quick glance at Instagram and it seems like everyone’s at it – even Kate Middleton has taken the plunge. Part of me wishes I had gone for it when my ovaries had half a chance. My friends would probably tell you they thought I’d be the one most likely to do it. What
am I talking about? Having baby number three. I’m told it’s a game-changer, that even though you’ve done it twice before, it’s as far behind practice makes perfect as it can be. And what of poor child number two who is forced to sidestep graciously out of the way for the blob that’s stolen his mother’s heart. Beverley Turner p13 and Sophie Clowes p18 (who can both talk with some authority on having three) investigate the magic of three and the mystery of Middle Child Syndrome. Our regular Who is...? page features another mother who hints that her baby making days may not be over. Vicki Psarias or Honest Mum® is a blogging sensation and in her new book Mumboss, she shares her experiences and her no-nonsense advice for returning to work without losing the plot. Anyone with one or more child approaching the school holidays with trepidation will be relieved to find our What’s On Calendars from p6 as well as days out exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths on p30. Plus, our useful Holiday Clubs round-up on p48 should throw up some ideas. Add Education News, Fashion and Style, Food, Trips and Books and I think you have enough to keep you going until next time. readers half-price early orthodontic assessments. If you haven’t heard of early Simply call 020 7078 0822 and orthodontics, you’re not alone. A modern approach quote CITYKIDS50% to get not usually available at an assessment for just £50 regular dentists, it’s essentially (usual price £100) all about timing. “At 6-8 years old, your first adult teeth come through and that’s when we make an initial assessment,” explains Happy Kids Dental’s consultant orthodontist, Amina Abdel-Karim. “If we notice a potential problem, we can look at introducing a treatment before the child reaches the full complement of adult teeth.” Designed for pre-teens (ages 6-12), these minimally invasive treatments can, in many cases, mitigate against the need for braces later.
“
We can offer Invisalign and lingual braces for teens who don’t want their braces to show, as well as fixed braces in different colours.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR “We look at crowding, bite position, habits and jaw development – all of which can benefit from interceptive treatment,” explains Amina. And if you’re concerned that this indepth assessment requires extensive x-ray, you can rest easy. “I don’t take x-rays unless I really have to,” says Amina. “x-rays only become useful nearer the time of treatment – so if a child presents with missing teeth at the age of 6, it won’t be beneficial to take an x-ray until around age 10.”
A BRACE-FREE FUTURE FOR CHILDREN?
With the new generation of early orthodontics, Happy Kids Dental can simplify or eliminate problems with your child’s dental development. TREATMENT OPTIONS Early orthodontics is an umbrella term for a broad range of treatments. “Our aim is to treat on the simplest level,” says Amina – so solutions can range from timely help with stopping a habit, such as thumb-sucking, to introducing a gentle expander to prevent crowding, or a removable retainer. It all paves the way for fewer or no problems once your child’s jaw fuses permanently, around the age of 14. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? At Happy Kids Dental, all options are on the table if further treatment is required. “We can offer Invisalign and lingual braces for teens who don’t want their braces to show,” says Amina, “as well as fixed braces in different colours. But I always tell patients not to focus on the type of treatment. What matters is the orthodontist’s skill and training.” On that point, Amina really does excel: as a consultant, she’s worked extensively with children at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. She’s thrilled to be part of Happy Kids Dental. “I’m passionate about the concept of a child-centred dental practice. Everyone here is just very dedicated, focused and committed to their job.”
FUN, FEAR-FREE DENTISTRY Whatever treatment the orthodontist recommends, you can guarantee your child’s visits will be fun and fear-free at Happy Kids Dental. The team, hand-picked for its paediatric expertise and amazing rapport with children of all ages and abilities, offers the full spectrum of paediatric dental care. Add jungle-themed play areas, iPads and flexible appointments to the mix, and you’ll find the perfect recipe for a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles.

T
here’s a look that parents of three give each other across a windy beach, a rainy towpath or in a busy restaurant. It transmits empathy, mutual respect and a large dose of ‘what-thef***-were-we-thinking?’ Having three kids can push you over the edge of parenting. One minute you’re walking down the road chatting to toddlers, one clasped in each hand. The next, with three kids, you suddenly find yourself breathless in a swirling abyss, in which the time-space continuum is torn apart. With each hand already taken up by a child, you must (literally and figuratively) resort to chivvying the eldest down the street with your spare foot. Never again will you finish a sentence without being interrupted. Bath and bedtime now takes three and a half hours. You could grow an extra arm but it would still be insufficient to tackle all the plate scraping, clothes folding, hair brushing, shoe finding, dish washing and arse wiping. For some reason, adding one child increases the workload ten-fold. Nobody knows why. There are parenting laboratories with dedicated teams of scientists trying to work it out. And yet … women like The Duchess of Cambridge (and idiots like me) still go for three. Perhaps there is a subconscious pull to this dark side. Throughout history, the number three has always had a unique significance in religion, architecture, maths and mystical ideologies. Various cultures across the globe have long shared a belief that the number three represents something sacred, mystical, universal and divine, including The Christian Holy Trinity, the ancient Egyptian Pyramids, Pythagoras’ triangles and the work of Sir Isaac Newton. Literature is littered with threes, from

STUCK IN THE MIDDLE As Princess Charlotte gets used to her new role as middle child, our resident mother of three explores middle-child syndrome. Words SOPHIE CLOWES
18 CITYKIDSMAGAZINE.CO.UK
“
As we are constantly reminded, life is often most difficult for ‘the squeezed middle’.
B
abies. It may just be an “All hail the newborn Prince!” reaction but there seems to be a bit of a baby boom happening. Instagram is bursting with burgeoning bellies and beatific babies. Such news is joyful and exciting. Except, perhaps, if you are Princess Charlotte or any other younger child whose position has been bumped to that of the middle child. As we are constantly reminded, life is often most difficult for “the squeezed middle”. It’s all a bit meh and mediocre, a touch too middle-man and middle-of-theroad bland. Middle children can even lay claim to their own syndrome – a feeling of exclusion that occurs because the first child is more prone to receiving privileges and responsibilities (by virtue of being the oldest), while the youngest in the family is more likely to receive indulgences. Child psychologist Dr Laurie Zelinger observes that middle children are often overlooked and undervalued: they are the neglected birth order. Researching the lot of the middle child both online and in real life reveals parents and grandparents who are desperate not to recreate a forgotten middle. Some couples choose not to have a third child so as to retain a happy balance. Although, income, fertility and sleep deprivation seem more likely deciding factors… Birth order plays a significant part in shaping our personality and our relationships. A friend’s (wholly unscientific) theory is that people tend to choose partners who are the same birth rank as them. This must be down, in part, to a fellow feeling and understanding of family positions. As Carola, creator of Maths Teams and mother of three, says, ”It’s uncanny how often something one of us does makes me think it’s down to birth order. But I don’t often admit to
the thought – especially to my children – because I’m mindful of the trap of selffulfilling prophecies.” Dr Katrin Schumann, co-author of The Secret Power of Middle Children, says that for decades, conventional wisdom has held that within their families, middle children feel neglected, underestimated and misunderstood. Consequently, they supposedly become, “withdrawn, resentful and lacking in confidence.” Many of the middle children she and her co-author Dr Catherine Salmon interviewed felt abandoned by their parents, when they were children. So what is the rub of being born in the middle? Mostly, they feel forgotten. They feel they spend an inordinate amount of time waiting for their siblings. They are neither the trailblazers nor the sweet little baby. They have to compromise more and feel they are heard less. As Evening Standard journalist Lucy Hunter Johnston so brilliantly put it, “in real terms, the middle child owns nothing: we are a mere conduit through which possessions pass on their way from blessed first-born to angelic last.” She also says that siblings quickly learn that she who shouts loudest gets heard. The savvy middle child, however, realises, “if you’re not making noise, you can get away with almost anything.” So do middle children live out the reality of their childhood indignation and grievances as adults? Not according to Dr Schumann’s research. She notes that, “the apparent disadvantages they endure in childhood turn out to be beneficial, in many cases giving them the attributes of empathy, independence, articulacy and creativity.” As adults, middles are shown to exceed their siblings in levels of patience, in their ability to compromise, to be nonjudgemental and open to new ideas. So far, so normal. However, it gets more interesting when we discover that middles are more successful at relationships, with 80 per cent remaining faithful to their partners (compared with 65 per cent of first-borns and 53 per cent of last-borns), according to Schumann’s research. On the world stage, middles are more likely to become “reforming politicians or agents for social change” – their sense of
injustice finds a voice. Fifty two per cent of US presidents since 1787 have been middle-borns, way higher proportionally than the number of actual middles in the population. And for those jumped-up firstborns – there has, apparently, never been a 100m Olympic gold medalist amongst you. That prize goes to younger siblings who are used to fighting for their place. According to Linda Blair, a journalist who has spent a quarter of a century studying birth order, a middle child is, “the one least likely to seek psychological help in their life.” She posits that middle children are well-adjusted negotiators who make good team players. Age gaps and gender play a significant part in determining how keenly “middle-child syndrome” is felt in families. For those parents who worry about their middle child missing out, please read Alison Riggott’s A Love Letter To My Middle Child on the blogzine Selfish Mother. (As a little aside, Molly Gunn, the founder of Selfish Mother, is as inspirational a middle child as you are likely to find.) It is a beautifully written piece, so full of love and charm you’ll want to go off and make a third child immediately just so you, too, can show this to your middle child when they grow up! It seems that being a middle child is, in fact, the best place to be in a family. As Riggott writes, “So, for not being my first or my last love, I’m sorry. But you, my precious middle boy, will always be right there in the very middle of my heart.” In the familial sandwich of life, the filling in the middle is the sweetest, best bit. Take that, Princes Louis and George – Princess Charlotte is in pole position.

haring a bedroom can be a fantastic bonding experience for siblings and, even if you have a small room, it doesn’t mean you have to skimp on style. You have to plan a little more, that’s all. Think vertically and use every inch of space, reign in the use of too much colour (which creates visual clutter) and add flexible soft seating. A bunk allows two to sleep within a single bed footprint and tall boy drawers are narrow and tall. Add focus to a room - this incredible jungle mural behind the bed creates visual impact and will set a scene for a muted palette of greys, ochre, monochrome and splashes of turquoise. Double-sided bed linen will coordinate both bunks or let your children individualise their own harmonising look, while cushions add comfort to lounge on and pouffes provide low level seating. CRISPY SQUID & DIPPING SAUCE
C
rispy Squid is a very popular dish on the menu at The Gorgeous Kitchen and we’ve recently added a smaller version to our children’s menu, which is going down a treat. Of course you don’t have to plan a flight from Heathrow to taste it, as here’s the recipe for you to make it yourself at home. It’s really quick to prepare and cook, and you can easily buy ready cleaned squid (fresh or frozen) from fishmongers or larger supermarkets. Both larger squid tubes or the baby squid can be used, and you could even throw a few prawns in there too. At the restaurant we serve with a Lime and Chilli dip on the main menu (and a choice of dips for kids). For convenience you can serve yours at home with a bought sweet chilli dipping sauce, however you might also like to give the below dip recipes a try too. Enjoy!
SERVES 4 400g squid, cleaned 100g cornflour 100g plain flour 1 tsp salt 200ml milk sunflower or groundnut oil for frying lime wedges choice of dipping sauce (Lime Mayonnaise, Sweet Chilli, Satay… see recipes)
SWEET CHILLI DIP
• Wash and pat dry the squid. Slice the tubes horizontally into rings or slice in half lengthways and lightly score the inside in a crisscross pattern before cutting into smaller bite size pieces. If using baby squid, you may also have the tentacles, which can be left whole. • Put the squid into a bowl and pour over the milk. • Put the cornflour, flour and salt in a shallow bowl and mix to combine. • Pour some oil into a large pan until the pan is no more than a third full. Place over a medium heat and let the oil warm up.
• Totest that the oil is ready, place a small piece of bread in the pan - it should sizzle when it touches the oil. It needs to reach about 180°C. • Remove a handful of squid from the milk, and toss around in the flour mixture, to coat. Shake off excess flour and gently drop individual pieces of squid into the oil. Fry for about 3 minutes until the coating is crisp and lightly golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on kitchen paper. Repeat with the remaining squid. • Serve straight away with dipping sauces of your choices and wedges of lime to squeeze over.

MUCH ADO ABOUT SHAKESPEARE The Y6 boys at St James Junior School are rehearsing for A Comedy of Errors which will bring the curtain down on the school’s first Shakespeare Festival on Friday 29th June. Since the Spring term, pupils have learned about music from Tudor Times, taken part in a workshop by the festival patron and renowned actor, Sir Timothy West CBE, and held two days of productions performed by the whole school. Catherine Thomlinson, headmistress at St James Junior School, said: “The festival has played a key role in promoting a sense of wonder at the beauty of Shakespeare’s prose from even the very youngest children in the school. We hope it is just the start of what will be a lifelong relationship with Shakespeare.”

FALCONS FUNDRAISING Pupils from Falcons Preparatory School for Boys have raised £2,500 for a children’s charity, with an art exhibition showcasing their creativity. In preparation for the event, pupils worked collectively to create a large canvas painting which was sold in a traditional silent auction raising money for the school’s selected charity, The Wooden Spoon. Inspired by the roots of rugby, the charity seeks to fund a number of projects each year, supporting disadvantaged and disabled children. Meanwhile, Falcons Pre-Prep is celebrating 7+ following the launch of a new initiative which takes the school back to its founding 1956 ethos. The personalised approach to the traditional 7+ process has seen the boys win offers at renowned schools including St Paul’s Junior School, Latymer Prep, Hampton, Caldicott and Papplewick.

SUMMER S.T.E.A.M. This summer, Fire Tech is offering hands-on tech courses for 9-17 year olds covering robotics, coding and electronics, and creative courses such as Creating for YouTube and Digital Photography. Courses are week-long and taught by tech-savvy tutors from some of the UK’s leading universities. All students leave with finished projects to share with their friends and family, and go from passive tech-consumers to proactive tech creators. Jill Hodges, a West London mother of two, started Fire Tech because she was concerned her own children weren’t learning the skills they needed to thrive in the tech-driven economy, and wanted to make sure learning technology was fun. The courses were a hit, Fire Tech has delivered over 8,000 courses to young people around the world. One enthusiastic parent said: “There is a definite correlation between attending a Fire Tech course and [my son] deciding to work really hard in school.”

W
e’ve all been there. Everything seems to be going to plan. In an effort to avoid morning stress, shouting and general chaos, you were actually organised the night before: clean uniform laid out, workbooks, snacks, instruments and games kits are packed and ready to go. But your child isn’t. And Grandfather time waits for no man, especially on the school run. In fact, aren’t there fewer minutes in the hour in the morning? Mrs Moira Edwards, Head of Early Years (Nursery and Reception) at St Benedict’s, has put together some tips on how to manage a smooth sailing school run. MAKE IT FUN! However stressed you may be feeling as the time ticks away, try to jolly your child along with a silly song, bad jokes or funny voices. If they’re laughing they’re generally more compliant! REWARD Strike a deal with your child. If they can get ready and out of the house on time, reward them with a treat. GIVE TIME LIMITS Giving them a set time for brushing their teeth, or

putting on their socks will help them to stay focused and avoid distractions.
First class early education for 0-5 year olds
CHANGE HOW YOU TRAVEL Ring the changes by walking to school, or by letting them ride along on their scooters. This avoids the stress of traffic and can be a good time to chat to your child. TALKING TIME Talking to your child about the day ahead of them helps them to look forward to school. It also gives you the chance to find out about school life – what they enjoy and what they look forward to. COMPETE Create a little competition between siblings: who can brush their teeth, or get dressed first? SLEEP! Make sure they get enough sleep so that they are well rested for the day ahead.

LEARNING FROM NATURE JUSTIN BAKER, co-founder of First Hand Experiences, explores.
O
ur worlds, and consequently those of our children, are becoming forever more condensed and channelled through one form of screen or another. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t wistfully gaze outside at the ‘real world’ while sat, unavoidably, at my desk. While our schools are becoming increasingly kitted up with the latest and newest technology, beyond its walls lie the most resourced and fully equipped classrooms: the natural world. There, in the woods, fields, ponds or streams, lies an unlimited supply of learning opportunities that are ready to naturally engage children’s curious minds.
“
In order for children to learn, they need to be able to pay attention. In order to pay attention, we need to let them move. ANGELA HANSON
Many studies from around the world show that regular time outdoors results in significant improvements in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning ability and mental, psychological and emotional well-being. Here is a closer look at how time spent in nature can enrich our children lives.

EDUCATION
CHILD-LED DISCOVERY We are all naturally curious, and this is how we learn. When children are given space and time in nature to set their own boundaries, we see at them at their best. However, children sometimes require a simple framework to remind them of this innate skill. Scavenger hunts, for example with a spotter sheet as a guide, give them the confidence they need to discover the names for natural objects. “Sycamore seed!” “Catkin!” “Blossom!” Once their minds go into ‘hunter gatherer mode’, the spotter sheet becomes more or less redundant as their curiosity leads them to search for all kinds of natural treasures through the process of child-led discovery. GIVING OWNERSHIP TO THEIR LEARNING As a learning resource, nature is not only limitless, but it is also ever present. So, children can access their own learning all year round. This means that once children learn how to engage with the natural world, they can interact with it, and respond to it with an adult supervising rather than leading. Free and unstructured play in the outdoors boosts problem-solving skills, focus and self-discipline. Socially, it improves cooperation, flexibility, and selfawareness. NATURE TO SPARK IMAGINATION Nature is also a wonderful platform for role play and creativity. During free play sessions in the woods, I’ve seen restaurants and markets set up the sale of the most delectable leaf rolled twigs you’ve ever seen! Or a carpenter’s workshop run ‘by the children, for the children’, which produced the finest quality sawdust made using a saw-shaped stick and a log!
The woods that belong to the wolf, or the stream with goats trip-trapping over it, are the stuff of fairy tales, but the natural world makes a formidable backdrop for imaginative play. Re-enacting stories is a vital part of child development and, in nature, children can become characters in their own stories. Stories that look and feel as real as a book or, indeed, the latest film. So, we know the outside world is full of rich learning opportunities that change through the seasons, need minimal input or adult intervention. It can become the source of hours of imaginative play. But, with our busy urban lives, wild time for our children can seem especially hard to achieve. How can we tackle this? Encourage your school to increase their outdoor learning, from trips to the woods, ponds, streams and even your garden, however small. At home, try to prioritise time in nature over other activities. The woodland trust ‘Nature Detectives’ resource has lots of simple outdoor activities that will help you and your family create a nature-rich life that will benefit your children now and in the future. We must remember that, “Time in nature is not leisure time; it’s an essential investment in our children’s health (and also, by the way, in our own).”
JUSTIN BAKER is co-founder of First Hand Experiences, a social enterprise dedicated to providing children with inspiring and enriching experiences anchored in the natural world. Both their day-camps in Fulham and sleep-overs in Kent immerse children in the outdoors, letting them celebrate nature through arts and craft, music, theatre and whole food.

BOOK REVIEW
PRE-SCHOOLERS
LITTLE KIDS THE RETURN OF THE RAILWAY CHILDREN by Lou Kuenzler (Scholastic)
ABC MINDFUL ME by Christiane Engel (Quarto) With life moving at an everincreasing pace, it’s never too young to learn about being calm and present. Plus if you can learn your A-Z too, what a bonus. Every letter of the alphabet is coupled with a word that aids young children’s understanding of the fundamental principles of mindfulness, including love, kindness, gratitude and empathy. A sweet book which gives a nice twist on a tried and tested format.
THE STORY OF TANTRUM O’FURRILY by Cressida Cowell and Mark Nicholas (Hodder) On a wild and windy night, stray cat Tantrum O’ Furrily tells her three hungry kittens a story to distract them from their hunger pangs. We’re introduced to Smallpaw who uses all her courage to find her own next meal. Beautifully illustrated, using a dark palate of colours, it also has a lovely twist in the tale, which is sure to delight young children.
This follow up to The Railway Children will definitely warm the cockles and Kuenzler has not strayed too far from the spirit of the muchloved classic. Set in WWII, 12-year-old Edie is worried about being sent away to live with an aunt she doesn’t know as her mum is a pilot for the Air Transport Auxilliary. Luckily, she gets on well with her aunt and her cousins Gus and Greta but it isn’t long before she’s wondering if the pair are harbouring a dark secret of their own. A clever re-imagining that encapsulates all the joy of the original to a modern audience.
SPLASH by Charli Howard (Nosy Crow) This book packs a punch, tackling the world of competitive sport, body confidence, friendships and family dynamics. Set in Year 6, Molly dreams of being a champion swimmer, but when her best friend pressures her to conform to a particular body type, the real challenges begin. Molly also lives with her grandparents and coupled with a dad she doesn’t know and a mum who dips in and out of her life it’s a lot for young Molly to work out who she wants to be. Author Charli Howard is a body positive campaigner who wants to make the voices of diverse figures seen and heard.
BIG KIDS DR CHRISTIAN’S GUIDE TO GROWING UP ONLINE by Dr Christian Jessen (Scholastic) Know your finsta from your rinsta? No? Keep up at the back. It’s fake Instagram vs real Instagram account of course. This book is essential for children (and parents) growing up in a digital world. Famous for his Embarrassing Bodies TV series and the bestselling book Dr Christian’s Guide To Growing Up, this is just what is needed to get to grips with how to keep safe online, online bullying, group chats, your digital footprint and so much more. An absolute essential read for teens navigating an ever-changing digital landscape.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH by Alice James & Louie Stowell, illustrated by Nancy Leschnikoff & Freya Harrison (Usborne) Whilst we know the benefits of physical health, it’s easy to forget that young people also need to be mindful over their emotional and mental wellbeing. This book empowers youngsters with honest advice about ways of looking after their mental health in a fastmoving world. Using expert advice from the Royal College of Psychiatrists topics tackled include the science of anger, toxic friendships, sex and relationships and so much more.

TRIPS
TREEHOUSE MEALS, KIDS’ CLUB AND LUXURY VIBES Pure barefoot luxury, the Ekies All Senses Resort is a family-friendly retreat with a gloriously relaxed vibe. Gourmet meals in the fabulous treehouse add to this resort’s appeal. Growing up, owner Alexandra Efstathiadou spent her summer holidays here, overlooking the crystal-clear Vourvourou Bay on the peninsula of Sithonia, Chalkidiki’s ‘second finger’. She jumped at the chance to buy the hotel, and her whimsical reinvention layers various design styles that range from minimalist to high-design, along with the legendary Greek hospitality. For families, the grounds are safe, there’s a well organised kids’ club and shallow sea.
PRICE A week’s stay in August costs from £744pp, based on a family of 4 sharing a Penthouse Suite on a B&B basis, with use of bikes. Flights extra.

WHO IS? VICKI PSARIAS PEOPLE
VICTORIA EVANS CATCHES UP WITH THE AUTHOR AND BLOGGER
having a cool-headed and caring husband, Peter and manager, Jack Freud, helps hugely. I never feel sad for long.
T
Top tips for someone wanting to blog as a career? Buy my book Mumboss of course: I share all that I know within that from how to start a blog, finding your voice and confidence and knowing your worth. Quick tips are: let your passions lead you, write what you know and be consistent. hree words to describe yourself. Warm, talkative, generous.
What are your social media house rules? Nothing digital at the table and the kids have set times when they can use the computer. YouTube is weekends only. I’m not addicted to my phone anymore either and most of our evenings are tech-free unless I’m on a deadline. I tend to write during the day now that my book Mumboss is out. I wrote that between 10pm and 3am last year! Lots of people blog so they can get their hands on free stuff. What was your motivation? I started Honestmum.com in 2010 to rediscover my voice after a traumatic birth. Blogging as a career in the UK was unheard of then. After four weeks, I was offered my first commission and my business grew organically from there. Now I work with global brands while sharing all that I know to help mobilise and inspire other mums and dads to work flexibly and remotely thanks to the democratic internet.
What was the motivation for Mumboss? I wanted a long-form piece that you could follow, or dip into which houses all that I’ve learnt in the seven years blogging and vlogging. Last book you read? Purpose-Find Your Truth and Embrace Your Calling by my pal Jessica Huie MBE. It is brilliantly life-affirming and inspirational. What’s your top tip for date night in London? We do date days, to be honest. It’s easier to get a babysitter and there are no hangovers. The Royal Garden Hotel for vegan afternoon tea, followed by a walk in the adjacent Kensington Gardens, would be the best day date possible. I adore being their resident blogger. It’s my second-home and it’s so tranquil there.
Why do you think your profile has grown in the way it has? My readers tell me they feel I’m their friend: their honest, loving friend who tells it like it is and gives them the advice they need to hear. I’ll take that.
Where’s your favourite place to go in London with the children? Anywhere in Kensington or Notting Hill. I used to live on Westbourne Grove and did so when I met my husband Peter so we have lots of happy memories there. We love revisiting with the kids be it eating out, heading to the park or visiting a local museum.
How do you deal with negativity on social media? I’m pretty good at brushing off the trolls now that I’m seven years in. I think

child. Dogs bark back at me but I’ve not a clue what they’re on about!!! What would you take to a desert island? My kids and husband. Then vegan chocolate. Signature dish? I turned plant-based several months ago and my go-to is a mild chickpea curry the whole family loves. What’s been your proudest moment? The birth of my kids and my wedding day. Then, seeing my parents’ faces on publication day. Their pride and joy is etched in my mind’s eye forever. What’s next on the list of things to do? Mumboss: The Movie is the grand plan, Stan. A talk show too please and moving to LA in five years’ time, perhaps. Oh, and the big dream is another baby, but I need to work on my nonbroody husband for that one (it might take a while). I have a lot I want to do to be honest...
