9 p.m. Selihot Service (Service of Forgiveness)

Selihot is a unique and moving late night “Service of Forgiveness that starts the High Holy Day season. It is a spiritual and evocative evening that challenges us to reflect upon our past deeds and experiences and encourages us to consider personal and religious goals for future growth and change. Before our Selihot Service begins, the Torah Scrolls in the ark are publicly changed into their white High Holy Day covers which symbolize the freshness and purity of the coming New Year. During the service, a string quartet will accompany Hazzan Perlman and the Chizuk Amuno Choir in celebration of the rich and mysterious music that helps us welcome the High Holy Days. The evening concludes with the familiar sounding of the Shofar.

Annual Appeal Campaign

Each year, as the High Holy Days approach, we take time to count our blessings, review the year that is coming to a close, and join in prayer with our community for a happy, healthy, and prosperous year ahead. That is what we should be doing on our sacred space. And so, once again, we will not be asking you for your annual appeal gift to our synagogue from the pulpit during our prayers. We hope, instead, we will be able to just say “thank you,” for the generous response to our campaign requests which you will receive this summer. We are truly blessed with the extraordinary generosity of so many of our members in response to our annual appeal, and, for this support without which we simply could not continue, we are extremely grateful. This year, as we rebuild and renew our vision, and add new leadership to our synagogue community, I hope we can count on each and every one of you! Every single gift matters! Every single member of Chizuk Amuno, every parent or grandparent of a child in one of our schools, every single one of us matters, and every single dollar we contribute makes a difference! Please join us in our goal to reach 100% participation!
