En un movimiento que consolida y aclara sus divisiones de cigarros hechos a mano y hechos a máquina, las marcas J.Cortès y Oliva Cigars ahora se encuentran bajo el paraguas general del grupo de inversiones Vandermarliere Cigar Family. J. Cortès seguirá siendo el nombre principal en la producción de cigarros hechos a máquina; y Oliva Cigars, el famoso tabaco nicaragüense comprado por Cortès en 2016, ahora actuará como empresa matriz de todos los cigarros hechos a mano. El propietario Frederik Vandermarliere dijo: “Tiene sentido dejar en claro nuestras dos divisiones distintas. Bajo Vandermarliere Cigar Family, todas nuestras marcas ahora se unen por primera vez”. CORTÈS, Oliva y los Vandermarlieres están unidos por el mismo vínculo común: la familia. J.Cortès will remain the headlining name in machine-made cigar production; and Oliva Cigars – the vaunted Nicaraguan longfiller cigarmaker bought by Cortès back in 2016 – will now act as parent company for all handmade cigars. La Zona Colonial de la Ciudad Primada de América fue el lugar seleccionado para el reencuentro de la Asociación de Productores de Cigarros de la República Dominicana, PROCIGAR, con los amantes de los cigarros premium, durante la séptima edición del Procigar Night. Luego de dos años sin poder celebrar el tradicional encuentro de la forma acostumbrada, Hendrik Kelner, presidente de PROCIGAR, ofreció la bienvenida a los presentes destacando la emoción sentida por todos los miembros de la asociación, al poder estar en la compañía de verdaderos aficionados del cigarro dominicano, tiempo que expresaba: “Esta noche tenemos mucho que celebrar, celebremos
lo aprendido en este período especial de tiempo, sin olvidar que juntos podemos disfrutar de algo que nos llena de orgullo: el compromiso con la industria del cigarro, que es cultura y forjadora de nuestras raíces dominicanas”. En la actividad el ministro de Industria, Comercio y MYPIMES, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, se dirigió a los asistentes destacando la importancia de continuar trabajando en programas articulados desde una óptica público-privada en beneficio de este sector. El encuentro estuvo cargado de alegría, música, amigos, baile, buena comida, exquisitas bebidas y los mejores cigarros del mundo, los cigarros dominicanos fabricados por las empresas socias de PROCIGAR: Tabacalera A. The Colonial Zone of the First City of America was the place selected for the reencounter of the Association of Dominican Cigar Manufacturers, PROCIGAR, with premium cigar lovers, during the seventh edition of Procigar Night. After two years without the traditional meeting, Hendrik Kelner, president of PROCIGAR, welcomed those present highlighting the emotion felt by all the association members, being able to be in the company of true Dominican cigar fans, while expressed: “Tonight we have a lot to celebrate, let’s celebrate what
we have learned in this special period of time, without forgetting that together we can enjoy something that fills us with pride: our commitment to the cigar industry, which is culture and forger of our Dominican roots”. During the activity, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MYPIMES, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of continuing to work on programs articulated from a public-private perspective for the benefit of this sector. The meeting was full of joy, music, friends, dancing, good food, exquisite drinks and the best cigars in the world, Dominican cigars manufactured by PROCIGAR member companies.

Abrió sus puertas Casa Mella-Russo, un centro de arte y cultura ubicado en la emblemática Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo, en República Dominicana, cargado de historia y una plataforma que sirve de apoyo a los artistas, curadores y gestores culturales, abierta al público de 10:00 de la mañana a 6:00 de la tarde, de martes a sábado. Altagracia Mella Russo, directora del centro, expresó que se trata de un proyecto de carácter no lucrativo, y que posee una visión e influencia cultural, que además de ser una galería de arte, es un aporte en la restauración que requiere toda la Ciudad Colonial, a modo de retribución para preservar su esencia y naturaleza como patrimonio de la humanidad. En la galería se puede apreciar una fuerte presencia de artistas extranjeros, fruto de esa migración masiva que ocurrió a finales de los años 30’s y principio de los 40`s, como: Joseph Gausachs, José Vela Zanetti, Eugenio F. Granell, Andrés Breton, Wifredo Lam, George Hausdorf, y el caso peculiar de Oswaldo Guayasamín, quien siempre mantuvo una estrecha relación con la República Dominicana. El resto de las obras que la componen son un viaje sobre la visión estética dominicana, desde el principio de los años 1900 hasta nuestros días, donde encontramos maestros de la plástica nacional como: Celeste Woss y Gil, Iván Tovar, Domingo Liz, Rincón Mora, Yoryi Morel, Ada Balcácer, Darío Suro, Paul Giudicelli, Elsa Núñez, Clara Ledesma, Said Musa, Jaime Colson, Guillo Pérez, José Cestero, Orlando Menicucci y Danilo de los Santos. Otros muy presentes en nuestra memoria cultural como: Amaya Salazar, Plutarco Andújar, Barón Arias, León Bosch y Salvador Vasallo.

CASA MELLA RUSSO, A PLACE OF HIGH CULTURAL SENSE AND FULL ART Casa Mella-Russo, an art and culture center located in the emblematic Colonial City of Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, opened its doors. This is a place full of history and with a platform that supports artists, curators and cultural managers, open to the public from 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon, from Tuesday to Saturday. Altagracia Mella Russo, the center director, expressed that it is a non-profit project, and that it has a vision and cultural influence, which in addition to being an art gallery, is a contribution to
the restoration that the entire Colonial City requires, by way of retribution to preserve its essence and nature as a patrimony of humanity. In the gallery you can see a strong presence of foreign artists, the result of that massive migration that occurred in the late 30’s and early 40’s, such as: Joseph Gausachs, José Vela Zanetti, Eugenio F.
