PESHAWAR: As many as six security officials were killed and another nine injured after militants attacked FC barracks at Shamshato in outskirts of Peshawar on Wednesday night. The officials confirmed that three rooms of the barracks and two vehicles were completely destroyed. According to details, dozens of militants carrying sophisticated weapons attacked the FC Fort at Shamshato in Urmar area of Peshawar. The militants fired rockets and later opened fire. They also pelted the officials with grenades. Peshawar Rural Police Superintendent Shafiullah Khan said that six FC personnel were killed in the attack and several others injured. He claimed to have inflicted heavy losses on the militants. The local people said that the encounter between the militants and security forces continued for several hours. Fresh contingents were also summoned from Peshawar. The fort is on the boundary between Peshawar and Frontier Region at Shasmshato Afghan refugee camp. The camp is a stronghold of Gulbadin Hekmatyar’s Hizb-e-Islami. The police and FC had launched joint operations in 2009 and 2010 and killed a large number of militants. However, the area has become a hotbed of violence for the last several months.

Silvia’s method is to finish one painting in one sitting; the session time is just so right for the child’s span of attention. I went to meet her especially to have her recommend to parents on ways to engage the children in art work at home. This being the Summer vacation period, parents are hard pressed to come up with ways to keep the child engaged and happy. Every day that the school is not working, parents should have some time devoted to art work says Ms Silvia, because “art work is interesting, it is the profound expression of being human, of using the human creativity and imagination. Art provides the connection with our own selves, with nature and with the universe”. She continues, “if you deprive the child of engagement with the arts, then you are setting the child up for problems in the future, problems like depression, lack of sense of appreciation, inability to spend time by one’s own self as well as lack the joy of throwing yourself completely into the task in a way that involves the body and spirit. It is the most easy thing for parents to let the child be engrossed with electronic gadgets, the child will be busy for hours, either watching movies, playing some form of games or scouting the internet. But, the long term results are quite harmful for the child. S/he may become hyper-active or lazy and lethargic, irritable and unsocial. Hence, Ms. Sylvia implores parents to take the effort and not only provide for art stuff to children, and also be a part of the whole process. Children respect that form of engagement where they find the adults also engaged in it along with them, otherwise they start thinking about it as ‘baby stuff’. “Every Child is an Artist, the Problem is how to Remain an Artist once s/he Grows Up”, so said Pablo Picasso, the great modern artist. Ms Silvia suggests, “Do art with the children, expose them to different art forms, set an example yourself, watch documentaries on art, look at

the books on art, listen to the stories of the artists, look at their illustrations and above all visit art galleries together. Make all this family activity”. Setting up an art corner at home is easy, says Ms. Silvia. Create a surface of paper, cloth, wood sheet or simply use the dining table top directly. Use acrylics as it is non-toxic, bright, dries quickly and washes away easily yet gives scope for a lot of possibilities. Use sponges, thick brushes, finger tips, fingers, palms, feet, thick crayons, canvas boards, bottles of Tempara paint, charcoal, thick chalk etc. Get creative and make this a fun activity. Focus on colors and their effects as they mix and merge, feel the textures as you paint, admire the light effect and talk about what you feel and think as you do. That is the important point; the sense of togetherness. Children love to paint rainbows, the sun and such individual entities, that is their way of expressing their own identity, they are drawing attention as if to say, “Look at me, I am an independent entity too”. Children also love geometric shapes, shapes of animal faces, mountains, trees etc references from nature and so as parents we can initiate with suggestions for these, and then let the child’s imagination work its own way.

Albert Einstien said, “Imagination Is More Important than Knowledge. Imagination will Take You Everywhere”. Ms. Silvia was exposed to art from a very young age. She grew up with her famous artist uncle in Mexico and so art was all around her. She continued her education in Art in Japan and has been teaching art to children as well as adults ever since. She joined the Artists Alliance of Sugar Land in 2010 and has her own studio there. She also teaches Spanish both in the Montessori’s that she works at as well as in her own studio. She has four children and she loves all children to distraction. She says, “Children are my bosses, I identify with kids, I respect them and I take my lead from them”. Some of her other profound statements are: “Art is an activity or what there is inside of every human being”, “Art is a way of communication and a way to learn more about ourselves and the world as well” and “To Be an Artist is to Give to Others What is there in your Soul”. mysterious connection? The new novel “Sisterland” by best-selling author Curtis Sittenfeld tells the story of twin girls who have a psychic connection. Though it’s a fictional story, it draws upon a common belief that twins share some sort of unexplained mental or spiritual connection. It’s an intriguing idea, but what’s the truth behind it? About one out of every 30 babies born in the United States is a twin. Identical twins are of particular interest to scientific researchers because they help control for genetic variation between patients in studies. It’s not surprising that identical twins share much in common, since they have the same DNA. Scientists know that what makes us who we are — including, to some degree, our intelligence, personal preferences, and so on — is part nature and part nurture, a combination of heredity and environment. Stories about mysterious connections between twins — and especially identical twins — are ancient and legion. Some say twins share some psychic connection, or even feel each other’s pain. There are stories of twins who happened to give birth to baby daughters on the same day, completely by chance, and twins who were separated at birth but reunited years or decades later to find that they both married spouses with the same name and drive identical cars. Psychic powers have never been scientifically proven to exist, and psychic twins are no exception. However as we move way from science toward anecdotal evidence, we find intriguing parallels between twins. Playing the Odds While such stories, when confirmed, are amazing and intriguing, it’s important to remember that such reports are anecdotes cherry-picked and highlighted specifically because they are examples of remarkable coincidence. Just by random chance, some pairs of siblings — twins or not — will end up leading lives that are parallel in some significant ways. For example many mental and physical diseases run in families, so of course they may struggle with similar health issues. Consider the likelihood that twins who were separated at birth — or perhaps estranged for years — may end up independently marrying a lawyer in his mid-40s named Steve. At first glance that may seem very unlikely to happen just by chance; surely there’s some psychic or spiritual connection that guided the women to similar mates? However a closer look at statistics shows that while such a coincidence is incredibly unlikely for any particular set of twins, it is actually quite likely for some set of twins somewhere. The same prin-

ciple applies to lottery winners: The chance of any given person winning the lottery is incredibly small, perhaps hundreds of millions to one. But the chance of some person winning the lottery is 100 percent. There are finite probable pools of significant characteristics in all our lives. There are only so many boy’s names, only so many careers, and so on. The likelihood of any woman, twin or not, marrying a lawyer named Steve — or Stephen, or Stefan, etc. — is far higher than the likelihood of that same woman marrying a professional magician named Adolph. People also tend to marry within their racial and socioeconomic class, further narrowing the pool of likely mates. Other hidden factors also contribute to these otherwise extraordinary coincidences. For example, American male twins in their 40s are more likely to be married to a woman named Jennifer than to a woman of any other name. This has nothing to do with the men being twins, because the same is true for non-twin men in their 40s. Nor does it have anything to do with any supernatural bias or attraction to women named Jennifer. Instead, it has everything to do with the pool of available women; Jennifer was the single most popular name for newborn American girls for every year between 1970 and 1984. More Jennifers in the population means that more men born around that same time will marry Jennifers than Joans or Jills. Are Twin Coincidence Stories Unusual? The stories of twin coincidences that make the news — and are collected in books about twins and unexplained phenomena — are, of course, the most dramatic ones. Family lore about identical twins in different states unknowingly each buying a used 1992 Honda with a bad clutch don’t make the cut. There are only a few dozen of these remarkable, seemingly inexplicable stories collected over the years, but for the sake of argument let’s round it up to 100. By one estimate there are about 100 million twins worldwide, and the number of twins being born is on the rise, due in part to the increased use of fertility drugs. So that means that over 99 percent of twins have not experienced these sorts of dramatic events and amazing coincidences. If the “twin connection” is as strong and common as often claimed — and cannot be explained merely by chance or genetic-based lifestyle choices and preferences — then we should reasonably expect millions of these amazing accounts, not a few dozen or a few hundred. Toddler falls from a five-storey building, caught by five men

QUETTA: The air remained filled with despair and remorse while the city is observing shutter down strike today. Until last night, the death toll stood at 28 but today, two more injured succumbed to their injuries, pushing the toll to 30. A case has been registered in Brewery Road police station while an investigation team has been formed that will be headed by the superintendent of police to probe the matter. Various organizations including Hazara Democratic Party, Shia Conference and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) had called for a shutter down strike to mourn the horrifying incident. Following the strike call by different organizations, many roads and markets including Alamdar Road, Jinnah Road, Hazara Town, Kirani Road, Bacha Khan intersection, Mission Road, Shahrae Iqbal, Liaquat Bazar and many more are completely shut while thin traffic was observed on the roads. The mourning families have not yet decided about

the burial, and told that the decision will be taken after consulting the seniors. However, reports said the burial is likely to take place today. Earlier, announcing a three-day mourning across the country, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Sunday night said the police, the agencies, the judiciary, and the administration could stave off tragedies like Hazara Town if they were really bent on it. “If they just solemnly pledge not to let it happen again, Pakistan will be terrorism free” MWM Punjab leadership said in a press conference held here. MWM leader Allama Abdul Khaliq Asady said it was obvious from the rampancy of terrorism in just three out of four provinces of Pakistan that it was a conspiracy far bigger than it seemed. Asady also slammed the government for inviting the terrorists for negotiations rather than dealing them a deadly blow once and for all. Paying online? Get website name right Not so long ago, there would be long queues in front of government offices of hassled bill payers. But when the banks initiated online operations, government departments followed suit. Today online bill payments have become the hot target of cyber crooks, say police "Most of the complaints we get are from middle class people who have been duped of their hardearned money in the space of a few clicks or calls," said a cyber cell officer . The most common modus operandi is making the customer use the wrong

website for making payments . Fraudsters usually play around with the name of the original website with the intent to confuse consumers. "For an authentic website, say abc.com, crooks may come up with ab.com or abc.co.in. One should be careful with the name and other details," said Pavan Duggal, a cyber law expert. 'Customer care' calls which ask consumers to reveal personal information are another hazard. A real customer care officer would never ask for passwords and PIN, and if need be, divert the call to interactive voice response, the officer added. While there has been a 46% rise in

Obama meets Mandela’s family in South Africa

US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle met family members of ailing former South African leader Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg

CAPE TOWN - The meeting on Saturday took place at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, hours after the president said he was not angling for a “photo op” with the ailing former South African president. Earlier, Obama met South African counterpart Jacob Zuma on the second leg of his three-nation Africa tour and paid tribute to the legacy of Mandela. couldn't turn down an oﬀer with SRK Looks like Shahid Kapoor has been multi-tasking on the sets of his film with Prabhu Deva The actor apparently has asked some time off from his hectic shoot schedule to rehearse his script for an upcoming awards gala that he will be hosting. Sasha had been shooting for a song sequence for Rambo Rajkumar when he was approached to host the show at Macau. A source from the sets says, `Shahid had been rehearsing his dance number from the past couple of weeks as it was his first song with Prabhu. However, when the organisers offered him the chance to co-host the show with Shah Rukh Khan, he could not turn them down. Moreover, the team of the award ceremony too was keen to have him on board and requested him to accommodate their dates.` Apparently Prabhu also agreed to let him fly off to Macau for the ceremony. He even let him practise his lines on his sets. A unithand says, `Shahid was spotted doing mock rehearsals for his part as he did not get much time to prepare. The music of director Anand.L. Rai's movie "'Raanjhanaa" has eight tracks. Since the movie is based in Benaras, composer A.R. Rahman has included the regional ﬂavour in most of the tracks. Use of a lot of instruments in all the songs is also evident.

Then there should be some discipline, which would help you reach your goals," the 46-year-old said when asked about her mantra for success. "So there has to be something you are working towards and that helps you, you have to keep moving all the time," she added. There are a lot of things for Madhuri in the pipeline. "There will be 'Gulaab Gang', 'Dedh Ishqiya.' Then 'Jhalak...' is happening. Then I have started an online dance academy and there you will see me as a dance guru. So, a lot of facets," Madhuri said. While "Gulaab Gang" is an Anubhav Sinha production, "Dedh Ishqiya" is a Vishal Bhardwaj production directed by Abhishek Chaubey.

The soundtrack kicks off with "Raanjhanaa", a high on energy number. Sung by Jaswinder Singh and Shiraz Uppal, it is not exactly a sugarcoated romantic number but its rhythmic beats make you tap your feet and you may put the song on loop. The music is powerful and gives you goosebumps. It has a bit of a classical touch to it and the singers meet the expectations of the listeners. Shreya Ghoshal's melodious voice greets the listeners in the next track "Banarasiya". With a lot of regional influence, it is soothing and soulful. The lyrics and the singer balance the song and raise the bar.

'Ghanchakkar' is one of the most unusual comedies He is a lazy lazy lad. And she is one helluva crazy Punjaban whose kookie cooking drives her sullen husband up the nearest wall. Disgust on the dining-table camouflaged in tons of table-salt, Sanju (Emraan Hashmi, pitch-perfect in his spousal indolence) would probably have gone on tolerating his wife's appalling culinary skills matched only by her hideous fashion sense, if only he didn't decide to pull off one last heist that would make him and his inept cook of a wife rich for the rest of their life. Take-home food, here we come! Oh, I forgot to tell you. . . . Hashmi plays an expert lock-picker, the kind of safe-bet who can crack safes faster than we can say 'Saif Ali Khan'. Forgetfulness comes easily in this crazily unpredictable dark comedy about an ordinary Delhi couple's life going unimaginably out-of-control when they decide to mess around with two self-styled bumbling baddies who seem to have modelled their crime life on pirated video prints of Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino crime flicks.

Really, they suck at their job. Every character in this out-of-the-box comedy is a bit of an ineffectual self-important clown. In trying hard to be cool, they end up looking like fools. And they don't even know it! Ghanchakkar is a domestic comedy that gets progressively dark and sinister. Some of the film's most riveting moments find our amnesiac hero searching for his own identity and trying to locate the trust factor in his marriage that is threatened by his lack of cogent memory. Their mutual suspicion of one another's marital integrity is delightfully irreverent and yet disturbingly relevant in today's times when distrust is a dowry gift in a majority of marriages. In their delightful love-making sequence Gupta and his astute co-writer Parvez Shiekh turn the politics of the bedroom

on its head. Hashmi appears seductively at the bedroom door wearing the nightwear that his wife has brought him. . . Underwears and condoms are shyly mentioned. What follows is funny and, er, unforgettable. The incidental characters appear unannounced. . . . an inquisitive neighbour, an over-friendly real-estate agent, a nosy mother/mother-in-law whom we only hear on the

phone, a sinister crimelord who pops out of nowhere to create an illusion of a climax, and an end-game on a local train that could have been more sharply rounded off. . . . But then all said and dumped Ghanchakkar is nothing like anything we've encountered in the genre of dark comedy. Ghanchakkar may not be every moviegoer's cup of tee-hee. The laughs are often so ominous they cloud our comic responses to the characters. For instance in the bank-heist sequence Emraan Hashmi, Rajesh Verma and Namit Das wear Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Uptal Dutt masks. In the police-identification lineup that follows three men show up in the same star-masks. `Haan, yehi teenon they, ` says the excited bank watchman. Really now!If Jessica had not been killed in Rajkumar Gupta's last film she would have died laughing watching Ghanchakkar. This comedy of arrears, monstrous arrears, is quite simply one of the most unusual comedy.

He was honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan. In 1983, in the court of King Birendra he was awarded Gorkha Dakshina Bahu by the Government of Nepal.[citation needed] He remained a leading singer of film industry along with Ahmed Rushdi. Mehdi Hassan died on 13 June 2012 after a protracted illness, in a private hospital in Karachi. Early Life Mehdi Hassan was born on 18 July 1927 in a village called Luna, Rajasthan in jhunjhunu district in India into a family of traditional musicians. He claims to be the 16th generation of hereditary musicians hailing from the Kalawant clan of musicians. Mehdi Hassan had his musical grooming from his father Ustad Azeem Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan who were both traditional Dhrupad singers. Hassan started to perform at a young age and the first concert of dhrupad and kheyal with his elder brother is reported to have been held in Fazilka Bungla,[5] near present DC House (1935) of Undivided Punjab. Balti Chicken Recipe Ingredients: 1 tsp Salt 3 tbsp Corn Oil 3 Onions, sliced 1 tsp Garlic pulp 1 tsp Ginger pulp 1 tsp Chilli powder 1 tsp Garam Masala 4 tbsp Lemon juice

4 Black Peppercorns 2 tbsp Natural Yogurt 1 inch Cinnamon stick 2 Black Cardamon pods ½ tsp Black Cumin seeds 2 Green Chillies,

chopped 3 Tomatoes, halved and sliced 1½ kg Chicken, cut into 8 pieces 2 tbsp Fresh Coriander, chopped

Method: 1-Wash and trim the chicken pieces, and set to one side. 2-Heat the oil in a large karahi or deep round-bottomed frying pan. Throw in the onions and fry until they are golden brown. Add the tomatoes and stir well. 3-Add the cinnamon stick, cardamoms, peppercorns, black cumin

seeds, ginger, garlic, garam masala, chilli powder and salt. Lower the heat and stir- fry for 3-5 minutes. 4-Add the chicken pieces, 2 at a time, and stir-fry at least 9-10 minutes or until the spice mixture has completely penetrated the chicken pieces. 5-Add the yogurt to the chicken and mix well. 6-Lower the heat and cover the

pan with a piece of foil, making sure that the foil does not touch the food. Cook very gently for about 15 minutes, checking once to make sure the food is not catching on the bottom of the pan. 7-Finally, add the lemon juice, fresh coriander and green chillies, and serve at once.
