CHRISTMAS The ethereal sky was shattered-A star with brilliance ruled O’er all the slopes of Judah Giving earth a special hue.
The shepherds ran to tell it! Excitedly, they bore The news to everyone they met The Saviour has been born! - Maxine Trigleth
Driving the night of blackness Into obscurity-Allowing the least of creatures To appear in its purity. The sleeping now were awakened. Wonderment touched their eyes. Who could explain what was happening Where were the ones who were wise? Did any remember the prophets And the faithful words foretold Of Messiah sent as a baby To David’s city of old? And then a chorus of angels-What a beautiful heavenly sight, Spoke peace to humble shepherds As they kept their flock that night.

waiting on them, and within minutes, there was only me and another young man standing around. He had to catch a bus out at 5 a.m. and I had to catch one at 7 a.m., so we wondered what to do for those short hours in the middle of the night.
Strange Bedfellows For the Cause of Christ By Narciso Zamora I recently returned from a churchplanting trip to a small town of Luya that on a good day is about 15 hours by bus from my home in Cajamarca. I’m happy to say that I was well received. One day, we had 14 meet together, 17 on another day, and 10 new children came to meet with us as well. The three families I worked with are now meeting for Bible studies and we’re preparing materials for them to evangelize, disciple and cement their new congregation.
The young man said, “Let’s walk one block and see about that hotel.” We arrived and rang the bell and a young woman came out, asked for our documents, and then said, “I have room, it will be $13.” That was very expensive for me. As I was thinking about what to do, the young man said, “I only have four hours to sleep because I have to leave again on a bus at 5 a.m.”
I thank God for the outcome of that trip, and I had plenty of reason to praise God for the journey too.
The young lady then replied, “There is a room you could share for $10.”
I left on a Tuesday morning at 4 a.m. for a 17-hour trip on a mini-bus. All day we went up and down hills and mountains, with narrow curves where only one vehicle at a time could pass. If we met up with another vehicle, one of us would have to back up for the length of several blocks until there was a wider spot in the road where we could pass. And if that was bad enough, it seemed that about half the trip was on roads under construction.
The hotel was pretty full that night – the room was on top floor. When we opened the door, we were surprised to see that there was only one double bed. I placed my backpack on one side of the room and lay down on the bed. The other man just sat up on the bed. I said, “Lay down.” And then I started to tell him about the Gospel. I thought it was the best thing to do since we were as cozy as two cats in a bag! We certainly hadn’t intended to end up together in a room. We
At 1 a.m., we finally arrived in the city of Chachapoyas. When the bus arrived, many people had someone 4

children on the bus and they cried out of hunger. It was a tough day and people were disgruntled. When we finally were able to get through, we stopped at the first place we could find and they only had rice and potatoes to serve us. We ate it – our lunch and dinner at once – and finally made it back to Cajamarca at 12:30 a.m.
We slept for a couple of hours after that and then the young man woke and left in time to catch his bus at 5 a.m. But those few hours meant a lot more than just a little rest for his body. That night he renewed his faith and commitment to Christ!
At that hour, I was not able to find any transport back to my house from the bus stop – no buses or taxis, so I had to walk. It’s not safe to walk by oneself at that hour and there I was with that computer and projector in my backpack! I went praying all the way, trusting Jesús’ care.
I was left wondering what kind of fool would take a hotel room with a total stranger – and share the same bed, no less! I had taken into account where this young man had gotten on to the bus, however, and knowing that small town he was from gave me some confidence about his character. But that was all I had to go on as I consented to sharing a room and falling to sleep with my backpack full of my ministry materials – computer, projector and films.
God continues to bless us as we work to establish new churches in places without evangelical cchurches. Learn more about Narciso Zamora’s ministry at www.WalkingMan.ws. |
The trip home was another adventure. With all the road work, compounded with strong rain, our trip was delayed by eight hours. The people on the bus had eaten breakfast at 8 a.m., but we got stranded by the rain and construction in a place where there was no food to be had. There were 5
As well, I have been thinking of reasons why addresses change, while hoping that the relocations are always for the best; and yet, in cases of illness or sorrow, I am concerned. Our prayers are for God’s blessings in every aspect of your lives, especially in those wee morning hours which, at times, are filled with worries or challenges. Please remember that your letters and requests for prayer are always welcome. God bless and protect you. Editor
EARLY MORNING At Christian Triumph If you are a morning person, 4:30 a.m. may be a great time to be alone with God or even do some extra work. Brother L. Y. Janes, founder of Christian Triumph, would often go to his little office about this time and commune with his Father. As a teenager, I lived with him and his wife, working as a missionary. When I was just getting up in the morning, he was just coming back from sacred moments spent in meditation, and, always, there was a smile on his face. It appeared that being “alone” with God, in the darkness of an early day, was the opposite of being “lone-ly.” In fact, this experience seems, instead, to be a time of refreshment and guidance from God’s Holy Spirit. And, truthfully, the results are usually smiles and Divine Peace. This early morning, 11/12/12, I have been praying and working - changing addresses on the Faith Messenger mailing list - while appreciating each one who shares valuable moments in reading this periodical.
A WORD FROM YOUR FATHER: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
DECEMBER 1973 WHY DID CHRIST COME TO EARTH? EDITOR
At times I wonder why Jesus, God the Son, came to earth. Of course, there are many documents and books that attempt to answer that question; however, the best answer might be found by looking in the mirror. He came for me. If He had not, where would I be today? Still, the question remains, as I wonder why the Creator would surrender Himself to such cruelty - for human beings who so often scorn Him. Pg 7 6
I just now found an old copy of the December 1973 Faith Messenger, and, there in big black letters, I see, “THE WHY OF CHRISTMAS,” by Rev. L. Y. Janes, the founder of Christian Triumph ministry. To my surprise, His written words reveal why he believed Jesus came. They also tell the reasons for devoting his life to a literature ministry that sends the Good News of God’s love to South America and other countries. His writes: “Christ, the Lord, came to earth to perfect a plan of salvation by which any, or every, creature of earth could be saved by simply believing – from the heart – on His Name.” Continuing: “God’s message has so often been brought to humble persons who would take time to listen. The shepherds could and did give ear to the wonderful message. Many today [1973] desire to do away with Christ, as Herod of old…such hatred followed Christ all through His ministry. Christ suffered for us. “Finally when Christ had finished His work, He surrendered to His enemies and they nailed Him to the rugged cross…on the cross He bowed His head and said, ‘It is finished.’ It breaks my heart to think of all Christ had to suffer for your salvation and mine – because of His LOVE JOURNEY to Earth which began the first
