Election Day is November 3 Still Opportunities to Vote Early Election Day is almost here. If you requested a ballot by mail it must be postmarked by November 3, 2020. If you do not want to return your ballot by mail it can be dropped off at Blaine City Hall or the Mary Ann Young Center during normal business hours. A ballot requested by mail cannot be brought to a polling place on Election Day. In person absentee voting is underway and will be available until 5PM on Monday, November 2. In person absentee voting will also be available for special Saturday hours from 10AM – 3PM on October 31. Blaine residents wishing to vote early in person can vote at the Mary Ann Young Center 9150 Central Avenue

Library Collection and Puzzles Available from the MAYC Looking for new books and/or jigsaw puzzles? The MAYC has an extensive collection of books and puzzles available to checkout. MAYC staff is excited to offer this new in person opportunity to the community.

Browse By Appointment at the MAYC You can browse the shelves at the MAYC by calling to make a 30 minute appointment on Thursdays between 9:30AM-4PM. The library is stocked with many new selections. A face covering must to be worn properly, covering both the mouth and nose, when inside the building. Health screening questions will be asked when making an appointment and will be posted on the door for participants to review prior to entering the building. The library area will be sanitized in between each user. Curbside Pickup Program If you prefer to receive books or puzzles curbside, make an appointment with MAYC staff to stop by and have books and/or puzzles delivered to your passenger window. If you have special requests for type of books and/or puzzles, please let staff know when you call to request your appointment. Appointments can be made by phone at 763-786-9375 or at BlaineMN.gov/ByAppointment, select the Mary Ann Young Center (MAYC) location.

Devices and Internet Available For Residents that Meet Certain Eligibility Requirements If you do not have a device and/or do not have internet service at your place of residence, there are a few reduced rate solutions you may want to pursue. New Mary Ann Young Center Bus - The City of Blaine recently purchased a new MAYC bus, check out the new graphics and watch for the bus around town.
PCs for People PCs for People is a non-profit organization offering refurbished computers and low cost internet to eligible recipients. To qualify, your income must be below 200 percent of the federal poverty level or you must be enrolled in an income-based government assistance program. MAYC Zoom Activities If you have a smart phone, tablet, or computer, you can connect virtually and socialize or participate in MAYC Zoom activities. MAYC staff are still working daily and want to connect with you. Internet Essentials
Join in for a rousing group game of fun as you view and solve puzzles on your device using Zoom.
Internet Essentials is a program provided by Comcast that offers affordable high speed internet service and low cost computers. Residents may qualify if they are eligible for public programs such as Medicaid. Learn how to get connected at InternetEssentials.com.
Need Help Setting Up or Navigating Zoom on Your Device (Zoom Tutorial) Thursday, November 12 and 19, 2-3:30pm MAYC staff will be available to assist you if you need help to download Zoom on your device. Call the MAYC to register for a half hour time slot to talk through the process. Each zoom activity will use the same link, BlaineMN.gov/SeniorZoom.
Home Movie Transfer VHS, 8mm, 16mm, or Slides Transferred to DVD October 30 - November 4, By Appointment Blaine residents can drop off VHS tapes, 8mm film reels, 16mm film reels, or slides of personal home movies/ photos at the Mary Ann Young Center by appointment between October 30 and November 4. Eric from North Metro TV will transfer them to a DVD and return them to the MAYC in about a month. This service is also for smaller tapes that fit into a VHS converter. One of the wonderful things about programming at the MAYC is that people from all around the area, not just Blaine, can take part in the various offerings. This is for both our current virtual programs and our in-person programs when we can safely resume those events. Blaine residents already contribute towards MAYC programs through property taxes. We are asking non-Blaine residents to please consider sending in a $10 donation to help us continue to provide the current level of service to non-residents. Live 2B Healthy Senior Fitness A certified instructor will help participants improve their balance and strength in these classes. The classes are free to Silver Sneakers and Silver & Fit members. Other insurances may qualify for discounts. For more information, call Greg at 612-481-7274.
Virtual Zoom Classes Those currently participating via zoom are encouraged to continue to do so. Virtual fitness classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 10AM.
In-Person Classes Beginning at the MAYC For those without the ability to participate via zoom, starting on November 9 classes will be offered at MAYC on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 1:15PM, check in at 1PM. Equipment will be sanitized and available to check out and take home. Participants are responsible for cleaning and bringing assigned equipment to each class. Registration is limited to nine participants. If more than nine people register for classes, a rotation system will be used. Register today at BlaineMN.gov/ByAppointment.
