cbg celebrates jamaica day
Welcome
We have become a ‘Household Name’. The country now embraces our products, without hesitation, as a given on their shopping lists. We are happy for this but we must not forget how we got here and the awesome responsibility that this places on us. We have to be committed to quality and consistency on the one hand and availability and reliability of delivery on the other. People don’t eat retroactively so if our products are not where and when they want them, then neither are we. And they expect the product to handle and taste just as good the next time around. We have got to not only look good, but feel and taste good as well. They notice us as ‘CB People’ and call us that when they see us walking, riding on the buses, on other public transport, or even at a sporting event or party. When we wear those blouses and T shirts with the various company logos, they notice our behavior. They expect the people who produce those tasty and nutritious products to be clean and upright in their dress and to carry themselves with dignity along with their decorum. Remember ‘everybody sells’ in the companies
that lead the world. So says the Fortune 500 winners. As we are playing to be first we must resolve to match up with the best of them. So as we carry out our respective responsibilities to which we have been assigned in the company, let us not forget that we are to be part of a ‘well-oiled machine’, working in unison with each other. We are mutually dependent and all jobs are important to the overall working of the whole. Understand that the company appreciates and acknowledges your contribution and welcomes you as part of the family. As the company relies on you so can you rely on it helping you. That’s what friends are for. We should all be goal aligned, moving in the same direction – straight ahead and all the way up. Teamwork will get us there. The new ideas being adopted and the innovations being considered make this an exciting place to be. In all this we must never forget the contributions made by those who have come and gone. The memories of what they did should be forever etched in our minds. They taught us much and we will undertake to carry on the tradition so that our products and CB Group’s influence in our respective communities will make Jamaica a better place to live. We owe it to ourselves but most of all we owe it to our customers.
Dr. Donald Keith Amiel Head – Corporate Affairs

The first and only Jamaican eggs that are enriched with Omega‑3s through the healthy diets of our birds. Omega-3 fatty acids are incredibly important for brain development and keeping the heart healthy.
United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization 35th Regional Conference The 35th Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Conference was held in Jamaica over March 5-8 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. This was the first time that the conference was held in the Caribbean in 20 years and the second time in Jamaica in 50 years. Agriculture Ministers from all of FAO’s 33 member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean came together to set the Organization’s priorities for the next two years. Main issues addressed were the rise in hunger and obesity, climate change and rural poverty. It was noted that for the first time in decades, hunger is once again on the rise in Latin America and the Caribbean. CB Group was present through an Exhibitor Booth representing both our Foods and Feeds divisions and members from our Marketing, Export and the Nutramix Sales team to engage attendees. Countries shared public policies and industry insight aimed at increasing the pace of rural poverty reduction.
Valuable contacts were made with other members of CARICOM where we were able to share our #LiveBetter movement and all that it stands for. Very much in alignment with CB Group’s beliefs, are the FAO’s stance that Latin American and the Caribbean must produce more while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing sustainable practices to adapt production systems to new climatic conditions.

Smart Eggs does PriceSmart Roadshow What’s a ‘PriceSmart Roadshow’ you ask? Essentially it’s a presentation of products or services by a vendor (that will be us, CB Foods) to the PriceSmart buying teams. It’s what makes PriceSmart give us the thumbs up or thumbs down on whether they’ll carry our new products.
You can look forward to Smart Eggs in PriceSmart permanently very soon! Why Smart Eggs? It’s RICH in Omega 3! Which is great for brain development and keeping your heart healthy.
So, of course, Smart Eggs with its 18 pack, brought lots of eggscitement to the aisles of PriceSmart in February for 5 days. Kevin Smith who does lots of live cooking demos for CB Foods, cooked up different and delicious egg recipes each day. Customers couldn’t get enough. Needless to say, the Smart Egg’s 18 packs flew off the shelves. 6

The Pony Club
Thirty children and parents from The Pony Club were invited by Front Runner for an exclusive tour of the Caribbean’s largest feed mill - Newport Mills. This was the first time children were allowed to tour the facility, and they surely learned a lot from the presentations led by TraceyAnn Noyan, Ferris Harriott and Gilmore Simpson. Our young guests were shown how the feeds were monitored in the computer room, made in the mills, packaged in the warehouse and tested in the labs. The evening concluded with an interactive Q&A session along with some light refreshments. All children received a token from Front Runner, as well as their official Pony Club badges. around the brand in 30 days — front runner

Front Runner at the Races
As the premier horse feed locally, Front Runner, better known as the “yellow bag feed” continues to show its commitment to the horse racing community through its race day sponsorships at Caymanas Park, and by extension its support to various stakeholders. On February 20, 2018, Front Runner kicked things into gear when it hosted the launch for its six-race 2018 sponsorship at the CB Group head office, just in time for the first race day of 2018, which took place a few days later on the 24th. Some of the races being sponsored for 2018 include The Sir Howard Stakes, Hotline Stakes, Thornbird Stakes, Prince Consort Stakes, Front Runner Dash and Front Runner Sprint. Front Runner has also improved its commitment to horse racing this year. For instance, the brand is hosting workshops for grooms, owners and trainers in conjunction with Supreme Ventures to improve best practices. We’ve also opted to sponsor the annual licensing fees for the winning in grooms from the Sir Howard Stakes and Hotline Stakes. 8

Bringing Live Better to Life #LiveBetter Immersion Tour
In an effort to truly live a better life as our new CB Foods campaign suggests, the marketing team set out on a journey to explore what it really means to #livebetter and we’d like to share what we learnt with you. our community — bringing life to live better – immersion tour

Kristi: Composting is a very important part of any organic growth operation. It can be made from almost any natural waste, and used as a natural fertilizer. Learn more at PlantJamaca
DAY 1 We started the day with Boot Camp session at Juliet Cuthbert’s Fitness Studio to get our bodies rejuvenated and our minds active.
For lunch we had delicious salmon, curry chicken, grilled fish, sweet potatoes mashed with raisins, tons of fresh healthy greens and veges and vinaigrettes. Whoever said eating healthily was boring?
Tina: Diet and exercise are such an important part of keeping our bodies working properly and helps us stay younger longer. Then we met with founder of Plant JA, Andrew Bruce. He was working on a project that involved turning a normal backyard into an organic home farm where he educated us on various fruit trees, herbs and fresh produce, the importance of preserving our environment, edible horticulture and natural water harvesting systems. Khalil: Backyard farming is far easier and less expensive than we think. Using very simple but effective techniques can make this possible. Tina: Edible landscapes are a great way to help people appreciate where their food comes from and how to personally get involved. With our soil type and access to year-round sunshine, no one especially in Jamaica should ever go hungry.
14
DAY 2 Bright and early we headed to the Marine Park at Port Royal where the marine tour took us on the waters of Kingston Harbour, the 7th largest natural harbour in the world. Shaunte: We saw first-hand how our actions on land affect the sea (pollution of the gullies especially) and our actions on the sea (overfishing, destruction of the coral reefs) affect how we live on land. All the pollution from Kingston had drifted over to the mangroves threatening their livelihood.
our community — bringing life to live better – immersion tour
Mangroves are home to a large variety of crab, fish and other species that form an essential source of food; they protect shorelines from damaging storm and hurricane winds, waves, and floods; and prevent erosion by stabilizing sediments with their tangled root system. Kristi: We need to be more cognizant of the impact we have on our environment and survival. We are unnecessarily destroying the very ecosystems that exist to keep us alive, such as the mangroves, reefs and so on. We all need to be more aware, and to be held accountable for our hand in the current state of eco-destruction.
Did you know? Plastic bottles are the LARGEST litter pollutant in Jamaica (We learned that at JET!) Tip: Use your Live Better Reusable Water bottles or Thermoses. Less plastic water bottles = Better carbon footprint. To end the day we paid a visit to JET Headquaters (Jamaica Environmental Trust) where President Suzanne Stanely took time to share their story. Their projects are broken into 3 categories: environmental education, law and advocacy and conservation. Learn more at www.jamentrust.org.
Did you know? ANYONE can drop off their plastic bottles, free of charge, to JET where they send the bottles to be recycled. Tina: The realization of the amount of plastics that end up in landfills was astounding. We’ve made an effort in my own house to drastically cut down on the amount of plastic containers we purchase from the supermarket. We have begun recycling what we do take in. It has even inspired our neighbours to do the same. Now our house has become the drop off for all the plastic bottles in our complex. We don’t mind taking these giant bags of plastic bottles to JET weekly. At least we know they won’t end up in the dump. Kristi’s: (Tip) Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica! Get involved! Follow the JET SM pages, get involved with the movement, spread the word and #livebetter. Keep Jamaica clean.
Khalil: Industrial activity and practices such as deforestation, slash and burn and pollution all play a part in the destruction of the earth’s natural support systems. Shaunte: We got to see that we can’t save the ocean without first tackling the ill effects of industrialization, such as oil drilling and carbon dioxide emissions, on land.
DAY 4 We created vision boards with Nicole McClaren where we put pictures to paper that depicted all our goals for the next year, both personally and professionally. Seeing is believing and oftentimes the law of attraction works. Tina: This is so awesome to help channel and focus our minds on personal and professional goals with given timelines. It is so powerful that it is almost like writing your future into existence. And that concluded our #LiveBetter Tour. Since then, Kristi implemented a PLASTICS ONLY garbage system at Group Office. ALL plastic bottles will be sent to JET to be recycled.
DAY 3 We had a Movie (Documentary) Date over popcorn to watch “Revolution” by acclaimed environmental filmmaker Rob Stewart which is about understanding what we have done to the planet and what we can do (as a species) to change the world.
How about you implement this at your facility? In your community? Think of all the ways YOU can help. The small things make a difference, one person makes a difference!

Level UP Since 2016, we began shaping and executing our Training and Development plans to upskill and engage our teams throughout the Group. Our main focus so far has been in the area of Leadership. We have immersed our Management team in topics which included an overview of new Recruitment practices, Training & Development approaches, Succession Planning and Performance Reviews ahead. In addition to that, last October at the Leadership Retreat, we explored personal and reflective questions about relationships, retirement planning, heart health and eating well - all inspired by our Live Better Campaign. By December 2017, we felt it was time to introduce Level UP. Level UP is the first ever CB Group leadership trainee programme designed to create and nurture our next generation management pool. The purpose of the initiative is to • Broaden and strengthen our leadership capabilities • Retain the best talent while planning for long term company success • Provide growth opportunities for our young and enthusiastic talent The Level UP candidates were recommended by the Leadership Team and endorsed by a Selection Committee. The front runners for the programme were chosen based on demonstrated professionalism, leadership potential, team commitment and dedication to the Group core values. The programme features 3 progressive levels which prepares our participants for future advanced positions. This experience is designed to enhance key leadership competencies which include self-awareness, decisiveness, persuasiveness, diplomacy, complex problem-solving and supportiveness. The Level UP group will be challenged with high energy learning experiences that include rotational assignments, engaging guest speakers, personal sessions with our Programme Director, one-on-one professional coaching, expert mentorship with a CBG Manager and book club meet ups .

Level Up Meet our Leadership Potentials Last December, Matthew Lyn (COO) Stephanie Campbell (Group Manager, People & Culture) and Daren Allwood (Programme Director, Level UP) had the pleasure of inviting the Level UP group for a celebratory luncheon at Cellar 8 in Kingston. The 34 young, eager and slightly intimated guests enjoyed a sumptuous Indian inspired meal served with wine and sangria. In between the casual dining experience, they were reminded of the company’s values and Focus goals by Matthew. The information session closed with Stephanie’s outline of the Level UP programme and an introduction to Daren as the Programme Director. This proud moment ended with a toast and rounds of applause in the room. Congratulations to everyone on our Level UP foundation group!

Go Green with Brian Royes
Living #LiveBetter At the core of CB’s value system is a heart that beats for Jamaica; a love for the environment runs in our veins. We are a country rich in natural resources, blessed with fertile soil, lush vegetation, clean air, crystal waters and a sunny, tropical climate. But our environment is more than just beautiful; it is essential to life itself. Our environment cleans the air, regulates temperature, rainfall and climate, provides clean 20

water and supports the livelihoods of thousands through farming, fishing and tourism. But even though our environment is beautiful and vital for life, we are facing a serious problem: our environment is rapidly being polluted and destroyed – by us. Unsightly litter and solid waste contaminates our streets and gullies, harbouring disease and increasing the risk of flooding. When this
pollution eventually reaches the sea, it meets a coastline that is also polluted by sewage, and industrial wastes, crippling the fishing and tourism sectors we readily depend on. All the while, power stations, vehicle engines, and dumpster fires pollute our atmosphere, worsening respiratory problems and contributing to global warming. Yes, we need the environment. But it is clear that the environment
needs us too, now more than ever. It needs us to take action: to slam the brakes on this pattern of degradation, and prevent it from continuing to harm our lives and the lives of our children. CB knows this, which is why we have pledged to Live Better and established ourselves as a firm believer in environmental sustainability: the conservation of today’s resources in order to meet the needs of tomorrow. There are several simple steps we can take to Live Better for the environment. One such change is to say no to plastics as much as possible, and recycle the plastic bottles we may still use. Have you ever considered the fact that because plastics don’t naturally break down in the environment, every plastic bottle you have ever used is still in existence today, either as recycled material, or as junk in landfills, gullies, rivers or the sea? Recycling Partners of Jamaica estimates that in Jamaica, we use 600 million PET plastic bottles every year. We can reduce the number of plastics that get into the environment by placing plastic bottles in CB recycling bins to be sent for recycling. This is but one way amongst several others, (e.g. buying local produce, carpooling to work, conserving electricity, reusing shopping bags) that we can each Live Better in our personal lives. No one person can change a culture, but together we can create the momentum needed to shape
a better tomorrow. Imagine a Jamaica where corporate agencies and the people that comprise them champion environmentalism and inspire others to live better. This vision is achievable, and must become a reality if our children and their children are to enjoy this beautiful land we love for much longer.
Carpool to work. Conserve electricity.
Say no to plastics as much as possible. our community — go green

CBG Celebrates Jamaica Day F ebruary
23
2018
Jamaica Day, celebrated annually, is designed to contribute to citizen education, enhance the appreciation for Jamaica’s rich heritage and culture, and build a positive identity in students. All themes for Jamaica Day over the years begin with 2 words – ‘Celebrating Jamaica’. This year’s theme wass ‘Celebrating Jamaica: Nurturing our Cultural and Natural Heritage’. There were 6 educational regions across the island, with one school selected to lead the Jamaica Day charge in the respective region. Students received ‘culture passports’ allowing them access to heritage sites across the country. For 2018, it was Munro College in St. Elizabeth that was the featured school to receive national attention. The boys at Munroe displayed their innovations depicting the theme, and, through partnerships with several organizations, will showcase these to Jamaica. CBG celebrates… Of course, the culture at CB Group is one that is proud of our Jamaican culture and heritage. Because we love our country, and we also love our bellies, staff at CB Group took part in celebrating this year’s theme with staff decked out in their black, green and gold colours, and with various locations having lunch and ‘potluck’ with traditional Jamaican dishes. cbg celebrates jamaica day
