“It was the best of times and the worst of times”. Best because it is the month when we have celebrated the liberation from the many adversities which the population has overcome. Worst because it has now imposed on us an awesome stress and responsibility as to how we direct the rest of our lives. This is the month when our children’s’ excitement is at a peak as they are decked out with uniforms, books and a new back pack to enter the hallowed halls of the schools that will guide and direct them and indeed set the stage on which the rest of their lives will be played out. “All the world is a stage; and the men and women mere players. They have their exits and their entrances…” How they will play has yet to be decided. The many CB parents are currently deeply imbedded in this. We know that the ladder up to a better place rests on education. Each rung is a struggle, but we know that we cannot fail our children lest we fail ourselves. Some of us have saved for it. Many have committed to a loan. Others have depended on families and friends. The Cliché that “it takes a village to raise a child” remains truer than ever. Many of our children, through their own efforts; “by your sweat you shall eat bread”, have earned scholarships from our own CB, whose directors empathize with the needs of the team sustaining it. 1

We note the efforts being made to upgrade the schools, hospitals and general administrative structures to make it easier to “live, move and have our being”. We equally note evidence of a heightened sense of social responsibility being displayed by the private and business sectors in the overall scheme of things. It has helped to create a greater feeling of wellbeing in the population who in their songs, music and dance continuously now declare that “Jamaica is the best place to live”.

And it’s Reggae Alley Bar & Grill for the Win Summer has ended and with that, we tallied up the sales for the participating restaurants in the Road to the Goal promotion. With 100 (Hope Road) looking like they were slated to win, it was Reggae Alley Bar & Grill in Ohco Rios who swooped in during the last week to take home the winning trophy, and grand prize of six Sony plasma TVs for the staff. Members from the Full House Friday team of FAME 95 FM brought their blazing energy along with some members of Copperwood Marketing and Sales teams to pay a special visit to the restaurant on August 14th to personally congratulate the staff and celebrate the victory. We had to taste for ourselves the delicious jerk pork that led to the restaurant’s win! Safe to say, bellies were filled and bowls were empty! Congratulations again to owner Mr Allen and his deserving team. If you’re ever in Ocho Rios, off Main Street you’ll find Reggae Alley Bar and Grill and its sister restaurant Kristo’s Café & Wine Bar in the Taj Mahal Shopping Centre. Pay them a visit and try their jerk pork! 2

A Front Runner

Summer It was two weekends of jumping horses, side saddling and cutie pie dogs when Front Runner visited the St Ann Polo Club for the Stewart’s League Jumping Competition on June 24th and the Summer Training Rally on July 7th.

The final meet of the Stewart’s League Jumping Competition concluded with exemplary performances from riders and a presentation of Front Runner vouchers to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each Category of Jumping. The Front Runner team was onsite to provide horse riders information on the benefits of feeding their champion horses Front Runner feed.

The following weekend, Front Runner went back to the Polo Club to watch budding professional horse riders sharpen their skills at the Summer Training Rally, organized by Equestrian instructor Heidi Lalor. The day’s scheduled activities included different classes to improve the horse education and riders’ position and balance. 6

Learning a thing or two, The Front Runner team left the Summer Training Rally feeling like a fellow Front Runner champion horse rider!

DRM joins partner Seprod in launch of 0% Fat Milk In an effort to make drinking real cow’s milk enjoyable and palatable for everyone, Drink Real Milk campaign partner, Serge Dairy Islands, a subsidiary of Seprod, launched their 0% Fat Milk on July 25th at Emancipation Park. The new addition represents the company’s pursuit to provide high-quality and healthy products for all Jamaicans. Hosted by Quite Perry, the evening included fun activities, giveaways and sampling of Serge’s range of milk. He was joined by Serge 0% Fat Brand Ambassador Shani McGraham-Shirley who challenged patrons to participate in short fitness contests and a 45-minute dancehall inspired exercise routine. Then, Agent Sasco closed out the launch with his “I’m Winning” performance. Of course, the DRM team was on location in support of our partner’s efforts and engaging the patrons by educating them of the importance of drinking real cow’s milk. At Peninsula our main focus is animal welfare production which sees the farm team divided into two main teams - the Animal HusbandryProduction team and the General Sanitation team. The Animal Husbandry Production team’s main focus is the birds. The provision of adequate quality water and feed, optimum ventilation, and maintenance of high quality bedding are their top priorities. The General Sanitation team ensures that Peninsula aestethics is maintained and that the overalll location remains the most beautiful location under the brand. Utilization of motorized bush cutters and machetes keep the lawns groomed and in excellent condition.

Happenings at Newport Mills Celebrate Good Times At NPM, we embrace every opportunity to eat cake! We especially love birthdays as we get to celebrate the lives of our family members and the daily joy we bring to each other. The family that eats cake together stays together.

Vessel Operation A lot of manual labour goes into vessel operation. However, our team enjoys it and is willing to go “overboard” to ensure Whole Corn, Soybean Meal and Yellow Grease are unloaded from the ships in a timely manner.

Fire Safety We recently hosted a fire safety awareness session in which our team members actively participated. Behind them is our little farm where we cultivate a variety of tropical fruit on a small scale. Celebrating the last day of Denbigh with our super Nutramix team! It’s always a good time when they are all in the same space.

Mobile Banking Security Tips you need to know Mobile banking services are becoming increasingly popular in Jamaica. One day in the near future you will be using mobile banking if you are not already doing so. Here are 9 tips to keep you safe!

Create a strong Password. Avoid using very common password ideas, such as your birth date, your middle name or your pet’s name. Instead, create something random but rememberable. Also, use alphanumeric combinations whenever possible.

Be wary of any social media links you receive on your phone as well. Many times, these can be used to install malware on your mobile device in order to steal personal information.

Never use a public or unknown Wi‑Fi internet connection to work on your mobile banking application. Even someone who doesn’t have experience in programming can instantly connect to your tablet or phone and steal information from it. 14

Don’t click on the links you receive through email- not even if the sender is your mobile banking service provider. Hackers can create logos, emails and even entire websites that look exactly the same as banks and thus, they can attract users into unknowingly sharing their passwords with them.

Never leave your mobile banking application logged on. Never. Imagine what would happen if you lost your phone and if someone could have access to your bank accounts and credit cards!

Always be on the lookout for https:// websites while doing online transactions of any kind. These sites offer a connection secure enough to ensure that no third parties can see the information you enter on these sites.

Our annual Summer Internship Programme kicked off on June 11th as we welcomed future stars on board. The interns 12-week work experience journey spanned over 5 departments (QMS, IT, Live Production, Marketing and Finance & Accounting) and provided the college students with personal and professional development to help better prepare them for employability in the future. The Internship programme was designed to: 1. Attract young talent for future recruitment 2. Encourage mentorship 3. Develop the agri-business sector in Jamaica 4. World Cup Mania With 2018 being another year of World Cup football, it was only natural that CB Group joined in and created its own exciting competition. CBG hosted its World Cup Mania, A competition open to all members of staff at all locations allowing them to predict the scores and winners of individual matches and also the overall champion. The winner was chosen based on most points accumulated throughout the World Cup. We saw even non-football fans following the World Cup very closely! With over 100 participants, we big up Jenieze Mitchell from the QMS department for the most precise predictions! She walked away with a 40â€? Smart TV, Champion Trophy, CB Water Bottle & Bag, Football, a bottle of Wine and a Cake to celebrate!

But it’s Just a Tree?

The strangest birthday present I ever received was rainfall and temperature in m a c h i n e s to ex t r a c t a cherry tree. I had just returned from lunch when one of my co-workers pulled me aside to surprise me with a room full of friends and a hearty chorus of “Happy Birthday!”, just as a warm scandal bag filled with dirt and one frail, leafy stem protruding from the centre, was thrust into my hands. With a mix of emotions, from elation to bewilderment, I thanked my co-workers for their well wishes while trying to mask my confusion – “Did they really just give me a tree? As a birthday present?” I didn’t think much of it at the time, until some unsuspecting stranger, unbeknownst to me, took a liking to my gift and walked off with my cherry tree, for it never to be seen again. What a steal – Literally. For I would later come to appreciate what a great gift it was, and how useful a tree could have actually been. If you’re thinking – “But it’s just a tree?” – have you ever thought about all the ways trees make our lives better? For starters, everyone knows trees provide shade and fruit (depending on the tree). But did you know trees also regulate

the environment by absorbing heat and adding moisture to the air? Their roots also hold the soil and its moisture in place, reducing dust in the air while preventing soil erosion and flooding. In addition to buffering against noise pollution by absorbing harsh sound waves, trees also beautify landscapes and communities, while increasing property values. When managed sustainably, trees are also a great renewable resource, supplying wood, paper, corks, rubber, wax, oils, cosmetics, and medicines among so many others.

On a global scale, trees are also part of the answer to rapid climate change. For example, as some engineers tr y to build expensive

20

greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere, others point out that trees already do this, but for much, much cheaper! Instead, why not plant more trees and fight to end the widespread deforestation happening across the world? Even when placed indoors, plants still have great benefits. Most plants have psychological calming effects such as reducing stress and boosting productivity and creativity. In addition to removing carbon dioxide and replacing it with fresh oxygen, many plants like the “snake plant”, “areca palm” or “dracaena” are great at pulling toxins like formaldehyde from the air (according to NASA). Some also help to reduce mould and dust while acting

as natural humidifiers. This helps to reduce irritation and boost wellness in homes and offices alike. In light of this, we have begun replacing our office plants with more of NASA’s recommended air purifying plants. In the same spirit, we have undertaken the challenge of planting 1,000 trees across Jamaica within a year! A large task, yes, but not an impossible one! We invite you to join us on this challenge by volunteering for our recurring tree planting activities. As a part of this challenge, you may also notice some of our birthday presents from P&C are going green as well. Not everyone has to be a tree hugger, but we can all appreciate the ways trees and plants are key to our efforts to Live Better. 21

Copperwood Pork Pork & Pineapple Red Thai Curry

DIRECTIONS

1 tbsp peanut oil

1. Heat a large wok over high heat. Add oil. Swirl to coat. Add onion. Stir-fry for 3 minutes or until softened. Add pork. Stir-fry for 3 minutes or until browned. Add curry paste. Cook for 1 minute or until fragrant.

2 tbsp Thai red curry paste 8oz can coconut milk 1 cup

liquid stock

1½ tbsp fish sauce 1 tbsp brown sugar ¼ small fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, chopped

2. Add coconut milk and stock. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes or until sauce thickens and pork is cooked through. Add fish sauce, sugar and pineapple. Simmer for 2 minutes or until heated through. Stir in lime juice. 3. Spoon curry into serving bowls. Top with coriander and shallots. Serve with rice and enjoy!

Chippenham Eggs Sheet Pan Egg, Sweet Potatoes and Black Bean Hash

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

6 large Chippenham Eggs

1. Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 425°F. Lightly oil a rimmed baking sheet or coat with cooking spray.

2 med zucchini, sliced 1 med red sweet pepper, diced ½ cup sweet corn 3 tbsp olive oil 3

ground cumin

Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 2 tbsp coarsely chopped fresh cilantro leaves (optional)

2. Place the sweet potatoes, zucchini, bell pepper and corn in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Add the olive oil, garlic, chilli powder, cumin, and paprika. Season with salt and pepper and gently toss to combine. 3. Bake, stirring halfway through, until the sweet potatoes are tender, 15 to 18 minutes total. Remove the pan from the oven and create 6 wells in the vegetables. Gently crack an egg into each well, keeping the yolk intact; season the eggs with salt and pepper. 4. Return the pan to the oven and bake until the egg whites are set, 7 to 9 minutes. Serve immediately, garnished with cilantro, if desired.
