Bigger and Better at Expo Jamaica
April 19-22 marked the 2nd staging of CB Foods being the Title Food Sponsor of Expo Jamaica. We doubled the space at the exit of the National Arena where visitors to the 4 day showcase would be greeted with white and red and the smell of jerk aromas. We had offerings of Bad Dawg Sausages, Copperwood spare ribs and jerk pork, PAN chicken courtesy of our previous PAN winners and runnersup, Caribbean Passion pasta and sandwiches and Happy Soups. It was the first time that we had popcorn chicken, Homegrown corn and Bonafide Burgers at Expo and we must say, those were absolute hits! Many were surprised to learn that some of the brands were a part of the CB family, and were happy with the range of affordable options, clean environment and family friendly vibes in the Village. 2
The event really helped to tie all our brands to the CB Foods name, and the #LIVEBETTER campaign. A big thank you once again to our volunteers who ran the cashier booths and assisted with other operations! 2020 will mark our third and final year in our contract with the JMA and JEA as Food Sponsor.

Wins Most Informative Exhibitor at Expo Jamaica In an effort to expound on its #KNOWYOURPORK campaign, Copperwood Pork brand built an ultrainteractive Exhibitor’s Booth at Expo Jamaica that simulated its pork plant in Copperwood. The design, complete with entrance and exit ways, allowed for visitors to have personal tours led by the CB Foods Marketing and Sales team.

The exhibitor booth was uniquely created to depict the campaign’s five facets, referred to as the “5 F’s” – F1 Gilts, Feed, Farm, Fresh and Factory. As patrons approached the booth, they were greeted with a smile and plastic cover booties, LED floor screens to replicate ‘foot baths’ at the plant, gloves, hair nets and white coats before washing and sanitizing hands at the sink. Homegrown reaping produce, gets special visitor Fresh from his appointment to his new post, Hon. Audley Shaw, now Minister of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries visited Imagination Farms – Harvest Hub on April 6. Just in time to see the reaping of our onion crop, he was very encouraged by the quality of the bulbs and the high yield from the fields. IF will reap 12 acres of Mercedes and Polaris onions this month. In the next few months about 20 more acres will be planted. We hope to be able to put a major dent in the importation of onions into the country. Our goal is to produce enough onions this year to reduce importation by 10%. We celebrate the two year anniversary of Drink Real Milk, the educational campaign geared toward increasing public knowledge of ‘real milk’ and its nutritional benefits. The DRM campaign continues to promote the sustainability of the Jamaican dairy industry. It’s original partners – Nutramix, Fersan, the Jamiaca Dairy Development Board (JDDB) and Seprod – have recommitted their support, while welcoming new partners.

Two prominent Jamaican milk producers and distributors - Island Dairies and Edwards Dairy of Westmoreland, along with Mapex - a supplier of agricultural, industrial and energy equipment, were officially introduced as the new partners of DRM at a media launch held at F&B Downtown Restaurant on April 24. NPG & Cold Storage Match Up The six-a-side football match was between NPG and Cold Storage on March 24, 2018 at around 5:00pm at the Hi-Pro football field. The game ended 2/1 to cold storage. The goal scorer for NPG was Amari Williamson. The first goal was scored by Cold Storage within the first 20 minutes of the game, and the equalizer came in the 26th minute from NPG. The second goal was netted with 20 minutes left in the game, which lasted one hour. The next game is to be set after the rally is played. It was a six aside team.

A little under a year ago Happy Foods completed its move to a new home at Freetown. This move also marked an expansion of our production space, capacity and team.

Happy Foods Soups Do PriceSmart RoadShow Tuesday April 25 – Sunday April 29 saw Happy Foods at PriceSmart doing a ‘Road Show’. What took place? A sampling station of our delicious Red Peas with Pigs Tail and Homestyle Chicken Pumpkin soups Back to back promo days in-store Kevin Smith and a promo team handed out and soup samples. The 32oz retail tubs were on sale, and within the first few hours of the promotion, we sold a case of soups. We’ll be awaiting decision from PriceSmart as to their decision to carry both flavours on their shelves! Help us to get Happy Foods in PriceSmart by requesting our soups when you visit the store.

New life to
Finance & Accounting A year has passed since the Finance and Accounting Team has undergone changes. They moved office spaces, added new team members and celebrated some promotions. Even with piles of work to do they are energized and making things happen.
There’s new life in the old city! Every Friday we (Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables – wi live good!) get together to recharge our batteries and prepare ourselves for the next week. On April 19th the Scientific Research Council hosted a science and technology fair ideation session for several students in and around the Western Parishes. These sessions were conducted as preparation for the National Science and Technology Fair later this year.

Earth Day 2018
In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, a small group of CB volunteers joined JET for a beach cleanup at Fort Rocky to play our part in the global movement to #EndPlasticPollution. Together with JET, the team collected 25 bags of garbage in just one hour weighing an estimated 300lbs! This is just one of the many ways we can continue to Live Better as a community for a cleaner environment! 17

Annual Thanksgiving Service
On Sunday April 29th, CB Group held its annual thanksgiving service at Webster Memorial United Church. Pastor Rev. Astor Carlyle led the service under the theme, “Forgiveness”.
CB Group staff filled the congregation with their families and together gave thanks and learnt about the pillars of forgiveness to live by. Gospel group “A.C.T.S” gave a moving performance, and 18

choking or blocking their stomachs. These pollutants also eventually make their way up the food chain and enter our diets as well, threatening our health as well.
The ocean is an amazing place, home to the most diverse assortment of life on the planet. Even though it makes up 71% of our planet, we know less about it than we do about our solar system. But despite being the lifeblood of our planet, our oceans, and by extension our livelihoods, are under threat. Now what exactly is happening to our oceans and why should we be concerned?
Humans harm our oceans in two ways: we either add too much to them, or take too much from them. Every so often, we hear about horrific oil spills killing wildlife and about large-scale industries, from mining, to manufacturing, to tourism, dumping their wastewater and sewage into rivers and oceans. Additionally, it’s hard to forget about the 2.4 million tonnes of plastic that makes its way into the seas each year; experts estimate that by 2050, there will be as much waste plastic in the ocean by mass as there are fish. The most obvious example of this is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the largest of five offshore plastic accumulation zones, located between California and Hawaii. It is a large soup of fine pieces of plastic, floating over an area of 1.6 million square kilometres (three times the size of France). This pollution alters the chemistry of our seas, harms marine ecosystems, kills corals and the wildlife that inhabit them by poisoning, entangling,

The massive amount of carbon dioxide we release into the atmosphere also harms our oceans. In addition to making the ocean more acidic causing coral reefs to die, this air pollution warms the planet, causing polar ice caps to melt and sea levels to rise. This will soon lead to the erosion of our beaches and flooding of seaside settlements, posing a major risk to Jamaica. Even here in Jamaica we’re feeling the consequences of hurting our oceans. Irresponsible dumping, improper fishing practices and overfishing are killing our coral environments. As a result, we are seeing huge decreases in the populations of very important species like parrotfish. Parrotfish remove excess algae from the reefs and seas, while producing white sand. The decline in parrotfish, in addition to beach erosion means our beaches are slowly disappearing. You can help to protect our oceans by being responsible with what we add to and take from our oceans. Using fewer disposable items, especially plastics, switching to biodegradable products and passing on parrotfish can go a long way. You can also reduce your energy

consumption, and support others doing good work, like JET’s “Big Up Wi Beach” and “Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica” campaigns or NEPA’s “Adopt a Beach” program. By respecting the 12 fish sanctuaries and protected no-fishing zones across the island put in place by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, you help fish populations to replenish themselves. You can also support conservation groups like the Montego Bay Marine Park, which engages communities in habitat restoration projects to make a difference for our marine environments, or donate to other well doing organizations.

1. Put eggs in a medium pot, cover with water by 1 inch and bring to a boil over mediumhigh heat. Cover, remove from heat and leave undisturbed for 12 minutes. Drain, fill with cool water, add ice and set aside until chilled, about 5 minutes. Peel and cut eggs in half transferring whites to a platter and yolks to a large bowl.

¼ cup Fage Total Greek yogurt - buy a small single serve container ¼ cup Hellmann’s mayonnaise 1

12 grape tomatoes, cut into quarters, or 1 medium ripe Roma tomato, cut into small cubes Micro green arugula or use a few medium romaine lettuce leaves, halved and very thinly sliced
2. Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate. Coarsely chop when cool enough to handle. 3. Combine the cooked yolks, yogurt, mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper and shallot - mash with a fork until well combined and smooth. 4. Just before serving, fold in the tomato and half of the bacon. put a few shreds of lettuce into each egg and add a dollop of yolk mixture into the middle. Garnish with a little more of the bacon.

1 (12oz) box Penne Pasta
1. Cook pasta according to package directions, and reserve ½ cup of the pasta water.
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 (12oz) package Caribbean Passion Sausage, sliced rounds ½

1 whole scotch bonnet pepper diced (de-seeded for less spice) ¼ cup white wine or chicken broth 2 clv
garlic minced
1 (15oz) can of corn drained 1 (15oz) can of diced tomatoes drained 1 (8oz) package of cream cheese room temperature 1 cup
freshly grated parmesan room temperature
¼ cup fresh basil leaves chopped
2. Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the olive oil and sausage, and brown for about 3-5 minutes. 3. Add onion and jalapeno and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until onion is soft. 4. De-glaze with ¼ cup white wine, let it cook for about 60 seconds. 5. Stir in the garlic, corn, and tomatoes, and cook, stirring often, until the corn is warmed through, another 2 minutes. 6. Stir in cream cheese, reserved pasta water, and parmesan. Mix until parmesan has melted and cream cheese has incorporated. 7. Remove from heat, stir in pasta and basil and serve immediately.
