ha odesh It’s October and …
M
y sukkah is dismantled and put away for another year. The honey dish is clean and back on display in the curio cabinet. The sermons are filed away. The freezer is emptied of brisket and chicken soup. The novelty is that all of those things have happened before October 1. As hard as it is to believe, the holidays have come and gone already and I’m sorry that it won’t be for another 76 years that they will arrive this early in the year. I loved early holidays, but I think I am in the minority when it comes to that. Now the fall stretches out before us with its glorious colors and opportunities for new beginnings. Why should your children or grandchildren be the only ones to start a new school year? This is the perfect time to join a class: learn with one of our clergy, take Melton or Foundations, the new Melton class for school age parents, attend a Lunch and Learn downtown, study Hebrew, or join the Adult Bat Mitzvah class. One of my beloved adult learners sometimes asks me at the end of class, “Is it supposed to be this much fun?” Absolutely. Come join the fun. B’Shalom,
Debi Wechsler, Rabbi

Upon Entering the New Year
It’s hard to believe that the High Holy Days are over and it is only the beginning of October. Thanks to all of you who joined us for a meaningful holiday season. As Chair of this year’s Annual Campaign, I also wanted to thank the over 300 families who chose to make contributions to this year’s efforts. As members, I recognize that you make a substantial financial commitment when joining Chizuk Amuno. However, membership and tuitions alone do not cover the full cost of running our synagogue and schools; annual campaign dollars enable us to involve our members, provide scholarships to our schools, enhance synagogue programs, support our clergy, and take care of our facility beyond what the budget can support alone. Chizuk Amuno has played an important role in the life of my family. Dixie and I, along with our sons Marc and Eric, have spent countless hours in classes, volunteering for school and community programs, and in holiday and Shabbat celebrations. We are grateful for the value and meaning it brings to our lives. I hope that you find an opportunity in the coming months to join us in all that Chizuk Amuno has to offer.
