Watermen’s Appreciation Day
I
f your summer has included a crab feast or a freshly caught rockfish dinner, you might want to thank a waterman. On August 11, you can do just that at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s annual Watermen’s Appreciation Day! Local watermen will compete in the Watermen’s Rodeo—a loud, raucous docking contest in which watermen will whip their boats around pilings faster than you can imagine, docking their boats to wild cheers from the crowd. On land, watermen will be serving festival guests steamed crabs, corn on the cob, and cold
beer, and there will be live music playing by Bird Dog and the Road Kings. Families can enjoy games and activities throughout the day, and in the afternoon take part in a rowboat competition. There will also be boat rides, and a silent auction. The event benefits the Talbot Watermen Association and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Tickets are $18 for adults, $8 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for kids 5 and under. Tickets include admission to all events for the day and all CBMM exhibitions and structures. Get all the details at cbmm.org.
