I’m constantly immersing myself into the spaces I create to push the boundaries of what’s possible. I see my work as not only an escape but as a release of emotions and thoughts.
How did you decide to pursue this path?
I’ve always been interested in various aspects of the art world. I started oil painting in high school, then I moved into conceptual photography. I started photographing bands and then moved into album art and vinyl design. Finally, I moved into digital art, focusing on collage and photomontages. While I still do all of this, my focus is now on mixed media art, focusing on collage and painting. I finally found a medium that allows me to combine all my interests into one: what I call collage paintings.
What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?
My work acts like a release of thoughts that I want to express visually all at once. It’s a feeling from my ever-wandering mind. If I’m not in a good place mentally, I can’t make good work. I always try to make sure I’m in a good and healthy state of mind to make art.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?
While my work is bright, happy, and colorful, internally I can be quite dark.
What aspects of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
I think about not only my fantasies but those present in other people’s minds as well. I like to think how a viewer’s environment and life experiences may alter how they see a piece. If I can leave the door open enough for interpretation, then I think a piece is successful.

Triumph. I’m in an industry that wasn’t meant to see black woman be successful, especially behind the scenes. I still must overcome a lot of obstacles that come easy to other stylists. So, when I look at my work, I see art that is over coming obstacles and continues to break barriers. It’s not only art, its victory.
How did you decide to pursue this path?
I always wanted to work in the fashion industry ever since I was a kid, I just didn’t know in what capacity. Dressing up and choosing clothes for my mom was something I always did I guess I didn’t call it styling. I know I wanted to be a stylist in 2012, when I got my first opportunity to style a fashion editorial for a local magazine that I was writing for; and from there I was like, “ah ha! I wanna do this fulltime.”
What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?
The barriers I face I feel have nothing to do with me, it mostly has to do with how people in the industry perceive me. Black people are often used as tokens in the industry and rarely given the same opportunities as other races. How I address those issues is to keep putting out great work and continuing being the best stylist I can be. Continuing to push myself and pray that what’s meant for me will be for me and have faith that the work I’m doing will be seen by the right people at the right time.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?
My favourite colour is pink, but I barely wear it or shoot it! Finding the right shade of pink is hard!
What aspects of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
I’m the biggest introvert, but I love interacting with people. I find connecting with the right people and communicating with them is the most fulfilling. Having clients trust me and forming a business to friendship relationship is something I always hold near and dear to me.

I see a certain beauty in what is dark, melancholy and decadent. I only talk about things that I have experienced or that affect me.
How did you decide to pursue this path?
Art is a way to exorcise the dark part in me
What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?
The biggest obstacle is time, it goes at breakneck speed. I like to draw at night when everything seems to have stopped around me
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?
I really like cooking and gardening. In general, I like to focus on tasks that give a lot of concentration
What aspects of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
Drawing has become a kind of meditation It allows me to exorcise my inner demons

An artist has the advantage of seeing the work from the inside. When I look at one of my paintings, I can reflect on the moment it was created. I can recollect what I was thinking about, what was on the radio at the time, the technical problems that had to be solved.
How did you decide to pursue this path?
It’s a difficult question to answer, actually. My studio practice is central to almost everything I do. There’s something inside of me that isn’t settled unless I’m working at my craft. I feel a compulsion to do this. Art is my compass as I explore what it means to be here.
What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?
There never seems to be enough time. Artists need lots of think-time, which most people would see as unproductive. In my case, I burn a lot of time trying to decide what to paint next. I’ll stare at dozens of electronic sketches for hours, ruminating about which to dive further into. In the end, it really doesn’t matter. I’m trying to be more disciplined about my indecision over this.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?
I’m not sure where to start with that one. I play ice hockey. I’ve traveled a good bit to over 20 countries and spent quite a bit of time living abroad.
What aspects of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
Through my work, I’m exploring concepts that I feel are important to understand: our place in the universe, the human condition, what have you. It’s a privilege to focus my work on those things that I decide are important.

I’m laser-focused on details. Without striving for perfection, I’m always learning and growing.
How did you decide to pursue this path?
I grew up drawing and later studied painting. Makeup came as a natural next step.
What is your biggest barrier to being a creator? How do you address it?
Self-doubt seems to get in the way. Still figuring that one out though.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your work alone?
While there’s definitely a strong social aspect of doing makeup and working as part of a larger team that I appreciate and thrive in, I’m most in my element when I’m alone and recharging.
What aspects of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
The entire flow of gathering inspiration, curating looks and finally creating and collaborating with a team on set is a really magical experience.
