We love developing new work at the Citadel. Albertan playwright, Arun Lakra, was part of the Citadel’s Playwright’s Lab in 2022 where he worked on Heist. The script then had its Canadian premiere at Vertigo Theatre in Calgary last season. We’re thrilled to present this new production in partnership with our friends at the Grand Theatre in London, Ontario. It can often take years to bring a new play to production, and in many cases, after a new work premieres it struggles to find a second home. It has been so exciting to see the trajectory of this exciting new work as it moved from workshop to the production at Vertigo to the large stages of the Grand and Citadel. It’s a chance for Arun to continue to refine his script and for director Haysam Kadri to imagine how this story lives on a larger stage. We’re certain this is an Albertan script that you’ll see on many Canadian stages in the coming years.
Jessie & Daryl
Arun gave himself an exciting challenge. Inspired by heist films like Ocean’s Eleven, he set out to imagine how that genre of storytelling could live on stage. And he’s done an incredible job of it! With plot twists, double-crosses and lasers! It’s easy to see why audiences have responded so enthusiastically to this new play. We know you’ll love it!
Thanks so much for joining us. Enjoy the show!
Daryl Cloran Jessie van Rijn Artistic Director Executive Director

The Citadel engages, under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement, professional artists who are members of the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association.
Production personnel for the Citadel Theatre are members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E).
*Indicated designers on this production are represented by the Associated Designers of Canada, IATSE Local ADC659.
Heist was originally commissioned and developed by the Bloomington Playwrights Project, Chad Rabinovitz, Producing Artistic Director. It received additional development from the Citadel Theatre Playwright’s Lab in 2022.
Heist received additional development support from The Blacklist Warby Parker Vision Grant.
Heist received its World Premiere with Vertigo Theatre, under the Artistic Direction of Jack Grinhaus in Calgary, Alberta, in February of 2024. It was directed by Haysam Kadri.
Heist is produced by arrangement with Kensington Literary Representation, 34 St. Andrew Street, Toronto, ON, M5T 1K6, kensingtonlit@rogers.com.
There’s magic in the air at the Citadel. Special effects and stage illusions make productions like Heist, Frozen and A Christmas Carol unforgettable experiences. When theatrical elements like lighting, sound effects and intricate staging work together to create an illusion, the effect is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Prior to seeing Heist , our Students Club participants worked with local magician and circus artist, Jay Flair, to learn about flawlessly executing stage magic.
Jay Flair is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist who is familiar with a wide range of audiences and performance styles including busking, solo stage shows, adult-only shows and children’s parties. Her acts, from circus stunts to sleight of hand, use her experiences in life and she strives to be inclusive to all who may find themselves in her audience. Jay is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat!

Little Women & Good Wives by
Louisa May Alcott
Adapted for the stage by Jordi Mand
Directed by Jenna Rodgers
The March sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy, navigate childhood to adulthood while facing the trials of life in 1860s Massachusetts. Struggling to balance societal pressures and expectations with their own hopes and dreams, the sisters are united by the bonds of family, love and loyalty. This classic coming-of-age story, adapted for the stage by Canadian playwright Jordi Mand is a heartwarming tale filled with hope, adventure, heartbreak and love.
The Citadel Theatre is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for artists, audience members, and staff.
