We’re thrilled to have you here for our 25th annual production of A Christmas Carol!
The Citadel’s A Christmas Carol tradition began in 2000 with Tom Wood’s celebrated adaptation. That production played for 19 consecutive years at the Citadel! In 2019, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Christmas Carol , the Citadel commissioned local playwright David van Belle to write a new adaptation. This is our 6th year of David’s exquisitely written adaptation, and our 25th year of A Christmas Carol!
The Citadel’s production of A Christmas Carol is a truly Edmonton way to celebrate the holidays. So many Edmontonians consider our production of A Christmas Carol an important part of their family holiday tradition. We believe that’s what theatre is all about – the joy of bringing people together, young and old, to celebrate and share.
We are also very proud to continue our relationship with Edmonton’s Food Bank. We hope very much you will donate on your way out of the theatre after the show, to help those less fortunate and keep our community strong.
Our immense thanks to the incredible work of the hundreds of local actors, designers, craftspeople, technicians, stage managers and Citadel staff who have lovingly brought this production together. And thanks to you for making the Citadel a part of your holiday celebrations, we’re so glad you’re here!
From all of us at the Citadel, we wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

PS – We have more fantastic productions ahead in the new year, including: Disney’s Frozen and A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The '70s Musical! We hope you’ll join us for all of the great shows planned for our 2024/25 season!
We wish to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Treaty No. 6 territory and a traditional meeting ground and home of the First Nations, including both the treaty signatories –Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stony and Cree-Iroquois – as well as other Indigenous peoples, such as the Blackfoot and Métis, who occupy this land. We extend our appreciation for the opportunity to live, create and perform on this territory.

Proud sponsor of the Citadel Theatre’s Pay What You Choose program—making the arts accessible for everyone to enjoy.
The Citadel Theatre is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for artists, audience members, and staff.
As part of our ongoing commitment to making our building and programming as accessible as possible, the Citadel Theatre has created new resources on our website (citadeltheatre.com/accessibility):
• Upcoming Accessible Performances in our 2024/25 Season, funded by the Edmonton Community Foundation. This includes Relaxed Performances, ASL Interpreted Performances, Captioned Performances, Touch Tours, and Audio Described Performances.
• Wayfinding pathway videos to prepare for your visit to our building.
• A 3D Building Tour and venue photographs to experience any of our public spaces before you arrive.
• Seat photos and measurements to ensure a comfortable experience.
• Maps to help you find your way around.
• A Visual Guide of the Citadel building that provides plain language descriptions and information about coming to a show.
• Accessible transportation, parking and washroom information
• Details about Access Resources such as Hearing Loop devices and sensory kits.
• An acknowledgement of individuals working within disabilitycentred performing arts initiatives in Edmonton.
Please reach out to our Accessibility Coordinator, Kristi Hansen, with any questions or suggestions you may have in regards to Accessibility at the Citadel Theatre. khansen@citadeltheatre.com
These talented artists are working throughout the season assisting our Mainstage directors by contributing to the productions artistically,
doing research, observing and learning new skills and receiving mentorship from senior artists from Edmonton, Alberta, and across the country. For more information on these artists or the Mainstage Assistant Director Program - including details on submissions for the 2025/26 Seasonplease visit our website!
