Letter From LTG-
Back to school, back to the grind, everyone! Hopefully your summers wrapped up nicely, and you were prepared to hit the ground running for this school year- I know I was! With so many service projects and opportunities in the horizon, I’m so, so excited to promote the goodness of Key Club to the incoming freshmen and to provide a community they will love for their next four years of high school. Understandably, adjusting back to the school schedule is always rough. I’m confident that you guys will find a comfortable routine to manage everything, and have attached some tips and reminders I hope you’ll find useful for getting the ball rolling for this year. This is when all that preparation you did over the summer finally can be put to work! Make sure you guys are attending Key Club events regularly and making sure your members can access you guys, not even when they need to ask questions about Key Club, but so they know they have a safe space and friends with us! And just as how we want them to feel welcomed and special, I want you guys to feel the same way as well. You all are doing an amazing job and our Division grows stronger each day, thanks to your amazing talents and work! Yours in service, Christina Lee

Back to School Special: 4 Simple Steps for Success! 1. There’s a First for Everything • •
• • •
•
6
Begin planning for your first general meeting with your board members Make promotional posters, get your club meeting location and time on the school announcements, and carry around flyers or forms so you can hand them out to your friends before class Plan to bring food and membership forms (more is always better than less!) for the meeting Invite me or your Kiwanian! Try something new: do you want to have a bulletin board outside of your sponsor’s room so your members can easily see upcoming information? Go for it! Begin finalizing your plans: • When is your membership form due? (Treasurers- please remember that the Early Bird deadline is November 1st. Plan accordingly so you have time to manage everything!) • Get a calendar of your events for the first semester. Send this to me!
2. Showtime! • Make sure you have a few officers at the meeting location beforehand in case there are early members • Have music playing and some sort of handout so members can take away something • Bring free food or candy for the first meeting • Make sure you start off with an icebreaker that large groups can play: Perfect Match is a good one! • Have all officers introduce themselves and explain their position • If you have any guests, ask them to introduce themselves as well • Your sponsor(s) should be there to talk about what they do as well! • Explain what Key Club is for the first timers, and make sure you leave them with something that will make them want to come back!
7
3. We’re so much more than a Volunteer Club • Make a video featuring all the officers and have them describe what Key Club means to them! • Make sure you as officers are really getting to know your members at eventschances are they want to talk to you! • Plan at least one fundraiser every six weeks: • Car washes • Profit shares • Candy sales • Etc. • Plan at least one social each month: • Your first one should be focused on getting freshmen comfortable with upperclassmen or a back-to-school social • Have it at school, a park, an officer’s house, wherever works! • Bring free food and speakers for music
8
4. Keep ‘Em Coming! • •
•
Remember to stay on top of your Monthly duties! This is especially for the Secretaries, Editors, and Presidents. Make sure you recognize your Key Clubbers: • Give free candy at meetings to those who wear their Key Club shirts • Recognize those who get the most hours every six weeks at meetings Do you have some sort of publicity system in place? If not, consider: • Send out biweekly email reminders using the emails you got from membership forms! • Set up a Remind 101 for easy reminders about events or meetings • Set up a Facebook group so people can ask questions and post pictures too • Do you love social media? Great! Combine that love with your love for Key Club and set up an Instagram and/or Twitter for your club! • Does your school have some sort of e-newsletter or video channel? Ask for a feature so parents and teachers alike can see the amazing work you do!

Have You Updated Your COCI? Q: What is COCI?
A: COCI is the acronym for “Club Officer Contact Information”, which is the place on tokeyclub.com where we can keep up with your officer team!
Q: Why should I update it?
A: Firstly, it gives you points if you record it on your Monthly Report, though this can only be counted once! It also provides us a way to contact you.
Q: How do I update my COCI?
A: Log into your tokeyclub.com account by clicking “Login” at the top right. Your username should be the full name of your high school, but click “Members Only” and scan the list until you see your school name. Copy and paste that into the “Username” blank and then enter your correct password- which, you can reset, only if you have access to the email account in which your school registered with. Once logged in, go to the “Members Only” button and click “Update Club Officers”.
Q: How can I tell if I’ve updated my COCI?
A: You should be able to see the updated information once you log into tokeyclub.com. If you aren’t sure, email me and I can check for you!
Q: What if I can’t access my COCI?
A: Please contact me or our District Administrator (administrator@tokeyclub.com) and we will try to get the problem fixed ASAP.
Q: Are all officer positions on COCI?
A: No, not all officer positions are on COCI- but you must fill out the ones on the site. If you have more than one officer for the same position (for example, you have two secretaries), you only have to fill the appropriate information for one person.
