Some of the things in my life that have influenced my work are certain photographers, which definitely includes Sarah Moon, who still serves as an inspiration. Black-and-white films from the 40s have played a big part as well. I love the classic simplicity of the clothes, the elegant poses and also the way the interior sets translate into blackand-white.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

The best thing about being a creator is being able to forever explore one’s inspirations. It’s a wonderful path that allows us to forever follow our inclinations.

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

The biggest barrier to being a creator is social media. I find that whenever I spend a significant amount of time on social media, I end up feeling “less than” as well as competitive and jealous of others. I forget that I am exactly where I should be and I need to be grateful that I have such a wonderful life.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

That I’m left handed and that I had bright blue eyes as a child that changed to hazel in puberty.

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

My aunt, Toby Robins, who was an amazing actress in the 50s and 60s. She showed me what true glamour was all about. I always felt the strength of her faith in me.

My inspiration comes from my nightmares, dreams and daily life. I call my pieces my “visual therapy” because that is what they are to me: a form of understanding myself and my surroundings. It all started alone in my Brooklyn apartment one night, where my nightmares had become almost unbearable to handle. My body reacted before my mind did and I was scared and alone, so I decided to collage my fears. It was cathartic and helped me deal with the isolation and anxiety. After my first post, I was encouraged by a close friend to keep posting and eventually my finsta evolved into consistent posts.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

I love that I can use this medium to express myself and relieve my anxiety, fears, isolation and optimistic future ideals while being authentically myself. But above that, I love that I can connect with others while connecting with myself.

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

Imposter syndrome! It is my biggest roadblock when trying to stay creative and authentic to why I started to create my collages in the first place. The best way I have tried to quiet those voices is to keep sharing my work, even when I don’t feel 100% confident or even love it, because at the end of the day it is my way of self expression. There is no right or wrong way to be yourself, so might as well put yourself out there. But, please don’t get me wrong, it is much easier said than done and I struggle with it more than I would like to admit, but living fearlessly is where I am trying to get to and my pieces are getting there one by one.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

My background is in architecture and I am currently still working in the industry. I also have an avid love for Korean dramas! They serve to trigger my hopeless romantic soul.

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

It might sound cheesy, but my biggest influence growing up were my parents! My mom in particular. She did not start creating art until recently, but she always had a very creative eye for interior design, crafts, art collection and the culinary arts. My dad, though less creatively inclined, was always an advocate in appreciating, collecting and speaking on art. In every new city we went to, he always took us to the museums and art galleries and my childhood home is filled with pieces from influential local artists like Malangatana and Naguib which was also a great way to stay inspired starting from home.

Travel, exhibition, love, film, music, animation, these all affect my works.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

Is to be able to show what you like through your own works.

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

I think it should be a single aesthetic style environment in China.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

Interesting, just like my works, in fact, the most important keyword is interesting.

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

What affects me most is the international hairstyle masters, such as Guido and Eugene. Their works inspire me to create constantly.

I love creating images and collaborating with people. I think my background in a variety of arts and performing arts has developed an appreciation for creating moments, moods, and always stories or messages… there’s always something emotional behind it, and in the finished piece, it’s about the interaction between the viewer/audience and what they are looking at, and the experience or reaction that creates.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

Two different things actually- one is finding flow and getting lost in your work-when you’re working on something and being so immersed… and on the flip side of that working with others (shoots/shows etc) when you’re collaborating with people and creating together; the experience, the connection, the not entirely predictable end result, and the inevitable story behind the process.

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

Reminding myself not to chase positive feedback, and not to stop going/growing after negative feedback. Learning to live with subjective opinions (both positive and negative), remaining centred and continuing to create from a place of authenticity (or at least as much as I understand that at this point).

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

One thing most people don’t know about me is that I am a third generation hairdresser. My grandma on my dad’s side had a shop in a small town called Miami in Manitoba, and my mom was a hairdresser in Winnipeg where I grew up.

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

Access to creative space from a young age. Early training in art, classical music, graphic arts, performing arts. My dad bought me a drafting table when I was very young and I spent a huge amount of time there, drawing on massive rolls of paper (salvaged from a print shop) -later building scale models of buildings on it. As a teen, I remember being at that drafting table drawing fashion magazine covers and pasting over existing ones.

I think our ordinary life is full of inspirations. If I had to pick only a few, it might be myself, nature, art (especially paintings), people and social media. Also I love travel to see new people, new culture, new land and history to keep influence myself.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

I feel truly happy when I express my pure feelings into my work, but still feel connected to others. Connection is the most difficult thing to build in a short period but the most important and will make a huge difference because we always work as a team.

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

Losing myself in the middle of nowhere. It’s a very random feeling that every creator must confront constantly.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

It’s about a diary between me and her. Also I know nothing about Photographer.

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

My sister. I loved copying her style and everything I know was from her. She is my super star. MARTHA INOUE

My work is influenced by various elements from the past, present and future. I’m inspired to draw from and combine different styles when creating my looks, specially pulling from the grunge era, pop culture and futuristic sci-fi.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

The best thing about being a creator is that artistic expression is endless and has no defined boundary. You get to be free, have fun and create beautiful works of art. I love the creative journey you go on while doing so!

What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?

I think the biggest barrier is myself and the expectations people place on you. I can be my own worst enemy as I am overly critical about my work and overanalyze other people’s opinions. There is a fine line between being self reflective and learning from what others say versus letting it overwhelm you and putting you in a rut.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?

Although my work can be very out there, most people who know me know that I am a down to earth homebody that loves a quiet night in with my partner (and cat of course).

What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up?

Growing up I’d say my mom had the biggest creative influence. She was always so put together and beautiful. She always encouraged me to express myself. I like to think I got my creative side from her.
