e welcome you to Hong Kong and to CityLife, the monthly magazine for visitors to Asia’s World City. As you know, the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has severely curtailed global travel. In such trying circumstances, we greatly appreciate your coming to our city. Understandably, almost all events and activities have been postponed and major attractions such as theme parks are closed until further notice. The good news in Hong Kong is that, while the city was one of the earliest to see an outbreak of COVID-19, the number of new cases has been quite modest, thanks to the vigilance of Hong Kong people and the effective measures taken by the government. As such, as we go to print, the city remains open, including all the hotels, the transportation systems, shopping malls, retail shops and restaurants, albeit with certain social distancing rules in place. The city remains safe and clean and there is still plenty to do here. So, when you are looking for what to do or where to go, we suggest that you contact your concierge for the latest information on what’s on. While you are here, you may want to take advantage of the balmy May weather and explore the city’s outdoors and its fantastic cityscape. One activity that should be top of your list is to visit one of Hong Kong’s many outlying islands. You may be surprised to find that with a short and convenient ferry ride, you can be out of the bustling city and exploring idyllic islands of sleepy villages, sandy beaches, cool rock formations and scenic vantage points. Please check out our cover story on page 4 for more details. The heart of Hong Kong remains Victoria Harbour, one of the greatest harbours in the world. A walk along its harbourfront is always an awe-inspiring experience as one enjoys the spectacular vista of mountains, skyscrapers and the bustling harbour. Thanks to the Government’s continuous effort to open up the harbourfront to pedestrians, visitors can now take long walks without disruption to fully take in this wonderful harbour of ours. The recently completed section connecting Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to Central via Tamar Park makes that walking experience even more enjoyable. Please go to our feature story for more details on a harbourfront walk from Wanchai to Kennedy Town. With most restaurants still open, we recommend you take full advantage of all the culinary delights that Hong Kong has to offer. ore than just a global metropolitan city with all the vibrancy and buzz you would expect, Hong Kong is increasingly known as a favourite outdoor destination, with more and more visitors coming primarily to explore the diverse geography of the region. The outlying islands of Hong Kong, of which there are around 260, are a key part of Hong Kong’s outdoor scene. While many of these islands are hard to access, those within reach form an eclectic selection of enchanting destinations that are well worth visiting, offering stunning topography, pristine beaches, enchanting villages, picturesque hiking trails, cool rock formations and good seafood restaurants, with each packing its own charm and character. Here is our pick of the eight best islands to visit, with most reachable from the Central Ferry Piers. Enjoy and be sure to take photos galore.

Lamma Island 南 丫 岛 Hong Kong’s third-largest island is home to several sleepy villages and an enclave for Western expats, who relish the slower pace of life here. It’s also where Hong Kong’s movie icon Chow Yun Fat grew up. For a scenery-laden route, we suggest you take a ferry from Central to Yung Shue Wan village, walk through the village then follow the hiking trail to Sok Kwu Wan. You will pass by a popular stand selling bean curd pudding, a favourite Hong Kong dessert that you must try. You’ll also pass by Hung Shing Yeh Beach, a pretty sandy beach worth lingering at before hiking up a modest hill. The walk up to the ridge offers a panoramic view of the island and the power plant beyond. Descending the hill, you’ll pass by some rustic villages, mangroves and a Tin Hau Temple before arriving at Sok Kwu Wan where a row of seafood restaurants awaits you. Cap your day with a yummy live-catch seafood meal before taking the ferry back to Central from the adjacent pier. 02 Cheung Chau 長 洲 This island is a weekend favourite for locals and visitors alike, so it can get quite busy. There is a small but active fishing harbour and a lively village with shops lining the waterfront promenade and the narrow ‘roads’ behind, all of which are well worth exploring for souvenirs and a slice of local life. There are bikes for hire to help you go a little further. Temple hopping is also popular as the island is home to several, including the Pak Tai Temple, site of the famous Cheung Chau Bun Festival. The Tung Wan Beach not far away is ideal for swimming. Hiking trails abound, including one to explore the famous Cheung Po Tsai Pirates’ cave and others offering scenic vantage points. 03 Lantau -South Lantau 大 嶼 山 - 南 大 嶼 山 Despite substantial development on North Lantau in the last 25 years, Hong Kong’s largest island remains largely undeveloped. On the other side of its mountainous terrain, enticing South Lantau will deliver a most pleasant and relaxing day visiting quiet towns, long sandy beaches, and authentic fishing villages. Take the ferry from Central to Mui Wo, a sleepy town that is perfect for riding around by bike. You can take a bus on from there to any of several popular beaches. Pui O, a westward-facing beach known for its smooth sand and its nearby quaint village, is perfect to watch a lazy sunset over chilled drinks. Also excellent are the long stretches of sand at the Upper and Lower Cheung Sha Beaches which offer smooth sands and calm waters for swimming, or even digging your own clams. It is easy to spend a leisurely afternoon sipping cool drinks at one of the beachside restaurants. Tai O village at the southwestern corner of the island is another popular destination. One of Hong Kong’s oldest fishing villages remains essentially as it has been for over a century, with many houses built on stilts over water and where fishing is still a way of life. 04 Peng Chau 坪 洲 Less seen by tourists than the others, Peng Chau is a small quaint island just off east Lantau, not far from Discovery Bay. Several thousand people live here – either born of multiple local generations, or drawn to its unhurried lifestyle and relative isolation. It won’t take you long before you feel the same vibes after you reach the island. There is a heritage trail worth following (an easy hike) and a modest scamper up to the highest point, Finger Point, rewards you with a 360-degree view of Lantau, Hong Kong Island and the South China Sea. You can unwind and enjoy a simple but delicious seafood meal at the local restaurant on the way back. Po Toi
蒲 台
Switching to the east and a favourite and picturesque destination for local “junk trips”, Po Toi offers primitive but navigable hiking trails leading to panoramic views of the sea and neighbouring islands, cliffs and rocks and spectacular rock formations along the rocky shore. There are ferries available from Aberdeen and Stanley, mostly on weekends and public holidays. A seafood restaurant awaits the hungry after a day’s adventure. Tung Lung Chau 東 龍 洲 This pristine island lying just off the Clearwater Bay Peninsula in Sai Kung District is a real hidden gem. Reachable only on weekends and public holidays, Tung Lung Island is famous for rock climbing along its north eastern coastline. There is an old abandoned fort with a campsite nearby. A scenic footpath offers unimpeded views of the sea and the peninsula across. It won’t take long before you are disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the city just minutes away. Catch the ferry at Sai Wan Ho at the pier inside the Aldrich Bay Typhoon Shelter near Grand Promenade or at Sam Ka Tsuen Ferry Pier in Lei Yue Mun. 這個位於西貢區清水灣半島外的古樸小島，是 一個隱藏的瑰寶。只有在周末和公眾假期才開 放，東龍島以其沿東北海岸線的懸崖峭壁而 聞名。附近有一個廢棄的舊古堡砲台和露營營 地，到此一遊，更可以遠離喧囂的城市。筲箕 灣避風塘碼頭內的西灣河碼頭或鯉魚門三家村 碼頭乘搭渡輪。 MAY 2020

07 Tung Ping Chau 東 坪 洲 A small island in the easternmost reaches of Hong Kong, Tung Ping Chau is part of the Hong Kong Global Geopark and the territory’s only island comprised of sedimentary rocks – the rest of Hong Kong’s geology deriving from an ancient volcano. Accessible by ferries on weekends from Ma Liu Shui in the New Territories, the island is a favourite destination for locals. A once-thriving costal fishing village has bequeathed abandoned buildings and heritage temples. Stunning rock formations including spectacular cliffs and rare wave-cut rock platforms are the big attractions. 東坪洲是香港最東端的一個小島，是香港世界地質公園的 一部分，也是唯一一個由沉積岩組成的島。週末從新界馬料水 乘渡輪前往，是當地人最喜歡的目的地，不過最值得欣 賞的是壯麗的岩層，一點壯觀的懸崖和罕見的波浪狀岩石 地。曾經繁華的沿海漁村留下的建築物和文物廟宇同樣值 得一遊。

Tap Mun (Grass Island) 塔 門 If you want to visit a totally unspoilt island and fishing village, this small island off the Sai Kung Peninsula is out of the way but well worth a visit. As you step off the boat, you can almost feel time slowing down as Tap Mun’s traditional fishing village still ticks to the old rhythms of life. It’s an easy one-hour walk around the island. You’ll see cows still roaming the fields and little fishing boats bobbing nearby. There are a few stores and restaurants: be sure to try the fried rice with local sea urchin roe. I
t’s long been the goal of the Hong Kong Government to create a continuous promenade along the city’s famed Victoria Harbour. That vision recently came one step closer with the completion of a section connecting the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai to Tamar Park at Admiralty, and on to the Central Harbourfront. Further west, the government also not long ago finished another segment, connecting the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sai Yin Pun to the Western District Cargo Working Area, famously dubbed ‘Instagram Pier’. So, for the intrepid, with a few minor detours, one can now enjoy panoramic views of the Hong Kong’s world-famous harbour all the way from Wanchai to Kennedy Town, with dramatically different vantage points along the way. We have mapped out the route and highlighted some of the most prominent landmarks and destinations along the way. The walk is of course basically level. Along the way, you’ll see joggers, strolling passers-by, aspiring anglers, busking singers or dancers, romantic couples, children and millennials looking for that one Instagram photo spot for social media fame. It’s a real slice of the Hong Kong you might otherwise miss. A good time for this promenade stroll is in the early evening, as the building lights come on and giant neon billboards help transform the city into a magical, glittering metropolis. And, as one of the world’s safest cities, it’s perfectly fine to walk at night. Come along then and be immersed in the fantastic views of Hong Kong’s iconic promenade.

Wanchai Ferry Pier 灣仔碼頭
Start at the Wanchai Ferry Pier, which you can reach by bus or – ideally – by taking the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon. The rooftop garden offers the perfect spot to take in your first panoramic views of the harbour, the skylines across and the hills to the east. HKCEC Golden Bauhinia Square and Comix Park 金紫荊廣場 Just a short walk from the ferry pier is Golden Bauhinia Square, right outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The man-made promontory that HKCEC sits on means you get an unimpeded view of both the skyline in Central and Kowloon across. The square is also now home to the Ani-Com Park which houses a large collection of sculpted figures of locally famous comic figures and everyday items. 金紫荊廣場距輪渡碼頭僅幾步之遙，位於香港會議展覽中心 外。由於會展中心處在海岸邊突出位置，您可以一覽無餘地 看到中環和九龍的天際線。廣場現在還擁有大量本地著名漫 畫人物和日常用品的雕塑。

It’s also one of the best spots to get a shot of a gorgeous sunset over the sea and the islands peeking from over the horizon. This is a short detour worth taking. Just past the praya, walk inland along Cadogan Street until you hit Forbes Street where you turn right. You’ll be greeted by the stunning sight of large banyan tress with their roots splayed across the hefty old walls of a park, stretching for almost a hundred metres.
Around 1900, the main district of Hong Kong was the City of Victoria, which occupied the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. Its boundaries were demarcated by boundary stones and many are still in place. The westernmost one is in Kennedy Town on Sai Ning Street. Retrace your steps from Forbes Street until you hit Victoria Road where you turn left. Continue westward and Sai Ning Street is on your right. The boundary stone is near the end of the street.

Arthur Hacker divulges the colourful tale of pirate Eli Boggs 亞瑟．克赫細說海盜伊利．保格
T
here is a popular Hong Kong tale of a fight between two notorious American pirates in the murky waters of Mirs Bay. Both buccaneers were legends in their own lifetimes. The capture of the pirate Eli Boggs by one-eared "Bully" Hayes is recorded in great detail in numerous books about pirates, several encyclopaedias as well as across the Internet. Unfortunately the story is pure fiction and never happened. Boggs was arrested by a Constable Barker in Bonham Strand near the former offices of this magazine. Meanwhile, a preserved copy of Bully Hayes' Australian marriage certificate proves that Bully was down under committing bigamy for the second or third time when Eli Boggs as appeared before the Hong Kong Supreme Court on 4 July 1857, charged with murder and piracy. Boggs conducted his own defence. George Wingrove Cooke, The Times correspondent, was in the court that day. He wrote: "His name would do for a villain of the Blackbeard class, but in form and feature, he was like the hero of a sentimental novel; as he stood in the dock, bravely battling for his life, it seemed impossible that that handsome boy could be a pirate whose name had been connected with the boldest and bloodiest acts

of piracy. lt was a face of feminine beauty, Not a down on his upper lip; large lustrous eyes; a mouth with a smile of which might woo coy maidens; affluent black hair, not carelessly parted; hands so small and so delicately white as they would create a sensation in Belgravia; such was the Hongkong pirate Eli Boggs." In a speech of great power that lasted two hours, Boggs claimed that he had been framed by Ma Chow Wong, a bumboat proprietor and wet fish merchant, and Daniel Caldwell, who at one time or another held the posts of RegistrarGeneral, Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Protector of the Chinese. Boggs virulently protested his innocence and accused both men of being in league with themselves. Numerous witnesses told how Boggs had raided their ships. He generally took only silver and opium, which were easy to dispose of, leaving the rest of the cargo untouched. However, on one occasion he stole a box of candy from the cabin of a Mr Carvalho, the second officer of a Portuguese lorcha. The prosecution was unable to find a witness who had actually seen Boggs kill anyone. Nor was there any evidence that he was the captain of the formidable pirate fleet that had launched the attacks.

Boggs was acquitted of murder, but the jury found him guilty of piracy. Instead of receiving the death penalty, he was sentenced to be transported for life, which was virtually a slap on the wrist and a one-way ticket to the United States of America at the expense of the Hong Kong Government. It was a bewilderingly mild sentence. Obviously Chief Justice Hulme thought that there was something fishy going on. The Boggs case eventually developed into a parliamentary enquiry. Caldwell was dismissed from office and Ma Chow Wong convicted of piracy.

No American ship was willing to take the pirate to America and Boggs languished in a Hong Kong jail until 1860, writing poetry. So what then became of Boggs, and of Bully? There is a dubious yarn that Boggs was a skilled ventriloquist, and used this talent to terrify the crew of the good ship Imogene, by pretending to be a ghost and filling the ship with satanic laughter. This caused the third mate to fall off the mast. He landed on Boggs with a sickening thud as they hit the deck together.

It’s easy to get there by taxi, otherwise it’s a 10to 15-minute walk from either the harbour-tunnel bus stops or West Kowloon MTR station. Upon arrival, your breath is taken away by the magnificent view of Victoria Harbour and the glittering skyline of Hong Kong Island across. From its coveted vantage point, Pano unquestionably offers one of the very best night views in the city.

A generous open terrace allows guests to admire the scenery while enjoying their drinks and food. The interior décor is modern and elegant, with rich and dark colour furnishings to accent the mood. The roof of the restaurant, which offers the same views, is ideal for hosting events and parties. The unquestioned pedigree of Chef Ken, with his 25 years at some of Hong Kong’s finest Italian and French restaurants, attracts a loyal following of local celebrities and food aficionados. For his latest culinary endeavour, Chef Ken is looking to combine fine French cooking with quality local and Asian ingredients and cooking elements. We had Pano’s Tasting Menu (9 courses, $1,188/ person). We started with two cocktails recommended by the manager – Lemongrass and Pickle ($148 apiece). Then the dinner began with a tasty beetroot Amuse Bouche. This was followed by Seasonal Vegetables of endives, Italian-style stir-fried mixed vegetables with mullet roe and eggplant cooked in balsamic sauce.

Roasted Short Neck Clam topped with caviar and garlic foam came next – the local clam is cooked Japanese style with butter and sake. This was followed by Applewood Smoked Organic Broccoli Royale with Hokkaido Sea Urchin, an aesthetically presented dish that is smoked under a glass lid and removed in front of the diners. For these seafood dishes, we chose a fruity 2017 Domaine de Cristia Cotes du Rhone Blanc. Next was Deep Fried Tilefish with Scales in which the crispy skin of the fish contrasts nicely with the tender meat. Then a real treat – Spaghetti with Clams and Chili, in which spicy Sichuan flavourings infuse the olive oil, with the whole delicately slow-cooked. A refreshing palate cleanser, Homemade Passion Fruit Sorbet, preceded the entrée: a choice of Allspice Maltose French Pigeon with Shallot Puree or Miyazaki Wagyu Beef Two Ways ($198 supplement). The pigeon skin is dipped in local ingredients, but cooked French-style; and the slow-cooked beef cheek was tender and chewy. A dry 2014 Chateau Laurence Grand Vin De Bordeaux accompanied the entrees. Our excellent dessert was Dried Beancurd Mille Feuille with Dried Beancurd and Pearl Barley Sorbet, another locally adapted dish in which beancurd sheet is made into ice cream, especially good paired with the sweet 2019 Ca ed Balos Moscato d’Asti DOCG from Piedmont. Our dining experience at Pano was a superb combination of mesmerising views and excellent food. Do make the effort to give it a try. We highly recommend it.■

Our culinary treat at one of the city’s finest Japanese restaurants is a real umami delight! 在香港最好的日本餐廳享受美味！

a-ke has long been a popular Japanese restaurant in town, known for its quality ingredients and refined fare. Its coveted status received a further boost when it relocated to Lee Gardens two years ago. We were tempted by its teppanyaki Course special offer and decided to pay a visit. The 6,000-square-foot outlet, which seats 120 guests, is spacious and aesthetically appealing. 1957 & Co., Ta-ke’s operator and a well-known restaurant group in the city, spared no expense in its design. Three renowned designers were involved: Kengu Kama from Japan, Steve Leung, an award-winning local star, and Tino Kwan as lighting consultant. The result is a masterpiece – five distinct zones that evoke a traditional and tranquil setting treated with a contemporary and sophisticated approach. Ta-Ke serves sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki and tempura, each expertly prepared. Ta-Ke also showcases an excellent collection of Japanese liquors: premium sake, shochu and prized Japanese whiskies. Our dinner choice was the Ta-ke Premium Seasonal Teppanyaki Course ($1,880/person). Take is running a buy-one-get-one-free promotion for the Teppanyaki Course when you join the 1957 & Co., loyalty programme. The 11-item course started with 3 Kinds of Seasonal Appetiser – Parma ham salad, mussels in sake, and deep-fried squid, followed by 3 Kinds of Sashimi – tuna, hamachi and scallop. The sashimi is fresh, tender and sweet. The teppanyaki courses were next. Clams with Daikon Radish and Ponzu Sauce was excellent – the clam is sliced into juicy morsels and heated in a large clam shell, seasoned with the ponzu sauce. Iwate Iwagaki Oyster with Chinese Sauce, in which the oyster is halved and cooked in cheese

sauce and served on oyster shell, is another delicious treat. Live Lobster with Butter Sauce is another mouthwatering treat. The live lobster is split in two and cooked in butter and lightly seasoned. Two beef dishes came next. First was Australian Wagyu Beef Tongue, served with vegetables and deep-fried garlic chips. The teppanyaki style well captures the flavour and tenderises the meat. Diced Teppanyaki “4% Miracle” A5 Satsuma Wagyu (80g) was next. The beef is first grilled and set aside to allow the marble of the meat and its flavour to come through more fully. After which the beef is re-grilled and diced into serving pieces with garlic chips – we savoured each piece of the tenderloin. As a wrap, Sea Urchin Fried Rice, with Japanese rice and large Japanese eggs stir-fried on the grill and topped with top sea urchin from Hokkaido, was just the ticket. A Lobster Miso Soup, Japanese Vegetables, and a yummy dessert of Green Tea Ice Cream Puff and Japanese Melon ended our exquisite meal. Along the way we enjoyed a bottle of aromatic and refreshing Jumai Daiginjo Born - Tsuya from Fukui ($780) sake. Our Teppanyaki meal at Ta-ke was a wonderful gastronomical experience. If you are on the look-out for top-notch Japanese food, do give Ta-Ke a try.■

Acclaimed London restaurant Duck & Waffle, sitting high above the City financial district, recently opened its first-ever branch outside of London, to much fanfare. Located in ifc mall, Duck & Waffle offers British cuisine with European and American influences, serving up a combination of traditional and innovative dishes, offering guests a hearty and fun-filled dining experience. Duck & Waffle’s layout is open and inviting, with a large take-out counter at the entrance and the main dining area framed by large windows overlooking over the harbour. An open kitchen and island bar bookend the outlet. Designed for sharing, the food, best described as de-luxe comfort food, British style, centres around Duck & Waffle ($230), a delicious duck leg confit wedged between a fluffy waffle and a large fried duck egg, topped with homemade mustard maple syrup. For our lunch, we started with some snacks: Cheesy Fried Polenta ($80), Bacon Wrapped Dates ($110) which is excellent, and ‘Nduja & Gruyere Cheese ($70). The small plates included the highly touted Foie Gras Crème Brulee ($150) with a brioche bun and puffed pork cracking; Grilled Asparagus & Truffles ($145); Prawn and Grits ($185) – a real treat for those of us craving grits; and Brown Irish Crab Soup ($175). For large plates, we had Duck & Waffle, of course, and Mushroom and Truffle Agnolotti ($215) with Pecorino Toscano, dusted ceps, crispy shallots and thyme, which is full of flavour. Our desserts were Sticky Rice and Mango Waffle ($95) and Black Sesame Sticky Toffee Pudding, providing a fittingly solid end to a hearty meal. Be sure to try the specialty cocktails, which include #Snapquack ($138), Duck & Stormy ($148), Slow Spritz ($138), Adios Amangos ($128), Duckquiri ($138), and the playfully named Another Pornstar ($128), a concoction of vodka, cream sherry, passion fruit, citrus and fizz.

Sushi Raku 鮨樂
The crowded landscape of Japanese sushi outlets in Hong Kong has a noteworthy addition with the recent opening of Sushi Raku, and with a twist. Located prominently (you can’t miss the large and colourful signage) in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong in Central, Sushi Raku is a standing-only restaurant, one of the very few in the city, as a tribute to old customs. Meticulous care is taken in preparation of the sushi rice – from the selection of the high-quality Japanese rice, to the use of the mellow red vinegar that enhances the sushi’s flavour. We had the meal at Raku Sushi’s second floor sushi counter, standing. The restaurant offers an extensive sushi menu comprising sushi sets, nigiri sushi, donburi, roasted sushi, tamaki (hand rolls), among others. All the sushi tasted fresh and umami sweet, just as quality sushi should. Our sampling included several nigiri sushi items including Fatty Yellow Tail ($20), Yellow Tail Sushi ($14), Striped Jack Sushi ($25) and Golden Snapper Sushi ($32). We also had sashimi: 3 kinds of Tuna Sashimi ($228) and the Grand Sushi Set ($218, 8 pieces), both good. The donburi is highly recommended. We opted for the Selected Sashimi Don ($140) – fresh fish and rice that is sticky with a nice lingering sweet taste. The roasted sushi is also a treat, especially if you like eel. We had Roasted Eel Sushi ($20) and Roasted Whole Sea Eel Sushi ($29). For good measure, we finished the meal with a nice Hokkaido Sea Urchin Temaki ($68) and four pieces of Sumo Gunkan (large-size sushi) including Sumo Hokkaido Sea Urchin ($68), Sumo Spring Onion Tuna ($40), Sumo Hokkaido Salmon Roe ($45) and Sumo Crab & Cream Miso ($42). The Aonori Miso Soup is also excellent with a distinctive floury texture. Sushi Raku serves quality sushi at reasonable prices. Whether you are an ardent or casual sushi lover, Sushi Raku is an excellent choice. Give it a try.

Guess what? Breakfast at Tiffany’s is not just a movie fantasy and you don’t have to be Audrey Hepburn to enjoy the Tiffany glitz. Now, you can soak in the glamour of that classic era at the Tiffany Blue Box Café, an extension of Tiffany’s flagship store and the second such outlet in the world. The décor of the restaurant makes striking use of “Tiffany Blue” with amazonite accents and Colour Block tableware in Tiffany’s signature robin’s-egg blue hue. Its food, a mixed array of western cuisines, is also excellent. Tiffany Blue Box Café serves an all-day dining menu as well as lunch and afternoon tea sets. For lunch, the restaurant offers both 2-course ($358) and 3-course ($458) sets. We chose several of the restaurant’s signature dishes. For starters we had Pan-seared Hokkaido Scallop ($168), paired with endive salad, pine nuts and wasabi mayonnaise. Burrata ($168) with mixed tomato salad and lemon dressing, Pan-seared Foie Gras ($228) in yuzu ponzu dashi, and Cauliflower ($148), a flavourful and velvety smooth soup. For mains, Carbonara ($218) linguini with bacon, Parmesan cheese and homemade cured egg yolk is savoury. Pan-fried Turbot ($288) paired with green curry sauce with coriander is tender and satisfying. The Slow Cooked Chicken with Black Truffle ($288) is piquant and also delightfully tender. Seafood Risotto ($248), with squid ink, pan-seared scallops, squids and clams, is another appetising dish and great for sharing. We also tried Grilled Asparagus ($78) as a side order. For desserts, we enjoyed both Caramel Popcorn Chocolate Tart ($108) with ice cream and the Champagne Lychee Mousse ($108). To celebrate spring, the restaurant is offering a Tiffany Spring Special Afternoon Tea ($688/person). The three-tiered silver stand showcases loads of sweet and savoury items, perfect for a relaxing after-shopping respite. The sweet items include Tropical Paradise, Pink Sakura Strawberry, Opera White Chocolate, Rose Gateau with lychee jelly, Tiffany Blue Nest with marshmallow chocolate eggs. Savoury items include Shrimp Dorayaki, Smoked Salmon Roll, Iberico Ham, plus other delicacies. For a special treat and a journey through classic grandeur, do give Tiffany Blue Box Café a visit.

Censers were popular in the Han dynasty. This goose-shaped censer is life-like. The back of the goose body is latticed, allowing smoke to rise from it. The censer is similar in function to the more well-known boshanlu-style censers from the Han period, but its form is very different. Centre for Heritage and Arts The revitalised Central Police Station compound, the largest heritage project in Hong Kong, has opened its doors to the public as Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts. The CPS compound comprises 16 historic buildings, including three declared monuments (Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison), on a 13,600-square-metre site in the heart of Central. An international-grade art gallery and an auditorium have been added to contribute to the adaptive reuse of the site. The heritage site includes new art galleries and the Parade Ground and Prison Yard. I like outdoor and sports activities. I used to do a lot of swimming, scuba diving and even boxing. I like to hike challenging and scenic trails such as Sunset Peak in Lantau, or Ma On Shan.
