Skylight By Laurie Smith The scratchy, flickering film noisily displays the frozen tundra of the antarctic as the dry drone of a sleep-inducing narrator describes the behavior of the penguin and the harsh habitat in which they live. The audience has no idea what they are about to see, when one of the googly-eyed birds breaks away from the colony, innocently waddling toward an odd beam of sunlight breaking through the gloomy antarctic sky. a loud boom jolts viewers into an upright position as the penguin explodes into a roast turkey. What? animation short film Skylight recently won Indie Fest awards and screened at the Phoenix Film Festival to a full house and laughter that continued through the credits. “animation has the ability to express things you can’t normally express with live action,” said avid film buff and Phoenix Film Festival volunteer Jill edelman. “The filmmaker really sent a message about the dangers of global warming, and did it in such a humorous way that I think more people will pay attention to it than say, if it were a public service announcement.” Filmmaker David baas, making his directorial debut with Skylight, currently serves as animation Department head at Starz animation in Toronto, canada. he is in charge of animation resources, training and quality for all projects. Starz animation produces feature film animation, most recently for 9 for executive producer Tim burton. along with several other upcoming projects, baas and Starz has a feature due out in early 2011, Gnomeo and Juliet, yep, you guessed it, the characters are animated garden

gnomes. The film is a longtime passion project of none other than Sir elton John. baas shared that the Skylight project stemmed from a one-panel Far Side®-like cartoon that he created a couple of decades ago. “It was around the time the hole in the ozone layer was discovered. The original caption read, ‘the penguins cautious and wary, although a few happened to accidentally wander under the hole in the ozone layer.’ In the visual there’s nothing there but a roasted turkey carcass,” baas laughed. Scott Storm, producer of Official Rejection, a film documenting the struggles of making an independent film, that had its world premier at Phoenix last year, said of Skylight, “I wanted to see animated shorts because I did animation for official rejection, and I’m always interested in seeing what people are doing now. everyone seems to be gravitating toward 3D; Skylight was an interesting style because they made it look like an old movie. It would flicker, and come in and out of focus. I wasn’t really sure what to make of it at first, but I enjoyed it. It was goofy, but presented the dangers of global warming in a very humorous way.”

it all began back in 1995 where 3 young and talented men of Maui, began their musical journey.

gave hawaii a little twist of its own unique style. hits such as Just one night and Shores of Waiehu took up a lot of air time on the local radio stations in hawaii.

Lukela Keala, akoni Dellomes & Makapu hoopii attended baldwin high School and was enrolled in the music class. Day after day they would have little jam session's but always tried to perfect what they played. as the year went by, their talents allowed them to perform in front of an audience for the first time at brown bags to Stardom. although they took 2nd place to ballerina dancers (ha ha ha!). It didn't stop them. Former baldwin high school teacher, Kevin brown plays a great role in their music history today. he was the ukulele and slack key guitarist teacher but also Lukela's uncle. he taught them the values of becoming a musician but most important, to be humble. Since then Lukela, akoni and Makapu strived on to become the entertainers they are today. Down in the Valley became their first hit back in 1999. This album made them well-known not only in hawaii, but also in the Mainland and as far as east coast. Three years later, ekolu came out with their second debut album called, Shores of Waiehu. This album

ekolu has traveled to many parts of the united States. They've been to alaska, Seattle Washington, utah, Portland oregon, Los angeles, San Diego, arizona, San Francisco, colorado, and even places like Japan and Tahiti. ekolu has played in front of crowds up to 20,000 plus people. They enjoy every moment of sharing their music with people all over the world. every trip they take truly becomes a memorable moment. ekolu also has a lot of achievements in their musical journey. They currently have 3 na hoku hanohano awards for reggae album of the Year and also has 4 hawaii Music awards. They have 2 for reggae album of the year, 1 for contemporary album of the year and 1 for anthology album of the year. ekolu's first 4 albums has also been blessed to be on the Top World billboards. Their main goal in music is to share their music with the rest of the world. Learn more about ekolu and their journey at www.ekolumusic.com

The Incubator™ Magazine was granted pre-release access to San antonio recording artist Twigutta's newest and most anticipated cD release appropriately titled Access Granted. The first thing we noticed was Twigutta's distinctive vocal style which, frankly, is a must when trying to stand out in a sea of name-hungry rappers. Lyrically, he makes an impressive impact, easily connecting with his audience & representing the city of San antonio. It's easy to see some work went into this release, including different production styles as evident in tracks like Club Under Pressure, Superman and Love at First Sight. Twigutta shows versatility and delivers well over a variety of beats, often outshining the music production itself which says quite a bit about his dedication to the craft. however, when considering total production value of a cD, vocals and music production should be equally matched unless you're actually TrYIng to put yourself out front while at the same time discredit the accompanying music. Though the sound quality of the engineered and mixed final product is on point, we feel the track order did not completely deliver, with a few musically similar tracks placed one after the other it seemed like one extra long song. The right mastering can make the difference between a 'good' cD and a 'great' cD. overall, Twigutta's latest release, access granted, will not disappoint his fans. Lyrically, he shines throughout the project with great vocals and memorable hooks and his creativity shows through with substance and staying power. In our opinion, production of the cD is more than adequate with some room for improvement with the right mastering. We recomment Twigutta's access granted as a buy, and we look forward to hearing more from this talented artist.

ANTHONY MARTINEZ: Black Note Records

is a man with a horn in san Antonio! TthonyAhererenaissance Man and his name is AnMartinez. By Melvin David Lampkins

All stories have a beginning. His game is music and his vision is one of a Black Note. Put it together and you have the story of Anthony Martinez and Black Note. Who is Anthony Martinez? What is Black Note? Allow me to take you on a journey of discovery. Welcome to the world of saxophonist extraordinaire, Anthony Martinez, CEO and Founder of Black Note Records and the Black Note Group! An inspirational tale of perseverance and true grit. A man and his horn and the story behind what is called BLACK NOTE, a movement, a lifestyle, a GALLERIA OF THE ARTS. The story begins, with memories from his father Roland Martinez, retired science teacher here in San Antonio. “I used to practice the sax while taking care of Anthony while he was at the crawling and getting into everything stage. As time went on I let him mess with the mechanism “keys” and blow through the mouthpiece. The time came when he was 4 or 5 yrs

of age when he was able to hold the sax on his own. The next thing you know he was able to blow a steady stream of air through the mouthpiece, I then proceeded to position his fingers over the keys and he was to blow a “c” note. Time went on and I taught him how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I had an extra sax so then I taught him how to exchange licks on the same song. He really enjoyed that . He then learned music notation and just practiced familiarizing himself with the workings of the sax. I personally had limited knowledge myself so after teaching him all I knew it was time to join

RENISSANCE MAN OF THEbyALAMO CITY Melvin David Lampkins the middle school band. Now that he was getting formal training I continued teach him how to listen to my all time favorites: Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Wilton Felder, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Wes Montgomery, Joe Sample and lets not forget the root of it all CHARLIE BIRD PARKER. Who, by the way, still influences Anthony’s playing. It is Charlie Parker’s style that has led Anthony to play out of the box. One last note, Anthony became very competitive all through middle school and high school winning many awards and proceeding after graduating from high school to enroll at Berklee College of Music where he continued his musical growth”. What is BLACK NOTE? Chapter One: The Black Note Vision! Anthony's words: “The Black Note Idealist Organization was officially formed in the year of 2006, but you can find traces of their work dating back to early 2003. The concept and objective of Black Note is to combine all art forms , synergistically delivering both a ‘visual and physical’ message to the masses. Black Note forms an aggregation o f Musicians,Producers,Composers,Artists,Writers,Poets and Visionaries all dedicated to the elevation of their craft. In the musical aspect of Black Note you find samples of all genres of music, fusing Jazz,Hip Hop, Soul, Latin, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, Rock, Gospel and Spiritual Music. From a Visual perspective Black Note it consists of a variety of Artists, including graffiti, tattoo, and graphic designers. Black Note is interminably growing and transcending the ‘Art’ elements to a higher level , representing a timeline of the past, and a reflection of the present . Using ‘Song’ and ‘Canvas’ to create a Time Capsule for future civilizations, Black Note continues to strive for superior craftsmanship and effortless mastery”. What is Galleria of the Arts? Chapter Two: Vision realized! The Inaugural Opening Circus of The Arts 3! Anthony's words: “The Circus Of The Arts is a production of shows hosted by Black Note which is composed of Music and Art Elements. Live Jazz,Blues,Hip Hop,Spoken Word/Poetry, with various artists performing all together in one night, including

special guests and acoustic sets. Since, Anthony spoke these prophetic words, there have been 3 Circus of the Arts programs. The vision was realized, with the inaugural opening of, “The Black Note Galleria Of Fine Arts” on April 7, 2012 at 5740 Wurzbach Road in San Antonio, Texas! The galleria and it is concept was a dream that Anthony conceived of at age 19 and by paying his dues, it was realized at age 24 with a successful opening! The building houses: a stage for live music performances, a art gallery, classrooms for music instructions & lessons (open to the public), a tattoo parlor, recording studio and an actual place where artist can actually make artwork on location to sell on location. A true Renaissance man, 24 year old Martinez is a mixture of the old and the new. Be Bop and Hip Hop. A man who's dream has become reality and the world is a better place because of it. A Renaissance man involved in what I term THE ALAMO CITY RENISANCE, the re-birth of a city, the ALAMO CITY! Final words from Roland Martinez: “My only regret is that I didn’t continue to learn the saxophone so that I could enjoy playing with Anthony, so I have settled to just enjoy listening to him and offer my input and critiques. I wish my son the best in all of his music endeavors and I hope that the good Lord grants him all the desires of his heart”. There are still chapters to be written in this book, the rest of the story is unwritten. Join us again as we share the rest of the story, the story of a Renaissance Man with his horn, as he continues his re-birth and writes the unfinished story as the book is still be written and many chapters to come.

ut your Head in the Digital Music Cloud

(NewsUSA) - When it comes to storing digital music files, people are often confronted with the dilemma of choosing which type of operating platform to use. In many cases, people find themselves stuck in the "i-opoly" -- the monopolystyle hold of Apple's iTunes on digital music -- of the digital-media world. Worse yet, users find that their digital music use is limited to certain devices based on their operating systems. Well, this no longer has to be the case. The "cloud" movement has opened a new door to the world of digital music. Having the ability to store your digital files in one central "virtual" location was the first step. The second step: accessing and playing those files from various devices across different operating systems -- according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, about 73 percent of iPad owners have another type of mobile phone other than an iPhone. One company, MyMusicCloud, may be the first to accomplish this feat. "MyMusicCloud extends the simplicity of enjoying your treasured music collection stored on Dropbox by allowing you to hear it anywhere you go on any mobile device, tablet or PC," says Tamir Koch, CEO for TriPlay. "Additionally, MyMusicCloud provides an incredible user experience via a music player interface displaying users' playlists, albums, artists and tracks."

Other cloud music services, like those from Apple, Amazon, Google and others, suggest the potential for making streaming digital music to mobile gadgets an everyday tool. However, they frequently don't cooperate across different devices and operating systems. Another problem is that without a signal, service is lost. On the contrary, with MyMusicCloud, users get an interface that not only plays nicely across the various operating systems but also has the capability to keep on playing without a connection to the Internet. Better yet, users can press pause on one device, then continue listening where they left off on another device. And those dreaded Blackberry compatability problems are now gone. "BlackBerry users should be able to simply enjoy their music collections on their devices of choice without having to be concerned with the technical complexity associated with getting those devices to talk with each other," says Koch.

The Art of War Name: Lynard Jones Email: lynard@gmail.com Height: 5"10" - Weight: 200 status: MMA Fighter Category: Professional styles: Muay Thai, BJJ, Kuk Sool Won Achievements: United States Marine

L

ynard "the Predator" Jones was born on March 24, 1975 in san Diego, California.

Athlete Bio My first sport had absolutely nothing to do with fighting (though the lycra/spandex was similar). I grew up as a football player, competing as an amateur from ages 11 to 18. While I made it to the varsity level, I wasn’t quite headed for collegiate glory. I started dabbling in mix martial arts in 2004 and in 2010, I turned professional and had my first Pro fight against Kyle Simpson. To say that I was outmatched, out trained and out gunned was an understatement. In April of 2011, I had my second fight against Marco Hernandez. Again it was pretty much the same. That summer I met someone who ultimately changed the direction of my life. It was during the next 8 months that I learned a lot of myself and what hell must be like. I also realized that if I wanted to be a fighter that I must live, breathe and bleed fighting. It is not a game or something I could just do because it looked good. That was a very trying time ( still is but I'm getting stronger every day). In 2012, I began training religiously in the disciplines of Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kuk Sool Won (my new found love). I started going back to my temple ( I'm a Buddhist

but also started attending a Christian church. ( who knew that the bible was a blue print of life!). In addition I am under the Head tutelage of Nate Dillworth at San Antonio Body Fit. This man has taught me so much in the very short time I have been with him. I see amazing things unfolding, not only in my fighting but in life as well. I am coming out with a complete clothing line before summer hits so please be on the look out. In 2012, I am training out of Vong Phet Muay Thai Academy, Carlson Gracie BJJ, San Antonio Body Fit, the Spartan Pit (Krav Maga) PTK Silat, and Capoeria all out of San Antonio, TX. I will represent all the above on the fight circuit. Check out my fight calendar and please come say hello if you see me at a competition, fight, seminar or just training. If you do approach me post whatever, you might have to remind me of my own name as well as yours. This fighting stuff really takes it out of a body. And apparently my mind.
