UNDERSTANDING YOUR UTILITY BILL

For convenience, residents receive a single monthly utility bill from Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) for water, sewer, waste, recycling and stormwater services.

Water Base Charge

Greater Cincinnati Water Works is responsible for water operations in the City Water charges have two components - a base charge and consumption charge The Water Base Charge is a fixed amount that is assessed to all customers for providing water service availability and connection to the public water system It includes GCWW operations and maintenance costs for processing treatment storage and delivery of water and emergency customer care and billing services GCWW adjusts Water Base Charge rates each year in January for inflation

Water Consumption Charge

The Water Consumption Charge is based on the amount of water used during the period of time reflected on the bill Water is measured in cubic feet ccf

ccf gallons of water

Usage History Chart

This chart provides an overview of water usage over the past -month period If you see a sudden spike in your charges for water services it may indicate a potential leak We encourage you to contact GCWW immediately at

Waste Collection Charges

The City contracts with Rumpke Inc for waste and recycling removal services in the community Residents are assessed a flat fee for this service

This fee increases annually based upon contractual amounts

Sewer Consumption Charge

The Sewer Consumption Charge is based on water consumption

During the summer months sewer consumption rates are adjusted to reflect outdoor water usage Read more about the Summer Sewer Cap at imaginemason org

Stormwater Charge

The Stormwater Charge provides a funding source for stormwater management projects in the City Stormwater produced by rain or snow is captured in the stormwater system and transferred to local waterways helping to prevent flooding on roadways and throughout the community

Residents pay a fixed stormwater utility fee each month Businesses pay a stormwater fee based upon impervious area on the property

The City adjusts the Stormwater Charge each year in January based on a cost of living increase

Sewer Base Charge

The Sewer Base Charge is similar to the Water Base Charge The City of Mason is responsible for wastewater sewer operations The Sewer Base Charge is a fixed amount that is assessed to all customers for providing wastewater service availability and connection to the public wastewater system operations maintenance and capital improvements of the City’s wastewater system and Water Reclamation Plant Wastewater is any water that enters the wastewater system typically through a drain This water must be treated before reentering local waterways The wastewater system is one of the most significant services provided by the City for maintaining a healthy and safe community The City adjusts Sewer Base Charge rates each year in January based on a cost of living increase

Historic Sewer Utility Rate Reduction

On November 14, 2022, Mason City Council unanimously authorized a reduction to the residential and commercial sewer utility rate, effective January 1, 2023. This momentous action results in at least $150 in annual savings for residential customers and at least $125 in annual savings for commercial customers. This is a significant achievement for the City of Mason.

Sewer service is one of the most under-acknowledged but critical components to stability of life and maintaining a healthy, growing community. Nearly two decades ago, City Council made the strategic decision to relocate and construct a new water reclamation plant to help meet the community’s need for expanded wastewater treatment operations. The new Water Reclamation Plant was intentionally designed with the capacity to meet not just the existing needs of the community but considered the projected growth of the City. The forethought to construct the facility based on future anticipated capacities allowed Mason to continue its aggressive economic development activity, which helps keep tax rates low while providing high quality services and amenities for the community. The City’s Water Reclamation Plant remains a key driver to economic growth in the community. To this day, the Plant operates at approximately 65% of its capacity. This allows

the City to remain an attractive destination for businesses looking to relocate or expand, which further strengthens our economy.

Due to Mason’s strong commitment to strategic economic development and financial stewardship, the City was able to pay off the outstanding sewer debt initially issued for the construction of the Water Reclamation Plant. This action resulted in $2.3 million in interest expense savings and ultimately led to the City’s decision to evaluate and reduce sewer utility rates for all customers in Mason.

Good financial management, strong credit rating, elimination of debt, and strategic economic development have positioned the sewer utility to have a healthy fund balance and allow Mason City Council the ability to reduce rates while also having sufficient funds for capital investments, unforeseen emergencies, and compliance mandates.

Sewer utility rate reductions for both residents and businesses will be reflected on February utility bills based on January usage. This historic achievement could not have been done without the leadership and vision of former and current elected officials as well as Mason’s prudent financial management and operating practices. In times of economic hardships that are felt nationwide, it is simply the right thing to do for the entire Mason community.

Deerfield Township Planning for the Future

Happily, residents of the township agree: Deerfield Township is an alluring place to live, work, and play. We have warm and welcoming neighborhoods and superior schools. We have a booming business district and prominent parkland throughout the township. We have grown into a premier destination for visitors and businesses. As time progresses, growth continues bringing new challenges; these challenges are opportunities to shine. As trustees, our mission is to create a bright future for your family (We want you to love living in Deerfield!) while we balance the economic challenges of our business community. To accomplish community-orientated goals, the Deerfield Township Board of Trustees will focus our monthly Work Sessions in 2023 on creating strategies that enrich your future.

You will recall that the township’s most recent Comprehensive Plan update, “Becoming Deerfield – Your Voice, Our Future” was adopted in 2021. The purpose of our Comprehensive Plan was to articulate the long-range vision, goals, and executable strategies through community feedback to enhance the quality, economic vitality, and sustainability of the township. With long-term goals set for the next several years, the Board of Trustees’ approval process for short-term community-orientated goals commences in the fourth quarter of every year. The November and December Work Sessions focused on operational budgets, capital improvement projects, and infrastructure for 2023.

The Board of Trustees spent our January 17 Work Session focusing on Economic Development. Our Economic Development Director presented goals and objectives for 2023. As a bustling township with a significant daytime population brought here daily through employment opportunities, we explored meaningful and attractive incentives for current and future businesses. We discussed how other communities

approach the same challenges and establish a clear direction for our business attraction and retention program. We leaned into redevelopment, community marketing, and workforce development as other important aspects of our development programming.

The Board of Trustees will spend our February 21 Work Session prioritizing the request for additional School Resource Offices in the Kings Local School District. Currently, in collaboration with KLSD, the township financially supports three SROs. Public safety is a priority for the Board of Trustees; as such, we will continue to evaluate deputy staffing with the Warren County Sherriff

The Board of Trustees will spend our March 21 Work Session discussing various proposals to update the Zoning Resolution (a.k.a. Zoning Code) for Deerfield Township. A Zoning Code controls the ways in which the land can be developed and what purposes the zoned land can serve. Historically, zoning has been viewed as a means to preserve the safety and health of a community. This is the next step in the community planning process to address the changing needs of our community. The Trustees will be evaluating the various types of uses throughout Deerfield, to ensure we don’t have an oversaturation of any one type.

The aforementioned planning meetings ensure that the trustees are providing services and amenities that our community desires, while maintaining focus on the holistic health and sustainability of our township. In closing, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to invite you to join us! Our meetings are held twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays. Public comment is reserved for the first Tuesday of the month, and all meetings are open to the public. We look forward to hearing from you, seeing you, and engaging with you!

Ask an Inspector

Have you ever wondered why firefighters cut holes in the roof of a house on fire? Or why the fire engine responds on EMS calls with an ambulance? Do you have fire code questions or fire prevention questions you would like answered? Ask an inspector will give you the chance to get your questions answered and provide safety education to the Mason community. Please email your questions to firesafety@masonoh. org and your question may be in an upcoming article. The Mason Fire Department continues to educate the community to make it safer for all of us.

“Why do firefighters cut a hole in the roof of a house that is on fire?”

Cutting a hole in the roof serves multiple purposes. It allows trapped heat, smoke, and poisonous gases to exit the structure, which makes the atmosphere safer for anyone trapped in the fire. By doing so it also gives firefighters additional time to reach those trapped and get them to safety. It helps prevent a smoke explosion, commonly referred to as a backdraft, which occurs when a fire starved of oxygen suddenly receives the fresh air it needs to freely burn after starved of it. The “vent hole” releases those trapped gases and soot which could ignite causing the smoke explosion itself. A “vent hole” creates a safer environment for trapped occupants and the firefighters.

100 WHO CARE

GATHER. VOTE. GIVE. It really is that simple!

“I am trying to create an emergency escape plan for my family. What would you recommend as the best meeting place? I was thinking our mailbox.”—Tiffany

Your mailbox is not a bad choice but keep in mind, fires never seem to happen when the weather is nice. It seems like fires occur on the coldest, rainiest nights of the year, when the wind is blowing extra hard, or when it is over 100° in the shade and 90% humidity. If your home is on fire, there are going to be a lot of first responders arriving in large trucks, hauling heavy hoses and tools towards your door. You may want to meet at your neighbor’s mailbox or their porch, especially if it is covered. Try to plan with your neighbors ahead of time and if there is an emergency, maybe they can come to your home and in return you can go to theirs to protect yourself from the elements.

If you do choose to use your own mailbox, once everyone is gathered, have them move a safe distance away and wait for the first responders to arrive. One adult, or older child should meet the first arriving truck and let them know if everyone is safely out or if there are people or pets trapped inside. Then, if possible, give a brief description of how to get to the room the trapped occupants were last known to be in, to expedite the firefighters’ search and rescue effort. Remember, we do not know your home as well as you do, so any help you can provide cuts down on the time to rescue and improves the trapped occupant’s chance of survival. The most important factor in choosing a meeting place is that everyone knows where it is.

Are you are looking for a way to give back to your local community? Join 100+ Who Care of Warren County! Together, the members of this giving circle have donated over $32,000 to local nonprofit organizations.

100+ Who Care of Warren County is a giving circle dedicated to making life better for all Warren County residents through a quarterly donation to a Warren County nonprofit organization ($100/ adult, $25/student), and our online giving platform on Grapevine makes it easy!

Two or three local charities give a five-minute presentation each quarter. Members who are present (in-person and online) vote, and one is selected to receive the donation for that quarter. Organizations up for consideration must serve Warren County and are nominated by group members; the idea is to keep it local and provide an impact we can see. Donation recipients in 2022 were Luke 5 Adventures, Lebanon Impact Club, Friends of Warren County Park District, and Family Promise of Warren County.

Mason Veterans Memorial 20th Anniversary

The Mason Veterans Memorial was dedicated in 2003 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. The City will be investing in improvements to the Mason Veterans Memorial as part of its anniversary. This work includes new landscaping, lighting, concrete work, replacement of memorial bricks, and the addition of the Space Force monument as well as a new Gold Star Families Memorial and Purple Heart Memorial. As part of celebrating 20 years, construction is anticipated to be completed by Veterans Day this fall.

The memorial bricks at the Memorial were laid on a bed of sand, which has resulted in bricks settling causing a potential trip hazard. The bricks have also become faded and there is a need for additional space allocated specifically for Veterans directly in front of the military branch monument stones. The pavers were removed in January, and a new concrete base and new pavers are anticipated to be installed in February. New installation will prevent future settling or lifting and provide additional areas for memorial bricks. Concrete will also be slated for the base of the Gold Star Families and Purple Heart memorials as well as a larger monument stone for the Never Forget Garden. Additional lighting and landscaping for the new monument stones are also included in the Veterans Memorial improvements.

Stay tuned to imaginemason.org for upcoming events and activities celebrating the 20th anniversary of the memorial.

Warren County Conservation In Action series

The mission to promote the wise stewardship of natural resources through partnerships, education, and technical assistance is one to which the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is proudly dedicated. To help achieve this, Warren County SWCD is excited to engage with community members through the Conservation In Action (CIA) series. Conservation In Action aims to educate and encourage residents to take conservation steps at home to contribute to this overall mission of the District. After learning about a conservation topic, people will be given the tools and guidance to then implement that conservation practice on their own property. Conservation In Action programs also support larger county wide initiatives implemented by Warren County SWCD such as:

• Operation Rain Garden: a municipal grant available for rain garden installation in public spaces

• Annual Tree Sale: sale of native shrubs, trees, and pollinator seed packs (ordering begins in January)

• Caesar Creek Collaborative: improves watershed health through conservation management

Past conservation workshop eff orts from Warren County SWCD have focused on soil health, rain barrels, traditional composting, and rain gardens. For 2023, the District will continue to provide these types of workshops while also expanding offerings to include native plants, pollinator plots, bat house construction and installation, and vermicomposting (composting using live worms). Some of these conservation practices, like rain barrel and rain

JUST A REMINDER— TOWNSHIP POLICIES ON RECREATIONAL VEHICLES AND HIGH GRASS

With warm weather comes opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. While all of us look forward to this time of the year, it is important to also be a good neighbor. As grass in your yard grows this spring, it is very important to periodically maintain your yard and ensure that the grass does not exceed eighteen (18) inches in height. Keeping our yards well maintained contributes to the appearance of our neighborhoods and keeps Deerfield Township one

garden installation, help to slow down stormwater runoff, thus improving water quality in our local waterways. Others, like the pollinator plots and bat house workshops, aim to help our local wildlife populations. And of course, there is synergy between these practices. For instance, planting native plants can help wildlife, improve soil health, and slow down stormwater runoff. CIA programs will occur throughout the year in 2023, starting this spring with vermicomposting in February and rain barrels in May.

Vermicomposting harnesses the natural ability of earthworms to break down and recycle food nutrients back into the soil. Food waste is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and composting helps to keep that breakdown out of landfills. Participants of this workshop will learn the basics of vermicomposting and then build their own vermicompost bin and receive worms to take home and get started.

Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later use on lawns, gardens, or indoor plants. Collecting roof runoff in rain barrels is helpful in times of drought and reduces the amount of water that flows from your property. Rain barrels slow down stormwater runoff, reducing pollution and erosion. Workshop participants construct their own rain barrel to take home and install.

Makino Campaign Day Highlights Success at Makino Park

Mason corporate partner Makino, Inc., and their employees recently celebrated the success of Makino Park during Makino Foundation’s Campaign Day. Mason is home to the North American headquarters for Makino with Makino’s $2 billion parent company located in Tokyo, Japan. City of Mason officials were honored to attend Campaign Day; historically an annual celebration and opportunity to announce charitable donations proposed and funded by Makino employees. City of Mason leadership also provided an overview of the next phase of Makino Park to employees: the adaptive ballfields. The Mason Challenger League is partnering with the City of Mason as well as the Mason Parks & Recreation Foundation to help make the adaptive ballfields at Makino Park a reality. Campaign Day was an opportunity to outline how the two proposed adaptive ballfields will be fully accessible, barrier free fields including surfaces and spaces that allow athletes with mobility issues to easily navigate the field and dugouts—bringing inclusivity to the game of baseball and adding yet another opportunity within Makino Park for families of all abilities to come together.

In 2019, the Mason Parks & Recreation Foundation were the recipients of a significant Makino Foundation and company award that facilitated the finalization of phases one and two of Makino Park including the Common Ground Playground and FCC Field at Makino Park. Mason City Council honored Makino’s spirit of generosity and mutual commitment to serve the community by designating the park as Makino Park, an inclusive recreational space. The park has since become a regional destination and distinctive asset for the entire community. The name Makino has become a household name because of the popularity of this inclusive park.

At the core of Mason’s economic development activity is recruiting and retaining business partners whose missions align with

From Warren County Imagination Library

As we welcome the renewal of spring, it is time for a reminder to share the word about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Our Warren County affiliate has now enrolled 2 of every 3 children ages birth to 5th birthday to receive a FREE age-appropriate book every month! That means more children are building a personal library and hearing stories. This all translates into preparedness for literacy learning by the time they enter kindergarten. You can help continue this amazing growth by sharing with others the enrollment site www.ohioimaginationlibrary.org

Your local library is one of the reasons that WC Imagination Library is so successful! They have been a financial and friendly enrollment partner to this county’s young children and their families. Please give them a big THANK YOU when you stop by.

This winter, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio sent out literacy boxes to 5,648 partners across the state. The purpose is to share included literacy information with families and children. Six primary organizations who frequently work with children received these boxes

the City’s commitment to a culture of wellness and vision for providing quality services and amenities. Makino Park’s impact throughout the region is a tribute to the long-term successful outcome of commitment to this strategy.

Myriad Genetics Expands Genomics Footprint For Precision Medicine On Mason Municipal Campus

Myriad Genetics, one of Mason’s leading biohealth companies specializing in precision medicine, recently completed an expansion doubling current R&D lab space and capacity. This expansion, located in the lower level of the City’s Municipal Center, secures the genomics operations for GeneSight in Mason long-term. Believed to be the only CAP Accredited CLIA Certified Lab located on a municipal campus in the United States, it is a testament to the creative approach regularly applied by the City of Mason, which is driving renewed investment by med tech and companies so hotly courted by the West Coast.

GeneSight is a flagship Myriad product and is a pharmacogenomic test that analyzes how genes may affect medication outcomes. Results can inform doctors about how a person may break down or respond to certain medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions.

Predicated on the increasing demand for mental health diagnostics and solutions in recent years, the 5,000-square-foot buildout provides additional infrastructure critical to scale up capacity and provide business continuity. This past fall, the company had a milestone achievement testing over 2 million patients and is on track for continued exponential growth in the coming years. This growth is clear validation of the expanded adoption of pharmacogenetic testing as a data driven approach with actionable information in treatment decisions.

Mason initially recruited Assurex Health to the Municipal campus in 2010 to secure their growth and in 2016 Myriad Genetics acquired Assurex. Since that time, the company has expanded six times within the City.

A top priority to the City of Mason is to attract and grow precision medicine companies like Myriad Genetics. The continued re-investment and re-commitment to the City by companies like Myriad Genetics provides a compelling story of successful partnership to similar companies looking to site a new R&D lab in a collaborative location.

Warren County Foundation Celebrates 25 years of Helping Impact Our Community

The Warren County Foundation (WCF) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022 by delivering its mission to enhance the quality of life in Warren County by encouraging and facilitating charitable giving.

In 2023, WCF is striving to expand its impact throughout the county with donors and nonprofit, government, school, and business partners.

WCF SERVES DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MASON, AND THE WARREN COUNTY REGION THROUGH THE FOLLOWING SERVICES:

1. Providing a variety of fund options to assist individuals and organizations in supporting the charities of their choice.

2. Managing all backroom responsibilities for charitable giving including accounting needs, processing of gifts, investments, reporting, and annual audits.

3. Establishing and managing endowment and capital funds for nonprofit organizations and foundations.

4. Addressing community needs by making grants to nonprofit organizations meeting those needs.

5. Bringing Warren County organizations and individuals together to discuss issues of mutual interest.

RECENT EXAMPLES OF WCF’S IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY:

• Launched the Warren County Imagination Library program in 2020 as the fiscal agent and organizer

• Coordinated $300,000+ in COVID relief grants for nonprofit organizations in Warren County

• Established a new Environmental Forum as one of 175+ funds supported through partnerships with individuals and organizations

COMMUNITY AND DONOR IMPACT IN DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MASON, AND WARREN COUNTY:

As a small nonprofit that relies on a patchwork of funding to support our services in the community, the Warren County Foundation grants have been instrumental in supporting the Child Advocacy Center of Warren County’s mission to provide a team response to child abuse and neglect through intervention and education. As a recipient of several funding opportunities, we have been able to increase our outreach awareness about child abuse throughout all of Warren County.

—Amy Fornshell, Manager, Child Advocacy Center of Warren County

The Yost family has been able to enhance our charitable giving locally in the Mason and Deerfield Township area and in other areas with the support of the Warren County Foundation for 25+ years. We believe in the strength of having a strong local community foundation to impact our region and we encourage donors to utilize this valuable resource.

—Dick and Jane Yost, Yost Family Fund

Mason Police Department K9s

The City of Mason is proud to have three canine officers as part of the City’s Police Department. Each K9 officer is assigned a Mason Police Officer as its handler. Prior to being assigned a handler and joining the Mason Police Department, all K9s receive 8 to 10 weeks of intense obedience and specialized training before becoming a certified K9 officer. After the initial certification, K9s are required to complete monthly trainings and yearly recertification. All K9 officers in the City of Mason have received specialized training to assist in human trafficking and detection, criminal apprehension, building and area searches, as well as evidence location. Two of the K9 officers, Brus and Orion, are trained to detect narcotics and K9 officer Banshee is trained to detect explosives.

While the City of Mason’s K9 officers are highly skilled assets to the Mason Police Department, their most important role is community interaction and outreach. Often you will see Mason’s K9 officers interacting with residents at community events or participating in demonstrations for various audiences such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, D.A.R.E. classes, or even making guest appearances at Mason Community Center. The K9 program is an excellent way for the Mason Police Department to build relationships with community members. If you are a Mason organization interested in scheduling a K9 demonstration at your next event or activity, please contact the Mason Police Department at 513.229.8560.

BIG DOG’S PIZZA

Big Dogs Pizza will fill you and your family up with good food in a restaurant that treats you like family. The owner, Chris, moved to Mason from Michigan when he was 12 years old, and he loves what he does. Chris was able to give us some insight on what makes Big Dog’s Pizza in Mason your go-to restaurant for tasty and fresh meals.

Tell me a little bit about the atmosphere at Big Dog’s Pizza in Mason.

Big Dog’s is casual and welcoming to all. It’s family-friendly and a place to enjoy good food and drinks with your friends. One thing we pride ourselves on is customers always want to say goodbye before leaving, even first-time customers. People see us as friends and friendly. We provide an atmosphere that invites people to come back.

What is “Mason Style” pizza?

It’s the opportunity to combine great food with great atmosphere unique to Mason—the best pizza in Mason, for Mason.

The crust looks delicious! Tell me about your pizza.

We make our pizzas fresh. Our crust is thin, but not too thin and more flaky or crispy than doughy. You can create your own Big Dog’s Pizza or choose from one of our specialty pizzas like The Veggie, The Hawaiian, The Bacon Cheeseburger, The Mac Dog, and more.

Besides pizza, your menu offers a variety of options. What’s your most popular food item?

Our wings are an easy favorite. They are roasted, not fried. Not only are they big and meaty, but they are also crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. You’ll have an option between six different sauces on the side.

24 CenterPoint Spring 2023
Downtown Mason is a growing, eclectic mix of businesses creating a vibrant area for residents and visitors to our region. We encourage you to come explore Mason’s downtown as we profile the company owners and entrepreneurs who help make Downtown Mason thrive.

Residents may have tried your pizza from your food truck at local events. You can also bring food truck pizza to businesses as well. What types of items do you offer?

The food truck menu is abridged slightly from the main menu to adjust to the event. You may not see a few specialty pizzas, hoagies, or calzones due to the baking process, but we can offer full pizzas depending on the situation. Look for us at more Mason events this year.

I’ve heard you have creative birthday parties. What does that entail?

Yes, we host birthday parties for youth and teens. We offer a party where children get to make their own pizzas in the kitchen. They literally create their own individual pizzas. We can adjust the party to the family, whether that’s reserving the place after hours for teens or hosting a build-your-own birthday for 6 year olds.

We are part of the Come Together Mason e-gift card program, which offers a great way to try new things in Mason. We invite you to come in and check us out!

CITY OF MASON MANTA RAY CHAMPIONS

The City of Mason Manta Rays Champions is an inclusive swim group added in 2022 to the Mason Manta Rays swim team. Partnering with Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCDD), Champions provides a swim team setting including swim meet experiences through exhibition events at City of Mason Manta Ray Invitationals and WCDD Special Olympics. The program consists of two sessions, one from September through November and another from December through February.

The Champions group practices one night a week with focus on freestyle, backstroke, and competitive starts from the blocks. Practices also

went to Sycamore Community Schools before attending college at UC and Mountain State University, graduating with a degree in Administration in Criminal Justice. Lt. »Management of in-car cruiser videos

»Other internal paperwork

The addition of the records clerk position was important because it provided the citizens of Deerfield Township a consistent point of contact who could process their requests at our local post. It made our ability to process latent print requests from citizens a more efficient and accessible process. The position provides a lot of supporting roles for the deputies to reduce their time in the office and maximize their time in the community.

Formerly, Kautz worked as a Correctional Officer for the Warren County Sheriff ’s Office.

Kautz served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Seaman/Fireman. She has four children, three of which are serving in the military. Kautz is a resident of Warren County.

Each practice ends with a social setting and a snack, providing opportunities for athletes to bond with their teammates. Through the Champions program, USA Swimming officials attend a practice to help athletes understand the whistle commands of the starting process. This helps athletes acclimate themselves to a swim meet setting, gaining confidence in how to start a race.

Champions were highlighted at two Manta Ray Fall Invitationals in 2022, where they were celebrated by all Manta Ray athletes throughout their races. Senior level athletes for the City of Mason Manta Rays paired with the Champions, walking the swimmers to the starting blocks and presenting them with ribbons at the conclusion

of their races.

Each session includes team building events such as a holiday-themed parties and end of session celebrations where each athlete receives individual accolades in front of their parents/ caregivers as well as being awarded a certificate of excellence. Learn more at imaginemason.org.

For more than 40 years, the National Art Honor Society programs have provided national recognition and opportunities for students who have exhibited outstanding artwork, scholarship, and service in the visual arts.

The Kings High School Administration, KHS Art Teacher Mrs. Carrie Cooke, and the Kings Local School District are proud to congratulate the induction of 18 members to the inaugural year of the Kings National Art Honor Society.

Eligible members must maintain a 90 average in a regular art class and maintain a B cumulative average in all other subjects. El- igible students will also exhibit strength of character, a strong work ethic, and a desire to give back to their community.

NAHS offers opportunities for national recognition, scholarships, leadership experience, and connectivity to 50,000+ outstanding art students worldwide

Several members of the newly formed Kings High School Art National Honor Society (ANHS) painted three fire hydrants around the KHS/KJH campus.

KHS Art Teacher Carrie Cooke took the idea to the Deerfield Township Fire Chief, and he gave permission to paint the hydrants. She was excited to give the ANHS students the opportunity to showcase their amazing artwork in a unique and creative way. She says, “I hope that the students, parents, and visitors that come to Kings enjoy the little extra add color added to our school campus.”

Public Works Director Highfill Graduates From Leadership Warren County

As one of the fastest-growing counties in Ohio, Warren County faces some unique challenges. Leadership Warren County (LWC) came into existence as a way to address these issues and create a unique identity for our region. Addressing the needs of constantly growing community requires that individuals be educated and encouraged to assume leadership roles. LWC was established to challenge and enable individuals to fulfill these functions and guide our neighborhoods, businesses, organizations, and county into the future. The program’s goal is to create a network of informed decision-makers.

A recent graduate of this prestigious program is Deerfield Township Public Works Director Billy Highfill. His LWC class started in March 2022 and recently concluded in November. “I enjoyed every aspect of Leadership Warren County,” says Director Highfill. “Even though I have been a resident of Warren County for 47 years, I learned a number of new things about our community.”

Along with his classmates, Highfill visited a number of historical places. His class participated in a number of seminars and presentations on issues facing Warren County. Highfill also made numerous new professional connections that will help him with his responsibilities for the Township. “I am blessed to say that these relationships have become

lifelong friendships,” he adds. Highfill thanked the leaders of his class, Arla Tannehill and Bill Thornton, for their help over the past several months. “Their love for the county and dedication to LWC truly made this a once in a lifetime experience.”

Congratulations Director Highfill and your classmates on this outstanding accomplishment! Warren County will be a much better place thanks to your collective leadership.

It’s All About the Heart

Cleveland Clinic Affiliation, Hospital Expansion Demonstrate TriHealth Dedication to Heart Care

Anew affiliation between TriHealth and Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute will further elevate heart and vascular care in and around the Cincinnati region. It is the latest advance in the TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute’s commitment to caring for the hearts of the Tristate’s more than 2 million residents.

“We want to be the best at getting better,” says Asimul Ansari, MD, Medical Director of the TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute. “We’ve made a large commitment over the past 10 years, and it’s evident on our campus. This affiliation with Cleveland Clinic [Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute] is the next step in that commitment.”

Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute will share its best practices for heart care, giving TriHealth patients access to the expertise of Cleveland Clinic physicians, as well as the latest technologies and innovations in heart care.

TriHealth’s heart specialists will be able to consult with Cleveland Clinic physicians for second opinions and case reviews.

“In our daily medical practice, this affiliation gives us an additional focus on quality and the opportunity to develop newer, innovative procedures,” Dr. Ansari says. “If there are patients who need a very advanced level of care that we can’t provide, we can count on them for rare cases.”

Suma Thomas, MD, Vice Chairman of Strategic Operations, Cleveland Clinic Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute notes, “Cleveland Clinic has identified TriHealth as the premier cardiac program in the Cincinnati area, with a long history of excellence in heart care. This affiliation is a collaboration that enables both organizations to optimize cardiac care for all patients.”

MORE EXPERTS, MORE SPACE

Bethesda North Hospital recently opened a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab, giving TriHealth nine catheterization labs and procedure rooms. TriHealth is also expanding the hospital’s first-floor cardiovascular ICU with anticipated completion in early 2023. The new center housing these services will be named the Harold and Eugenia Thomas Heart and Vascular Center in recognition of their transformational $10 million gift in support of the project.

“The physical blueprint of the center is designed to help work flow in real time,” Dr. Ansari says. “Multiple subspecialists can easily be in close contact with each other. Cardiovascular specialists will be able to collaborate with interventional, surgical and vascular colleagues to provide optimal care for patients.”

TriHealth has brought on additional medical experts to treat advanced heart failure with ventricular assist devices. The center also has a team to care for acutely ill patients with cardiac shock, and electrophysiologists who are performing the region’s most innovative procedures for atrial fibrillation.

“We’re also expanding our capabilities to do minimally invasive procedures such as valve replacements and valve clipping,” Dr. Ansari says. “We’re doing hemodynamic imaging remotely and performing high level CT and MRI readings of heart structure and function.”

Dr. Ansari concludes, “If you’ve spent any time at our Bethesda North campus, you’ll see the level of commitment our organization has for heart care and health care.”
