From The Headmaster Satan came before God and accused the Jews of uttering meaningless prayers. The angel suggested to God that the Almighty take all the prayers of the Jews and dump them into a machine and grind them out. “When You do that,” said Satan, “you will see what their prayers really consist of.” God complied and ground all the Jews’ prayers from all over the world into a giant machine. Out of the machine came the words: “money, money, money.” “See,” said Satan, with a big smile on his face. “I was right!” A kind angel then approached God and suggested that the Almighty put the prayers through the same machine a second time, asking for more detailed clarification. God agreed and this time the prayers came out in these words: “Money for schools, money for synagogues, money for the poor and oppressed, money for hospitals, money for medical research, money for arts and culture, money for university endowment funds, money for Israel, money for a just society, etc. etc. etc.” The kind angel sat quietly, and rested his case. Don’t you just love stories with happy endings? It was the prayer of this headmaster, and of hundreds of other supporters of KSDS, that – in this very difficult economic environment – our fundraising efforts for 2009-2010 would indeed yield a happy ending. And because of your support, KSDS had a truly stellar year! Through the generosity of parents, grandparents, alumni and alumni parents, faculty and friends, KSDS raised over $212,000. This commitment to our students allows for continued excellence and achievement that is the hallmark of a KSDS education. I want to thank everyone who played a role in our remarkable success.
The KSDS Annual Campaign–our most important ongoing development effort succeeded, thanks in large measure to our outstanding annual campaign committee, chaired by Jane Sopher. We are most grateful to the Malis family whose threeyear challenge grant led to many new and increased gifts.

Like all other independent schools, demand for financial aid increased dramatically this year. The Golf and Tennis Classic is a major source of annual scholarship monies, and the school is thankful to all those who supported this event. The success of the Classic would not have been possible without the dedication and optimism of Gary Attman.

I would also like to recognize the exceptional development team, led by chair Janine Frier, whose efforts moved KSDS forward in leaps and bounds this year. Randy Melnick and Becky Schwartz chaired our first annual Todot event, honoring Barbara Cohen and Erika Schon, and raised significant new dollars for our scholarship fund. We also thank our past KSDS Board Chair Robert Brown and Sam Moskowitz, our new Board Chair. It’s hard to imagine what KSDS would be like without the hard work and dedication of the many people who support our fundraising efforts. And how blessed we are to have such an outstanding development team! Our most sincere appreciation to Sarah Fried and Alison Wielechowski, our development professionals, to Laurel Freedman, who oversees development efforts for the entire Chizuk Amuno community, and to Meg Gillespie and Marci Scher, our development assistants. 9th Annual KSDS Golf and Tennis Classic The KSDS 9th Annual Golf and Tennis Classic, held at Chestnut Ridge Country Club on Monday, June 7 was a tremendous success! With picture perfect weather, representatives from local and national businesses, alumni, parents, and friends stepped out on the green and onto the court to raise over $60,000, which will be dedicated to financial assistance.

Todot was our inaugural spring event in support of tuition assistance. Over 600 people gathered together on Sunday, May 2, 2010 to honor Barbara Cohen and Erika and Lew Schon. On behalf of Krieger Schechter Day School, we would like to thank our generous donors who helped us raise $125,000 in support of the KSDS Scholarship Fund. These dollars have had a significant impact on our KSDS families. Over the past few years there has been an increase in the number of families in need of tuition assistance. The community’s generosity enabled more students to receive the quality education that KSDS provides.
