, increasingly being known in the industry as the pork lovers’ seminar. US restaurateur and award-winning Chef Charlie McKenna returned to Jamaica to share his expertise in how to present, cut and cook the different cuts. Dr T Dean Pringle - Animal & Dairy Science Professor at the University of Georgia, made his first trip to Jamaica to share his expertise with our guests - supermarket and wholesale owners, butchers, restaurant owners, chefs and porklovers. Topics included meat safety, chemical composition, cross contamination, storage as well as how to process pork - the right way. Each day, Dr Pringle demonstrated how to cut a pig carcass for optimum value, and for different cuts. Check out the highlights! 8

A Big Baby Shower
It was a family filled fun day at the 7th annual staging of A Big Baby Shower held at ATL’s Oxford Road property on July 1. The event, coined by B3 Parenting’s CEO (and Indulge editor) Michelle Gordon, provides a single destination where new, expectant and experienced parents can receive product and service information and practical resources when it comes to parenting. CB Foods returned this year to provide wholesome foods to families and exhibitors alike. With our village-like setup at previous Expos, the CB Foods food court also had a photo booth and a Live Better vox pop section where fellow Jamaicans shared just what living better means to them. Check out the highlights and follow @LiveBetterWithCBFoods on social media to check out the vox pop videos! 10

puts turkeys on the market Earlier this summer, turkey poults were sold to our local farmers through Newport Mills. Specially made turkey feed is processed in our mills just for them. All the Nutramix poults were vaccinated upon arrival to Jamaica and our experts at Nutramix provide our customers advice on proper housing, brooding, feed and water management, spacing as well as medication and preventing diseases. Check out some of the turkeys at about 6 weeks old.
Be prepared for turkeys on the market this Christmas thanks to Nutramix!
Did you know? • Turkey breast meat contains less calories and fat than most other cuts of meat. • Turkey contains vitamins B-6 and B-12, niacin, choline, zinc and selenium - important for many bodily processes, including cognitive function, a healthy immune system, and fertility. Spread the word and follow @FarmNutramix to stay posted.

Domino fever flames from the East With the buzz of the competition intensifying among farmers island-wide, persons are traveling from near and far to compete for a chance to move on to the Grand Final on September 16. July 1 saw 46 teams turn out at Melbourne Cricket Club, Kingston, and the following week, a full 64 teams in last year’s most flocked venue - Rudolph Elder Park, St Thomas. Then the competition then rolled over west to St Elizabethon the 18th then to Mandeville Park on the 22nd where a heated last round between finalists - a local Mandeville pair and last year’s St Thomas Champion team led to a default declaring of the regional winner. Host Dufton Duffy Sheperd knows just how to keep the crowds excited with games, giveaways and mini-competitions and our PAN men are always serving up delicious pan chicken each week! Big congrats to our Regional winners so far! Parish

Regional winners walked away with the $50,000 cash prize as well as trophies and other prizes. Guess what… it’s Kingston players that won in St Thomas, and St Thomas players than won in Mandeville. You can just imagine the competitive and territorial spirits ablaze! A big thank you to our volunteers who spend their Saturday evenings with Nutramix and our farmers! 12
