Mah Jongg, Wednesdays at 1pm
Mary Ann Young Center is Open Programming Returned in Early June Programs are up and running at the Mary Ann Young Center (MAYC). Check out the wide variety of offerings on page two or in the calendar on the back page of this issue and register to attend your favorites. At this time, if you are fully vaccinated a face mask is not required. If you are not fully vaccinated, a face mask is strongly encouraged. We will continue to offer social distancing when feasible to provide the safest environment possible for all to enjoy. In person dining will resume soon. A food service worker has been hired and is in the process of being trained to bring you delicious, nutritious meals served on site through a partnership with the Volunteers of America (VOA) senior nutrition program. Menus are on the back page of the newsletter beneath the daily list of activities. At this time, there is a daily limit to the number of meals that can be ordered, so be sure to call in your food order early. The suggested donation is $4 per meal. If writing a check, make it payable to VOA.
Cribbage, Fridays, 1pm
Curbside pick-up is currently available by registration Monday thru Friday between 11:45AM-12:15PM. Deadline to reserve a meal is by noon at least three business days in advance.

Fill the Bus is Back Food Shelf Donations will be Accepted at the Mary Ann Young Center Summer months find the food shelves low on supplies. As a community, help us re-stock the shelves by filling the Mary Ann Young Center bus full of non-perishable food items. Staff will deliver donations to the Salvation Army Food Shelf in Blaine. If you are not able to drop off food donations on Thursday, July 8 and are registered to attend a program at the MAYC July 6-8, you may bring non-perishable items at program start time that week. Thank you in advance for participating and helping your fellow community members.

Walking Group Mondays at 9AM, Meet outside the Entrance of the MAYC
Fall Colors Train Ride Thursday, October 15, 9:45am-3:15pm Join us for a beautiful, scenic 90-minute train ride through the St. Croix Valley. Included on your train ride is a box lunch with a turkey croissant, chips, potato salad, and a cookie. A non-alcoholic beverage is also included. At 12:30PM you will have a bit of time to explore Osceola. Do some shopping, grab a coffee, or just stroll through the quaint town. Hurry, space is limited for this trip. Price includes bus transportation and lunch. Registration deadline is September 30, no refunds after this date. Trip is subject to change. Fee $70. All Aboard the MAYC Bus is Back in Service Mary Ann Young Center volunteer drivers are gearing up to once again provide bus service to local residents needing a ride to and from the MAYC for meals and/or activity programs. Please call at least 24 hours in advance to request a ride. Pick up times will vary depending on your location. Bus capacity will be limited for safety and all riders must wear a face mask. Drivers begin routes at varied times after 9AM each day. Return routes are offered in the afternoon following program conclusion. The current cost for riding the bus is $1.50 round trip. Staff are grateful for the return of most of our former drivers, and the addition of a new driver. Once drivers have renewed their certificates, bus service will begin. The tentative start date is Tuesday, July 6.
Bus Drivers Needed Anyone interested in being a volunteer driver should call staff at 763-786-9375 for details. It is a great service provided to the older adult community, and days of service are flexible. For additional information and to sign up, call MAYC staff at 763-786-9375.
Get fit and stay healthy by walking scenic local trails. Expect a walking distance of 1.5-3 miles. Log your miles and report significant milestones, such as 10, 20, and 30 miles, to MAYC staff. Incentive prizes will be awarded throughout the year. July parks: 12 - Northwood and Oak Creek 19 - Kane Meadows 26 - Lakes of Radisson Join other groups if you wish to walk extra days and meet new people: Tuesdays - Fridley Wednesdays - Spring Lake Park Thursdays - Columbia Heights Fridays - Coon Rapids Call Beverly at 763-571-7502 for details such as meeting places and parks for locations other than Blaine.
Bingo Mondays, 1pm Tom Ryan B Room Bingo cards will once again be available to select for yourself. Nickel bingo will be played. Pay one nickel per card per round. Up to 8 card limit per person per game. Coverall: one dime per card or three cards for 25 cents.
Sing-a-long 2nd Monday each month, 10:30-11:30am North Lawn facing the patio Pianist Ardy Vos will be playing the piano on the patio, facing the singers. Bring a lawn chair. Music sheets will be available for each household in a bin. Staff will decide by 9AM day of event if program needs to move indoors. Capacity indoors 20.
Nancy, a MAYC volunteer, art teacher, and card player, will be on site for this weekly gathering of artisans and crafters. This is a gathering place for creativity, not a teaching class. Participants must register in advance each week.
North Country Jamboree Thursday, July 29, 1pm Tom Ryan Room B Enjoy some foot stomping country music by this great local band. Event to be held indoors in the Tom Ryan B Room and available to the first 50 registrants. Lunch is available and served at noon, so make a day of it. Come for the meal, stay for the entertainment. Advanced registration is required for both the meal and the entertainment. Show your support for the musicians and sign up today.
Fridays Billiards Friday, 9 or 10am MAYC Senior Lounge Invite a friend to play pool. One-hour time slots are available to play billiards on Friday mornings. Choose a 9AM or a 10AM start time. Bring your own pool stick or use one from the rack at MAYC. Participants will need to remain at opposite sides of the pool table during play.
Novel Nook (Book Club) Specified Friday each month (next date July 23) 11am -12pm, Oak Room A novel of the month will be distributed by the library leader, then returned for a new novel the following month. A fun, interactive session discussing the finer points of each novel. Limit: 15 people.
Ukulele Group
Tuesdays Nintendo Wii Bowling Tuesdays, 9-11am Tom Ryan B Room Get your competitive juices flowing with a fun and friendly game of Wii Bowling. Limit of 16 participants.
Wednesdays Woodcarving Wednesdays, 1-3pm Oak Room All levels welcome. Beginners need to let staff know at time of registration if you need to purchase a starter kit from the woodcarving leader. Other participants need to bring their own tools, supplies, and projects. Join fellow carvers for ideas and great conversation. Limit of 15 participants.
Fridays, 10-11:15am Maple A & B Rooms Bring own music, instrument, and stand. Playing a musical instrument can be very therapeutic. Newcomers are welcome. Limit of 20 participants.
Scrabble Fridays, 1pm Tom Ryan Room Test your wits with a great game of Scrabble among friendly competitors. Draw tiles, form words on the board, and attempt to score big. Assign a scorekeeper at each table and let the fun begin. Remember, there is a time limit per turn to keep the game moving. Scrabble dictionaries provided. Good luck and have fun.

Property Tax Refund Assistance M1PR, Minnesota Property Tax Refund The Anoka County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will offer limited appointments by phone, beginning July 7. Senior citizens and people with disabilities who qualify for a Minnesota property tax refund will be able to book an appointment. Volunteer tax preparers will answer your property tax questions and assist you in filling out your M1PR form, which you will then mail to the MN Department of Revenue.
