1.0 Justification for choosing the Trans-City topic: 1.Transit system between Johor Bahru and Singapore is a very interesting study topic as it is serves as an important daily border crossing especially for Malaysians who work in Singapore. 2.This study will focus on what the future scenario could be when Iskandar Malaysia emerges as the largest economic development region in South East Asia. 3.The transit space quality is also a big concern as it affects the wellbeing of people in these spaces. The study is trying to investigate whether transit space throughout the border is well designed and serves the needs of the commuters.

4.0 Research Questions 1.How can the public spaces better represent the identity of the border region? 2.How can we re-imagine these spaces in JB-Singapore as vibrant public places? 3.How can these spaces provide sustainable public places?

5.0 Objectives 1.To ensure that the transportation system between Johor Bahru and Singapore is reliable and comprehensive. 2.To explore new options for public transport as to cater the traffic problems. 3.To learn from the various needs of the public on the demand of transportation system in these cities.

The IRDA has plans to upgrade the transportation system from Johor Baru to Singapore.”.

10.0 Future Scenario Discussions

Trans-City High Connectivity Better opportunity to stimulate the economy High level of robustness People needs are meet in the transit space

Urban Safety Disconnected development Segregation of activities and people will use the transit spaces

Regional Cooperation Johor Bahru will become a peripheral city Transit link is available but less people will use it Lower female patronage Transit spaces are less social sustainable

Trans-City failure Disconnected spaces Poorly patronized transit spaces and its system

Transit Facilities Good accessibility Better economic development More formal and informal activities High level of robustness People feel good and their needs are meet Better movement

Lack of movement Lower patronage Opportunities are loss for social interaction in the transit spaces Spaces become less socially sustainable

Urban Safety There is movement but energy and time is lost in the transit spaces Opportunity for interaction are loss Culture of transit spaces is less friendly Transit spaces are unutilized

Lack of connectivity No activities both formal and informal Difficult to stimulate the economic sector Functionality and vibrancy decreased.

The Transit-City Utilising Transit Oriented Development and Intelligent Systems Extending the MRT to Johor Baru, Creating a Johor Baru Transit Logo (maintain the identity of Johor Baru Light Rail Link to be LRT Intelligent Link to Nusajaya More Regional Cooperation on strategic urban planning - prepare an MOU, clean up Selat Johor - Selat Johor is a transit space too! Provide dedicated cycle lanes, walkways and improve of the urban fabric of transit spaces in the border regions to encourage walking and cycle. Engage in education, encouragement and incentive programs to get people out of their cars, to activate these spaces to use other forms of transport – new cycle and walkway bridge. Improve urban fabric and physical design elements of transit spaces Demilitarise Transit Spaces 

12.0 Conclusion

Transit system plays important role to support and enhance the economic sector and also tourism between both country Improve the regional corporation, urban safety, quality of transit facilities (shelter and Universal Access, and positive political corporation.
