New Airport Plan
MELBOURNE could get a new major commercial passenger airport on the southeast fringe under a state government blueprint for the city’s development in coming decades. The airport would be a hub for national domestic flights - hosting 300-seater passenger planes with potential for it to expand to international flights as a second stage. It would form a third major airport, alongside Tullamarine and Avalon, for Victoria.
A new domestic airport at Tooradin is one option, while business groups have previously named Tyabb and South Gippsland as possible sites. Planning Minister Matthew Guy said that an airport in the Western Port area would make sense given Melbourne’s crosstown traffic problems. The new metro planning strategy will replace Labor’s controversial Melbourne 2030 plan, which failed to meet housing targets for the city’s rapidly growing
Nauru’s $1000 a month visa charge for asylum sekeers
population - expected to reach up to 6.4 million by 2050. The discussion paper, prepared by a ministerial advisory committee led by planning expert Prof Roz Hansen, said parts of Melbourne’s middle suburbs were ripe for greater housing and economic development. Other discussion paper ideas include building over the rail yards east of Federation Square, and commuter ferry services on the Yarra and Port Phillip Bay.
NAURU is set to charge $1000 per month on visas for asylum seekers the Australian government sends there. The island nation has introduced a new visa category, which it calls an Australian regional processing visa, that costs $3000 for three months, ABC radio reports. There is a $100 special purpose visa fee for people who arrive
on Nauru, independently Australia, to seek asylum.

has been sought from the Department of Immigration.
The Australian government has sent 381 asylum seekers to Nauru for processing so far, but the detention centre can hold up to 1500.
A department of immigration spokesman told AAP that it was reasonable for people transferred to Nauru to hold valid visas. He said the cost would not be borne by individuals. The federal government is still in discussions with Nauru on a range of issues, the spokesman said.
The visas could net the Nauru government $90 million over five years, if the detention centre is at capacity.?Comment
by Another cracker fishing report full of snapper! It is really game on now, and if you check the water temperature graph later in the report, we have some very nice warm currents entering the bay bringing the bay temperature up to perfect snapper season temps.
WESTERNPORT:
RHYLL: The Rhyll area has also been producing some nice gummy sharks this week along with snapper. Anglers Chris and Steve fished on Saturday just out from Rhyll and managed some nice snapper along with this cracking gummy. MIDDLE SPIT: Team Jacmac has been at it again this week. Instead of targeting snapper, they opted for something different and went in search of a feed of whiting. Their end result was a nice catch of whiting to 46cm using pipi and mussel during the run out tide. NORTH ARM: Robin Gray from Western Port and Peninsula fishing charters has been putting his clients onto some great fishing in the North Arm this week. Robin says that the snapper have really come on in a big way and they are responding well to pilchard and squid baits. Fishing the run out tide on Wednesday, one of his clients managed a cracking snapper. HASTINGS: Robbie Boer headed out with his dad last Saturday in search of a snapper for his dad considering he had never caught one before. Fishing out from Hastings in 16 meters of water, Robbie’s dad Arie, managed a solid red on a pilchard. To say he was excited us an understatement, he was over the moon.
PORT PHILLIP BAY:
SORRENTO: Some good calamari and garfish are still on offer in the Sorrento area for those willing to go looking. Anglers fishing from the Sorrento pier early in the mornings during a run in tide have been doing very well. Garfish have been plentiful and are best caught using a float rig setup. Berley is essential. Calamari have also been caught on the high tide with size 2.5 jigs being the most favored. Red foil bellies have been producing some nice calamari of late. MORNINGTON: Customer Ryan had a ball fishing this week out from Mornington. Ryan managed this 3 kilo snapper just after sunrise in the 18-20 meter area. SEAFORD: Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot fishing charters has also been having good success in the Seaford area. Simon has been working the 14 to 17 meter areas to find snapper in good numbers. This week Simon has found a good class of fish to put his clients onto. Silver whiting and pilchards have been the most productive baits. CARRUM: It’s certainly all about snapper at the moment and with the hundreds of reports filtering though from Carrum, there is no doubting that they are on like donkey Kong. This week has been quite productive despite the wind on some occasions but that hasn’t deterred anglers from heading out to get into the action. One the charter boat front, the boys have all been doing considerably well. Matt Cini from Reel Time Charters has been catching his bag on each charter with ease. Matt has had trips running all week but his latest success was on Wednesday. Matt conducted three charters bagging out on all three. His clients were all very pleased with the results. Matt has been fishing from Seaford through to Chelsea and getting good results. Matt said that knowing how to read your sounder is the key to finding fish at this time of year.

Julia Gillard reveals plan to ‘Asianise’ Australia
JULIA Gillard has outlined an ambitious plan to “Asianise” the Australian economy and education system to tap into the vast middle-class markets that will emerge in China, India and Indonesia in the next two decades. The vision, much of which is already underway, includes
plans to free up tourist and business travel within the region, to lift Australia’s taxfree threshold “to at least $21,000”, to scrap inefficient state taxes such as stamp duty and to have Australian schools engage with at least one Asian school to promote language learning. It would also provide
Australian students with continuous training in Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian or Japanese throughout their schooling. As part of the cultural refocusing, the ABC and SBS would be asked to provide more extensive coverage of the region “in all aspects of their content and programming, with
special attention to news and information coverage”. Unveiling her long-awaited Asian Century white paper in Sydney, the Prime Minister declared “history asks great nations great questions Australia is no exception”. She said the world was moving eastward to Australia’s

Following distribution of preferences, the Lord Mayor won with 52.42 per cent of the vote, followed by Dr Parkes on 25.07 per cent and Mr Singer with 22.51 per cent. Cr Doyle has promised a city makeover, including a $100 millionplus redevelopment of Queen Victoria Market and plans for a transport museum at a revitalised Docklands. He also plans to transform the “shabby” city gateway, at the corner of Elizabeth and Flinders streets. Cr Doyle said he was honoured to be re-elected on the back of a primary vote more than double the vote of his nearest
advantage and our location and high living standards would provide a valuable edge.” For the first time in our history, Asia is not a threat to our highskill high-wage road. It is a reason to stay on it, “ she said.Accordingly, the paper lays down long-term targets designed

More Australian women over the age of 40 are having babies than ever before, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The ABS’ Births, Australia, 2011 publication shows that in 2011 a record 12,800 babies were born to women over 40, up from 7,100 in 2001. Director of ABS Demography Bjorn Jarvis said the fertility rate for mothers in the 40–44 year old age group has increased to 15.1 babies per 1000 women in 2011 from 9.2 in 2001. “We have also seen the total number of births in Australia pass the 300,000 mark for the first-time,” Mr Jarvis said. “The total fertility rate in Australia for 2011 was 1.88 babies per woman; this is higher than the record low of 1.73 in 2001 but a decline from the recent peak of 1.96 in 2008.” “Tasmania had the highest fertility rate at 2.17 babies per woman, while Victoria had the lowest at 1.75. “The median age of all mothers was 30.6 years in 2011, whereas the median age of all fathers was 33 years,’ Mr Jarvis added.

Anna Kannava Tribute & Book Launch (18+)
Αφιέρωμα στην Άννα Kαννάβα « Suddenly I had fallen in love and this time I knew it was for real. I had discovered filmmaking. » Anna Kannava Anna Kannava was born in Cyprus and migrated to Melbourne in 1974 at the age of 15 with her mother and two brothers. She studied drama, art, photography, film and screenwriting; and worked as an animator, actor, writer and director. Despite being hampered for most of her adult life by a debilitating condition, scleroderma, Anna completed a number of highly personal and poetic films. As well as the fictional features Dreams for Life (2004) and Kissing Paris (2008), her filmography includes the acclaimed documentaries Ten Years After, Ten Years Older (34mins, 1986) about her return to Cyprus; and The Butler (58mins, 1997) focusing on her family, especially her brother,
Nino. These two films come together in a rare screening at the Greek Film Festival, along with Kannava you Can’av’er (1min, 1980). After a ten-month fight against cancer, Anna died on 5th May 2011 at the age of 51. As she battled through physical limitations, she never stopped dreaming and planning her next project. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. “Anna is a very individual and sweet filmmaker, her work is infused with love and grace.”
Plan to revamp Athens tourism to boost visitor numbers
Book Launch The Greek Film Festival 2012 is proud to celebrate the life of Anna Kannava with the launch of her book, Stefanos of Limassol – a parable on belonging, love and loss, amidst a distant glimpse of hope for the reunification of Cyprus. This book has been released posthumously in honour of Anna’s unwavering commitment to life and creativity. The book will be launched prior to the film session and will be available to purchase at the cinema. Η Άννα Καννάβα γεννήθηκε στην Κύπρο και απεβίωσε το 2011 και μετανάστευσε στην Μελβούρνη το 1974. Two US business groups are promoting a private tourism investment in Athens to the tune of 1.46 billion euros – which could reach up to 4.38 billion when the business plan is fully developed – aimed at attracting more visitors to the Greek capital and staying for more days than they tend to now. Promoting the project are investment consultancy Bondholder Communications Group (BondCom) and museum design firm Ralph Appelbaum Associates. The proposed investment consists of a program for enriching the tourism product of the broader Athens area
through installations, digital services and theme parks (real and digital), in an effort to upgrade the capital to a top cultural and tourism destination. Plans include opening a Democracy Museum, a museum at Lavrio in southeastern Attica, a cultural theme park at Marathon, northeastern Attica, the development of the area of Plato’s Academy to the west of the city center, and upgrading visits to the Acropolis. This form of tourism is increasingly popular around the world, according to data compiled by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which
estimates that it can contribute significantly to the regional development of many areas in the world. The companies behind this ambitious project plan to get Greek Americans on board, drawing funds from them in the same bond-issuing model through which Israel funded the creation of its economy from 1951. The plan could add an estimated 960 million euros per year to the country’s gross domestic product, according to a study conducted for the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).
Greek Government treading fine line Top-ranking officials close to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras continued their efforts to overcome the objections of the junior partner in the governing coalition to labor reforms proposed by the troika as eurozone finance ministry officials convened in Brussels to discuss Greece. Greece’s envoy to Brussels, Panos Tsakloglou, arrived in the Belgian capital without a deal to present his peers with as a political rift remained unresolved in Athens. Back at home, Samaras aides and key ministers ratcheted up their efforts to win round officials from Democratic Left, which continues to object to proposed changes to labor laws and the abolition of social benefits for families. Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis visited the moderate leftist party’s headquarters to discuss the issue but failed to extract concessions. Meanwhile Samaras and Democratic Left chief Fotis Kouvelis reportedly spoke several times by telephone. Some lawmakers in socialist PASOK also harbor objections which are expected to be discussed in a session of the party’s parliamentary group on Tuesday. Samaras’s aim had been to win round Democratic Left so that Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras could present his eurozone counterparts on Wednesday with a deal on a 13.5-billion-euro austerity package and on a package of structural reforms that include the controversial labor laws. Meanwhile time is running out as Greece awaits the approval of its austerity plan in order to clinch much-needed rescue funding. The head of the group representing the eurozone’s finance ministers, Jean-Claude Juncker, said that a “physical” meeting will probably be held on November 8 to discuss Greece, following today’s scheduled Eurogroup by teleconference, and ahead of a regularly scheduled November 12 meeting.

Anti-racism police unit heralded
GREEK NEWS Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias heralded the creation of a new unit within the Greek police force that would focus on tackling racist violence following a spike in attacks on immigrants by members and supporters of far-right groups. The new squad will start with offices in Athens and Thessaloniki before being extended to other parts of the country, Dendias told a press conference, noting that a draft presidential decree also foresees the establishment of a telephone hotline where witnesses or victims of racist attacks can lodge complaints. “The country does not lack a legal arsenal when it comes to racist violence,” Dendias said. Questioned about reports of widespread support within the police force for the ultra-right Golden Dawn party, Dendias said that senior officers are not necessarily aware of their subordinates’ political leanings but that “in deviant cases we will show no leniency.” As regards a legal suit his ministry was planning to bring against the Guardian over the British newspaper’s publication of allegations regarding the torture of detainees by Greek police officers, Dendias said the matter was being handled by the State Legal Council. In a related development, the management of state television channel Net decided to suspend the two presenters of a morning news program, Costas Arvanitis and Marilena Katsimi, after they suggested that a medical examiner’s report vindicated the allegations of detainees who said they had been tortured by police and that Dendias would be unable to contest these claims successfully in court. A spokesman for the Public Order Ministry countered that the medical reports “reveal no evidence whatsoever of burns on the bodies of detainees.”
Greece seen winning fight Greece's Aegean Airlines on money laundering wins the award for Best Regional Airline in Europe
Greece is no longer seen as a black sheep with regard to the fight against money laundering and graft, according to official data released by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The head responsible
of a watchdog for investigating
financial crimes said Monday. Responding to a question in Parliament, Panayiotis Nikoloudis, who is vice prosecutor general of the Greek Supreme Court and president of the National Agency for Combating Money Laundering, said that according to official
data due for release later this year, Greece is a “role model” in the fight against money laundering. Nikoloudis said his agency successfully investigated 162 cases in 2011 and seized 223,982,146 euros in illegal money.
Skytrax, one of the largest airline and airport review and ranking sites in the world, presented in the summer the prestigious World Airline Awards for 2012, with Aegean Airlines winning the award for Best Regional Airline in Europe.
It is the third time that the company receives this distinction, the previous being in 2009 and in 2011. Aegean Airlines was also included in the Best Five Airlines in Europe, preceded by Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines, and
followed by British Airways. The awards are based on studies analysing customer satisfaction concerning every aspect of their "passenger experience", from seat comfort and cleanliness to staff service and catering.

Sth Melbourne F.C. Appearing in court in November… We have received a great deal of phone calls lately expressing severe worries as to the future of the historic Club that used to be the Standard bearer of Greek soccer in Victoria: S. M. Hellas.
According to our callers, the Club is faced financial problems at present, since: a. So far the contracts re the continuation of the use of lakeside Oval by the Club have not, as yet, been signed, by the State government some say that this is due to the economic situation the club is in at the moment. b. As we know a number of businessmen, assisted S. M. Hellas with loans of almost half a million dollars back in 2004/5 this amount was raised to avoid the Public Administrator taking over. It is reported that two disappointed businessmen not happy
with the management of the club are now seeking there share of the loan to be paid back, and in fact after discussions with the club are now taking the club to court. The amount is said to be $120.000 and the court case will take place some time in November d. The yearly budget for a Premier League Club is between $150,000 and $200,000. Yet, S. M. Hellas appears to be in strife, despite the fact that the Club enjoys assistance of close to $300,000 a year from the State Government and supporters! e. It has been rumored that the Club is seriously thinking to increase subscriptions for juniors to $3,500 a year per child! A fee that seems unreasonable. In view of the above, we contacted the president Mr. Athanasakis, to discuss the issues raised.
Mr Athanasakis said that the club had signed the relevant documents in regards to the use of lakeside oval and were waiting for the government to sign and return. He also said that the club will be showing a profit 150.000 this year and that all players had been paid in full. He however confirmed that the fees for the juniors will be up to 3.500. and will be for 48 weeks not just the regular season. MR Athanasakis confirmed to us that the club will be appearing in court in November in regards to the outstanding loan dept loaned back in 2004/5. Mr Athanasakis confirmed to us that he will be appearing live on 3xy Radio Hellas sports show on 10 November 2012 between 8pm and 10pm on Sunday night to answer all the questions in detail.

GREEK ROOTS The word “tragedy” is Greek for “goat-song” because early Greek tragedies honored Dionysus, the god of wine, and the players wore goatskins. Tragedies were noble stories of gods, kings, and heroes. Comedy or “revel,” on the other hand, were about lower-class characters and their antics.
DID YOU KNOW? The Celts were people from various tribes and were called Galli by the Romans and Galatai or Keltoi by the Greeks. These terms all had one meaning in common - barbarian. It is from the Greek word Keltoi, that Celt is derived…

Aris holds Olympiakos to its first draw Olympiakos dropped its first points in the league this season as it stumbled to a 2-2 draw at Aris, while Panathinaikos drew at OFI Crete with the same score a couple of hours earlier.
and Thanassis Papazoglou. Panathinaikos defender Andre Pinto got injured in the game and eill miss the forthcoming Athens derby with AEK and the Europa league cliash with Lazio in Rome.
Aris proved a formidable opponent for the champion at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium of Thessaloniki leading after just three minutes through a splendid Grigoris Papazacharias goal.
AEK scored its first victory in the Super League, in an otherwise barren weekend that saw just four goals in six games. Lienen led the Yellows to a 1-0 victory over visiting Platanias courtesy of a Taxiarchis Foundas goal. Despite that win, the oncemighty Athens team remains rooted at the foot of the table. Panionios defeated 10-man Panthrakikos at Komotini with a 2-1 score thanks to two goals by Christos Aravidis, while Juan Munafo had equalized for the hosts. The result has taken the Nea Smyrni club back up to the second spot.
Olympiakos, hwoever equalized within six minutes courtesy of inform winger Djamel Abdoun from the penalty spot. Aris regained the lead 11 minutes from time through David Aganzo, only for Olympiakos to make it 2-2 three minutes on via Jose Holebas, after Aris was left with 10 men due to the second yellow card to Nikos Psychogios. Panathinaikos led twice at Iraklio through Toche and Charis Mavrias, but OFI managed to equalize as many times with goals coming from Vassilis Koutsianikoulis

Melbourne Victory vs Wellingto Phoenix
The two Melbourne A-League clubs without a host of stars in December MELBOURNE Victory and Melbourne Heart could each lose three players for at least two matches at the start of December.
DID YOU KNOW? The true size of the Earth was known seventeen and a half centuries before it was first circumnavigated. In 230 B.C., the Greek philosopher Eratosthenes worked out its circumference of 25,000 miles by studying shadows cast by the sun in both Alexandria and Syene on the day of the Summer Solstice.
A-League clubs are bracing for mass disruption when the Socceroos play a four-game, nine-day qualifying tournament for next year’s East Asian Championships. The Socceroos will face host Hong Kong, North Korea, Guam and Chinese Taipei in the tournament starting on December 1. Football Federation Australia is expected to reap more than $3 million if the Socceroos make the finals of the triennial championship in July. The qualifying tournament is not on FIFA’s calendar of scheduled international match days so A-League players are expected to make up most of the 20-man squad. Victory’s Archie Thompson and Mark Milligan are certainties to be selected, given their involvement in recent World Cup qualifiers, while new teammate Nathan Coe will be considered for one of the two goalkeeping positions. As for Heart, Aziz Behich has long been touted a 2014 World
Cup possibility at left back and is likely to take his place in the squad alongside 2010 World Cup team member Richard Garcia. Victory players would miss a home game against Perth and Adelaide away, while any Heart players chosen would be absent for games against Sydney FC (home) and Perth (away).
Three A-League clubs in hunt for former Melbourne Victory star Harry Kewell
HARRY Kewell is back in Australia to honour a sponsorship commitment with clothing label Politix during the Spring Racing carnival. But one must be naïve to think that Harry won’t be discussing his football future while back home considering he remains uncontracted yet wants to play on for the Socceroos until at
least Brazil 2014. Three A-League clubs are realistic destinations for Harry - Melbourne Heart, Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC. WANDERERS boss Lyall Gorman says the club would consider meeting with Harry Kewell but dismissed speculation there has been any contact with the Socceroos star.
