Welcome to another issue of the highly anticipated and talked about, CB Group Newsletter, Chat Bout.

Already we are into the 4th month of the “New Year”, and the start of the CB Group’s Financial Year. It is also the time when, as a company, we gather together for our annual Thanksgiving Service to express gratitude for the blessings of the past year and to pray for wisdom and guidance to face another. This year we look forward to an inspirational message from Meadowbrook United Church when we join them for praise and worship on April 7th.

Notwithstanding the challenges we anticipate this financial year, we are optimistic that we will end on a high note. With all regulatory permits in hand, and with minimal disruptions to our construction schedule; it is our expectation that the first bird will pass through our new processing plant by early second quarter, 2020. The journey to get to this point was by no means easy. Setbacks and disappointments were interwoven with the successes of many small battles. But as we say at the Nest, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start now to change the ending.”

As we will also celebrate Easter this month, I take the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Easter filled with love, joy and new aspirations. The resurrection of Christ gives us the opportunity to start anew, no matter our circumstances. Our faith inspires us to proclaim the message of Easter, Jesus Christ is risen. He is alive for evermore and will come again.

May God grant a peaceful and holy Easter to one and all!

Title Food Sponsor of Jamaica Rum Festival One of the goals is to make rum a premium brand, similar to cognac and scotch in the dark spirit market, with the Jamaican rum products getting more recognition over the world. Of course, as with any festival, the offering would be more than just rums. It would give attendees a total Jamaican experience including music, art and food.

The inaugural staging of the Jamaica Rum Festival took place over March 8-10 at Palm Drive, Hope Gardens.

The organizers included Title Sponsor J Wray & Nephew, along with Mystique Integrated.

So, when we heard of a new Jamaican Festival, we had no doubt that CB Foods had to lead the food experience as the Title Food Sponsor. We created our beautiful CB Foods Village, draped in red and white, with pepper lights sparking between our branded tents, which were operated by our hardworking vendors. We invited 2018 PAN Champion Lesma Huie, and 2017 3rd Runnner Up Jaime Martin to run the chicken pans. Copperwood Pork was grilled, smoked, roasted and fried by restaurants Dragon Palace, Murrays, and Tooksie Kay Catering, much to the patrons’ delight. Of course, there were Bad Dawg Sausages, Bonafide Burgers, Happy Foods soups and new chicken dishes with CB chicken bites and fried chicken tacos by Chilitos.

The food court was a favourite hang-out spot for patrons, in between visiting all the other booths in the Festival.

Various rum sponsors created their own rum experiences.

Workshops and seminars ran all day each day, led by rum masters like Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador, David Morrison, Senior Blender at Appleton Estate and Master Blender Joy Spence. There were also other exhibitors showcasing and selling in the areas of arts and crafts, pastries, teas and coffee.

Amidst consumers soothing their appetites, there were lots of fun and games.

Festivalgoers could be seen playing ball games at one corner, or being entertained with Jenga.

The entertainment package included headliners each day over the Saturday and Sunday festival days, which included Aidonia, Sevana, Dean Fraser and Friends, Wayne Marshall, Sanchez, Agent Sasco and Jesse Royal.

After a long two days, we must acknowledge and thank all the CB staff who gave up their weekend to volunteer.

Without you, our CB Food court would not have been the success it was!

Bad Dawg Jerk in

Retail On Saturday, March 16th Bad Dawg launched the new Jerk Flavor at its first home - Loshusan Supermarket as well as at Lee’s Supermarket on Red Hills Road. From 12noon – 6pm consumers enjoyed bite sized samples and a few even won a Golden Ticket to redeem a FREE Bad Dawg at the Cart outside.

Most consumers loved the new kick of spice, while a few remain loyal to the OG Bad Dawg.

85% of consumers who tasted it, purchased it. And just like that it flew of the shelves, but fear not, we have fully restocked.

With each sample a recipe card was shared and it highlighted the versatility of the product.

Nutradays Finale Source One Feeds All good things must come to an end, but even though Nutradays has ended, Nutramix and our customers, not unlike the animals we feed, will continue to grow!

On Wednesday March 27th, Nutradays held its final stop for Nutradays at Source One Feeds in Savanna-La-Mar and what a day it was! A better customer could not have been chosen for the final stop as Osmond “Ossie� Clarke who has been the top salesman in the island for a second year, and has also now achieved the status of top salesman in the Caribbean! This is in addition to being the top salesman in the recently developed South Eastern Region since its formation, and for many more years prior across Hanover, St. James and Westmoreland.

The beauty and importance of team work was also displayed as the Nutramix family celebrated the birthday of our own Laurice Griffiths from the Marketing team, and our CEO Mr. Haskins also made the journey to Westmoreland to Ossie started his career in banking, which helped him congratulate Ossie and his develop his current network of customers. Opportunity team! knocked and he left the bank 24 years ago to answer. He We wish Ossie and his team actually got help to start from Newport Mills’ very own Hans all the best as they continue Muller with his first load of 1200 bags of feed. His passion to grow with the BIG feed! for serving his customers is what drives him to continue on this path. He recalled locking up his store one day and observed a customer that had purchased feed sitting outside unable to get her feed to her farm and he loaded the feed into his only van at the time and delivered it for her. Today he has 5 trucks and delivery has become a service that he offers. He attributes his success to his wife and son who have worked with him at the location and their hard working team, without whom he could not have achieved the success he enjoys.

Caymanas Polo Club Tours Newport Mills Front Runner Feeding Badge The Caymanas Polo Club doesn’t horse around about their feed, or how it’s made, packaged and stored. That’s why our future Equestrians returned to Newport Mills on March 26th to tour the Newport Mills facility, and learn about the number 1 horse feed, Front Runner.

Ten young Polo Club members, accompanied by their parents were greeted by the hustle and bustle of the Newport Mills; from the process of creating the feed, packaging and labelling, to quality assurance processes. Newport Mills QA Supervisor, Tracey-Ann Taylor begun the tour with a short presentation about the Front Runner feed. After a quick Q&A session, the kids geared up in their dust masks and hair nets and made their way to the factory. Tracey took the group of 20 to the different sections of the factory, and explained how each section of the process is important to the overall production of Front Runner.

Heidi Lalor, Director of Caymanas Polo Club assisted in distributing Front Runner tokens to the young Equestrians, then presented them with the Feeding Badge having now completed the Newport Mills tour. After presenting Tracy-Ann and Laurice Griffiths with their tokens of appreciation, Heidi thanked the group for coming, and encouraged them to jump higher and work hard at perfecting their craft.

VL: (Export) I love helping my customers in any way I can. Even when it’s not my duty, I try my best to assist whenever they call on me.

VL: I don’t see another department or location I would switch to. I love NPM, everyone here is like a family. The physical environment is not the best but, we have a great team so we always weather the storm.

CB: How would your friends and family describe you?

VL: I am a very caring and loving person. I don’t allow things to upset me.

CB: Tell us 3 things about yourself that you’d love for your team to know VL: (1) I have a good personality. (2) I’m a very motivated person. (3) I love everyone, whatever class or race they may be.

Alysha Smith CB: How long have you been with the company?

AS: 4 years CB: What do you love about your role?

AS: I love working with different departments. However, the best part of my job is getting the opportunity to suit up in my PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) gears to visit the vessel.

CB: If you could switch locations or work in another department, where would you want to go and why?

AS: People & Culture or Sales. P&C, because I enjoy helping, listening and solving problems to make others’ lives better. Some persons may think that it’s “easy breezy” working in P&C but, it must be one of the most difficult roles within the company. Sales, because this has a lot to do with interacting with people (one of my strengths) and a good sales person should be focused on serving others and should be in the habit of giving, not getting.

CB: How would your friends and family describe you?

AS: Always smiling, very encouraging, loveable and apparently free spirited, honest but tactful and hilarious at times.

CB: Tell us 3 things about yourself that you’d love for your team to know AS: (1) I LOVE SPORTS but mainly basketball & football.

(2) I actually used to play basketball at the college and club level. (3) I’m a pretty good singer.

Schoolaz Rollout As the Arnold Road Outreach Team steps up their drive to enhance the lives of the Children at the Salvation Army Basic School, a “schoolaz” rollout day was held at the facility.

Staff was encouraged to wear their old school uniforms on Friday, March 29 , or simply just to represent their favourite teams participating at this year’s staging of the ISSA/ GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships.

There was no shortage of fun and laughter as persons came to work decked out in their “yunifaam”. And in patronage to high school days, there was ‘Tiggaz’, bag juice, gummy bears and gummy worms being given away as snacks at break time. But how could it be a ‘schoolaz’ day if there were no peanut brittle and sour sweetie????

But the greater part of the fun came at lunch time, when that PAN aroma filled the air and demand rocketed for Copperwood jerk pork done by Hopeton Black, and PAN chicken cooked by Dwayne Gordon-White and Garfield Wallace. That, accompanied with boiled corn and garlic butter and cheese, and a Juiceful box drink made for the perfect Friday lunch.

Finaly, we can’t forget the music. Thank you Mario from the Refridge Department, who kept us entertained along with Warren Pryce and Peter Minott at the mic.

Building Your Resume Through Volunteerism Getting a job today is vastly different from getting a job yesterday, and it will be even more different trying to get a job tomorrow. Times are changing and just like everything else in the world, the way we select talent for our organization also has to evolve.

In Talent Development we see HUNDREDS of resumes every month. Very quickly, resumes melt into each other, each document resembling the previous one we already saw.

The similarity sometimes is uncanny and we need trained eyes to identify the best.

So how can you make sure your resume remains a cut above the rest? We’re gonna share some tips over the next couple issues to keep you in the know.

Tip # 1 Include Volunteer Activity The act of volunteering shows a different side of you that, chances are, has nothing to do with the role being advertised. So why include it on your resume?

1. Doing something for no financial gain builds character 2. Participating in activities outside of work hours or tasks shows a good work/life balance 3. People who get involved in volunteer activities tend to be more productive in their actual assigned work duties, versus people who don’t ever volunteer in life 4. It’s an indicator of your networking capabilities and leadership potential 5. It gives insight on what matters to you as a person, which matters to great companies

We all have the ability and opportunity to cultivate gratitude.

Gratefulness assists with higher energy levels, keeps us more relaxed, makes us happier and healthier. Developing an “attitude of gratitude” is one of the simplest ways to improve your satisfaction with life.

Wisynco Congratulates CB Group for Winning Wisynco ECO Recycle

On March 25th Shelly- Ann Dunkley, Environment Communications Officer (ECO) at WISYNCO Group, paid a visit to our CB Group Office to officially congratulate us for winning their Wisynco ECO Recycling Corporate Challenge that took place last year.

The prize of $200,000 will be split and donated to two of CBG’s chosen beneficiaries - St Simons Primary in Lucea and Mustard Seed Communities’ Dare to Care Home for children living with HIV/ AIDS based in Spanish Town.

To each and every CBG staff member who purposely placed their plastic bottles in the recycle bins provided, we are able to donate to these causes because of you. And we thank you.

Roger Clarke Scholarship Recipient Luncheon CB Group supports the development not only of its staff, Jamaica and agriculture, but also the development of youth. It is for this reason that in 2016 the CB Group started the CB Group Roger Clarke Scholarship which is granted to deserving students of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE). Valued at $250,000 per student, the scholarship contributes towards tuition, clothing, and materials for students pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences.

On Saturday March 30, CB Group hosted a luncheon to celebrate the achievements of the first 3 winners of this illustrious scholarship and to give them a look at what CBG is doing and planning in the agricultural field. The guests of honour made the journey from CASE in Portland to Hill Run at The Nest, and were treated to a buffet style affair. There, they met our very own Mrs. Lori-Ann Lyn, Mr. Mark Haskins, Dr. Donald Amiel, Mr. Don McGlashan, Mr. Hans Muller, Mrs. Tina Hamilton and Dr. Patrick Craig. They also got to meet Mrs. Sonia Clarke, the widow of the Hon. Roger Clarke, the once Minister of Agriculture.

Each of the recipients shared sentiments about winning the scholarship, and how it is they plan to contribute to the agriculture industry in Jamaica.

Orlando Deer, the 2016 recipient of the award and an Animal Science major, expressed his gratitude to CB Group. His fellow Animal Science major, Christon Jones, proudly spoke of receiving his first calf from his father as a child, and how he decided he did not want to settle with just one so he focused on growing his livestock.

Christon is also featured on this year’s Nutramix calendar. The third recipient, Plant Science major Harrial Sheriffe spoke with admiration about plants and why he is pursuing his studies in the field.

The testimonies of the young men were inspirational to say the least and they gripped the attention of all those in attendance. They were then presented with tokens from CB Group and taken on an exciting tour of Imagination Farms by Brand Manager, Tina Hamilton to end an impactful day in the lives of the three young men.

Tips on Ways to Save Going Green Outside 1. Compost your food scraps. Composting can be done even if you live in an apartment and can save a ton of waste from going to the landfill. The newer ones don’t even smell, and worm bins are even more efficient!

2. Start an organic garden. If you’re new to gardening, start with something easy like lettuce or tomatoes and work up to more.

3. Plant some trees in your yard. By spending some money on trees, you not only shade your house so you can use less AC, but you also help to absorb CO2 in the air. You’ll increase your property value over time, too.

4. Install a rain barrel to collect rainwater from your downspouts. The water you save can then be used to water all your outdoor plants. If you live in a rainy area, consider getting several barrels and connecting them together because one rainstorm can yield hundreds of gallons in some regions.

5. Keep a low maintenance lawn. Do you have a small yard?

Why not try a push lawnmower and save on gas and pollution?

Better yet, replace that lawn with a vegetable garden or a xeriscape.

6. Install outdoor solar lights. Instead of lighting the path to your door using electricity, install some solar path lights that charge during the day and light up all night. You can even get a solar-powered motion detecting light for security!

7. Rotate your car tires and keep them filled. Keeping your tires inflated to the right PSI and rotated regularly saves fuel.

8. Avoid idling your car. Unless you are sitting in traffic, it actually uses more gas to idle your vehicle for a mere 30 seconds than it does to turn it off and restart it. On top of that, the huge amount of smog created by idling vehicles is a major contributor to hot, hazy summers and diseases like childhood asthma.

Smart Eggs Eggs in Purgatory

1. In a large skillet with a lid, heat oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic, anchovies and red-pepper flakes and cook until the garlic turns golden brown at the edges, about 1 min. Stir in tomatoes, salt, pepper and basil sprig, then turn heat to medium-low.

2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 2 large cloves garlic, 1 thinly sliced and 1 halved 3 anchovy fillets, minced P” of red pepper flakes 1 can diced tomatoes ½ tsp fine sea salt, more to taste ¼ tsp black pepper 1 large sprig fresh basil/rosemary 2 tbsp grated Parmesan 1 tbsp unsalted butter, more to taste Sliced crusty bread, for serving Small handful chopped basil or parsley, for garnish 250 m go f pe

2. Simmer until the tomatoes break down and thicken into a sauce, 20-25 mins. Stir in Parmesan, butter, salt and red pepper flakes to taste.

3. Using the back of a spoon, make 6 divots into the tomato sauce, then crack an egg into each divot. Cover the pan and let cook until the eggs are set, about 2 to 3 mins for runny yolks or longer based on your preference. (If the pan is not covered, the eggs won't cook through.)

4. Meanwhile, toast the bread then rub with the cut garlic clove, drizzle with oil, and sprinkle with salt.

5. To serve, sprinkle eggs with more Parmesan and chopped herbs, then spoon onto plates or into shallow bowls. Serve with garlic toast and pass pepper flakes at the table.

Bad Dawg Jerk Cajun Alfredo

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

1 pack of Bad Dawg Jerk Sausage, cut into ¼” slices

1. Prepare pasta according to package directions; drain and set aside.

8 ozs Bowtie pasta

2. Sauté sausage in a large skillet over medium– high heat for 5 minutes, turning occasionally.

2 cups heavy cream 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning ½ cup grated Parmesan or Cheddar cheese

3. Add cream and Cajun seasoning; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer gently for 3–4 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken.

4. Remove from heat, stir in Parmesan/ Cheddar cheese. Add pasta to sauce and toss.
