CBG Family,
Happy New Year. Although 2019 has already started to run ahead of us, it’s still hard to believe that 2018 came and went so quickly. We achieved much together this last year; new brands, new services, and new constituent companies to name a few. It’s been a busy last few years indeed, but bigger and greater things remain ahead. 2019 is the year of CB Group’s most ambitious project yet. As you know we broke ground on The Nest over a year ago, celebrating along with our community and industry partners. Now with much planning and permitting behind us, our new plant will be storming ahead as at The Nest we are expecting to start construction of the buildings in the coming month. We hope to be in operation within the first quarter of 2020 and if the hurricane season treats us well, and with our hard work and God’s blessings, the plant may even be an extra special 2019 Christmas gift. Every year around this time I look back at the goals achieved and opportunities missed in the year before. I encourage you to do the same, and hope your wins tally greater than the hard lessons learned. Either way, understand that those hard lessons will always come –– often before the wins, but it’s what we take away from them and how we bounce back that matters. All the best,

Nutramix closes out a year of “Women in Agriculture”
Empowered Women Building one industry through diverse careers
Who run the world? girls! It was an extraordinary year for Nutramix and our “Women in Agriculture” initiative. To express our heartiest gratitude to the Winning Women in Agriculture and their contributions, the Nutramix team invited the ladies to an afternoon of celebration at Fromage Bistro on December 13th. A table filled with food and a room bursting with laughter was the perfect way to close out a year of inspiration and empowerment. In between sips and bites, the ladies discussed the success of the campaign, and the achievements in their professional lives, which included increased viewership of TV show ‘Agriviews’ produced by Tannisha Scarlett. They all listened in awe as each 5
took turns sharing their experiences while providing each other the encouragement and assistance needed. Discussing the different activities executed under the WIA campaign, the team highlighted the importance for increased awareness of Agriculture among our young girls. As the ladies pledged their continued support to the youths of Jamaica, the team anticipated the 2019 “Youth in Agriculture” initiative. Nutramix will dedicate its 2019 calendar and various activations to celebrate Youth in Agriculture. Thank you to our Winning Women In Agriculture for making this initiative possible.

Nutramix Supports Youth in Agriculture What did you want to be when you were a child? A Lawyer or a Doctor? Perhaps an Engineer? Chances are you didn’t want to be a Farmer. You may have imagined a life of healing the sick, teaching a classroom of children or pursuing criminals. The idea of trading an afternoon with friends for every morning in the fields was a distant thought never explored. Then, this begs the question: who will feed the NATION? By the year 2050, it is estimated that the world will need to produce 3 times what it does now in order to feed itself. Now more than ever, we are charged with the responsibility to support those willing to plant, grow and reap in order to feed the nation. Whether it’s 30 layer chickens or 24 acres of Scotch Bonnet pepper, Nutramix salutes our youth who have bypassed the conventional careers paths, in favour of sustaining our Agricultural industry. This year, we will shine light on our Youth in Agriculture who have fed Jamaicans and neighbouring countries every day. 6

Imagination was the godfather of the beautiful concept Imagination Farms and we are blessed to be neighbours to such a facility. Visualising a complex to offer the best broiler poultry production and market hog finishing, this location gives rise to the rearing of over 380,000 broiler birds and 3,000 market hogs simultaneously and was so named the Hill Run livestock complex. The complex is 5 years old and is the most unique live production facility under the CB Group umbrella as it houses fattening floors from the Copperwood Farms division and broiler grow out units utilizing solar power as one of its main source of energy. The finishing floor is all tunnel ventilated which has significant advantages over the traditional natural ventilated houses; the ability to stock at higher densities and improve animal welfare. The poultry units are state of the art production units. They are solid sided houses - the most modern broiler production system currently available to the industry. This production unit is able to maintain consistent temperatures 8

suitable for the cost effective production of broilers. Our unique and ever dedicated team comprises of 10 Production Workers on the poultry wing and 2 Livestock Attendants on the pork wing. Strategically located on the St. Jago plains, the Hill Run livestock complex is parallel to the Imagination crops division and the innovative processing and rendering facility dubbed The Nest. This concept of production, processing and rendering in one location is revolution at its best.

With the close of 2018, 2019 brings a lot of changes for Imagination Farms. A key component of anything that CB Group does, is produce safe and quality food. So, it was only natural then that the IF team began preparations for attaining Global Gap Certification. And so be it, as the saying goes - hard work, pays. They received certification in November 2018. This was key in what came next - IF will be receiving a grant from the World Bank that will allow them to work closely with local farmers to help revitalize and sustain our agriculture sector, especially through our onions and Scotch Bonnet peppers. One of the main goals will be to reduce the importation of onions. To help achieve its goals, IF has a newly constructed Pack House and a new team member. Welcome Garthia Gowan - Quality Assurance Technician whose daily tasks are vital in maintaining the standard of expectations of the Global Gap Certification and CBÂ Group.

Feeding of the 5000 for the Festive Season The Feeding of the 5,000 Outreach Foundation is a non‑profit organization whose mission is to help to change the world by changing individual lives. The Feeding of the 5,000 Outreach Foundation was founded by Jordan Bennett six years ago in 2012 when he was only 17 years old and has now surpassed feeding over 20,000 persons solely through the donations of well-wishing persons and organizations. Throughout their six years of existence, they have also conducted other service projects such as back to school drives within various schools and communities as well as grocery bag drives in which they distribute grocery items within impoverished communities. They have also adopted the Randolph Lopez School of Hope. The Feeding of the 5,000 Outreach Foundation has received numerous accolades and has been featured by various news outlets for its accomplishments and was most recently awarded for its outstanding work through the Face of Change competition held by the Digicel Foundation.
This year, they continued their tradition of their annual Christmas feeding on December 23, 2018 in which CB outreach participated for the second consecutive year. 20 of our outreach team members joined the group at their headquarters to help in the preparation and packaging of the meals and lemon grass water to be given out. On this day, approximately 500 lunches were issued to homeless and less fortunate persons in the corporate area. Members from the Golden Age home in Vineyard Town also came and spent the day at their headquarters at 2b Grafton Road. In between food preparation and distribution, our team entertained the residents of the homes, striking up conversations bringing forth joy and laughter.

Jamaica’s Plastic Ban January 2019 marks the start of a new year as well as a new beginning for Jamaica’s environment. As of January 1st, Jamaica has banned three types of plastic items: straws, “scandal” bags, and Styrofoam. Here’s what you need to know about the ban, as well as a few life hacks on how you can make the best of these changes: Plastic Scandal Bags Plastic scandal bags litter our communities, block drains and suffocate marine animals when they wash out to sea. This is one reason why on January 1st Jamaica banned the sale and distribution of single-use shopping bags with dimensions 24”x24” or less. Certain companies can apply for exemptions on a case-by-case basis until January 2021, but so far no information has been given on how this ban will be enforced. Life Hack: Get a reusable bag that’s easy to carry around, so next time you go to the store you won’t even miss the plastic.
Styrofoam It is becoming more commonly known that Styrofoam food containers, especially when heated, may be linked to severe health issues. On January 1st Jamaica banned the importation of Styrofoam food and beverage containers, and will ban the local manufacture and distribution of it on January 1, 2020. Companies that import Styrofoam can apply for exemptions in 2019 as we transition to more environmentally friendly materials. Life Hack: Biodegradable food boxes are the new thing. Support local businesses using 20
biodegradable food containers that break down naturally in a matter of months when buried. Plastic Straws Approximately 500 million plastic straws are used every day in America alone. That’s enough to fill up 46,400 busses full of straws every year! To make matters worse, most of these are dumped into the sea, where they kill ocean life. On January 1st, Jamaica banned the importation and manufacture of plastic drinking straws, with juice box straws being banned by 2021. Wax lined and non-plastic straws are still permitted.
CB eZine
G o G r een
Life Hack: If you absolutely need a straw, try out the paper or bamboo straws that will be hitting the market very soon. Just as sturdy, but far less harmful.
Did you know: Jamaica is the third Caribbean country taking steps to ban plastic bags, after Antigua & Barbuda and Dominica recently did the same. We are joining over 20 countries and several major cities around the world also taking action against plastic waste.
